Capturing the spirit of lean coffee in presentationsJohn Kresse
I gave this presentation at the NYC Lean/Kanban April 2016 monthly meetup. I think we can learn from the lean coffee meeting format to make our presentations more engaging, democratic, and empowering for our audiences with three presentation rule:
1. Structure format changes into your presentations every 5-7 minutes (change speakers, change media delivery style, pose a question to the audience).
2. Use audience feedback through new presentation technology tools (sli.do, for example) to allow your audience to drive your discussion.
3. Learn from the flipped classroom model to not only make presentations more active, but to allow you to dive deeper into your subject matter.

Product School Presentation--Moosh BooshJohn Kresse
In Spring 2016, I gave a short presentation at the Product School in New York City on Moosh Boosh, a startup idea and mobile app.
The premise behind Moosh Boosh is simple: what if you could something small to make someone's day (buy them their favorite cup of coffee), all from your smartphone. You could call it Venmo or Snapchat for small gift-giving.
Accompanying the presentation, I created mockups in Balsamiq and then high fidelity wireframes in Sketch.

FInancial Modeling and Valuations for Startups: Telling your Story with NumbersForesight Valuation Group
Telling your story with numbers, building a solid financial model and determining pre-money valuations for fundraising, are some of the most challenging activities for entrepreneurs.
Creating a set of realistic financial projections is critical to effectively communicating valuation expectations to investors and potential partners, while at the same time serving as an important tool to help articulate how you will prioritize spending and maximize the return on investment for an investor.
Based on her experiences as a valuation expert, CFO, start-up advisor and Stanford Lecturer, Efrat Kasznik will provide practical, hands-on tools on how you can :
• Build a robust business and financial model, based upon realistic expectations and sound assumptions
• Analyze different revenue models and cost structures associated with the formation of an emerging venture
• Implement best practices for structuring short and long term financial projections for your business plan and investor fundraising
• Understand the factors and models that determine startup valuations throughout the funding cycle, from seed funding to an exit event
• Successfully communicate your financial vision and understanding to investors
GuideStar's 2016 Impact Call.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. ET, we will hold our next Impact Call. Loosely based on the quarterly earnings calls held by publicly owned companies, GuideStar's Impact Calls are the first steps in addressing new definitions of transparency:
Timely—Impact Calls are held fewer than 60 days after the quarter's or year's end.
Interactive—Impact Calls are meaningful discussions about what our results really mean. Participants have an opportunity to have questions answered in real time.
Inclusive—Everyone is invited to our Impact Call.
Comprehensive—Although we report on finances during our Impact Calls, we also address programmatic and operational metrics as well as our strategy. Finances are only one piece of a much larger picture when it comes to nonprofit impact.
Our goal is not simply to report our results but to jump-start the sector’s conversation on how transparency is defined and conveyed across the sector.

OECD will present the data cycle, process management, and updates of CRS classifications. Bloomberg is a rather unique player in the sustainability space – it is an aggregator and provider of ESG data, a media outlet following and analyzing key developments in the space, and a company with sustainability-minded leadership that just issued an impact report following both GRI and SASB reporting standards, all in one. In this presentation, Bloomberg LP’s Global Head of Sustainable Business & Finance Curtis Ravenel will share his latest observations on overall progress in aggregating and reporting ESG performance data.

RIO MARKERS: INTRODUCTION
The Rio Markers indicate the degree of relevance of a given activity
in addressing the objectives of a Rio Convention.
Rio Markers are descriptive rather than quantitative. They are used
for giving an indication of the policy objectives targeted by a given
activity, not exact financial quantifications.

RIO MARKERS: INTRODUCTION
The screening of an activity against the objectives of a Convention can result in the
following scores:
1: Significant
Means that targeting the
objectives of the
Convention is an important
but secondary purpose of
the activity (i.e. not one of
the principal reasons for
undertaking the activity
2: Principal
Means that targeting the
objectives of the
Convention is an explicit
objective of the activity and
fundamental in its design
(i.e. the activity would not
have been undertaken
without this objective
3: Action
Programme/AP-related:
For desertification only.
Means that the activity
was undertaken to combat
desertification/land
degradation as a principal
objective and in support of
an action programme
(NAP, SRAP or RAP) to
implement the UNCCD
0: Not targeted
Means that the
activity is found not to
be targeted to the
Convention.
It is important to note that only the UNCCD has a dedicated marker for activities that specifically refer
to the UNCCD process and/or support a national or (sub)regional action programme.
To qualify for a score “principal”, “significant”, or “AP-related”, the objective has to be explicitly
promoted in project documentation.

RIO MARKERS: TIPS
Tips on Assigning Rio Markers:
Activities should be marked according to their stated objectives.
An activity that undertakes or facilitates mainstreaming can qualify for the
principal score.
Only one score can be selected for each activity for each Convention.
However, the same activity can qualify for more than one Convention’s
marker.

The Relevant Activity Codes (RACs) indicate categories of measures

RELEVANT ACTIVITY CODES: SAMPLE
UFA
Consider our example of the sustainable forest management project:
Let’s imagine the project funded research as well as information and advocacy
campaigns for sustainable land management in forests.
Capacity building and resource mobilization strategies were put into place for
the project to become self-sustaining.
The project enhanced the resilience of the ecosystems, along with carbon
sequestration elements, ecosystem rehabilitation, and land restoration.
Let’s fill this in on the UFA.

Consider our example of the sustainable forest management project:
As we have imagined it, our project improves the conditions affected
ecosystems (forests) globally, and enables resource mobilization. It also has
important capacity building and advocacy raising elements.

CONCLUSION: KEY TERMS
Key terms and questions to classify each activity are:
Strategic and Operational
Objectives: Which Strategic or
Operational Objectives does
the activity address?
Relevant Activity Codes
(RACs): Which areas or
measures can the activity
be categorized under?
Rio Markers: How relevant
is the activity to addressing
the needs of each
Convention?
Financial Instruments: What
types of financing
instruments were used?
