We were tasked with creating a practice student magazine project to gain experience for an upcoming music project. Through research of existing student magazines, we found that many focused on stereotypes or used images that did not appeal to both male and female readers. To create a magazine that was different, the author conducted focus groups of fellow students to get input on content. Photoshop was used to layout and design the magazine, but challenges arose from the author's lack of experience with the software. Feedback was solicited to improve photo editing skills and produce a higher quality final product for the target audience.

Preliminary Task Questions
- 2. What was difficult and what was easy? I found most of it quite easily to be honest. I was able to get my pictures easily, I found it easy to make and didn't cause me much trouble. The only thing that was difficult was getting it down on paper. I had a clear idea on how I wanted it to look, and took me some time to get it right, but over all I am happy with the finished project.
- 3. Would it have been easier with research? I did do research for this task and I did find that it helped. I feel like that if I hadn't of done any research I would have struggled with the design and look of the magazine, and how to make it fit the genre. I am also doing research for the Music Magazine so I am clearer with what to do.
- 4. What did you do to attract the audience? I mainly went for anything to do with the school. I used school based subject for the headlines and pictures, and made sure that it has students involved in the pictures. I also used the school colours and made sure it was in link with the school as much as possible. I felt like this is all was needed for the audience- clear connection to school, informative headings etc.
- 5. What have I learned about the software that I have used? Before I started this task I had never used the Photoshop software. At the start I found it very difficult to get my head round it but , over the time I have used it, I have learned new trick and techniques that I can use in my music magazine.
- 6. What have I learned to help me excel in the main task? In lessons I have learned a wide range of things. I have learned how magazines use different techniques to gain and attract their audiences, I have learned how to structure the magazine and how to make it fit its purpose. This has helped me to have a greater understanding in what to do in the main task, and how to make it the best I possibly can.
