- God seeking to live among men. Adam sinned and rejected. Enoch was excited and God said one day, why don’t you come and live with me. He then chooses Abraham and through Him the nation of Israel. In Ex 25, God says He wants to dwell among them (again!!!). They reject Him too with their idolatrous ways. We hear icahabod for the final time in Jeremiah, the glory finally departed. This grace of God is simply astounding …There have been so many rejections and yet… Two thousand years ago, again God came down to dwell among men. Jn 1:6 – he came to this world and the world knew Him not, He came to His own, His own received Him not. Another rejection. Isaiah calls Him the despised, the one who was not esteemed. He dies on the cross and redeems for Himself a group of people, and now He comes to dwell in our hearts and in OUR midst. This is where I would stop and simply praise God, for not giving up on us and so I say to myself, this great God is now resident in my life, what is it I need to do, to show my appreciation. When we call our friends for a meal, we want to find their likes, dislikes- are they vegetarian, do they like American, Indian or Chinese. Do they have their food spicy hot or are they allergic to nuts. What about the dessert, are they health conscious and the list goes on. Here is the Almighty and what do we do? We want to find what makes Him happy, we turn to places where He has previously dwelled and ask what lessons can we learn, and this brings us to the Tabernacle. Pattern of actions, while He teaches that even the Tabernacle is about His Son and all the while the nation of Israel never connected the dots. We can learn something and hopefully, today we will do just that.
- Table: Genesis is the account of man’s ruin and fall. While Exodus is about the redemption of the fallen man and reestablishment of the severed lines of communication…provides the table for His priests in the sanctuary. Psalms 23:5 .. Thou has prepared a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”. - Gold – Hebrew word means shimmer or from its shining. Typical of deity. 1 Tim 3:16- 2 components yet only 1 Table Jesus the true mediator between God and man. In order to mediate between two parties, He must be able to represent both.

- Shewbread indicates the following meaning
- The first item in the Holy Place is the shewbread which represents our will. The shewbread was ground (totally yielded); molded (conformed to God -- delight to do His will); baked (tried by fire); placed in two rows of six loaves (ordered according to God's direction -- discipline); covered by frankincense (worship); perpetually before God's face; surrounded by a double protective crown (watch and pray -- Matthew 26:41); regularly dedicated afresh to God. We must be willing to keep our will open and constantly before the face of God.
- The next item in the Holy Place is the seven branched lamp stand which represents our intellect. The lamp stand was fashioned from beaten gold. Through the renewing of our minds, by studying the Word of God, we allow the Holy Spirit to fashion our intellect to be pleasing to God (2 Cor. 10:5; Romans 8:7; 1 Thes. 5:8). The illumination of the intellect depends upon the yielding of the will (James 3:13-18). Heb 9:2, 9 – the first furniture mentioned. Picture of the present age (Church age)

- Talks of the heart The final item found in the Holy Place is the golden altar of incense which represents our emotions. Only after we bring our will and our intellect in line with God's requirements can we come to the right use of our emotions. The altar was square (balanced); had a protective crown (self-control); fire (intensity, passion for holiness); incense (devotion made fragrant by fire); smoke (adoration expressed in praise and worship); horns sanctified by blood (acceptance of Jesus' atonement); highest piece of furniture (adoration lifts us up); point of transition to the Holy of Holies.
- Talks of what the incense is made of Ex 30: 34-35 “…sweet spices, stace, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight: and thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the Art of the Apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy.” We come having lost our identify in the Lord Jesus Christ. Incense needs to be: Sweet : SOS 5:16 Pure : Heb 7:26 Holy : 1 Jn 2:1 Perpetual: Heb 7:25 Perfume : Eph 5:2
