1. Representation
Cover
The artists on my cover are represented as typical in many ways. For example my main image is of a
female teenager, she is represented as very feminine. This is shown as she has blonde hair which is
typical for a teenage girl, it is also represented through her make-up her make p is feminine as she
has pink lips and has clearly spent a lot of time and put a lot of effort into doing her make-up. This is
stereotypical as many teenage girls care about the way they look so spend lots of time making sure
they look good, the blonde is also stereotypical as it is seen as a feminine hair colour. This will appeal
to the target audience as they will see her as an idol as they will want to look like this.
I also have posters of artists on my cover; these are also represented as feminine. They are
represented as feminine as they have all again clearly spent a lot of time on their hair and make-up
but another way this is represented is through their accessories such as sun glasses and bracelets.
This is stereotypical as teenage females tend to like accessories.
On my double page spread I have used a male artist, male pop artist are usually represented as
fashionable, strong and caring about their appearance. The artist I have used on my double page
spread is clearly fashionable as he is wearing accessories such as a cap; this also shows how he cares
about his appearance as he has tried to look good. It is stereotypical for male pop artists to be
around the ages of 17-24 which is also another reason of how my artist is stereotypical. The colour
blue is often associated with males and the artist I have used is wearing blue which is again
stereotypical.
I also used typical language. I have used language such as ‘haha’ and used a more un-formal way of
writing as this represents teenagers. Using language like this will be more appealing to my target
audience as they will stereotypically use this language in their daily lives. This represents the artists
in my magazine as being young and fun as they are not formal and sophisticated as teenagers will
see this as boring and may not idolise the pop artists as much.
