Pregnant athletes can continue exercising during pregnancy if some adjustments are made to intensity and sport modality. Moderate intensity aerobic exercise is considered safe, while high risk sports involving direct trauma, falling, or physiological risks should be avoided. Strength training is also acceptable if proper form and safety precautions are followed. The goal during pregnancy is health maintenance rather than peak sport performance, and warning signs should prompt ceasing exercise.
