The patient has been experiencing hallucinations, paranoia, confusion, and aggression towards staff. She suffered smoke inhalation months ago which caused anoxic brain injury and severe dementia. Her current mental state and lab results rule out an acute delirium from renal issues. The psychologist suspects she may have delayed post-anoxic leukoencephalopathy, which can cause psychiatric symptoms weeks or months after recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning. A brain MRI is recommended to confirm or rule out this diagnosis, as well as consulting with a neurologist.
