The various components
of the strategic control
process
NAME OR LOGO
Six Steps of the Strategic Control Process
Determine
Organization’s
Vision and
Mission; Goals
and objectives
Set Standards
Compare the
performance from
past, present and
take future actions
Measure
Performance
What is actually
happening? Are the
standards being
met?
Compare
Performance
Competitive
benchmarking can
help you determine if
any gaps between
targets and actuals
are normal for the
industry, or are signs
of an internal
problem.
Analyze
deviations
Did you set the
right standards?
4
Take Action
Depending on the
cause of each
deviation, you’ll
either decide to
take action to
correct
performance,
revise the
standard, or take
no action.

What is Behavioral
Control?
Behavioral control refers to facts that show
whether there is a right to direct or control how
the worker does the work.
5
- A worker is an employee when the business has
the right to direct and control the worker.
- as long as the employer has the right to direct
and control the work.
- focuses on controlling the actions that ultimately
lead to results.
The behavioral
control factors
fall into the
categories of:
1. Type of instructions given
2. Degree of instruction
3. Evaluation systems
4. Training
NAME OR LOGO
types of instructions about how to do work
6
Types of Instructions
Given
In particular,
various rules and
procedures are
used to
standardize or to
dictate behavior
-for example, signs are
posted in restaurant
bathrooms reminding
employees that they must
wash their hands before
returning to work.
When and where
to do the work.
What tools or
equipment to
use.
What workers to
hire or to assist
with the work.
Where to
purchase supplies
and services.
NAME OR LOGO
Degree of
Instruction
Degree of Instruction means that the more
detailed the instructions, the more control
the business exercises over the worker
- More detailed
instructions
indicate that the
worker is an
employee.
- Less detailed
instructions
reflects less
control, indicating
that the worker is
more likely an
independent
contractor.
7
NAME OR LOGO
to examine how well an employee is
performing in his or her job.
8
Evaluation System
Why it should be
implemented?
• Performance evaluations can
also be called performance
appraisals, performance
assessments, or employee
appraisals.
1. the evaluation process should
encourage positive performance
and behavior.
2. It is a way to satisfy employee
curiosity as to how well they are
performing in their job.
3. It can also be used as a tool to
develop employees.
4. It can provide a basis for pay
raises, promotions, and legal
disciplinary actions.
NAME OR LOGO
-has specific goals of improving one's
capability, capacity, productivity and
performance.
9
Training
• Training presents a
prime opportunity to
expand the knowledge
base of all employees
So what are the
benefits?
1. Improved employee performance
2. Improved employee satisfaction and morale
3. Addressing weaknesses
4. Consistency
5. Increased productivity and adherence to quality standards
6. Increased innovation in new strategies and products
7. Reduced employee turnover
8. Enhances company reputation and profile
NAME OR LOGO
Premise Control
premise control is designed to continually and systematically verify whether those
assumptions.
10
NAME OR LOGO
○ “Premise control is designed to
check systematically and
continuously whether the premises
on which the strategy is based are
still valid” (Pearce & Robinson,
2005, p. 366).
○ Perhaps premise control and other
types of controls should be
discussed quarterly at company
meetings.
11
What is Premise
Control?
Premise control is used to systematically and
continuously check whether the premises and
assumptions on which the strategy is based are still
valid.

Environmental
Factors
- such as inflation,
interest rates and social
changes
Industrial Factors
▬ such as competitors,
suppliers and substitutes
(barriers to entry)

2. Industrial Factor

NAME OR LOGO 14
MECHANICS:
- Class should have 2 groups
- 1-2 actors to execute the word/s properly
- The remaining members of the group need to guess the act.
- 3 levels (easy, medium and difficult)
In this game, even we have the best actors, but if they did not act out the
words properly it will not become a success.
Same goes to strategic control, even we have a good strategic plan but failed
in execution it will be nothing.
Monitoring and evaluating after implementation is a IMPORTANT.
