Pre production evaluation finial
1. Pre-production evaluation
Duringmy pre-production I planned my production by creating a script,shooting schedule,storyboard, a shot list,
risk assessments,contributors release,budget planning,location scouting,resource planningand a personal list.
Doing all thesemade itso when I filmed itwas all planned out and I could shoot effectively.
Initial planning
Financial planning
Financial planningis my resourcelistand budget. I made a resourcelist,so I knew what equipment and props I
needed before filming. The collegeprovided all my equipment however I needed to buy my props. I googled how
much y props costed and made my budget. The benefit of this was seen straightaway whilstfilmingas when
filmingI had all the props ready which meant the shooting went smoothly. Furthermore, if I dd not make a
resourcelistI could have been on set without a prop which would delay filmingand would disruptmy shooting
schedule.
Logistic planning
This is my risk assessments, contributions releaseand location scouting.I do these as they help me avoid legal
trouble. For example, if I filmed in the collegewithout permission I could besued, however I got signed
authorization to filmon the grounds. I created a risk assessmentform which shows that I have taken precaution
againstinjuries on set. Also, I got contributors releaseforms which means all actors havesigned for me to be able
to filmthem and publish thefilmon any platform (social media,YouTube etc.). Logistic planninghelped me on set
as duringfilmingin the collegeI was asked to leave but i had permission froma higher member of staff.
Creative process
This is my script, shootingschedule, storyboard, and shot list.I did these as they helped me duringfilmingas since
before filmingI knew what my filmwould be; meaning when filmingI knew what type of shots I wanted and which
members of the castI needed for that day and more. I made the script,so I knew what my filmwas;this helped
me make all other parts of my pre-production too as I knew what equipment or props were needed for what
scenes. DuringfilmingI did change aspects of my filmwhich made iteasier to filmand jus other ideas which came
to me duringfilming. For example, I was doing a shot where ben was runningdown a path and, in the path, there
was a wheelie bin which was there which we didn’texpect. Instead of filmingsomewhere else we played it as a
joke and ben ran to it,stopped abruptly and ran around. I created a storyboard as ithelped me visualizemy film,it
helped me duringproduction and in post as I needed to edit certain shots together to get a intended effect. Finally,
I created a shot listwhich made me aware of what types of shots there were. It was clear to me I had an
abundanceof long shots which meant duringfilmingI diverged a littleto make my filmhave more closeups, dolly's
etc.
Project management
Personal management
I created a personnel listand had regular meetings with my cast. This is so thatthey were comfortable with what
they were doingin my filmand that the all kneweach other too so that they would get alongcreatinga shoot
which was more enjoyablefor everyone, also makingita faster shoot. Duringthese meetings I covered the films
plot, what everyone's roles were and the shootingschedule. If I had not done this itcould have led to confusion on
set and confusion over what days we arefilmingwhich would make for an ineffective shoot. Also, discussion the
shootingschedulemade it so I knew what days we could filmwith certain members of the cast.
2. Resource management
SinceI created a scriptand resourcelistI knew what props and equipment were needed and the pricefor the
props. The equipment was loaned out for free by the college, but I had to book when I had certain equipment and
for how long I had the equipment. I sourced the props and an SD card myself before filmingstarted which meant
there wouldn’t be any delays on the shootingdays. Also I knew I needed premiere pro to edit on but that was also
provided by the college.
Time management
I created a shootingschedule and deadlinewhich was halted by the Covid 19 pandemic. However I was on track
with filming.I was on the lastday in fact with nearly all my filmingand editingdone. There were a few alterations
to my shootingschedule. This was becausethe weather was good and was what I needed in my filmsinceits all
outdoors so the last scenewe were going to filmwas the scenes in doors.
Monitoringprogress
I was editingmy filmduringproduction which meant I knew how far we were till completingthe film. When filming
I always knew how much we had left to do and we were never behind schedule
Risk management.
I created risk assessmentforms to minimizethe chance of injury. Before filmingI would check for hazards which
could lead to my actor tripping.Id then run through the shot with him then we would film. This made the chance
of injury slimto none.
Crisismanagement
One day on set we aboutto filmwhen one of my actors fell ill and couldn’tfilmwhich meant we had to reschedule
the shootingday which actually worked out better sincethe weather was much nicer the day after. Also, once we
were filmingand it started to rain which meant we had to re shoot itanother day for continuity.Another crisiswas
a member of the public staringinto the lens which I didn't notice till I was editingwhich meant we had to reshoot.
General thoughts
I am overjoyed with how my filminghas went; I know it went so well due to my pre-production as itmeant I knew
what I was always doingand so did the cast.
