Cloud Computing
What is Cloud Computing
❖ Distributed computing on internet or delivery of computing service over the internet.
❖ Eg: Yahoo!, GMail, Hotmail
❖ Instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail
account remotely. The software and storage for your account doesn't exist on your
computer -- it's on the service's computer cloud.
History of Cloud Computing
❖ Concept evolved in 1950(IBM) called RJE (Remote Job Entry Process).
❖ In 2006 Amazon provided First public cloud AWS(Amazon Web Service).
Benefits of Cloud Computing
❖ Reduce the complexity of networks.
❖ Do not have to buy software licenses.
❖ Customization.
❖ Cloud providers that have specialized in a particular area (such as e-mail) can bring
advanced services that a single company might not be able to afford or develop.
❖ Scalability, Reliability and Efficiency.
Cloud Components
It has three components
❖ Client computers
❖ Distributed Servers
❖ Datacenters
Cloud Computing Architecture
Learn Projects in Cloud Computing
❖ There are many compelling economic arguments for adopting Cloud technology that
will continue to drive the need for Cloud development skills. Learning these skills is an
important task for every developer.
❖ There are many common problems that arise when developing Cloud projects. Many of
the concepts required predate the emergence of the Cloud and can be found in
domains like Edge Computing and Linux Containers
Learn Projects in Cloud Computing
❖ One key difference between these earlier technologies and the Cloud is the concept of
Virtualisation, the idea of “Infrastructure as Code”. Automation is another key skill that has emerged
as a technique used to support the deployment and management of Virtual Infrastructure.
❖ With the widespread adoption of Virtualisation, key security issues have arisen that require a
deeper understanding of the Linux kernel when deploying applications as Linux Containers(Docker).
Evolving from this we have distributed clusters of Docker containers orchestrated with technologies
like Kubernetes. RedHat and Google provide this architecture with their container platforms.
