Kate Wittenberg discusses Portico's current work and future plans. Portico has signed 320 publisher participants representing over 2,000 societies. Efforts are being made to preserve links between publications and underlying data through projects like RMap. Portico also partners with national libraries like the BL and KB to leverage their infrastructure for legal deposit programs. Looking ahead, Portico aims to broaden preservation efforts to more content types and collaborate more with other organizations.

2. • Signed our 320th Publisher Participant in August 2015
• Publisher content represents more than 2,000 societies and
associations
• More than half are small publishers (fewer than ten
publications)
• Efforts to bring in these publishers were encouraged by
feedback from library community
• Progress achieved through proactive outreach as well as
tools such as an OJS plugin
• Ongoing challenges involve working with organizations
with few staff and unknown platforms

3. • Preservation of links between publications and their
underlying data
• RMap Project is a research initiative to address this
problem
• Working with Data Conservancy at Johns Hopkins and IEEE
• Goal of project is to connect publications and data and to
preserve those connections over time
• Building a prototype that will be available to the broader
community

4. • Since 2015, Portico has delivered e-journal content to the
BL as part of its legal deposit program, which the BL
processes and makes available in its reading rooms
• Portico has recently signed an agreement with the KB for a
similar partnership
• These partnerships will allow the national libraries to
leverage and benefit from Portico’s existing infrastructure
and expertise
• Challenges involve coordinating work of different
organizations
• Opportunities to improve processes as a result of aligning
systems and workflows

• Ability to preserve new forms of scholarly content
• Aligning work with other preservation organizations in
order to leverage collective infrastructure and expertise
