The Late Baroque period saw developments in instrumental music forms and genres. The concerto grosso featured a small group of soloists alternating with a larger ensemble. Opera seria was dominated by da capo arias for leading singers like castrati and sopranos, with minimal ensembles and choruses. Keyboard instruments like harpsichord and organ remained prominent, and woodwind instruments like oboe, bassoon, and transverse flute gained importance as solo instruments through sonatas and concertos. String instruments gradually standardized tuning and technique during this period.
