The New York City s Puerto Rican Community
On 7 June 1969, hundreds of Puerto Ricans gathered in Spanish Harlem, New York City to protest the
arrest of Juan Fi Ortiz for a series of falsified crimes.[2] As a crowd gathered outside the People s
Church in El Barrio, Felipe Luciano addressed those assembled asserting that, We will not allow the
brutalization of our community to go on without a response. For every Puerto Rican that is brutalized,
there will be retaliation. [3]Luciano s statements were not ignored, and as the crowd filtered into the
streets their shouts of Despierta, Boricua. Defiende lo tuyo filled the air.
The events of 7 June 1969 were but one of many moments in the history of New York City s Puerto
Rican community that gave rise to and lent support for the Young Lords Party.[4] Indeed over the
course of the next five years this ethnic group of radical intellectuals would help bring attention to the
plight of the Puerto Rican community in New York City. This essay explores the history of the late
twentieth century Puerto Rican migrants in New York City through an examination of the Young
Lords Party (1969 to 1974). In doing so, it examines several significant topics, including the growth of
the Puerto Rican population in New York City; the unique challenges this ethnic group faced, and the
origins, growth and decline of the Young Lords Party.
Twentieth Century Migration of Puerto Ricans To New York City

Similarities Between The Hearst Castle And The Topakapi...
Title That I Haven t Figured Out Yet
The drastic difference in time periods between the Hearst Castle and the Topakapi Palace leads to the
differentiation in materiality and function, but the similarities of both the structures come together
with the grandiosity of the project and the lasting effect of the architecture. While the Hearst Castle
was initially built just to accommodate the Hearst family, the Topakapi palace was built for Mehmed
II and his dynasty. After a long line of collaboration with the Hearst family, Julia Morgan was
assigned to design a space for William Randolph Hearst in San Simeon because he was tired of going
up and camping and wanted something that would be more comfortable .[1] Morgan began
construction in 1919, and started with guest houses, since Hearst put emphasis on the idea of having
his family and friends over. Additionally, Morgan partially based her design on the tower of the church
at Ronda in Southern Spain, a favorite site of Hearst. The California location gave Morgan and Hearst
the excuse to resemble and mimic the renaissance style of Southern Spain. Controversy, the Topakapi
Palace was originally built in 1465 by the Sultan Mehmed II and his reign. The Topakapi Palace was a
center for administration, education and most importantly, to accommodate the Sultan. Aspects of
religion and spirituality were highly active through the site and the rich diversity of Islamic
architecture was prevalent throughout the space. Despite the

Men’s Angst with Society´s Perception of Masculinity
...men are unhappy and don t really know why.
Masculinity in the modern age is changing, so much so that many men feel inadequate. A large
amount of men are unable to understand what type of masculinity they fit into and what they want to
fit into. In Gurmeet S. Kanwal s article from Psychology Today: The masculinity crisis, male malaise,
and the challenge of becoming a good man he says that, the perception and image of heterosexual men
in this country has never been as negative, de idealized, and potentially harmful as it is now. And lots
of men are feeling it. Men are now feeling that they do not fit into or do not want to fit into popular
masculinity. This is similar to the way American men were feeling about masculinity ... Show more

This is similar to how men feel now; they believe they can do more than society accepts them to do.
An example would be where a man would want to be the stay at home dad and take care of the
children, where it may seem outlandish now, will most likely become easily accepted in the future.
History points toward progressive changes in equality for both genders after rough receptions of new
ideas of how they can act. These ties into my thesis that new masculinities will be established which in
time will become accepted by society just as it has happened in the past. The wanting for a new type
of masculinity to fit into by males is only fueled by the male malaise that has been spreading recently,
in Kanwal s article there are many examples of this. The Atlantic came out with an issue where the
cover had an article titled The End of Men by Hanna Rosin. She discusses how men have been the
dominant sex since the beginning of humanity, but that it is now changing to women who will start
gaining dominance, and how that only two of the fifteen growing jobs in the future, men have a larger
representation of. This sends a blow to the idea that men should be the breadwinners, and makes men
feel inept to be financially supportive. It only gets worse with articles such as Are Fathers Necessary?
by Pamela Paul, in which she states that there is nothing essential about men s contribution to their
children. Media bashfulness on male masculinity is

Art Critique
The first art work of Egypt I saw on the Google Cultural Institute website was the Relief sculpture of
Metjetji and his son Sabu pyah . This sculpture was found in the Tomb of Metjetji, Saqqara, Egypt.
The sculpture can be divided into two parts: hieroglyphs on the right, and the graph on the left which
drew a man who was holding staff in each hand. He is looking right, shows us his profile of his face,
knees and legs, while his eyes and chest are frontal. His kilt and hair are precise with vertical and
horizon lines. His necklace and bears are also detail. He has long hair and an elegant bracelet is on his
left hand. The sculpture tries to picture this man s body line. There is also a small man standing beside
the big man s feet. His body is also brown color, but he does not wear a kilt. They seem like watching
the view of the city together on the summit. I also saw the Statue (ANKH) on the website. It is a man
sitting on a chair. His back is straight, right hand is cross in fist and puts it on his thigh while his left
arm cross his body. His pose shows a great power and confidence, so I guess he is a noble. His lip is
thick but nose is small. I can identify his fingers and nails clearly. There are also some hieroglyphs on
his shoulder which claim the name of the man. Although this statue is not as precise as those ... Show

The Effects Of Population Control And Population Control
Pain comes on a spectrum. Pain can be a piercing pain, like a needle piercing the skin. Pain can be
throbbing waves of delirium that come from getting hit in the head. Pain can be an internal stimulus
that inhibits thoughts of bliss. Hunger is the pain or uneasy sensation caused by the want of food, and
affects a large amount of people worldwide. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization
estimates about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world suffer from chronic
malnourishment in a 2014 2016 study (worldhunger.org, 2016). The ability for humans to grow
exponentially on a limited amount of land is dangerous, for eventually the amount of resources
available will not be succinct enough to allow everyone to live. This leads to the question on whether
population control should be enacted to prevent such an event. But with the world s population
projected to reach 10.1 billion people by the year 2100, it is evident that some change must occur.
(Becker, 2011). Actions have been taken by the biochemical community to better understand human
nutritional needs and revolutionized how crops are grown. In order to sustain a large population,
measures must be taken to improve crop efficiency with the limited amount of land we have. The
recent development of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have allowed for unstable
combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that do not normally occur in
nature(livingnongmo.org). These GMOs allow a

An Unauthorized Purchase Of A Computer Game
The reporting student, the roommate, and the accused have resided together in the same residence live
room since the commencement of the fall 2015 semester. Admittedly, tensions between the three male
first year freshman have long since existed stemming from general personality clashes. Those clashes
it is believed furnish the basis of the initial incident.
As some point in the fall semester, perhaps during the month of October, the roommate witnessed the
accused accessed the reporting student s personal computer without permission and with the reporting
person s knowledge. On this occasion the accused was observed making an unauthorized purchase of
a computer game on the reporting person s computer. At some point thereafter, the roommate recalls,
the reporting person informed both the accused and the roommate that he did not account for specific
purchase that had appeared against his account.
On another occasion, the accused invited two other students into the room the three shares to show
them what he had discovered on the reporting student s computer. Upon entering into the room, the
accused was seen accessing the reporting student s personal computer, making using of passwords and
code accesses that had not previously been shared with the accused by the reporting student. Once
accused had imputed the various passwords and or access codes, he directed the two students to view
the screen of the reporting student s laptop computer.

Dual Language Learners Essay
Although all the strategies help me further understand dual language learners, there are a couple that
stand out. Let me start with strategy, planning 5. This strategy helped me to better understand that it is
not only beneficial to pick a book that is related to the academic objective, but also a book that the
children can relate to. When picking a book most teachers as well as I usually go for the books based
on the academic objective. Which is great, but when you pick a book the children can relate to. It
helps them to engage and participate more. It also helps with the discussion, because they are listening

what they are doing and they respond to it very well. Self and parallel talk help my DLLS to

Integrity In Research Paper
If integrity is never challenged, it cannot be measured. How many times have we heard people say, I
would never do what she did or I cannot believe he would do such a thing? Life can appear to be a
series of one epic fail or test after another. We have watched the rich and famous fall from their lofty
pedestals while those with integrity are rarely highlighted on the evening news. Integrity is doing the
right thing, even when nobody s watching. If integrity is the glue that holds our perception of a good
person together, how do we choose to be a person of integrity? Do we have the innate ability to
develop an integrous personality or are we forced to defy nature and overcome nurture? To seek a
Godly example of a life denoted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are hard pressed to find any fault in the life found in the pages of the book of Daniel. His example
of integrity is second to none in the Old Covenant. We do not have the first recordation of a stumble or
fall as with most of our biblical heroes. As we observe the integrity found in the life of Daniel, we
catch him in Chapter 6 headed to the lion s den. The famous Bible story of Daniel and the lions den is
more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is a match for the true
God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully and with distinction in the
reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When the Medo Persian Empire
conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s background and wisdom, he is
quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy.
Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. In addition
to being blessed with the ability to interpret dreams, he could also see what God had in store for the
Jewish nation. As the Lord revealed to Daniel his plan for his chosen people, he no doubt saw
glimpses of the holocaust and the multiple attempts to destroy Israel. There is always a remnant after
each catastrophe proving the Abrahamic Covenant withstands the test of time. God is faithful. In spite
of the countless years of slavery, the Israelites have endured hardships and continue to live

Risk Factors Leading For Blood Myeloid Dendritic Cells
risk factors such as tobacco smoking, male gender, race/ethnicity, stress, and aging. As an example,
Carrion et al. (2012), proposed a role for blood myeloid dendritic cells in sheltering and circulating
pathogens from the subgingival microbial biofilm in the periodontal pocket which are then transported
to atheromatous plaques lining coronary and other arteries. This and other pathways may play a role in
providing key signals for myeloid dendritic cell differentiation and atherogenic changes (39).
However, in recent years, the host response, rather than periodontopathogens, seems to be the primary
focus for elucidating the link between periodontal disease and CVD. Of particular interest, when pro

This hypothesis links inflammatory periodontal disease to CVD, such as atherosclerosis, without
necessarily invoking bacteria or their products interacting with the cardiovascular system (38). In this
regard Craig et al. (2003) found that the patients with severe rapidly progressing periodontitis showed
a 100% higher hs CRP level in the circulation (plus other biomarkers) than patients with mild
periodontitis (37). Regarding mechanisms, CRP can form a complex with oxidized low density
lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol which, when phagocytosed by macrophages infiltrating
atheroscleromatous plaques, can differentiate into foam cells (52). The production of MMPs, for
instance MMP 8 (collagenase 2) and MMP 9 (gelatinase B), by these modified inflammatory cells, can
destroy the thin collagen cap that covers cholesterol rich plaques lining the coronary arteries leading to
plaque rupture, thrombosis, and acute myocardial infarction (53 55).
3.2. Diabetes
Many studies in the literature have linked periodontitis and both type I and type II diabetes
(17,30,56,57). Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycemia which historically has been the
main diagnostic feature of the disease. Long term hyperglycemia produces a range of

Sam Walton s Strategy
Sam Walton s strategy was built on an unbreakable foundation: The Lowest Prices Anytime,
Anywhere. On July 2, 1962, Sam Walton opened the first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas which
the Walton family owned 24 stores, ringing up $12.7 million in sales. In 1969, the company officially
incorporated as Wal Mart Stores, Inc. (Vance Scott (1994)) Then in the 1970s, a decade of incredible
growth, Sam Walton began to take Walmart national, proving his vision s widespread appeal and
became a publicly traded company. Walmart s first stock was sold at $16.50 per share and eventually
listed on the New York Stock Exchange a couple years later. The first distribution center and Home
Office opened in Bentonville, Arkansas. By 1976, there were 51 stores and Walmart recorded sales of
$78 million. Inspired by visiting a Korean manufacturing facility, where Sam Walton soon introduced
the Walmart cheer. The Walmart Foundation was established in 1979. (Vance Scott (1994)) In the
1980s, the first Sam s Club opened, supplying and serving small businesses and individuals, and the
first Walmart Supercenter opened, combining the supermarket with the general merchandises. By
1990, Walmart was the nation s number one retailer. As the Walmart Supercenter redefined

Mountain Man Light Case Summary
DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mr. Chris Prangel
FROM: Merik Ducker Section AE1 Group 8
DATE: September 22, 2015
SUBJECT: Product Launch: Mountain Man Light
INTRODUCTION
The memorandum will analyze the proposed new product launch of Mountain Man Light (MMLight)
for Mr. Chris Prangel, the future owner of the Mountain Man Beer Company (MMBC). More
specifically, the memorandum will consider the advantages and disadvantages of launching MMLight,
as well as a cost volume profit analysis of the proposed new product launch. The memorandum will
conclude with recommendations for Mr. Prangel s consideration.

West ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, MMBC should deploy grass roots marketing like social media for the launch of MMLight to
avoid costly broadcast marketing and to appeal to the anti corporate attitudes of the younger
demographic revealed in the marketing focus group.
On Premise Location and New Customers To further decrease the likelihood of cannibalization and to
diversify its location offerings and customer base, the memorandum recommends that MMBC launch
MMLight into on premise locations (such as bars and restaurants). Industry observers remark that the
crucial consumer segment for beer companies are younger drinkers ages 21 27 years who are not yet
loyal to a brand of beer. Women and younger drinkers typically prefer light beer. These groups
frequently visit on premise locations and represent an exciting market for MMBC. For questions or
concerns, please feel free to e mail mducker2@illinois.edu or call 217.381.9578.

An Inventory Management System For A Mass Production...
An inventory management system, inventory control and inventory accuracy are paramount to a mass
production manufacturing facility, especially when multiple part types and multiple product types are
being produced. Raw component inventory can account for millions of dollars of an organizations
cash, which is not contributing to profitability until converted to a product and sold. Therefore, it is
essential for an organization to have an inventory management system and an inventory control
process to account for the value associated with each part and ultimately to return value to the
operation.
Inventory inaccuracy can negatively impact the performance of the production control system (Chan
Wang, 2014). It is difficult to account for raw materials at every stage of the manufacturing process
with complete accuracy, thus an error between the actual inventory level and the supply chain
management systems record of inventories cannot be completely avoided. However, when an
inaccuracy exists in the raw materials inventory it creates a negative effect on the material requirement
planning (MRP) systems. The inaccuracy of the material requirement planning systems has a negative
impact on the performance of production planning, scheduling and control, which contributes to a less
than optimal production output and potentially to disappointing customers with lack of manufactured
goods.
In a traditional inventory management system, it is assumed that the raw material stock

The Characteristics Of Extraversion, Assertiveness, And...
People who are extraverted and conscientious are said to be less likely to develop anxiety and
depression, and science backs this argument. The researchers at the University at Buffalo found that
the two traits may provide some protection against those disorders.
Extraversion is one of the big five personality traits characterized by assertiveness, excitability,
sociability, and talkativeness. People with this personality traits are outgoing, constantly seeking social
stimulation. They are usually filled with energy, full of life, and positivity. Their opposites, the
introverts, are usually quiet, reserved, and shy who seldom interact with other people. Introverts prefer
spending time alone and require minimal social interaction to live.

The participants also completed several questionnaires provided by the researchers. The traits
extraversion, conscientiousness, and neuroticism were analyzed in the study, because of their strong
connection with anxiety and depression, and mood disorders.
We know individually how these traits relate to symptoms, but now we are beginning to understand
how the traits might impact one another. We have to consider the whole person in order to understand
the likelihood of developing negative symptoms down the road, said Kristin Naragon Gainey, an
assistant professor at the Department of Psychology at UB and the lead author of the study.
Conscientiousness and neuroticism are also included in the big five personality traits. Conscientious
people are very thoughtful, possess good control over impulses, and have behaviors directly at goals in
life. They are usually organized and really pay attention to details.

How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar Wilde was
known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be
very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The
Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely
known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being
Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says
expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is
typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances
where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They
depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like
happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her.
There are numerous other instances where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of
the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A satire is typically a writing style that focuses on criticizing an individual, social class, or a society
by using humor or a hyperbole. Satires are used to ridicule shortcomings and do it in a funny or
comical manner. Lady Bracknell is an excellent example of satirical humor. When she is
contemplating whether not she approves of Earnest she points out all of his flaws and then gives a
funny, unexpected response. She criticizes him for living on the wrong side of the street that has
houses that are not quite as nice as the other sides. Algernon is also a great example of a satire. He is
known as self centered and will blame anyone except himself when problems arise

What Are The Eight Assumptions Of Family Systems Theory

Nuclear Power Supplies A Significant Part Of Current...
MOX Title
Background:
Nuclear power supplies a significant portion of current energy demands. One of the newer advances in
nuclear fuel is Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel. MOX is a mixture of UO2 and PuO2. Both of these starting
materials can be recovered from spent traditional nuclear fuel [1]. As such, MOX provides a method
for reducing waste generated during the operation of a nuclear reactor. MOX fuel is currently in use in
Europe, Russia and Japan [2]. The United States is in the process of developing next generation
nuclear reactors which can employ MOX. Due to the importance of MOX fuel, important research is
currently being to both understand the principles governing MOX, and how to enhance its
performance. MOX fuel is comprised of UO2 and PuO2. The UO2 is acquired either from naturally
occurring uranium oxide, or recovered from the spent fuel of a traditional nuclear reactor. Plutonium
metal is produced by the U 238 during operation of the nuclear reactor [1]. The Pu must then be
converted to PuO2. The first step in producing PuO2 is to dissolve the recovered Pu in HNO3 HF to
get Pu(NO3)4. Once the Pu(NO3)4 is generated, a few different methods can be used to acquire PuO2.
The most commercially used method involves the precipitation of plutonium oxalate. The Pu(NO3)4
is conditioned with hydrogen peroxide to produce Pu(lV). Next, an excess of oxalic acid is added to
reduce the solubility. The oxalate is then left to decompose to oxide which can then be filtered and
dried

I am reading Hunger by Michael Grant and I am on page 347. This book is about a small town named

Finally, when in battle Sam never shows of defeat or fear as it would worry the children and allow for
them to lose hope in the situation. When Caine had taken over the power plant, the book stated, I have
the power plant, that s obvious, Caine said. Stupid of you to lose it, Sam. Sam had no answer to that
(Grant 322). This shows that even though Sam had lost control of the vital power plant that they had
been fighting for, he did not respond with helplessness. He held his ground by not giving into the fear
that Caine had wished to be spelled upon him and his army of children. The children were not able to
feel this fear because they felt if Sam stayed strong the rest would follow. Not only is Sam
courageous, he is also a leader. First, when electing a person to be in charge of Perdido Beach kids
generally looked to Sam to be the mayor. This is because before the FAYZ, Sam was known as School

The Effect Of Bovine Growth Hormone Injections On Cows
According to Purdue University the United States is responsible for the production of over 20 billion
gallons of milk per year. This milk is either pasteurized and sold or further manufactured into other
forms of dairy such as cream cheese or ice cream. Many Americans have an unrealistic dream of
where their milk is produced; a grassy farm where the cows are able to roam freely and be milked by
hand. However, this is not the reality in America. Today, most dairy farms use machinery to milk their
cows and often leave them in cramped spaces. In order to increase the amount of milk a cow produces,
farmers have started to treat their cows with bovine growth hormone. Because of this practice many
arguments have come up to stop the use of Bovine Growth Hormone injections in cows. This is due to
the alleged side effects this milk is said to produce; for example cancer or antibiotic insensitivity. This
leaves anyone who drinks milk is potentially susceptible to these effects. The FDA gives details of the
biology of Bovine Growth Hormone. Bovine Growth Hormone is naturally found in all animals,
including humans, and enhances growth, development and health maintenance. It was discovered that
by injecting cows with the hormone, found in the pituitary gland, then their milk production would
increase. In the 1980 s it became possible to mass produce the hormone. Monsanto, Eli Lilly, Upjohn,
and American Cyanamid are the four companies that marketed bovine growth hormone. Monsanto

concept of trinity revolves around water resources, water management and utilization. Water
management remains pivotal to this all important source of national survival and development. The
Government s Water Vision is a step in the same direction. Pakistan has recently embarked upon a
road of economic prosperity. The need for energy in next decade will increase manifold. Similarly, the
agricultural output will have to keep pace with the population explosion. Keeping in view the

Media Credibility In Social Media
Surveys indicate that in 2016, most Americans, 62%, used social media to access news (Pew Research
Center, 2016). Nearly 80% of American journalists use social media (Lee, 2015). Social media has
become a source for both creating and obtaining news (Yamamoto, Nah, Chung, 2017). As technology
changes how people receive news, it also changes how they evaluate credibility (Lee, 2015). Research
into media credibility has evolved over the years, a simplified definition of media credibility might be
believability, accuracy, and trustworthiness (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014).
Media credibility focuses on the believability of the news channel. Source credibility focuses on the
senders of the messages (Bucy, 2003).
Several theorists have posited in the evaluation the perception of credibility. The current study aims to
concentrate on methods social media users may develop to evaluate the credibility of the news they
access online as well as how familiarity affects the user s perceptions of credibility. Research indicates
that social media users evaluate credibility based on familiarity with the brand (Calvo Porral. Martínez
Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). In other words, if a social media user is familiar with The New
York Times, they are more likely to trust the news posted on social media if it comes from the New
York Times. Brand familiarity allows social media users to quickly examine logo, site presentation,
and grammar to help them

Environmental Ethics And Pollution
Pollution is a growing concern for some people, but for others it is of no importance. The way humans
treat the environment is such a controversial topic that people began to examine the topic from a moral
standpoint, so much so that three approaches were developed. The Anthropocentric Approach, the
Sentientist Approach, and the Biocentric Approach are the main theories people get examine when
debating about environmental ethics. People who have an anthropocentric view believe that nature is
there to satisfy human interests, harming the environment is only bad if it also harms humans. For
example, cutting down a tree to build a house would be a positive thing because it is valuable to
humans. However, if cutting down the tree did not bring about a positive outcome the action would be
negative. William Baxter is one of the most vocal ethicist that strongly believe in the anthropocentric
approach. As stated before, William Baxter focuses on human interests. He believes that the
environment is just a means, a stepping stone to satisfy humans wants and needs. In addition, Baxter
believes living in a clean environment is not as achievable as others believe it to be because it is such
a broad goal. Baxter argues that clear goals are needed to address moral questions about the
environment because the where, when, why, and how are never fully covered when discussing the
topic. There is never a clear and concise goal when deliberating environmental issues. For example, if

documentation the owner/operator had let the unqualified pilot fly. The pilot had experience flying this

or not the pilot had experience flying in mountainous areas because the pilot s logbook was never

acquiring a weather report, by failing to do a proper weight and balance of the aircraft, and he failed to
secure the cargo properly. Zonk employee s failed the pilot by failing to inquire about the pilot s

The legislation is supported by the Patents Rule, 1972( the Rules ) which have been amended and
update periodically, the latest amendment being Patents(Amendment) Rules, 1999.
Key Features of Patents:
*) the term of the patents was originally 14 years. This was amended under TRIPS obligations to 20
years
*) Software can probably be patented in India. In the US and the European Union it can be patented if
it shows technical effect. Article 27 of TRIPS lists out the patentable subject matter.
*) Business Method cannot be patented in India as of now. It can be patented in US and European
Union if it uses technology in a unique manner.
*) The international governing patents include Paris convention and the Patent convention treaty.
Copyrights:
Copyright is about protecting the expression of an idea, rather than the idea itself. It covers original
literacy, dramatic, musical or artistic work. Literacy works include computer programs, tables and
compilations including computer database.
Copyright Law:
In India the Intellectual Property rights of computer software is covered under copyright law.
Accordingly the copyright of computer software is protected under the provisions of the Indian
Copyright Act 1957, which was substantially amended in 1994 and reintroduced in 1995. With these
changes, the Indian Copyright Law has become one of the most stringent laws in the world.

Industrial America from the American Steel Industry to the Early 1970 s
The steel industry has been profoundly important to the development of USA by its value of output,
input to the American manufacturing industries and in terms of the extent of its employment in the
past. It s been important because of its political clout of its corporations and finally it s been important
for strategic reasons.
Background to the American Steel Industry
The industry dates from mid 19th century when it grew out of the iron industry. There was huge
demand for steel following the end of the Civil War and the building of the great trans continental
railway. The industry centred in Pittsburgh where the classic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Appalachian deposits of iron ore become very much depleted and development of ore deposits to the
West of Lake Superior was accelerated. The Mesabi Range ores has been worked by Rockefeller since
1892. Open cast production kept costs low, as did the great and advances in ore carriers which
transported the ores east wards through the Great Lakes. Technological advance allowed lower grade
taconite ores to be beneficiated and so enabled them to bear the transport costs to the steel mills
further east.
Demand for Steel: This continued to rise in aggregate throughout much of the first half of the 20th
century. The nature of the demand altered however. Much less steel was now needed for rails, but
structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for
tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries.
Organisation of the industry: At the turn of the century, there was much horizontal integration and
merger activity reflecting, amongst other things, a desire to reduce competition and to increase the
scale of enterprises. Some companies became involved in vertical integration, being particularly
anxious to secure their supplies of coking coal and iron ore (the US relied very heavily on indigenous

In the article Fossil Fuels Improve the Planet (Epstein, 2013), Alex Epstein s main claim was that
fossil fuels should be used without restriction as they provide reliable and affordable energy that
improves the lives of mankind. Aiming to convince the reader fossil fuels should be freely used, he
first argued that the energy provided by fossil fuels is vital to the health and well being of mankind.

is unreliable, not cost effective and also unable to be mass produced. He is able to support this with his
claim that even after years of investments from many countries renewable energy only accounts for
less than 0.5% of the planets energy. He also supports this by quoting examples of some richer
countries that have been unsuccessful in making renewable energies usable on a larger scale even after
spending large sums of money, resulting in rising youth unemployment rates as high as 50% in Spain

Master Of Science Degree Programs
Master of Science Degree Programs
This entry gives a general overview of online Master of Science programs, then specifically examines
programs in high demand and those offered in accelerated formats. Next, the entry focuses on
information students need to succeed in M.S. programs: how to find the right program, and a major
problem that they will likely face during online matriculation.
A Master of Science degree (in Latin, Magister Scientaie) is a postgraduate academic Master s Degree
awarded by universities worldwide. In abbreviated form, the degree may appear on academic
transcripts variously as MSc., M.Sc., M.Sci., M.Si., Sc.M., M.S., MS, AM or SM. After the Master of

The latter option is most common. It involves writing and defending a thesis or completing a research
project which represents the culmination of the material learned.
Admission to a Master s program is normally contingent upon holding a bachelor s degree. Should the
student desire to graduate from a doctoral program, Master s level training is a prerequisite. In some
fields or graduate programs, work on a doctorate can begin as soon as the bachelor s degree is
finished. Some programs offer a joint Bachelor s and Master s degree after four to five years of study.
At the completion of these programs both a B.A. and an M.S. can be awarded.
For thesis projects, students will typically work with an academic adviser to propose a topic, write a
research prospectus and draft a final paper describing the research results. The research process takes
about one year. The thesis is then reviewed by the student s academic committee who must approve
the paper before the student can proceed to graduation. If revisions are needed, graduation could be
delayed for one or more semesters.
Many graduate schools have residency requirements to complete a degree. A student may be required
to spend at least one year living on campus and must accumulate a minimum number of course credits
to be considered eligible for his degree. As online graduate education advanced, this residency
requirement has been adjusted. Matriculation online may

Macbeth Tomorrow And Tomorrow Creeps Me From Day To Day
She should have died hereafter. There would have been a time for such a word. (line 17) Macbeth
utters these words after he hears the news of his wife s death. He is implying that now is not the time
for such a thing to happen. She should not have died right then because those words have little
meaning compared to what was happening at the time. If she had died a day or two after, that would
have been the time to mourn. Macbeth continues on saying, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
creeps in this petty pace from day to day (line 19) meaning that no matter what happens today, the
war, his wife s death, tomorrow will still come. Tomorrow happens whether we like it or not and it
seems to come faster each day. The next few lines, To the last syllables of recorded time, and all our

What Is D Artagnan Flawed
The character D Artagnan was flawed. In the beginning, the movie portrayed D Artagnan as a great
swordsman and can defend himself if needed; he was even going to fight all of the musketeers! The
problem is that D Artagnan got himself knocked out or kidnapped quite a few times. I understand that
he is new to this musketeer life, but to be worthy of the position he should have been less reckless and
more skillful in his fighting. Another thing is when D Artagnan and Athos got into a rough situation,
he left Athos. The Musketeers motto is, all for one and one for all, after all. Athos was proving that he
is a musketeer for a reason, and he threatened D Artagnan to leave. Athos was risking his life for the
safety of the King and Queen, and the people of France; that is what a musketeer should be doing. ...

a musketeer or a townsperson. I understand that he, rightfully so, should be the one to avenge his
father, but for a good bit, D Artagnan looked like he was going to lose the fight. In all, I thought that
Constance was a useless person. She never helped or did anything besides add in a little romance. On

Essay on Toni Morrison s Beloved
Symbolism in Beloved
In the novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, attempts to promote a variety of different themes and
ideas by symbolizing them in minor events and situations. This symbolism is evident throughout the
entire novel and is very crucial to the understanding and analyzing of the text. A good example of this
is the ice skating scene. Morrison uses this scene to represent the slow, but consistent, deterioration of
the family living in 124 and to foreshadow the ultimate demise of the family unit. Morrison writes
repeatedly, Nobody saw them falling, yet in all reality they were falling, and falling fast (Morrison
174). There are a number of details, including the setting, Sethe s emotions, the choice of ... Show

Her mind is clouded with emotions and rememories. But in the ice skating scene this appears to
change as Morrison writes, Anybody feeling sorry for [Sethe], anybody wandering by to peep in and
see how she was getting on would discover that the woman... was sailing happily on a frozen lake
(Morrison 174). Sethe appeared to be happy once again. At one point, Sethe takes on the qualities of
some kind of wild animal, having four legs. After falling on the ice Sethe rose to her hands and knees,
laughter still shaking her chest, making her eyes wet. She stayed that way for a while, on all fours
(Morrison 175). Paul D also refers to her as being an animal and having four legs later in the novel. It
is also interesting that Morrison writes, Sethe couldn t skate a lick... (Morrison 174) Sethe did not
know how to skate, just like she did not know how to be a parent. This inability later leads to the
downfall of the family.
Morrison takes great detail in describing which shoes each member of the family wears while ice
skating. Sethe says, We ll take turns. Two skates on one; one skate on one; and shoe slide for the other
(Morrison 174). Morrison writes, Beloved wore the pair (Morrison 174). Beloved was given the two
best skates because she was the least stable of the three. She needed the most attention, the most help

Summary Of Concentration Camp Survivor, By Viktor E. Frankl
Viktor E. Frankl, a psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, was born into a Jewish family in Vienna,
Austria on March 26, 1905. Throughout his early life Frankl portrayed an immense interest into
psychology and the inner workings of the human thought process. Frankl completed his schooling in
psychology at the University of Vienna in 1925. He practiced psychiatry until 1942, when he and his
family were deported to the Nazi ghetto of Theresienstadt where he was kept until he and his wife
were transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp. It is here that Frankl s written story begins.
Frankl, however, does not write the story of the typical concentration camp survivor. Frankl would
agree with Thomas Hardy when he says, A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it
must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and
woman. Frankl does not solely speak about the dismal existence that was created in the concentration
camps that he was housed within. He also speaks of the psychological factors that were at play during
his time in the concentration camps, and what he believed was going on inside the minds of the
prisoners. In this is the reason Frankl s story is truly unique. Frankl s story is not simply unique it is,
as stated by Hardy, exceptional . Frankl in order to convey his analysis of the psyche of the prisoners
utilized vivid visual imagery, passionate appeals to pathos, and elegant and dramatic

What Role Does Risk Management Play Within The Homeland...
What role does risk management play within the homeland security enterprise? To answer that
question we first have to examine what risk management is. Risk management is an anaclitic approach
to figuring out the likelihood that an event will impact a specific assets, person, or function and then
implementing steps to mitigate the impact or consequence of the event. (Decker, 2001) The Standard
risk management formula that the Department of Homeland Security uses is R=T*V*C or Risk =
Threat * Vulnerability * Consequence. To understand this formula and how it is used we first have to
beak down each part. Risk is defined by Homeland Security as potential for an unwanted outcome
resulting from an incident, event, or occurrence, as determined by its likelihood and the associated
consequences. They define threat as natural or man made occurrence, individual, entity, or action that
has or indicates the potential to harm life, information, operations, the environment, and/or property.
Vulnerability is defined as qualitative or quantitative expression of the level to which an entity, asset,
system, network, or geographic area is susceptible to harm when it experiences a hazard. And lastly
they define consequence simply as effect of an event, incident, or occurrence. (Homeland Security,
2010)
Before The Department of Homeland Security can implement this formula, they first have to go
through a series of assessments. These are threat assessments, vulnerability assessments,

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Biodiesle
ABSTRACT
As renewable, sustainable and alternative fuel compression ignition engines, biodiesel instead of

for biodiesel so far. From the previous study from other researcher, the effect of biodiesel on engine
performances and emission on the formation of soot in the different biodiesel blend is being cited for
the revision. But, on chapter 4 of this report there will the discussion on data and result for this study.

With the commercialization of bioenergy, it has provided an effective way to fight against the problem
of petroleum scarce and the influence on environment. Today, fossil fuels take up 80% of the primary

Biodiesel, as an alternative fuel of diesel, is describe as fatty acid methyl or ethyl esters from

researches pointed out that it might help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote sustainable
rural development and improve income distribution, there still exist some resistances for using it. The
major cause is the lack of knowledge about the influence of biodiesel or diesel engines. Other than
that, the using of biodiesel doesn t giving the same amount of energy compared to original diesel

electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating
properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the
electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation
is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because
conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more
slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate
overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. The electrical current activates nerves in the

Uk Pre Goal Setting Regime
UK Pre Goal Setting Regime
Regulating health and safety offshore has been a challenge due to its intricate and hostile environment.
In the 1960 s the UK first adopted a self regulatory approach by the industry that was: not subject to
any detailed regulatory stipulations or inspections . The Government made it a basic obligation in the
licence that licensees must comply with such instruction from the Minister . The minister however had
not thought about what these may be. Conveniently the Code of Practice (CoP) produced by the
Institute of Petroleum was created around the same time so the Minister used this. This caused a lot of
issues and clearly highlights the UK s lack of experience and expertise . The CoP was produced purely
as guidance, by a private sector body, and was never intended to be thrust into the limelight and
become law in effect.
Following the Sea Gem disaster in 1965, the inquiry set up subsequent to this, realised these problems
and discovered that it occurred as a result of the CoP being strictly adhered to, even where it clearly
did not fit, as it was not a clear or precise document. The inquiry instead recommended a code of
[statutory] authority supported by credible sanctions. The Inquiry concluded that there needed to be
more government involvement and asked for specific guidelines . This marked the end of self
regulation being an acceptable model.
In 1967 the government woke up and realised how complacent they had been and so the

Catechol Oxidase Essay
The marketing and storage of perishable foodstuffs can be delayed by using treating them with
methods that will slow or halt enzymatic activity. We experimented as to whether or not varied
concentrations of sodium chloride, NaCl had any effect on the activity of catechol oxidase, an enzyme
found in potatoes. A serial salt water dilution was made, a potato homogenate made, and buffered
catechol oxidase added. The solutions were placed in a spectrophotometer and the light absorbance for
each recorded. The higher concentrations of salt, around 20% solution, reduced enzyme activity. We
concluded that general increases in the amount of salt molecules in the solution negatively affected the
enzymatic activity of the catechol oxidase and markedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be inferred that as sodium chloride, a strong electrolyte, dissolves completely in aqueous
solutions, pervading the solution with free sodium and chlorine ions, interferes with the binding of
catechol oxidase to the substrate, buffered catechol oxidase. As enzymes are proteins, charged R
groups interact with the oppositely charged ions of salt, altering the enzyme s shape and rendering it
unable to bind. According to (__), the chlorine anion is responsible for the change in enzyme activity.
The ions act as noncompetitive inhibitors, binding to sites other than the active site. Because enzyme
shape is so specific to its function, even slight interactions are likely to considerably lower its activity.
Solutions more concentrated than 20% significantly drop enzyme activity and bring it almost to a halt
(Ming Hui Fan et al.,2005). On the other end, our data reflects that too low of a salt concentration may
also affect the viability of the enzyme. A 2.5% salt solution exhibited a decrease in activity (Fig. 1)
which leads one to believe that the natural salt content of potatoes likely lies around 5%, the optimal
concentration

Exile In Brave New World
Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are
alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows
how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel
safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and
family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave
New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians,
in this novel called savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the
World State society. John s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Malpais people isolate John because he is white and this sets him apart from the Savages. John is
excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also
because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx
that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is
exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and
see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a
life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel.
John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the
novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being
hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is
shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just
how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and
beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled
with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the

Jesus And Socrates Similarities
Resentment and false allegation had made history record many devastating trials and death
surrounding controversial issues. Two such trials are the 399 BC trial of Socrates and the trial of Jesus.
Even though one person is noted primarily for philosophical inquiry in contrast to spiritual growth,
their teachings and trials both entail similarities. One such similarity, besides the debate of their death,
is the converging points on religion. Moreover, Socrates was tried and condemned in Athens for
believing in the gods and corrupting the Athenian youth. The case was presented by Plato as a
mockery of justice, with Socrates as a martyr to truth against superstition, prejudice and ignorance.
Similarly the trial of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is viewed by many as the most notable in history and its
effect on human history has been incalculable. However, Socrates and Jesus are compelling figures
and have memorable personalities. Uniquely, these powerful and influential men lived centuries ago
and have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another point of similarity between Socrates and Jesus is the flexibility surrounding their arguments.
They used simplistic ideas such as analogies, metaphors, and parables to convey their teachings to
their followers and their logic. An example can be seen in the discussion between Socrates and
Euthyphro regarding piety through the story of Zeus and Cronus or comparing the concept of
knowledge to tending for horses and cattle. Jesus also did this by using quotes such as I am the vine,
you are the branches . He essentially established himself as the root and called his followers branches
so that they could spread his word and establish Christianity throughout the

Freedom In Lord Of The Flies
Freedom vs Safety In the novels Night and Lord of the Flies, there are many parallels surrounding the
theme of freedom. Night portrays the historical events of World War II. The control factor in this story
is prominent. Hitler convinces his followers to help him imprison everyone that believes should not be
a part of his Aryan race. In Lord of the Flies the presence of captivity is still there, but less extreme. A
group of young boys are stranded on an island. In that sense, they are very much confined. However,
they retain the ability to think for themselves and choose their own actions. While there is a clear
difference between the two novels and they take place in opposing settings, they both explore the
same theme of freedom. They show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boys in Lord of the Flies are given total freedom, but are only able to maintain order for a short
period of time before everything goes south. In Lord of the Flies the pain is in the struggle between
the boys who revert, through fear, to a primitive state and turn into savage hunters, and those who are
trying vainly to preserve foresight and order, (Pritchett). The boys are thrust into an environment
where they no longer have the pressures of society compelling them to be civilized. In the initial
encounter with the pig, Jack is unable to overcome his trained aversion to violence to even strike a
blow at the animal. Soon, however he and his choirboys turned hunters make their first kill. They
rationalize that they must kill the animals for meat. The next step back from civilization occurs and the
meat pretext is dropped; the real objective is to work their will on others, (Slayton). That is just one
example of the horrors that can occur when freedom is given to those who are not ready to use it
responsibly. It is clear that freedom can be good or bad, that being said, the opposite must also be true;
there are some cases where a controlled lifestyle can be beneficial to those living

Plan of Investigation
While watching National Hockey League (NHL) games, I often heard the play by play announcer
mention at the start of the third and final period how it would be tough for a team to come back from a
one goal deficit. This led me to wonder just how difficult it was mathematically, and how much
previous periods affected the final one. In this project, I will investigate whether the scores at the end
of the first period affect the final score of NHL games.
I will gather the scores of 200 hockey games between 2005 2008 from the nhl.com website. I chose
these years because the type of hockey before and after the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is
different in terms of goals scored per game, with more goals scored per ... Show more content on

The trendline, known as the line of best fit or the least squares regression line, shows the linear
equation which best explains the sums up the data s trend. The formula on the right is the formula of
the line of best fit.
As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger
range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter
plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that
teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer
points than teams who win.
If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning
team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team
A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still
larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well.
Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third
period with five or six goals. However, when Team B scores one goal in the first period, the most
goals they ended up with is only four. This pattern is repeated when the teams score two goals in the
first period. With Team A, there are instance(s) when they end up with seven; with

The Ronald Reagan Doctrine
Ronald Reagan Doctrine

Course: POL 300 / International Problems

05 February 2016
The purpose of the Reagan Doctrine was to sponsor anticommunist guerrillas who are trying to
overthrow pro Soviet regimes (Roskin, 2010). It was implemented in the mid 1980 s by President
Reagan within his 1985 State of the Union Address and lasted less than a decade around the end of the
Cold War in 1991. In this assignment, I will discuss the doctrine that President Reagan followed for
his doctrine and what situation that caused the need for the doctrine. What were the effects of this
diplomatic effort for the United States and countries it might have effected.

Similar to other countries President Reagan was helping fight the Soviets by providing the guerrillas
with an extensive amount of military assistance in their fight against the invading Soviets. In part due
to the financial, weapons and military training support from America the Afghan rebels were able to
eventually defeat the Soviet Union s military. Some critics are criticizing President Reagans doctrine
and claim that in no way did it help the situation in Afghanistan, many of them claim that it was an
epic failure. Others believe the doctrine was instrumental in helping bring an end to communism. One
specific advantage that has been credited to the doctrine was the lack of direct involvement of
American troops, which allowed the United States to confront Soviet allies without sustaining
casualties (Reagan Doctrine, 2014). In addition it has been argued that it was President Reagan s
pursuit of the Strategic Defense Initiative that bankrupted the Kremlin leadership, prompting a
liberalization of the Soviet political economy that brought down the entire

  • 2. The New York City s Puerto Rican Community On 7 June 1969, hundreds of Puerto Ricans gathered in Spanish Harlem, New York City to protest the arrest of Juan Fi Ortiz for a series of falsified crimes.[2] As a crowd gathered outside the People s Church in El Barrio, Felipe Luciano addressed those assembled asserting that, We will not allow the brutalization of our community to go on without a response. For every Puerto Rican that is brutalized, there will be retaliation. [3]Luciano s statements were not ignored, and as the crowd filtered into the streets their shouts of Despierta, Boricua. Defiende lo tuyo filled the air. The events of 7 June 1969 were but one of many moments in the history of New York City s Puerto Rican community that gave rise to and lent support for the Young Lords Party.[4] Indeed over the course of the next five years this ethnic group of radical intellectuals would help bring attention to the plight of the Puerto Rican community in New York City. This essay explores the history of the late twentieth century Puerto Rican migrants in New York City through an examination of the Young Lords Party (1969 to 1974). In doing so, it examines several significant topics, including the growth of the Puerto Rican population in New York City; the unique challenges this ethnic group faced, and the origins, growth and decline of the Young Lords Party. Twentieth Century Migration of Puerto Ricans To New York City For us to clearly understand the Young Lords, it must be understood how the Puerto Rican ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between The Hearst Castle And The Topakapi... Title That I Haven t Figured Out Yet The drastic difference in time periods between the Hearst Castle and the Topakapi Palace leads to the differentiation in materiality and function, but the similarities of both the structures come together with the grandiosity of the project and the lasting effect of the architecture. While the Hearst Castle was initially built just to accommodate the Hearst family, the Topakapi palace was built for Mehmed II and his dynasty. After a long line of collaboration with the Hearst family, Julia Morgan was assigned to design a space for William Randolph Hearst in San Simeon because he was tired of going up and camping and wanted something that would be more comfortable .[1] Morgan began construction in 1919, and started with guest houses, since Hearst put emphasis on the idea of having his family and friends over. Additionally, Morgan partially based her design on the tower of the church at Ronda in Southern Spain, a favorite site of Hearst. The California location gave Morgan and Hearst the excuse to resemble and mimic the renaissance style of Southern Spain. Controversy, the Topakapi Palace was originally built in 1465 by the Sultan Mehmed II and his reign. The Topakapi Palace was a center for administration, education and most importantly, to accommodate the Sultan. Aspects of religion and spirituality were highly active through the site and the rich diversity of Islamic architecture was prevalent throughout the space. Despite the ... • 4. Men’s Angst with Society´s Perception of Masculinity ...men are unhappy and don t really know why. Masculinity in the modern age is changing, so much so that many men feel inadequate. A large amount of men are unable to understand what type of masculinity they fit into and what they want to fit into. In Gurmeet S. Kanwal s article from Psychology Today: The masculinity crisis, male malaise, and the challenge of becoming a good man he says that, the perception and image of heterosexual men in this country has never been as negative, de idealized, and potentially harmful as it is now. And lots of men are feeling it. Men are now feeling that they do not fit into or do not want to fit into popular masculinity. This is similar to the way American men were feeling about masculinity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is similar to how men feel now; they believe they can do more than society accepts them to do. An example would be where a man would want to be the stay at home dad and take care of the children, where it may seem outlandish now, will most likely become easily accepted in the future. History points toward progressive changes in equality for both genders after rough receptions of new ideas of how they can act. These ties into my thesis that new masculinities will be established which in time will become accepted by society just as it has happened in the past. The wanting for a new type of masculinity to fit into by males is only fueled by the male malaise that has been spreading recently, in Kanwal s article there are many examples of this. The Atlantic came out with an issue where the cover had an article titled The End of Men by Hanna Rosin. She discusses how men have been the dominant sex since the beginning of humanity, but that it is now changing to women who will start gaining dominance, and how that only two of the fifteen growing jobs in the future, men have a larger representation of. This sends a blow to the idea that men should be the breadwinners, and makes men feel inept to be financially supportive. It only gets worse with articles such as Are Fathers Necessary? by Pamela Paul, in which she states that there is nothing essential about men s contribution to their children. Media bashfulness on male masculinity is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Art Critique The first art work of Egypt I saw on the Google Cultural Institute website was the Relief sculpture of Metjetji and his son Sabu pyah . This sculpture was found in the Tomb of Metjetji, Saqqara, Egypt. The sculpture can be divided into two parts: hieroglyphs on the right, and the graph on the left which drew a man who was holding staff in each hand. He is looking right, shows us his profile of his face, knees and legs, while his eyes and chest are frontal. His kilt and hair are precise with vertical and horizon lines. His necklace and bears are also detail. He has long hair and an elegant bracelet is on his left hand. The sculpture tries to picture this man s body line. There is also a small man standing beside the big man s feet. His body is also brown color, but he does not wear a kilt. They seem like watching the view of the city together on the summit. I also saw the Statue (ANKH) on the website. It is a man sitting on a chair. His back is straight, right hand is cross in fist and puts it on his thigh while his left arm cross his body. His pose shows a great power and confidence, so I guess he is a noble. His lip is thick but nose is small. I can identify his fingers and nails clearly. There are also some hieroglyphs on his shoulder which claim the name of the man. Although this statue is not as precise as those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Effects Of Population Control And Population Control Pain comes on a spectrum. Pain can be a piercing pain, like a needle piercing the skin. Pain can be throbbing waves of delirium that come from getting hit in the head. Pain can be an internal stimulus that inhibits thoughts of bliss. Hunger is the pain or uneasy sensation caused by the want of food, and affects a large amount of people worldwide. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates about 795 million people of the 7.3 billion people in the world suffer from chronic malnourishment in a 2014 2016 study (worldhunger.org, 2016). The ability for humans to grow exponentially on a limited amount of land is dangerous, for eventually the amount of resources available will not be succinct enough to allow everyone to live. This leads to the question on whether population control should be enacted to prevent such an event. But with the world s population projected to reach 10.1 billion people by the year 2100, it is evident that some change must occur. (Becker, 2011). Actions have been taken by the biochemical community to better understand human nutritional needs and revolutionized how crops are grown. In order to sustain a large population, measures must be taken to improve crop efficiency with the limited amount of land we have. The recent development of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have allowed for unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and viral genes that do not normally occur in nature(livingnongmo.org). An Unauthorized Purchase Of A Computer Game The reporting student, the roommate, and the accused have resided together in the same residence live room since the commencement of the fall 2015 semester. Admittedly, tensions between the three male first year freshman have long since existed stemming from general personality clashes. Those clashes it is believed furnish the basis of the initial incident. As some point in the fall semester, perhaps during the month of October, the roommate witnessed the accused accessed the reporting student s personal computer without permission and with the reporting person s knowledge. On this occasion the accused was observed making an unauthorized purchase of a computer game on the reporting person s computer. At some point thereafter, the roommate recalls, the reporting person informed both the accused and the roommate that he did not account for specific purchase that had appeared against his account. On another occasion, the accused invited two other students into the room the three shares to show them what he had discovered on the reporting student s computer. Upon entering into the room, the accused was seen accessing the reporting student s personal computer, making using of passwords and code accesses that had not previously been shared with the accused by the reporting student. Once accused had imputed the various passwords and or access codes, he directed the two students to view the screen of the reporting student s laptop computer. The accused showed the two students ... We do not have the first recordation of a stumble or fall as with most of our biblical heroes. As we observe the integrity found in the life of Daniel, we catch him in Chapter 6 headed to the lion s den. The famous Bible story of Daniel and the lions den is more than a simple account of God s deliverance. It also shows that no one is a match for the true God. Daniel had been in captivity approximately 66 years serving faithfully and with distinction in the reign of the Babylonian kings Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar. When the Medo Persian Empire conquered Babylon, Daniel begins serving King Darius. With Daniel s background and wisdom, he is quickly promoted by the new king to an elevated position of envy. Daniel was given the gift of prophecy even though he would not claim the title of prophet. In addition to being blessed with the ability to interpret dreams, he could also see what God had in store for the Jewish nation. As the Lord revealed to Daniel his plan for his chosen people, he no doubt saw glimpses of the holocaust and the multiple attempts to destroy Israel. (2012), proposed a role for blood myeloid dendritic cells in sheltering and circulating pathogens from the subgingival microbial biofilm in the periodontal pocket which are then transported to atheromatous plaques lining coronary and other arteries. This and other pathways may play a role in providing key signals for myeloid dendritic cell differentiation and atherogenic changes (39). This hypothesis links inflammatory periodontal disease to CVD, such as atherosclerosis, without necessarily invoking bacteria or their products interacting with the cardiovascular system (38). In this regard Craig et al. (2003) found that the patients with severe rapidly progressing periodontitis showed a 100% higher hs CRP level in the circulation (plus other biomarkers) than patients with mild periodontitis (37). Regarding mechanisms, CRP can form a complex with oxidized low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol which, when phagocytosed by macrophages infiltrating atheroscleromatous plaques, can differentiate into foam cells (52). The production of MMPs, for instance MMP 8 (collagenase 2) and MMP 9 (gelatinase B), by these modified inflammatory cells, can destroy the thin collagen cap that covers cholesterol rich plaques lining the coronary arteries leading to plaque rupture, thrombosis, and acute myocardial infarction (53 55). 3.2. • 15. An Inventory Management System For A Mass Production... An inventory management system, inventory control and inventory accuracy are paramount to a mass production manufacturing facility, especially when multiple part types and multiple product types are being produced. Raw component inventory can account for millions of dollars of an organizations cash, which is not contributing to profitability until converted to a product and sold. Therefore, it is essential for an organization to have an inventory management system and an inventory control process to account for the value associated with each part and ultimately to return value to the operation. Inventory inaccuracy can negatively impact the performance of the production control system (Chan Wang, 2014). It is difficult to account for raw materials at every stage of the manufacturing process with complete accuracy, thus an error between the actual inventory level and the supply chain management systems record of inventories cannot be completely avoided. However, when an inaccuracy exists in the raw materials inventory it creates a negative effect on the material requirement planning (MRP) systems. The inaccuracy of the material requirement planning systems has a negative impact on the performance of production planning, scheduling and control, which contributes to a less than optimal production output and potentially to disappointing customers with lack of manufactured goods. In a traditional inventory management system, it is assumed that the raw material stock ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oscar Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. There are numerous other instances where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A satire is typically a writing style that focuses on criticizing an individual, social class, or a society by using humor or a hyperbole. Satires are used to ridicule shortcomings and do it in a funny or comical manner. Lady Bracknell is an excellent example of satirical humor. When she is contemplating whether not she approves of Earnest she points out all of his flaws and then gives a funny, unexpected response. She criticizes him for living on the wrong side of the street that has houses that are not quite as nice as the other sides. Algernon is also a great example of a satire. • 19. Nuclear Power Supplies A Significant Part Of Current... MOX Title Background: Nuclear power supplies a significant portion of current energy demands. One of the newer advances in nuclear fuel is Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel. MOX is a mixture of UO2 and PuO2. Both of these starting materials can be recovered from spent traditional nuclear fuel [1]. As such, MOX provides a method for reducing waste generated during the operation of a nuclear reactor. MOX fuel is currently in use in Europe, Russia and Japan [2]. The United States is in the process of developing next generation nuclear reactors which can employ MOX. Due to the importance of MOX fuel, important research is currently being to both understand the principles governing MOX, and how to enhance its performance. MOX fuel is comprised of UO2 and PuO2. The UO2 is acquired either from naturally occurring uranium oxide, or recovered from the spent fuel of a traditional nuclear reactor. Plutonium metal is produced by the U 238 during operation of the nuclear reactor [1]. The Pu must then be converted to PuO2. The first step in producing PuO2 is to dissolve the recovered Pu in HNO3 HF to get Pu(NO3)4. Once the Pu(NO3)4 is generated, a few different methods can be used to acquire PuO2. The most commercially used method involves the precipitation of plutonium oxalate. The Pu(NO3)4 is conditioned with hydrogen peroxide to produce Pu(lV). Next, an excess of oxalic acid is added to reduce the solubility. The oxalate is then left to decompose to oxide which can then be filtered and dried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This shows that even though Sam had lost control of the vital power plant that they had been fighting for, he did not respond with helplessness. He held his ground by not giving into the fear that Caine had wished to be spelled upon him and his army of children. The children were not able to feel this fear because they felt if Sam stayed strong the rest would follow. Not only is Sam courageous, he is also a leader. First, when electing a person to be in charge of Perdido Beach kids generally looked to Sam to be the mayor. This is because before the FAYZ, Sam was known as School Bus Sam since he saved peoples lives when a school bus that he was on crashed. • 25. The Effect Of Bovine Growth Hormone Injections On Cows According to Purdue University the United States is responsible for the production of over 20 billion gallons of milk per year. This milk is either pasteurized and sold or further manufactured into other forms of dairy such as cream cheese or ice cream. Many Americans have an unrealistic dream of where their milk is produced; a grassy farm where the cows are able to roam freely and be milked by hand. However, this is not the reality in America. Today, most dairy farms use machinery to milk their cows and often leave them in cramped spaces. In order to increase the amount of milk a cow produces, farmers have started to treat their cows with bovine growth hormone. Because of this practice many arguments have come up to stop the use of Bovine Growth Hormone injections in cows. This is due to the alleged side effects this milk is said to produce; for example cancer or antibiotic insensitivity. This leaves anyone who drinks milk is potentially susceptible to these effects. The FDA gives details of the biology of Bovine Growth Hormone. Bovine Growth Hormone is naturally found in all animals, including humans, and enhances growth, development and health maintenance. It was discovered that by injecting cows with the hormone, found in the pituitary gland, then their milk production would increase. In the 1980 s it became possible to mass produce the hormone. • 28. Media Credibility In Social Media Surveys indicate that in 2016, most Americans, 62%, used social media to access news (Pew Research Center, 2016). Nearly 80% of American journalists use social media (Lee, 2015). Social media has become a source for both creating and obtaining news (Yamamoto, Nah, Chung, 2017). As technology changes how people receive news, it also changes how they evaluate credibility (Lee, 2015). Research into media credibility has evolved over the years, a simplified definition of media credibility might be believability, accuracy, and trustworthiness (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). Media credibility focuses on the believability of the news channel. Source credibility focuses on the senders of the messages (Bucy, 2003). Several theorists have posited in the evaluation the perception of credibility. The current study aims to concentrate on methods social media users may develop to evaluate the credibility of the news they access online as well as how familiarity affects the user s perceptions of credibility. Research indicates that social media users evaluate credibility based on familiarity with the brand (Calvo Porral. Martínez Fernández, Juanatey Boga, 2014). In other words, if a social media user is familiar with The New York Times, they are more likely to trust the news posted on social media if it comes from the New York Times. • 29. Environmental Ethics And Pollution Pollution is a growing concern for some people, but for others it is of no importance. The way humans treat the environment is such a controversial topic that people began to examine the topic from a moral standpoint, so much so that three approaches were developed. The Anthropocentric Approach, the Sentientist Approach, and the Biocentric Approach are the main theories people get examine when debating about environmental ethics. People who have an anthropocentric view believe that nature is there to satisfy human interests, harming the environment is only bad if it also harms humans. For example, cutting down a tree to build a house would be a positive thing because it is valuable to humans. However, if cutting down the tree did not bring about a positive outcome the action would be negative. William Baxter is one of the most vocal ethicist that strongly believe in the anthropocentric approach. As stated before, William Baxter focuses on human interests. He believes that the environment is just a means, a stepping stone to satisfy humans wants and needs. In addition, Baxter believes living in a clean environment is not as achievable as others believe it to be because it is such a broad goal. Baxter argues that clear goals are needed to address moral questions about the environment because the where, when, why, and how are never fully covered when discussing the topic. There is never a clear and concise goal when deliberating environmental issues. For example, if someone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much less steel was now needed for rails, but structural steel became increasingly important as did rods, wire, tubes and pipes; steel was needed for tinplate and also very significant amounts were demanded by the transport industries. Essay on Toni Morrison s Beloved Symbolism in Beloved In the novel Beloved, the author, Toni Morrison, attempts to promote a variety of different themes and ideas by symbolizing them in minor events and situations. This symbolism is evident throughout the entire novel and is very crucial to the understanding and analyzing of the text. A good example of this is the ice skating scene. Morrison uses this scene to represent the slow, but consistent, deterioration of the family living in 124 and to foreshadow the ultimate demise of the family unit. • 41. Summary Of Concentration Camp Survivor, By Viktor E. Frankl Viktor E. Frankl, a psychiatrist and holocaust survivor, was born into a Jewish family in Vienna, Austria on March 26, 1905. Throughout his early life Frankl portrayed an immense interest into psychology and the inner workings of the human thought process. Frankl completed his schooling in psychology at the University of Vienna in 1925. He practiced psychiatry until 1942, when he and his family were deported to the Nazi ghetto of Theresienstadt where he was kept until he and his wife were transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp. It is here that Frankl s written story begins. Frankl, however, does not write the story of the typical concentration camp survivor. Frankl would agree with Thomas Hardy when he says, A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and woman. Frankl does not solely speak about the dismal existence that was created in the concentration camps that he was housed within. He also speaks of the psychological factors that were at play during his time in the concentration camps, and what he believed was going on inside the minds of the prisoners. In this is the reason Frankl s story is truly unique. Frankl s story is not simply unique it is, as stated by Hardy, exceptional . Frankl in order to convey his analysis of the psyche of the prisoners utilized vivid visual imagery, passionate appeals to pathos, and elegant and dramatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. What Role Does Risk Management Play Within The Homeland... What role does risk management play within the homeland security enterprise? To answer that question we first have to examine what risk management is. Risk management is an anaclitic approach to figuring out the likelihood that an event will impact a specific assets, person, or function and then implementing steps to mitigate the impact or consequence of the event. (Decker, 2001) The Standard risk management formula that the Department of Homeland Security uses is R=T*V*C or Risk = Threat * Vulnerability * Consequence. To understand this formula and how it is used we first have to beak down each part. Risk is defined by Homeland Security as potential for an unwanted outcome resulting from an incident, event, or occurrence, as determined by its likelihood and the associated consequences. They define threat as natural or man made occurrence, individual, entity, or action that has or indicates the potential to harm life, information, operations, the environment, and/or property. Vulnerability is defined as qualitative or quantitative expression of the level to which an entity, asset, system, network, or geographic area is susceptible to harm when it experiences a hazard. And lastly they define consequence simply as effect of an event, incident, or occurrence. (Homeland Security, 2010) Before The Department of Homeland Security can implement this formula, they first have to go through a series of assessments. These are threat assessments, vulnerability assessments, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Advantage And Disadvantage Of Biodiesle ABSTRACT As renewable, sustainable and alternative fuel compression ignition engines, biodiesel instead of diesel has been increasingly fuelled to study its effects on engines performance and emissions in the recent years. But these study has been rarely review to favour the understanding and popularization for biodiesel so far. From the previous study from other researcher, the effect of biodiesel on engine performances and emission on the formation of soot in the different biodiesel blend is being cited for the revision. But, on chapter 4 of this report there will the discussion on data and result for this study. The use of biodiesel lead to the substantial reduction in particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon dioxide (CO) emission accompanying with the imperceptible power loss, the increase in fuel consumption and the increase in nitrogen ... Today, fossil fuels take up 80% of the primary energy consumed in the world, which 32% is consumed by the transport sector. Biodiesel, as an alternative fuel of diesel, is describe as fatty acid methyl or ethyl esters from vegetable oils or animals fats. It is renewable, biodegradable and oxygenated. Although many researches pointed out that it might help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote sustainable rural development and improve income distribution, there still exist some resistances for using it. The major cause is the lack of knowledge about the influence of biodiesel or diesel engines. Other than that, the using of biodiesel doesn t giving the same amount of energy compared to original diesel because biodiesel have more additives as compared to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neuron is the main cellular component of the nervous system, a specialized type of cell that integrates electrochemical activity of the other neurons that are connected to it and that propagates that integrated activity to other neurons. They are the basic information processing structures in the CNS. There are as many as 10,000 specific types of neurons in the human brain, A. Types of Neurons a. Nerve conduction studies are now routine, and can be done in virtually any hospital equipped with the appropriate machine and staffed with a qualified examiner. The nerve conduction study utilizes a computer, computer monitor, amplifier, loudspeaker, electrical stimulator, and filters. These filters are mathematical filters that can distinguish random, background electrical signals from the signal produced by an activated nerve. When the study is done, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the muscles being tested. Generally, these muscles are located in the arms or legs. Some of the electrodes are designed to record the electrical signal that passes by them. Other electrodes (reference electrodes) are designed to monitor the quality of the signals to make sure that the test is operating properly. If monitoring of the test is not done, then the results obtained are meaningless. After the electrodes are in place, a small electrical current can be applied to the skin. The electrical stimulation is usually done at several points along the nerve, not just at a single point. This is done because conduction of an impulse through a nerve is not uniform. Some regions of a nerve conduct more slowly than other regions. By positioning the stimulating electrodes at several sites, a more accurate overall measurement of conduction velocity is obtained. The electrical current activates nerves in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Uk Pre Goal Setting Regime UK Pre Goal Setting Regime Regulating health and safety offshore has been a challenge due to its intricate and hostile environment. In the 1960 s the UK first adopted a self regulatory approach by the industry that was: not subject to any detailed regulatory stipulations or inspections . The Government made it a basic obligation in the licence that licensees must comply with such instruction from the Minister . The minister however had not thought about what these may be. Conveniently the Code of Practice (CoP) produced by the Institute of Petroleum was created around the same time so the Minister used this. This caused a lot of issues and clearly highlights the UK s lack of experience and expertise . The CoP was produced purely as guidance, by a private sector body, and was never intended to be thrust into the limelight and become law in effect. Following the Sea Gem disaster in 1965, the inquiry set up subsequent to this, realised these problems and discovered that it occurred as a result of the CoP being strictly adhered to, even where it clearly did not fit, as it was not a clear or precise document. The inquiry instead recommended a code of [statutory] authority supported by credible sanctions. The Inquiry concluded that there needed to be more government involvement and asked for specific guidelines . This marked the end of self regulation being an acceptable model. In 1967 the government woke up and realised how complacent they had been and so the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Catechol Oxidase Essay The marketing and storage of perishable foodstuffs can be delayed by using treating them with methods that will slow or halt enzymatic activity. We experimented as to whether or not varied concentrations of sodium chloride, NaCl had any effect on the activity of catechol oxidase, an enzyme found in potatoes. A serial salt water dilution was made, a potato homogenate made, and buffered catechol oxidase added. The solutions were placed in a spectrophotometer and the light absorbance for each recorded. The higher concentrations of salt, around 20% solution, reduced enzyme activity. We concluded that general increases in the amount of salt molecules in the solution negatively affected the enzymatic activity of the catechol oxidase and markedly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be inferred that as sodium chloride, a strong electrolyte, dissolves completely in aqueous solutions, pervading the solution with free sodium and chlorine ions, interferes with the binding of catechol oxidase to the substrate, buffered catechol oxidase. As enzymes are proteins, charged R groups interact with the oppositely charged ions of salt, altering the enzyme s shape and rendering it unable to bind. According to (__), the chlorine anion is responsible for the change in enzyme activity. The ions act as noncompetitive inhibitors, binding to sites other than the active site. Because enzyme shape is so specific to its function, even slight interactions are likely to considerably lower its activity. Solutions more concentrated than 20% significantly drop enzyme activity and bring it almost to a halt (Ming Hui Fan et al.,2005). On the other end, our data reflects that too low of a salt concentration may also affect the viability of the enzyme. A 2.5% salt solution exhibited a decrease in activity (Fig. 1) which leads one to believe that the natural salt content of potatoes likely lies around 5%, the optimal concentration ... • 48. Exile In Brave New World Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians, in this novel called savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the World State society. John is excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel. John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the ... • 49. Jesus And Socrates Similarities Resentment and false allegation had made history record many devastating trials and death surrounding controversial issues. Two such trials are the 399 BC trial of Socrates and the trial of Jesus. Even though one person is noted primarily for philosophical inquiry in contrast to spiritual growth, their teachings and trials both entail similarities. One such similarity, besides the debate of their death, is the converging points on religion. Moreover, Socrates was tried and condemned in Athens for believing in the gods and corrupting the Athenian youth. The case was presented by Plato as a mockery of justice, with Socrates as a martyr to truth against superstition, prejudice and ignorance. Similarly the trial of Jesus Christ of Nazareth is viewed by many as the most notable in history and its effect on human history has been incalculable. However, Socrates and Jesus are compelling figures and have memorable personalities. Uniquely, these powerful and influential men lived centuries ago and have ... Night portrays the historical events of World War II. The control factor in this story is prominent. Hitler convinces his followers to help him imprison everyone that believes should not be a part of his Aryan race. In Lord of the Flies the presence of captivity is still there, but less extreme. A group of young boys are stranded on an island. In that sense, they are very much confined. However, they retain the ability to think for themselves and choose their own actions. While there is a clear difference between the two novels and they take place in opposing settings, they both explore the same theme of freedom. They show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boys in Lord of the Flies are given total freedom, but are only able to maintain order for a short period of time before everything goes south. In Lord of the Flies the pain is in the struggle between the boys who revert, through fear, to a primitive state and turn into savage hunters, and those who are trying vainly to preserve foresight and order, (Pritchett). The boys are thrust into an environment where they no longer have the pressures of society compelling them to be civilized. In the initial encounter with the pig, Jack is unable to overcome his trained aversion to violence to even strike a blow at the animal. Soon, however he and his choirboys turned hunters make their first kill. They rationalize that they must kill the animals for meat. The next step back from civilization occurs and the meat pretext is dropped; the real objective is to work their will on others, (Slayton). That is just one example of the horrors that can occur when freedom is given to those who are not ready to use it responsibly. It is clear that freedom can be good or bad, that being said, the opposite must also be true; there are some cases where a controlled lifestyle can be beneficial to those living ... Sample of Math Ia Essay Plan of Investigation While watching National Hockey League (NHL) games, I often heard the play by play announcer mention at the start of the third and final period how it would be tough for a team to come back from a one goal deficit. This led me to wonder just how difficult it was mathematically, and how much previous periods affected the final one. In this project, I will investigate whether the scores at the end of the first period affect the final score of NHL games. I will gather the scores of 200 hockey games between 2005 2008 from the nhl.com website. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trendline, known as the line of best fit or the least squares regression line, shows the linear equation which best explains the sums up the data s trend. The formula on the right is the formula of the line of best fit. As can be observed from these plots, teams who win at the end of the first period have a much larger range of data, with 26 separate points versus 14 separate points on Team B s graph. Since the scatter plot does not use a thicker dot when numerous teams share one place on the plot, this suggests that teams who lose at the end of the first period tend to have similar scores, as they have twelve fewer points than teams who win. If a team loses in the first period, this means that its X range must be smaller than that of the winning team. Since 9/26, or almost 35%, of Team A s points are on 3 or 4 on the X axis, it is logical for Team A to have a larger range. However, even disregarding 3 and 4 on the X axis, Team A s range is still larger than that of Team B s. There is a greater spread of data on the Y axis of Team A, as well. Note that when Team A scores one goal in the first period, there are instances of them ending the third period with five or six goals. However, when Team B scores one goal in the first period, the most goals they ended up with is only four. This pattern is repeated when the teams score two goals in the first period. With Team A, there are instance(s) when they end up with seven; with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some critics are criticizing President Reagans doctrine and claim that in no way did it help the situation in Afghanistan, many of them claim that it was an epic failure. Others believe the doctrine was instrumental in helping bring an end to communism. One specific advantage that has been credited to the doctrine was the lack of direct involvement of American troops, which allowed the United States to confront Soviet allies without sustaining casualties (Reagan Doctrine, 2014). In addition it has been argued that it was President Reagan s pursuit of the Strategic Defense Initiative that bankrupted the Kremlin leadership, prompting a liberalization of the Soviet political economy that brought down the entire ...
