Cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. Over half a million people in the US undergo cholecystectomy each year. During the procedure, instruments such as a laparoscope, grasper, needle driver, and trocars are used to remove the gallbladder either through several small incisions using laparoscopic techniques or through a single larger incision in an open procedure.
