SMART ROOM
LIGHTS UP WHEN YOU WALK IN, LIGHTS OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE
ABSTRACT
The energy crisis in Bangladesh and elsewhere
all over the world is an area of major concern.
In order to solve this problem, we asked
ourselves what can we do to make more of the
energy produced. Huge amount of electrical
power is wasted because of lack of individual
attempt. Often unattended rooms and office
places are left without turning off the
electrical appliances. So we came up with a
simple, cost-efficient plan to equip each room
with an Automated Electrical System. The
lights, air conditioners and fans will turn off
automatically if it is unattended. To add some
extra components, we made an Automatic
Password Protected Locking Device and a
Motorized Curtain Opening and Closing System.
This idea feeds our need to modernize each
home while making it more eco-friendly and
cost-efficient.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
1. Automated Lighting and Air-conditioning
System (ALAS):
Our device uses a sonar sensor that measures
change in distance to detect human and if
there is presence of a single person, it turns
on the electronic devices such as light and AC
in the room.
2. The Automatic Password Protected Locking
Device:
This device uses a servo motor used to drive a
latch lock into its socket when a key is
pressed and open the lock when the correct
password input is provided.
3. The Motorized Curtain Opening & Closing
System:
The automated curtain opening system uses a
servo motor to open and close curtains with
the press of a button and without any hassle.
LIMITATIONS
1. The code for the automatic curtain opening
and closing system has to be adjusted to change
the angle of rotation of the motor depending on
the size of the window.
2. The Automatic Lighting and Air-conditioning
system uses a sonar sensor which means any
obstacle, not just humans would switch on the
circuit.
3. The password protected security lock is not
sturdy enough for holding a full-scale door. The
prototype needs more modification.
THE FUTURE
1. All modern buildings would adopt our SMART
ROOM technology, thus helping with the
electricity crisis and making cities more
eco-friendly.
2. We wish to replace the sonar sensor in ALAS
with a infra-red sensor to detect humans
specifically.
3. Mass production and more design efficiency
will make our project more cost-efficient
and any household/office space can employ
our technology.

Poster Presentation of SMART ROOM : LIGHTS UP WHEN YOU WALK IN, LIGHTS OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE

  • 1. SMART ROOM LIGHTS UP WHEN YOU WALK IN, LIGHTS OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE ABSTRACT The energy crisis in Bangladesh and elsewhere all over the world is an area of major concern. In order to solve this problem, we asked ourselves what can we do to make more of the energy produced. Huge amount of electrical power is wasted because of lack of individual attempt. Often unattended rooms and office places are left without turning off the electrical appliances. So we came up with a simple, cost-efficient plan to equip each room with an Automated Electrical System. The lights, air conditioners and fans will turn off automatically if it is unattended. To add some extra components, we made an Automatic Password Protected Locking Device and a Motorized Curtain Opening and Closing System. This idea feeds our need to modernize each home while making it more eco-friendly and cost-efficient. WORKING PRINCIPLE 1. Automated Lighting and Air-conditioning System (ALAS): Our device uses a sonar sensor that measures change in distance to detect human and if there is presence of a single person, it turns on the electronic devices such as light and AC in the room. 2. The Automatic Password Protected Locking Device: This device uses a servo motor used to drive a latch lock into its socket when a key is pressed and open the lock when the correct password input is provided. 3. The Motorized Curtain Opening & Closing System: The automated curtain opening system uses a servo motor to open and close curtains with the press of a button and without any hassle. LIMITATIONS 1. The code for the automatic curtain opening and closing system has to be adjusted to change the angle of rotation of the motor depending on the size of the window. 2. The Automatic Lighting and Air-conditioning system uses a sonar sensor which means any obstacle, not just humans would switch on the circuit. 3. The password protected security lock is not sturdy enough for holding a full-scale door. The prototype needs more modification. THE FUTURE 1. All modern buildings would adopt our SMART ROOM technology, thus helping with the electricity crisis and making cities more eco-friendly. 2. We wish to replace the sonar sensor in ALAS with a infra-red sensor to detect humans specifically. 3. Mass production and more design efficiency will make our project more cost-efficient and any household/office space can employ our technology.
