He breaks through the confusion, explains the differences and the similarities between some of these industry terms, as well as how Emulex fits into the mix.

It explains how we analyzed the use of SDN based within an NFV environment. We picked the ITU model of Network resources, SDN controller and SDN applications and mapped those elements to the ETSI NFV architecture. Then we studied some design patterns, typical design of a network architecture with SDN and NFV, many different models. We also described SDN hierarchy and federation and collected lessons learnt from ETSI NFV POC using SDN and NFV. Finally we looked into few specific use cases such as Transport Network, or vCPE, but also policy. and last we looked into opensource SDN controller. We ended up with 35 recommendations that we are reviewing now in ETSI NFV to decide upon next steps. Comments welcome !

The Next Step ofOpenStack Evolution for NFV DeploymentsDirk Kutscher
NFV is now a well-known concept and in an early deployment stage, leveraging and adapting OpenStack and other Open Source Software systems. In the OPNFV project, a large group of industry peers is building a carrier-grade, integrated, open source reference platform for the NFV community. The telco industry has successfully adopted Open Source Software for carrier-grade deployments. It is now time for taking the next steps and to extend the colloaboration with upstream projects -- by opening up previously proprietary developments, by contributing code and other artifacts in order to create a ecosystem of NFV platforms, applications, and management/orchestration systems.
This talk shares some insights on how Red Hat and NEC are working together to foster collaboration in the NFV ecosystem by actively working with OpenStack and other upstream projects.
NEC has pioneered the adoption of Linux, KVM, Open vSwitch, and OpenStack for their mobile network core product line (virtualized EPC) and has gained significant experience through development work and deployments. NEC's extensions for high efficiency and high availability have led to contributions of new features to OpenStack, such as DPDK vSwitch control and CPU allocation features. For NEC, it is very important to have those features integrated into the mainstream code base for building reliable infrastructure systems.
Red Hat, one of main contributors to OpenStack, leads the development of those functions to meet NFV requirements in OpenStack, making critical and demanding applications run of top of open platforms. The presentation explains how NEC and Red Hat are integrating and optimizing Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and NFV, along with contributions to open source communities, including OpenStack and Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV).

Many Service providers and communities like OPNFV is seeing OpenStack as the preferred cloud IaaS platform for NFV. However, Openstack was not designed with NFV in mind from day 1 and brings a lot of challenges when adapting to Telco environments. These challenges range from product design and development to solution design and architecture, deployment and support to match Telco expectations.
Red Hat has been working with a number of early adopters to roll out NFV solutions. Even though we have many successes, we have our fair share of challenges. When a solution architect and support engineer stand on the dais, it may be appropriate to recollect these challenges based on our experience from a solution design, architecture and support perspective. These challenges include distributed NFV, High Availability everywhere, Fault Tolerance, Predictive recovery, network performance, interoperability with multiple vendors, accommodating different types of VNFs with different operating systems, troubleshooting, feature availability, etc from a solution design perspective and support perspective.
Throughout this session we will touch base on these challenges, what are the possible solutions, how did we overcome them and open a discussion for challenges which do not have an acceptable solution. We will also discuss details of some of the challenges associated with troubleshooting issues specific to NFV deployments.

While the trend moves on, Cloud native VNFs are emerging best citizens of the cloud. Thus communication from EMS to VNFM is blurred and eventually may disappear in the future. This requires better understanding of, and agreement over the role of VNFMs and EMS for VNFs.
This presentation describes the evolution of Distributed VNF management, Architectural design considerations and Use-case scenarios. The following proposal is based on a comprehensive study on evolving cloud native VNF management.

It will be highly scalable, elastic, and extremely robust in order to handle the exponential increase in traffic including video, the IoT, and increasingly smarter devices. Huawei CTO Yingtao Li will speak about the next generation mobile architecture built on OPNFV and how it meets the needs of operators as they roll out new, software based networks.

These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
