The document discusses electroencephalography (EEG), which is a medical imaging technique that reads electrical activity in the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp. An EEG machine consists of electrodes, amplifiers, filters, and a recording unit. EEGs are used to diagnose epilepsy, monitor brain activity during anesthesia, and investigate sleep disorders. The document describes the components of an EEG machine and preparation of patients for EEG recording. It also explains the different types of brain waves - beta, alpha, theta, and delta - that are analyzed during EEG interpretation.
This document discusses auditory processing disorders (APD), including a historical overview of the study and diagnosis of APD. It notes that interest in APD dates back over 50 years, and that understanding of APD has advanced due to developments in neuroscience and functional neuroimaging. APD is often co-morbid with other disorders like language impairment, ADHD, and dyslexia. Both behavioral tests and electrophysiological measures can be used to assess APD. Effective management of APD may involve auditory training and addressing any co-existing disorders.
1 basics of eeg and fundamentals of its measurementSwathy Ravi
The document discusses the basics of EEG and its measurement. It provides a timeline of EEG invention from 1875 to 1924. It describes how EEG signals are generated from neuronal structures and propagated through electrical signals. It explains how EEG is recorded using a modern EEG machine and electrode placement systems. It discusses filters, amplifiers, polarity conventions, montages, artifacts, and clinical applications of EEG for monitoring brain activity.

The document outlines the general therapeutic plan and various treatment approaches used by speech language pathologists for managing stuttering. The plan typically involves assessment, goal setting, selection of therapy approaches, transfer of skills to natural environments, follow up and maintenance. Key approaches discussed include shaping stutter-free speech, modification therapy, integrating the two, use of mechanical devices, counseling and various techniques for children including environmental manipulation, direct work, desensitization and parent-child interaction therapy. Transfer, maintenance and follow up play important roles in ensuring new skills are maintained over time.
