Biology is divided into many
different levels of study
The smallest part of living
things is sub-atomic matter
But for our study, we will start with
the smallest level of study as
molecules
                       Water
                       DNA
                       Proteins
                       Carbohydrates
                     -Lipids (fats)
                    -Nucleotides
The largest system of study
is the biosphere
 The biosphere
 contains all the
 ecosystems
 Scientists can view
 the biosphere from
 satellites to gain
 valuable data.
Review: Other terms to
know
                Autotrophs
                - organisms that
                capture energy from
the sun & use it to
                produce their own
                food.
                -Also called
                producers
Heterotrophs
               Organisms that
               obtain energy from
               foods it consumes
               Also called a
               consumer
Adaptation
             Inherited
             characteristics that
             increases an
             organism’s chance of
             survival
Adaptations= traits for
survival
Long eyelashes & ears lined with
               hair for protection from blowing
               sand.
               Snowshoe effect prevents sinking
in sand as the body weight rests
               on sole pads .
Long legs allows animal to travel
               great distances
Fat stored in humps helps animal
               t survive periods without food,
               metabolizes fat produces water as
               a byproduct
