For the Prelim,Iteamed withAbbie BaconandDanielleDuffy,we choose taskYou’re Fired!Initial
ideasshowedthatwe were lookingatanaction,governmentconspiracyplot;we establishedthat
there’ll be twocharactersinthe film, andthe otherfilming. Ifeltthe task wentwell,and pleased
withthe group’s dedication,especiallyasthere were three of ussothe workwas combinedorspilt
evenly. Boththe teamandI worked extremelywell together, all dedicated togettingthe workdone
and placedinthe hoursgetting the task completed. We were able towork close togetherasa close
knitunit,learningfrom another’sskills andhavingthe confidencetospeakaloudtheiropinions
whendiscussingandworkingthroughoutthe prelim,thishas alsohelpedtodevelopmyown
individualskills.
I feel like I’velearnedasubstantial deal throughoutthe twoweeks, forstartersI’ve growna great
confidence inusingthe editingsoftware,Adobe Premiere Pro,before I’vealwayshadalackof
assurance whenusingcomputersandwouldalwaysdeterfrom usingthemsoknowingthatIwould
editthe footage unnervedme howeverafteranhour of playingaroundwiththe software,itbecame
my joband myfavourite partof the task,especiallythe endingof ourfilmwhere the intensityof the
scenesincreased,needingtobe fastest,energeticandclimatic,engaging audiencestobe atthe
edge of theirseats. AnotheraspectthatI enjoyedlearningwasthe lighting.Asthiswasmy firsttime
usingthis equipment,itwasthrillinglearninghow tohandle them, especiallywhere we gottoblend
the tonesfromdark to light, deemingeffective forthe prelimaswe reliedon scenesneedingtobe
darkershowingmysteryandcreatinganenigma,however lightingprovedtobe a nuisance attimes
as shotshad to be redone due to camerastand caughtin the backgroundor
beingtoobrightcreating a shine onour faceslike inscene 00:01:23 pictured
right.
In termsof camera, I learntaboutmanydifferentshotsandangles,my
favourite beingthe overthe shouldershot, picturedleftat00:00:46, whichwe
useda few timesthroughout the film, ithadgreatpurpose exposingreaction
shotsand focusingonan actor speakingbut addingthatair of mysteryof keepinganidentitysecret.
I alsolearntthe zoom buttononthe camerafor certainparts of the filmandrealised
howdifficultit wastokeep the camera straightandkeep iton a particularsubject,
especiallynearingthe endof ourprelimwhere we wantedtozoominon the memory
stickto expose itsimportance aroundscene 00:02:58, howeverendedupdoing
several shotreshootsaseverytime we zoomedin,italwaysmissedthe stickandwe
were determinedforthe stickbe inthe middle.Ilearnedalsohow touse
a tripod,readjustingthe heightof the tripodsoit couldsuit the type of shot being
filmed,itwasagreat resourcesallowingthe shotstobe steadyand still,thiswasuseful
especiallywhenwe wantedseriousscenestobe filmedandthenthe use of handheld
shotsto give that shakyeffectthroughoutthe fightsscenestoexpose the desperate,
climaticatmosphere atthe end. AnothercamerashotI learntwasthe match onaction shotwhere
the camera steadilyfollowedthe personwalkingintothe room, these were importantforusas we
wantedtoestablishwhere the actorswere andwhattheywere doing.The
problemswe experienced withthe camerawasthe batteryand the
memorycard beingfull,theselimitationswere timeconsumingas
we neededaccesstoa plugsocketto recharge and sometimeswe
failedtohave a charger onus so we had to haltour filmingtime
and workon something else,anotherproblemwasthe memorystorage beingfull on
the camera, here whenthishappenedwe hadtostop our filminganduploadthe clipsontothe

computerto thanresume filming,thiswasacommon problemaswe had manyshotsto shootand
some had to be reshotdue to problems.Iplayedone of the charactersinthe film, my
role wasplayingMissCrawford,a character senton a missiontoretrieve missing
code filesthathave beenillegallydownloadedontoamemorystickthathas been
intrustedinChiefshandsplayedbyAbbie.Mycharacter neededtobe strongand
independent,have little concernforhervictims,alongwithaflataffectandfew demonstrable
emotions. Ireally enjoyedplayingthispart, keepingtothe strongcharacter andportrayinglimited
emotionstoshowherdeterminationtothe mission.The biggestskillI’ve learntthroughoutthe
Prelimisthe software programme Adobe Premiere Pro inacoherent,professionalmanner. Itook
the job as the groupseditoras I thoughtitwouldbe worthwhiletolearndespite notbeingwell
experiencedwithcomputers,itwasagreat positionandIenjoyeddoingitfarmuchmore than
filmingitself,Ilearnedhowtocut andimportscenesrightdownto the second,becomingvery
familiarwith the scenes beingeditedandalwaysplacingmyself inthe shoesof the
watchingaudience,thinkingwhattheywouldexpectthe editstocome outlike.
Duringthe fightscenes,Ibecame familiarisedwiththe speeddurationsandwas
able to speed upor downthe intensityof the scenes,Ireallyenjoyedthisandwas
furtherpromptedtoalsoeditsoundsandcuts intoour prelimfilmafterthe edits
were completed.IteamedwithAbbyininstallingthe musicandcuts usingthe
same programme Adobe Premiere Protoput more of an authenticfeel intothe
video,usingthe schoolsfile documentswe were successfullyable tolistentoall
the copy rightfree musicsourcesandwere able to import,edit,cutandfade the
musicintothe right slots throughoutthe prelimvideo.A difficulttaskwasgetting
the musicto match intothe scenesat the right second,forexample whenthe
Chief emergesfromthe shadowswithoutMissCrawfordknowinginthe rightpicture atscene
00:03:50, I wantedthe suspense musictorise rightwhere Chief strikes,requiringstricttimingsand
positions, howeverassoonas I got use to thisI beganto enjoythisasmuch as I didediting,againI
positionedmyself inthe shoesof the audience andbegantowatchthe prelimcome to life withthe
music. I foundthat I wouldhave likedtohave spentabitmore time on sound,preferablyturning
the musicsounddownand turningthe dialogue soundupsothe characters couldhave beenhearda
lotmore clearly.
Aftercompletingthe Prelimwe hadtopresenttothe othergroup inwhichtheygave they’re
responsesandcriticstowardsourprelim, thistaskwasdone so we can familiariseourselveswithour
strengthsandweaknessessowe can developuponthisforthe real thing.
By readingthroughourfeedback,I’ve managedtofindoutwhatthe othergroups responseswere
aftertheywatchedthe prelim,ourstrengthswasthatwe followedagoodnarrative thatfitsinwell
withthe genre whichwasroughlya governmentconspiracycrime thriller.Feedbackalsostatsthat
our editingwentwell withflowandease whichIlovedconsideringthatIcompletededitingandthis
was myfirsttime doingso,I’mfullyconfidentintakingoverthe editingrole forthe nextthriller
openingwe donexttime.Otherfeedbacksshowedthatourmusicwas embeddedinwell andfits
coherently withourprelim, Ifoundthis alsopleasanttohearas we didn’tnotget muchtime inthe
musiceditingdepartmentandIfeel like Iwouldof likedtohave spentmore time onthis. But
despite this,the othergroupdidstate thatit wasdifficulttounderstandwhatwe were sayingat
times,soI believethatdialoguewasourmainproblemasit wasdifficulttounderstand,soIbelieve
that nexttime Ishall be more time consciousandmake a time schedule inwhichIshall follow and
make sure that I have giveneachelementwhetherthatbeingsound,editing,orlightingin

Photoshopenoughtime forittogo downwell.Throughoutthe responses,audiowasabig obstacle
and alwaysthe one at the top of the list,Ifeel like theyhave apointasI feltlike Iwouldof like a
little more time inarrangingoursoundbetter,sotime wasat our disposal asour prelimturnedout
longerthanexpected,endingatroughly4minsand30secs, I feltthatwe spentlongeronfilmingthan
we dideditingbutthiswasdue to our prelimbeinglongerthanexpected.
Howeveroverall,Idobelieve thatthispreliminarytaskwentdownagreat successandwithour
feedbacknowinorderour teamhave our strengthsandweaknessesthathave beenidentified by
otherpeople,Idobelievethatforthe thrilleropeningscene thatwe have tosoonstart completing
that our groupwill be a lotmore preparedforit and can make the thrilleropeningevenbetterthan
the prelimtask.

For the Prelim,Iteamed withAbbie BaconandDanielleDuffy,we choose taskYou’re Fired!Initial ideasshowedthatwe were lookingatanaction,governmentconspiracyplot;we establishedthat there’ll be twocharactersinthe film, andthe otherfilming. Ifeltthe task wentwell,and pleased withthe group’s dedication,especiallyasthere were three of ussothe workwas combinedorspilt evenly. Boththe teamandI worked extremelywell together, all dedicated togettingthe workdone and placedinthe hoursgetting the task completed. We were able towork close togetherasa close knitunit,learningfrom another’sskills andhavingthe confidencetospeakaloudtheiropinions whendiscussingandworkingthroughoutthe prelim,thishas alsohelpedtodevelopmyown individualskills. I feel like I’velearnedasubstantial deal throughoutthe twoweeks, forstartersI’ve growna great confidence inusingthe editingsoftware,Adobe Premiere Pro,before I’vealwayshadalackof assurance whenusingcomputersandwouldalwaysdeterfrom usingthemsoknowingthatIwould editthe footage unnervedme howeverafteranhour of playingaroundwiththe software,itbecame my joband myfavourite partof the task,especiallythe endingof ourfilmwhere the intensityof the scenesincreased,needingtobe fastest,energeticandclimatic,engaging audiencestobe atthe edge of theirseats. AnotheraspectthatI enjoyedlearningwasthe lighting.Asthiswasmy firsttime usingthis equipment,itwasthrillinglearninghow tohandle them, especiallywhere we gottoblend the tonesfromdark to light, deemingeffective forthe prelimaswe reliedon scenesneedingtobe darkershowingmysteryandcreatinganenigma,however lightingprovedtobe a nuisance attimes as shotshad to be redone due to camerastand caughtin the backgroundor beingtoobrightcreating a shine onour faceslike inscene 00:01:23 pictured right. In termsof camera, I learntaboutmanydifferentshotsandangles,my favourite beingthe overthe shouldershot, picturedleftat00:00:46, whichwe useda few timesthroughout the film, ithadgreatpurpose exposingreaction shotsand focusingonan actor speakingbut addingthatair of mysteryof keepinganidentitysecret. I alsolearntthe zoom buttononthe camerafor certainparts of the filmandrealised howdifficultit wastokeep the camera straightandkeep iton a particularsubject, especiallynearingthe endof ourprelimwhere we wantedtozoominon the memory stickto expose itsimportance aroundscene 00:02:58, howeverendedupdoing several shotreshootsaseverytime we zoomedin,italwaysmissedthe stickandwe were determinedforthe stickbe inthe middle.Ilearnedalsohow touse a tripod,readjustingthe heightof the tripodsoit couldsuit the type of shot being filmed,itwasagreat resourcesallowingthe shotstobe steadyand still,thiswasuseful especiallywhenwe wantedseriousscenestobe filmedandthenthe use of handheld shotsto give that shakyeffectthroughoutthe fightsscenestoexpose the desperate, climaticatmosphere atthe end. AnothercamerashotI learntwasthe match onaction shotwhere the camera steadilyfollowedthe personwalkingintothe room, these were importantforusas we wantedtoestablishwhere the actorswere andwhattheywere doing.The problemswe experienced withthe camerawasthe batteryand the memorycard beingfull,theselimitationswere timeconsumingas we neededaccesstoa plugsocketto recharge and sometimeswe failedtohave a charger onus so we had to haltour filmingtime and workon something else,anotherproblemwasthe memorystorage beingfull on the camera, here whenthishappenedwe hadtostop our filminganduploadthe clipsontothe 00:01:23 00:00:46 00:01:13 (steadyshot) 00:02:16 (Handheld)
  • 2. computerto thanresume filming,thiswasacommon problemaswe had manyshotsto shootand some had to be reshotdue to problems.Iplayedone of the charactersinthe film, my role wasplayingMissCrawford,a character senton a missiontoretrieve missing code filesthathave beenillegallydownloadedontoamemorystickthathas been intrustedinChiefshandsplayedbyAbbie.Mycharacter neededtobe strongand independent,have little concernforhervictims,alongwithaflataffectandfew demonstrable emotions. Ireally enjoyedplayingthispart, keepingtothe strongcharacter andportrayinglimited emotionstoshowherdeterminationtothe mission.The biggestskillI’ve learntthroughoutthe Prelimisthe software programme Adobe Premiere Pro inacoherent,professionalmanner. Itook the job as the groupseditoras I thoughtitwouldbe worthwhiletolearndespite notbeingwell experiencedwithcomputers,itwasagreat positionandIenjoyeddoingitfarmuchmore than filmingitself,Ilearnedhowtocut andimportscenesrightdownto the second,becomingvery familiarwith the scenes beingeditedandalwaysplacingmyself inthe shoesof the watchingaudience,thinkingwhattheywouldexpectthe editstocome outlike. Duringthe fightscenes,Ibecame familiarisedwiththe speeddurationsandwas able to speed upor downthe intensityof the scenes,Ireallyenjoyedthisandwas furtherpromptedtoalsoeditsoundsandcuts intoour prelimfilmafterthe edits were completed.IteamedwithAbbyininstallingthe musicandcuts usingthe same programme Adobe Premiere Protoput more of an authenticfeel intothe video,usingthe schoolsfile documentswe were successfullyable tolistentoall the copy rightfree musicsourcesandwere able to import,edit,cutandfade the musicintothe right slots throughoutthe prelimvideo.A difficulttaskwasgetting the musicto match intothe scenesat the right second,forexample whenthe Chief emergesfromthe shadowswithoutMissCrawfordknowinginthe rightpicture atscene 00:03:50, I wantedthe suspense musictorise rightwhere Chief strikes,requiringstricttimingsand positions, howeverassoonas I got use to thisI beganto enjoythisasmuch as I didediting,againI positionedmyself inthe shoesof the audience andbegantowatchthe prelimcome to life withthe music. I foundthat I wouldhave likedtohave spentabitmore time on sound,preferablyturning the musicsounddownand turningthe dialogue soundupsothe characters couldhave beenhearda lotmore clearly. Aftercompletingthe Prelimwe hadtopresenttothe othergroup inwhichtheygave they’re responsesandcriticstowardsourprelim, thistaskwasdone so we can familiariseourselveswithour strengthsandweaknessessowe can developuponthisforthe real thing. By readingthroughourfeedback,I’ve managedtofindoutwhatthe othergroups responseswere aftertheywatchedthe prelim,ourstrengthswasthatwe followedagoodnarrative thatfitsinwell withthe genre whichwasroughlya governmentconspiracycrime thriller.Feedbackalsostatsthat our editingwentwell withflowandease whichIlovedconsideringthatIcompletededitingandthis was myfirsttime doingso,I’mfullyconfidentintakingoverthe editingrole forthe nextthriller openingwe donexttime.Otherfeedbacksshowedthatourmusicwas embeddedinwell andfits coherently withourprelim, Ifoundthis alsopleasanttohearas we didn’tnotget muchtime inthe musiceditingdepartmentandIfeel like Iwouldof likedtohave spentmore time onthis. But despite this,the othergroupdidstate thatit wasdifficulttounderstandwhatwe were sayingat times,soI believethatdialoguewasourmainproblemasit wasdifficulttounderstand,soIbelieve that nexttime Ishall be more time consciousandmake a time schedule inwhichIshall follow and make sure that I have giveneachelementwhetherthatbeingsound,editing,orlightingin 00:01:50 00:03:50

Photoshopenoughtime forittogo downwell.Throughoutthe responses,audiowasabig obstacle and alwaysthe one at the top of the list,Ifeel like theyhave apointasI feltlike Iwouldof like a little more time inarrangingoursoundbetter,sotime wasat our disposal asour prelimturnedout longerthanexpected,endingatroughly4minsand30secs, I feltthatwe spentlongeronfilmingthan we dideditingbutthiswasdue to our prelimbeinglongerthanexpected. Howeveroverall,Idobelieve thatthispreliminarytaskwentdownagreat successandwithour feedbacknowinorderour teamhave our strengthsandweaknessesthathave beenidentified by otherpeople,Idobelievethatforthe thrilleropeningscene thatwe have tosoonstart completing that our groupwill be a lotmore preparedforit and can make the thrilleropeningevenbetterthan the prelimtask.
