Facebook Connect Presentation 08 10 2008
Facebook Connect allows users to log into external websites using their Facebook credentials. This allows the external site to access the user's social graph and profile data from Facebook and share content back to Facebook. The technology uses JavaScript and FBML tags to integrate Facebook features into a website. It allows functions like displaying Facebook profile info, publishing to Facebook, and recreating a user's social network on the external site. However, it only provides limited access to user data and has some disadvantages related to its reliance on JavaScript.

How do you insert a hyperlink or "clickcable" link within a Slideshare presentation? It's simple. Do not include it on the 1st 3 pages of your doc and infographics are prohibited from links. That's it! Create links in your docs as you normally would.

Doing More with Less: The Crisis, Cooperation, and the Library
The current financial situation has forced many libraries to pay unprecedented attention to how they are organized to achieve their missions. One common thread emerging in the responses is cooperation: those needing to cut costs sharply are finding that they cannot do so incrementally but must instead transform their activities in ways that spread cost and diffuse risk among many partners. The talk will cover some of the opportunities available for transformative institutional collaboration among libraries, including collaborative, open source software development as well as the challenges facing those attempting to collaborate. It will pay particular attention to the question of how to collaborate strategically: that is, how to ensure that collaboration retains or increases a library’s ability to pursue mission, enhance agility, increase sovereignty, and improve sustainability.

She argued that while numbers of transactions are still important, the focus of resource sharing needs to be on improving the user experience.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
