Disney Festival of Holidays Invites Guests to a Joyous Celebration Filled wit...Pablo Carrillo
At Disney California Adventure Park, the popular Disney Festival of Holidays is back with the sights, sounds and tastes of cherished holidays, creating a magical experience for guests through diverse culturalfestivities and seasonal traditions, Nov. 12, 2021 through Jan. 9, 2022.
Disney Festival of Holidays is an uplifting, heartwarming and uniquely Disney celebration that celebrates traditions associated with Christmas, Navidad, Hanukkah, Diwali, Kwanzaa and Three Kings Day. The festivities include live entertainment, holiday shopping and eight food marketplaces where guests will sip and savor culinary delights. A team of Disney chefs drew on inspiration from their own unique stories to create some of the festive foods on the marketplace menus. Younger guests will also enjoy fun crafts such as coloring greeting cards and making ornaments and lanterns to learn more about these holiday traditions.
Aguacate: Water Resources and System Resilience among Avocado Growers in San ...Riley Balikian
Abstract: San Diego County is considered an urban county, but has more farms than any other county in the United States, with over 5,700 operations. San Diego County is losing farmland at the extremely high rate of 8.4% every year, much of that land considered “prime.” This land is also among the most productive farmland in the United States in terms of crop production value, and is some of the last remaining land in agriculture in southern California. I take an interdisciplinary, systems approach to identify and describe the factors driving system change in the agricultural production sector in San Diego County, especially among avocado growers. Stakeholder interviews and a survey of avocado growers were supplemented by social and biophysical data to examine the issues at stake. Water-resource related issues—especially the cost of water—were identified as the most important issues facing avocado growers, but socioeconomic drivers and environmental drivers were identified as well, including land resources, drought conditions, tax laws, zoning ordinances, and commodity markets.

Jim Proce created a tradition in Palm Bay where every year during National Public Works Week the community would have the annual event on the grounds of City Hall. This well-attended event brought out countless citizens to learn about the services, the department, the staff, see equipment, participate in activities, and enjoy a free lunch while observing this great outreach event.
I am the editor and writer for this newsletter. I created a newsletter that is consistent with the club's branding on their website. Fluidity, strong content and visually appealing images are the newsletter's strong points.

BACK COUNTRY LAND TRUST
OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY
On February 4, 2006, the San Diego County
Board of Supervisors declared the day to be
‘Back Country Land Trust Day’ in honor of our
15th anniversary. The proclamation, signed by
all five Supervisors, recognizes that
• improvements made by Back Country
Land Trust have had a huge impact on
area residents in the communities of Al-
pine, Crest, Descanso, El Cajon,
Jamul, Potrero, and Santee;
and
• Back Country Land Trust has
partnered with the County of
San Diego to fulfill conservation
objectives outlined in the
County’s Multiple Species Con-
servation Program Plan; and
• Back Country Land Trust has
worked collaboratively with
public schools to implement
hands-on education programs
in order to connect youth with nature
through art, science, history, geography,
and special education classes; and
• Back Country Land Trust has been involved
in the County of San Diego’s process for
creating an interconnected County Trail
Plan and has encouraged connectivity
from the Alpine segment to its neighboring
communities of Descanso, Japatul, Crest,
Dehesa, and Blossom Valley; and
• the County of San Diego is committed to
recognizing and honoring those organiza-
tions that are dedicated to the best ideals
of public service, and Back Country Land
Trust is one such worthy organization.
We’re completely honored by this recognition
from the County of San Diego and
appreciate Supervisor Dianne Jacob
for her unwavering support of our mis-
sion to preserve San Diego’s rural and
scenic back country lands.
We understand that, after 15 years
and almost 5,000 acres of dedication
and simple hard work, we’re just be-
ginning to scratch the surface.
We need your support. Join us in pre-
serving the landscapes that make
San Diego unique. Help us accom-
plish our goals to complete the
Wright’s Field Preserve, establish a network of
1-5 acre farms throughout the County, and
strengthen our existing preserve areas through-
out San Diego’s back country.
We look forward to celebrating with you
throughout this year and always. We look for-
ward to another successful 15 years.

You’re Invited: 2006 Events
Thanks to overwhelming community support, the Back Country Land Trust was able to hold its first ever photo contest to
celebrate different artistic perspectives on Wright’s Field. With the leadership of Keli Cadenhead, the 2005 contest turned into
a 2006 Calendar of spectacular images (a huge thanks goes to John Pierce at Thompson Type for this undertaking). We’re using
many of the images in other outreach (look for them in The Alpine Sun 2006 “Our Town” supplement) and jazzing up our
website at www.bclt.org. Please visit our site for The King Photography Studio image gallery of Wright’s Field. Thanks, Andy!
We had help from some great judges who volunteered their time, energy and talent: Rita Sterling, Heather McDowell, Joe
Sterling, Laurie Hallihan, and Andy King. We’d like to take the opportunity to put in a plug for Sterling Insights, Rice Hall
James and Associates, State Farm Insurance and The King Photography Studio.
We encourage your participation in all of our events listed below, especially this year’s photo contest. We have a few 2006
calendars leftover. If you’re interested, please stop by our office to pick one up. A donation is encouraged but not required.
2005 Wright’s Field Photo Contest Winners (from left to right): Bill Waterworth, Jeannie Gregory, Marlene

The Terra Nova academy at Morse High School includes
curriculum based studies focused on nutrition, culinary arts,
and an on-site garden. Thanks to volunteer garden teacher
Julia Dashe, and the vision of Principal Rocio Weiss and
several teachers on staff, students have worked together to
put a garden in the ground.
Their mission: “Our learning community is built on a
foundation of rigorous instruction based on state standards
and project-based learning. We will empower students to
think critically and to solve real-world problems through the
exploration of environmental science, sound agricultural
practices, nutrition and culinary arts to prepare them for
post-secondary educational and career opportunities.”
To support ROOTS and the Terra Nova Garden, shop at
Ocean Beach People’s Organic Food Co-Op and leave your
change in the “BCLT” cup. To participate, “Break Bread” with
ROOTS at Region restaurant on April 17th or May 17th at
5:30pm to learn more. This project is supported by the
