Preliminary Project Analysis
The preliminary project went well as we had the right costumes and props, like the
rope to show I was a crazy character and the clipboard showed Molly was a doctor,
both of these helped set the scene as a hospital or institution this was also shown by
the fact Molly had a plain white jacket and I was in a hospital gown to further set the
scene.
We met the brief but only on the match on action but this was shown well as the story
was easy to follow and the rest of the class understood what was going on in the scene
and what the story was and the 180 degree rule as it flipped from me to molly quite
well but didn’t have us on different ends to the camera. The only issue when we were
recording was the fact that Molly’s part jumped a bit from where the door opened and
closed so we resolved it by changing the order the film but this choice we made
actually worked well in the overall production. But next time as a group or individual
I will try to take into account all aspects of the brief and include all of them in my
work if possible such as the shot reverse shot which we never used because I was
unaware of this technical device.
In this project I learned how to get a scheduled recoding done in a short time period
and how to work in a team this allowed me to put my part forward and this helped
make the production more of a success. I also learned how to use different textures of
lighting to create meaning and this helped to make our production more authentic and
original to everyone else’s.
In the opening shots of the production we had bright textures on Molly to show the
overall hospital as a nice environment before the camera was moved and showed me
on the bed at this point there was a darker texture to show me as a crazed character
and that something was not quite right. Then on Molly there was always a light
texture on her but not too bright as both characters were still in the dismal scene and
the same texture was used on my face to establish continuity with my character being
dark and mysterious.
In this production we took elements of Mise-En-Scene into consideration as in our
production Molly was standing quite far from myself to show no connection between
the characters and that she is only there as a member of staff, we used this because if
2 characters are quite close together the audience can establish a connection between
those characters but we maintained no connection as Molly was as far from me as
possible to remain in the shot. Also with the element of facial expressions my
character gives of a very crude look like he doesn’t want to see the doctor to further
establish no connection between the characters.
The settings and props were used to their full potential as the ropes were very clearly
shown to be strapping me down to the bed and show I was a psychotic character and
that I could not be trusted otherwise and the clipboard was very clearly shown and
used well by Molly to show she is a doctor and that she is trying to sort out the
character on the bed.
The costumes helped to further demonstrate where the scene was set and show what
was going on in the scene. This was clear as my character was wearing a hospital
Louis Price
gown to show he is a patient in the hospital and that something is not quite right. And
with Molly in the lab coat it showed her as a Dr this helped to establish some type of
relationship but not a personal one.
In the production, an over the shoulder shot is to show that Molly is of less
importance and that I was the main focus as I was the deranged character and this
would give the audience a chance to question why I am strapped to a bed and why
they are keeping me there prior to my laughter and the long shot is used purely to
show Molly walking into the room after that she isn’t as significant as my character.
In the long shot the audience will see is a 3 second clip of me turning my head the
group thought this would be good as it would be the first time the audience would see
my character and then it switches to a 4 second two-shot of Molly pushing the
wheelchair out the way. The shots on Molly at the start were also very shaky this
could maybe sense a bit of tension for the audience as they could feel like with the
camera moving they would feel worried and imagine they were there the shots on
Molly are also very brief because the overall story is not revolved around herself, it is
mainly revolved around me as I am the character this scene is crucial about as I am
being kept at the hospital for as long as they want, and not as long as I want.
The editing was straight forward as all we needed was a change in the texture of the
room to fit both characters in this production such as the bright lighting for Molly and
the low light for me and after we recorded both angles of Molly entering the room we
included the footage of me, turning my head to be show for the first time, in between
to not show the error of the door being open in one frame and closed in the next.
In the planning sector I was held accountable for asking which teachers would be
available and when before we settled on this idea, this was a problem as most of the
teachers we asked weren’t available when we were recording so we compromised and
managed to re-record and make it so it was just me and Molly on camera. Mollie
Warrilow made sure we had a suitable location to record as well as making sure we
had the space to record and Molly Constable had prepared the script making sure we
had a realistic and authentic story line for this short clip.

But next time as a group or individual I will try to take into account all aspects of the brief and include all of them in my work if possible such as the shot reverse shot which we never used because I was unaware of this technical device. In this project I learned how to get a scheduled recoding done in a short time period and how to work in a team this allowed me to put my part forward and this helped make the production more of a success. I also learned how to use different textures of lighting to create meaning and this helped to make our production more authentic and original to everyone else’s. In the opening shots of the production we had bright textures on Molly to show the overall hospital as a nice environment before the camera was moved and showed me on the bed at this point there was a darker texture to show me as a crazed character and that something was not quite right. Then on Molly there was always a light texture on her but not too bright as both characters were still in the dismal scene and the same texture was used on my face to establish continuity with my character being dark and mysterious. In this production we took elements of Mise-En-Scene into consideration as in our production Molly was standing quite far from myself to show no connection between the characters and that she is only there as a member of staff, we used this because if 2 characters are quite close together the audience can establish a connection between those characters but we maintained no connection as Molly was as far from me as possible to remain in the shot. Also with the element of facial expressions my character gives of a very crude look like he doesn’t want to see the doctor to further establish no connection between the characters. The settings and props were used to their full potential as the ropes were very clearly shown to be strapping me down to the bed and show I was a psychotic character and that I could not be trusted otherwise and the clipboard was very clearly shown and used well by Molly to show she is a doctor and that she is trying to sort out the character on the bed. The costumes helped to further demonstrate where the scene was set and show what was going on in the scene. This was clear as my character was wearing a hospital
  • 2. Louis Price gown to show he is a patient in the hospital and that something is not quite right. And with Molly in the lab coat it showed her as a Dr this helped to establish some type of relationship but not a personal one. In the production, an over the shoulder shot is to show that Molly is of less importance and that I was the main focus as I was the deranged character and this would give the audience a chance to question why I am strapped to a bed and why they are keeping me there prior to my laughter and the long shot is used purely to show Molly walking into the room after that she isn’t as significant as my character. In the long shot the audience will see is a 3 second clip of me turning my head the group thought this would be good as it would be the first time the audience would see my character and then it switches to a 4 second two-shot of Molly pushing the wheelchair out the way. The shots on Molly at the start were also very shaky this could maybe sense a bit of tension for the audience as they could feel like with the camera moving they would feel worried and imagine they were there the shots on Molly are also very brief because the overall story is not revolved around herself, it is mainly revolved around me as I am the character this scene is crucial about as I am being kept at the hospital for as long as they want, and not as long as I want. The editing was straight forward as all we needed was a change in the texture of the room to fit both characters in this production such as the bright lighting for Molly and the low light for me and after we recorded both angles of Molly entering the room we included the footage of me, turning my head to be show for the first time, in between to not show the error of the door being open in one frame and closed in the next. In the planning sector I was held accountable for asking which teachers would be available and when before we settled on this idea, this was a problem as most of the teachers we asked weren’t available when we were recording so we compromised and managed to re-record and make it so it was just me and Molly on camera. Mollie Warrilow made sure we had a suitable location to record as well as making sure we had the space to record and Molly Constable had prepared the script making sure we had a realistic and authentic story line for this short clip.
