The San Dieguito American Legion Post 416 is raising $2 million for a new facility as their current buildings from 1930 and 1940 are in need of renovation. They have grown their membership to over 600 members and volunteers 20,000 hours annually. They are a staple in the Encinitas community, organizing patriotic events. Their capital campaign kicked off in April 2019 with goals to raise $150k by July 2019, $1 million by December 2019, $1.2 million by April 2020, and their final goal of $2 million by February 2021 for construction of a new facility to support veterans for over 100 years.

5. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The San Dieguito American Legion Post 416 was established in 1931 by World War I Veterans as a sanctuary and
meeting place for active and recently detached servicemembers in North County San Diego. For the last 88 years this
facility has served veterans, family members, and the broader Encinitas community as a whole through charitable
donations and volunteer efforts. Whether it be helping a veteran in need around Christmas or organizing patriotic
displays during the 4th of July, Post 416 has become part of the fabric of the Encinitas Community.

San Dieguito American Legion Post 416 is raising $2M for a New Facility.
The older of the current two attached buildings was moved onto the site on Second Street at F Street in 1930 from
the old Camp Kearny, a World War I Army base in what is now the Kearny Mesa area, San Diego. The other
building, which houses the bar area, was brought from Camp Callan, a World War II base on what is now UC San
Diego, in the 1940s.
The land in Encinitas that the post sits on (less than 0.3 miles from the ocean) is owned outright. Unfortunately,
after 85+ years on the coast, the building is in dire need of renovation.
A modern facility is exactly what is needed to sustain operations and drive community engagement. Through your
generous donation, we intend to develop a structure which will stand the test of time and support our North County
Veteran Community for the next 100+ years.
