attend Confidentiality training at least
once a year especially for those employees
who handle sensitive data on a regular basis.

Your company needs to develop privacy policies and workflows that
enable privacy, security, and confidential data and records
management.
4. Employee Training needs to include definitions of
confidential records and data.
The trainer needs to describe various company situations that would
require confidentiality, authorization to release private information, and
consent.
Various HIPAA and FERPA regulations regarding confidential data use
needs to be explained to employees.
5. Create power point presentations that reflect your
company’s confidential policies and procedures
that include state and federal regulations.
Offer confidentiality training via classroom setting,
through web-based videos, and
via conference calls.
Create pamplets and visual aids for employees
to keep as a reference of your company’s
confidentiality policies and procedures.
6. Allow employees to role play in case scenarios that relate to your workplace.
Demonstrate for employees how to handle a confidentiality breach.
Teach them how to recognize one when they witness it.
Explain your company’s internal confidentiality breach reporting process,
and how to report a HIPAA violation.
Teach employees ways to avoid a breach of this kind.
Inform them of legal consequences/legal action one commits a
confidentiality violation.
7. Post training materials on your company’s
shared network drive.
Provide trainer’s contact information as well as
any contact information for company privacy
and compliance officers.
Following confidentiality training, provide time
to answer any employee’s questions.
