India has huge plant and animal diversity due to its varied temperature, sunlight, rainfall, soil and terrain. Some of the major vegetation types in India include tropical rain forests along the western coasts with tall trees like ebony and mahogany; tropical deciduous forests in central India with teak and sal trees; thorny scrub in low rainfall areas; and tidal mangrove forests along river deltas home to Sundari trees. Alpine and tundra vegetation is found above 3,600 meters featuring silver firs, pines and birches.
