whereas the garment industry displays signs of gradual expansion as opposed to the floral industry
which exhibits a slow and gradual contraction. Little synergy, as compared to the potential, exists in
the current arrangement between the 3 sides of the operation. IT situation The company is served
by an IT infrastructure comprising of an amalgamation of off the shelf software and components
and locally developed applications and middleware. The hardware infrastructure is by and large
robust and capable of withstanding any current operational peaks. The infrastructure employs a high
level of redundancy and good recovery and password management systems, so there is little risk of
high business impact in the case of IT issues. No architecture document exists and minimal change
control is executed. Seven veteran employees remain in the IT department, each specializing in a
subsystem of the infrastructure. Informational silos exist, two additional employees were added to
expand the operation. A team was charged to fully evaluate and understand the inner workings of
the current infrastructure, particularly undocumented business logic implemented

Essay on Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
III.Character Description
1.John the Savage
Thomas and Linda s son, John, is a scholar and resident of the savage reservation in New Mexico.
Despite not being introduced until Chapter 7, John is seen as the centralizing character of the
novel. Unlike the rest of his community, he is educated. When Lenina and Bernard come across
John during their trip, they soon realize John s biological father is the Director, Thomas. Once
reaffirming this, Bernard and Lenina offer to bring John and Linda back to the World State. Hoping
to connect better to the people in the World State, John gladly accepts. It was, however, to John s
misfortune to find out that either way, there was no escaping his isolation. In one scene, where John
takes Lenina home, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which in turn increased his sense of being alien and alone. A chronic fear of being slighted made
him avoid his equals, made him stand, where his inferiors were concerned, self consciously on his
dignity. How bitterly he envied men like Henry Foster and Benito Hoover! (65). It isn t until
Bernard gives John residence in his house, that he starts attracting the attention of everyone. Soon
after, Bernard personality becomes overbearing and Mustapha Mond, the ruler of the World State,
exiles him for non conformity. Throughout the novel, Bernard struggles to fit in as a normal Alpha
despite his stature. Bernard s strengths are his curiosity and intelligence, but his downfalls are his
instable mind and short temper.
3.Lenina
A young, beautiful and sexually liberated Beta, Lenina is a popular and promiscuous vaccination
worker at the Hatchery and Conditioning Centre. Unlike many of the underlining characters of
Brave New World, Lenina doesn t feel socially out of place. She, like the rest of society, copes with
unwanted emotions by taking Soma, participates in parties, and polygamy. One example of this in
the novel, occurs while Lenina converses with her friend, Fanny; And to tell the truth, said Lenina, I

Insurance Policies And The Insurance Policy

insurance policy, the location, the scope of the policy, and other key information from the insured

Definitions: In determining the scope of coverage, the insurance policy depends on a very specific
and very clear meaning of the terms and phrases. Since these terms and phrases are often repeated
many times in an insurance policy, a single definition of a term or phrase is included in the
definition of the policy, rather than when the term is used. When the term is defined in the
insurance terms, the reader is usually reminded, usually placed in quotation marks. Since the
definition may have a significant impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Wuthering Heights and Romantic Ascent
Martha Nussbaum describes the romantic ascent of various characters in Wuthering Heights
through a philosophical Christian view. She begins by describing Catherine as a lost soul searching
for heaven, while in reality she longs for the love of Heathcliff. Nussbaum continues by comparing
Heathcliff as the opposition of the ascent from which the Linton s hold sacred within their Christian
beliefs. Nussbaum makes use of the notion that the Christian belief in Wuthering Heightsis both
degenerate and way to exclude social classes.
To begin Catherine attempts to find heaven as way to soothe her emotion, but discovers her heart
belongs to something else. That something else is Heathcliff, who also finds life on earth a tortuous
and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the paradox continues because their love cannot ascend to its ultimate form, as each will
refuse their love by the social desires of the time.
Nussbaum also establishes a conflict between the fundamental Christian world of the Lintons,
and the chaotic world of Heathcliff. The distinction is clearly drawn as a virtuous and
companionate world in which the Linton s live, while Heathcliff is drawn to immoral and
devious actions. The author does not however see it this simple. The superficial piteous world is
in fact shadowed by a shallow a fake ideal of life. Even Catherine realizes the forged environment
in which the Linton s live, as she explains, in whichever place the soul lives. In my soul and in
my heart, I m convinced I m wrong. Even though Heathcliff is portrayed as a demonic figure, he
also is shown as the romantic Christina lover. This love is the driving force behind his urge to fight
against what is expected of him. Both the Linton s and Heathcliff are not given the satisfaction of
becoming the portrait for the ideal Christian.
The novel also goes on to comment on Christianity as both imperfect and dubious school of
thought. In the first instance the most pious characters including the Lintons, Ellen Dean, and
Joseph all behave in direct contradiction of their belief. They act selfishly and look no further than
for their own superficial world. Bronte at least gives Heathcliff a justified method

Red Dress 1946 By Alice Munro Individuality And Conformity
In the story Red Dress 1946 by Alice Munro Individuality and Conformity is discussed. Some
examples of this is during the story is there was a carnival atmosphere of brutality in the room at
such times, scaring weak and suspect people like me . The reason this is important to the text
and idea of the essay is because we often feel left out when we are ourselves. In life, we want to
fit in we are made to want this just like the main character in the story she wants a dress like my
friend Lonnie had. Is it implied that she is in a poor finance situation, as many were at that time.
The author Alice Munro portrays situational social pressure when the main character gets home
from the dance a quote to support this oppressive obligation I had,... Show more content on

An example of this is on page nine after the protagonist s dress is make by her mother the quote I
will use to describe this is well nobody ever made me a dress when I was in High School.
Reasons why this is important is because this shows the mother s why this is important is
because we all feel it at some point and for the lead character this is during the days before the
dance. A perfect illustration of family pressure is when the Mother of the friend of Lonnie
exclaims, I doubt if she appreciates it. When we have home pressures some of us do things only
to please the people around us an example of the protagonist doing this is when every morning,
including the day of the dance, I woke up in perfect health. This is ample evidence because the
narrator shows how she wants a reason to not go to the dance. Another image of family pressure
is when the main character is pressured into having the protection of all female rituals. The
reason this is important is because she is trying to hide behind beauty to not show her insecurity
to the point where she looks like a Zulu with her hair curled. Further proof of family pressure is
on page 12 when the mother says will I wish I could take a picture I am really, genuinely proud
of that fit. And you might even say thank you for it. The mother pressures her daughter to say a
false thank you this image is given by Alice Munro to show a teenage sassiness and it gives

King Solomon Quotes With Page Numbers
1 Kings 3:1 15, Early Promise of Solomon s Reign , is the passage in which the highlights of
king Solomon became to develop. King Solomon was well known for two of his outstanding
achievements. One of his achievements was that he obtained the wisdom that only God had the
power to give him, and the other was the construction of the temple of Israel s religious life.
During this passage king Solomon is showed as a humble man who is also strong, and in search for
the knowledge that would help him become a better king. King Solomon worried about Israel, and
making good acts that would help him give fair judgement. As the passage starts it illustrates how
the relationships that Solomon was building with neighboring kings were powerful, and trustworthy.

Although this is how 1 Kings ends, with Solomon turning away from God, the whole book
makes its message across of how Solomon was in the right path when he worshiped no one else
but the LORD. When Solomon started to break Moses laws, the misfortune began to develop in
the kingdom. Solomon worst mistake was that he began to worship other gods, he build temples
for them, and practiced rites. He broke his faith with God and favor the ways of other foreigners
over the ones from Israel. The kingdom split in two, but all this was the effect of Solomon s
betrayal. The ending of the first book of Kings could be considered as an analogy of how our life
could fall apart like Israel, if we do not have absolute faithfulness to God, and let him be the center

Environment encouraging the industrial growth is missing in the picture. The manufacturing
sector in Nepal is small contributing 8% of its share to the total G.D.P. It consists mainly of small
industries. Capital goods industries are few in number. Most of the sectors manufacture food even
though the structure is changing. This sector consists of five sub sectors namely a. Food,
Beverage and Tobacco b. Textile and garment c. Chemical d. Mechanical Engineering e. Electrical
and Electronics The production growth has been significant in paper, food, footwear, iron and
steel, beverage and chemical industries. Fund is the most important criteria to operate any kind of
business or organization. It can be raised by two sources i.e. Equity Capital and Debt Capital.
These two sources of capital comprise the total capital structure. Capital Structure refers to the
composition of all source and amount of funds collected to use or invest in business. In other words
Capital structure refers to the capital and long term liabilities of balance sheet. Therefore, it
includes shareholder s fund and long term loans. It is different from financial structure as financial
structure includes both long term and short term source of financing while capital structure
includes only long term source of financing. Thus, a firm s capital structure is only a part of its
financial structure.

Summary Of The Unicorn By Dr. Wright
Jayna burst into the clearing on the back of the unicorn. Chaos recognized her immediately.
You!
Jayna demanded, Let them go evil thing!
She was a little disappointed her voice was back to normal, her goddess voice was much more
intimidating. Her heart thumped so hard with fear that she thought it would bruise her ribs.
You re the easiest of all, said the black thingin a voice she recognized. It was Dr. Wright s.
Already Wright s body was being deformed by the being that cohabited it, but when Jayna pulled
out her glowing sword, there was enough of him left that she recognized him. She shuddered when
she realized this would have been her fate if that thing was still inside of her. The thing extended its
hand in her direction and black tendrils rose up out of the ground and wrapped around the unicorn s
legs. Then Jayna s world faded away and she woke up in another.
Elmer was lost in the dark, he couldn t keep up with Jayna and now Chaos had obscured his
vision. He had no choice now, he pulled his hat down over his third eye and headed back to the
others.
Shaddrack saw his reflection in the glass shelf behind the counter, he was dismayed to see he was
an old man again. Older even than the man who had failed the first time around. There was nothing
to be done about it, old or not, he had to act quickly. The little girlnamed Julie Ann and her mother

Chemistry Of Film
Chemistry of Film Exposure and Development
Film is composed of an acetate base coated with a photographic emulsion layer. The base supports
the emulsion, which consists of small silver halide crystals suspended in gelatin. The crystals are
Silver Iodobromide (silver bromide with added silver iodide). (Earle L. Kitts) When the emulsion
is struck by light, the silver halide is converted to solid silver. (Janice Clifton) A crystal absorbs a
photon of light, with energy equal to Planck s constant times the frequency of the light, liberating
an electron from the ion. This leads to the formation of a photoelectron and neutral bromine atom.
(Earle L. Kitts) The photoelectron combines with a silver ion to form a neutral metallic silver atom.
(Earle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the unprocessed negatives are treated with developer, an agent that turns silver halide to
solid silver. (Janice Clifton) The most common developing agents are phenidone and
hydroquinone. The active agents have a high pH, causing the gelatin to swell and allowing for a
more rapid penetration throughout the emulsion. (Earle L. Kitts) The bromide in the gelatin acts
as a development restrainer, preventing the development of unexposed silver bromide grains that
would cause fog. (Earle L. Kitts) Development is a chemical reaction, so time and temperature
must be regulated. (Janice Clifton) After development, some photosensitive silver halide crystals
remain. (Janice Clifton) A stop bath of Acetic acid neutralizes the developer with no effect on
the silver halide. The developed negatives are treated with a fixer solution of high concentration
sodium hyposulfite to dissolve the unused silver halide.(Earle L. Kitts)(Janice Clifton) Once the
film is removed from the fixer, it can be exposed to regular light since only solid silver negative
remains. A hypo cleaning agent is then used to neutralize fixer on the film. This step is optional
however the alternative is to run the film under water for an hour as opposed to 6 minutes.
Photoflo, a wetting agent, is then added to break down the surface tension of water droplets so the
film dries spot free, similarly to dishwasher detergent with glass. (Janice

Bus Transit And Mass Transit
1 INTRODUCTION
1.1General
In urban areas due to expansion of cities and population growth the major problems which arise are
more travel time and more travel cost. For Developing countries like India, China, Brazil etc. taking
affordability and mobility into account the policy makers induced public transport system for
movements like inter urban or intra urban. Various examples are BusTransit Mass Transit. Due to
bigger city size and fixed routes of these systems its accessibility varies for different user. These
predefined fixed routes do not take into account the whole catchment area from where the users
are using. Among these users there are some users which use daily bases are known as
commuters. Such commuters access/egress the transit system by a variety of modes such as by
walking, bicycle, manual tricycle, motorized 2 3 wheeler, feeder bus services and cars. Each
mode has its utility within certain distance range (Khistey and Sriraj 1996) . Increase in city size
has reflected in the utility of various modes, utility of motorized vehicles have increased whereas
the utility of non motorized have decreased. From socio economic point, these include loss of
employment, slow elimination of environment friendly modes like bicycles, manual tricycles and
walk and increase in population levels. The mode choice for access and egress varies for various
users but for policy makers it is very important to identify the factors which are influencing these

What Is Restorative Justice
Before Restorative justice came along victims did not have a voice. They were the ones that had
to cry in silence while the offenders go on with their lives. Restorative justice repairs the harm
caused by crime. It is an approach to justice that focuses on the needs of the victims and the
offenders, as well as the involved community. Some of the main approaches are to punish the
offender or satisfy legal principles. Nowadays getting restorative Justiceisn t hard there are so many
people out there that want to help. The comfort women who were exploited during World War 2

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in our lakes,
rivers, streams, and drinking water sources cause the degradation of these water bodies and harm
fish, wildlife, and human health. In the 2000 National Water Quality Inventory, states reported that
agricultural nonpoint source (NPS) pollution was the leading source of water quality impacts on
surveyed rivers and lakes, as well as the second largest source of impairments to wetlands, and a
major contributor to contamination of surveyed estuaries and groundwater. Agricultural activities
that cause NPS pollution include poorly located or managed animal feeding operations;
overgrazing; plowing too often or at the wrong time; and improper, excessive or poorly timed
application of pesticides, irrigation water and fertilizer. Since the 1960s, the high input of
agriculture production has resulted in the surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus in farm fields, which
run off into surface waters. High concentrations of nitrates and phosphates in surface waters could
lead to eutrophication and instability of the aquatic ecosystems. Eutrophication is caused by the
over enrichment of water with phosphates and nitrates, a problem that has become a widespread in

Regret At My High School
Regrets
I never really thought about it until today. Today was the day I learned that Tony Weston, a kid
that I went to high school with, had committed suicide a month after our graduation. I am 28
years old now, so graduation was ten years ago. The teachers at my high school hated me. I showed
no effort in anything that I did and I was extremely obnoxious in class. They wanted to get rid of
me as soon as possible just like my parents. My dad was in the Navy so he wasn t home much.
When he was, it was like our family were his men; he ordered us to do everything. He would
always stare me down after he demanded something of me and I had to give the reply of, yes sir.
My parents got a divorce while I was in high school and that s when my life took a turn for the
worst. After graduation, I left town and headed for New York City to pursue a new life. I didn t
learn what happened to Tony until today when I got a card in the mail from Easton High School
in the rural town of Easton, New York. An invitation to the ten year reunion for my class. On the
inside of the invitation listed all one hundred fifty or so names of our graduating class. I hadn t
seen any of these people in ten years because I had never gone back to Easton since graduation
day. My first reaction was that I was not going, so I threw the card in the trash. As I was doing
this I saw a picture of Tony Weston on the back, picking it up I read, A special tribute to our lost
friend, Tony Weston. I had no idea

The Major Empires Of West Africa From 1200-1500
1) What were the major empires of West Africa from 1200 1500? What were their major industries,
modes of social organization? What were their standards of living and lifespans compared to
Europe?
The Mali empire was established in 1235. It was the largest and the richest empire in the African
Middle Ages. During this time Malian emperors relied on a small central administration, which was
primarily concerned with finances and justice. (Patterns of World History pg. 400) The empire
financed itself through tributes and taxes, but their main source of income relied on trade. The Mali
would often trade long distance through merchants and scholars. In Timbuktu, the Mali would
produce or mine for salt, creating a Salt Trade Hub in Timbuktu. Timbuktu was also important
because it was one of the most important scholarly cities in the world that held massive libraries.
Mansa Musa the Malian ruler who annexed Timbuktu. He wanted to share his wealth with his
people, so he founded a college, a library, and part of Sankore Mosque. Mansa Musa lived a very
lavish and luxurious life and tried to share that life with his people. This actually put in the gold
markets in relapse because he put too much gold into circulation, but it influenced Malians to
become scholars and at a higher standard of living.
The Great Zimbabwe was a kingdom that was established in 1250. This kingdom was a culmination
of various southern African kingdoms. While most settlements within the kingdom were dedicated

The Importance Of Physical Similarity
An old saying states that birds of a feather flock together. It can be quite comforting to meet
someone who is similar to yourself. Like minded individuals not only validate our beliefs about
the world, but also reduce the risk of conflicts and disagreements (Barelds Barelds Dijkstra,
2007, p. 479). In fact, research has shown that people are more likely to be in relationships with
others who are similar to themselves in terms of attitudes, values, social group memberships,
and physical appearances than with dissimilar others (Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011, p. 879).
Physical Similarity A study conducted by Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson (2011) examined how
seating preferences are affected by physical similarity in strangers. The researchers proposed
that people would sit closer to physically similar others even when those physical similarities are
unrelated to important markers of social status, such as sex and race. The study states that
without the opportunity to interact facilitated by physical proximity, a relationship is less likely
to form (Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011, p. 879). Across 4 studies, it was found that people
tend to sit closer to physically similar others than physically dissimilar others. Study 1 revealed
significant aggregation in seating patterns on two easily observed characteristics: glasses
wearing and sex. Seating arrangements at a Canadian university on campus computer lab with
31 seats was observed on 21 (non overlapping) occasions over 3 months. Using a seating diagram,
the researcher recorded whether a person occupied each seat. In total, 356 individuals were
observed; 23% were wearing glasses (N = 82) and 57.6% were women (N = 205). This shows
that, as predicted, glasses wearers sat by other glasses wearers (and non glasses wearers by other
non glasses wearers) more frequently than expected by chance alone. Study 2 replicated this
finding with a wider variety of physical traits: race, sex, glasses wearing, hair length, and hair
color. In the second study, 18 university classes (freshman and sophomore level) were observed.
Three large classrooms at a Canadian university were chosen, and professors who taught courses in
those classrooms were emailed for permission to

Sesame Workshop s decision to incorporate a transgender Muppet on the show mirrors the gradual
changes that have progressively taken place within the framework of feminism. The Eastern
Kentucky University Women and Gender Studies Program defined the evolution of feminism as:
Historically, feminism has evolved from the critical examination of inequality between the sexes
with a more nuanced focus on the social and performative constructions of gender and sexuality
(2017). In other words, the feminist establishment has transformed along with time to reflect the
changes in society. Which perfectly makes sense! In order, for progress to occur, you must move
along with the times, and Sesame Streethas done that. Thus, the show will continue to positively
influence hundreds of American youth because they know that social evolution is the key to success!
Similarly, Sesame Street touches on the complexities surrounding race. Segi is a black, female
Muppet who made her debut in Season 42. This progression can be viewed as positive as it was a
racially diversifying move. However, the character was not given a name until Season 45 (Muppet
Wiki 2017). Therefore, I find the addition of the character to be an important aspect supporting
racial equality, but the fact that she remained unnamed for three seasons seems to be rather
counterproductive. Eventually, Sesame Workshopnamed Segi after Joey Mazzarino s adopted
daughter, for whom Mazzarino wrote: I Love My Hair (Muppet Wiki 2017).

Elizabeth Bennet Research Paper
Elizabeth Bennet, a woman of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, was doomed to
be forever tied to the expectations society had for women of the time. She was to be wed to a
befitting suitor, and behave as a woman should. That being said, it becomes quite clear to the
reader (along with the other characters) that Elizabeth couldn t care less of the expectations
society had for her at least, far less than most women of her time did. Elizabeth, while tied to the
society she was born into, did not let the whims of the populace dictate every move she made in
her life, most specifically of how and when to be wed.
The standards for men and women of the time between 1796 1813 dictated nearly every aspect of
an individual s life. It told each person how to behave and how they will advance in society. The
most important thing to a woman of this time was her own reputation. Her class and familial
wealth were the main contributors to how others perceived her. It was best for a woman to marry
well (wealthy, good breeding, good family background, etc.) to maintain a good and sturdy
reputation. However, a woman couldn t just worry about herself and how others perceived her.
There was also the worry of the family reputation, which, as it was, would also affect a woman s
reputation. If the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Milleneration And Generation Z And The Post-Millennial...
Millennials are defined to have been born somewhere between the mid to late 80s till the early
to mid 90s, whereas Generation Z is characterized to have been born between 1995 till about
now. Therein lies a large area for differences between the two generations. I was born on the tail
end of 1999 meaning I was technically born in the Gen Z era, but I sometimes see myself relating
to Millennials I see online or in mainstream media. I will discuss both generations and then decide
where I most see myself.
Generation Z, the Post Millennial generation take up a decent sized chunk of the US population.
They are also referred to as the iGeneration or Gen Tech. You rarely hear of this generation as
they are usually overshadowed by the previous gen (Millennials). But Gen Z ers are a group all
their own. George Beall of the Huffington Post states that Gen Z processes information faster...
Thus their attention spans might be significantly lower than Millennials but that despite being less
focused as compared to Millennials Gen Z can quickly and efficiently shift between work and
play, with multiple distractions going on in the background . I can personally see myself a little in
this, I have a terribly short attention span but I can t really multitask. Beall also states that
Generation Z desires more independent work environments , implying that they lean more towards
entrepreneurial work. I can t relate to this, I thrive off of at least a little structure, I m not good in the

Melville says it is Better to sleep with a sober cannibal than a drunken Christian. (18) Many
Christians can be known to take on equal characteristics as a cannibal. People do not believe
Christians are sinners in the same way as cannibals can be because Christians speak against
sinning. The character in the story slept better next to a cannibal, even though the stranger

this is the lack of understanding or the desire of what it means to go to church every Sunday.

Family Structure In The Lion King Simba
Family is what you make of it. It is who you are close to, who you have a connection to, even if
you are not blood related. Family is people who you trust, people you can tell personal things to,
or cry on their shoulder. I think everyone has an honorary family member(s). They are people
who are always with you or someone you know very well. After Simba left Pride Rock he met
Timon and Pumba in the forest. They started to live the Hakuna Matata lifestyle. Simba created a
familybecause he had no one else to care for, and no one to care for him. They created a family
structure, they had each other and cared for each other. Even though they weren t blood related
they had a family structure of a family. That is why I think we can make of a family out of blood

The Federal Government Of The United States
The federal government of the United States of America faces lots of challenges through their
operations. American citizens desire to witness several changes that can boost their lives under
different fields of life. It goes without being mentioned that the stiff economic competition on the
market in the current era plays a crucial role in mobilizing the masses to embrace or deter from
several existing issues. Therefore, different governments have to analyze the demands and pleas
of the local common citizens before implementing laws and specific management strategies. It is
essential to note that not all of the implemented strategies might positively affect the lives of the
common citizens. The leadership of a running government can be full self centered people who
might want to discriminate the weak in the society by making laws which favor their operations.
With this in mind, there is always a high probability of rebellion from people at the lower levels
in the society who protest for the stabilization of laws to fit in with their desires and demands. The
purpose of this paper is to highlight how protests from citizens have been part and parcel of politics
in the United Statesof America between the year1900 and 2010.

Speeding Bullet Two Heaven Analysis
Look no further: Kid Cudi s new record Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven has all the attributes of a bad
album and then some. On the backs of critically panned singles CONFUSED! , Wedding Tux ,
and the perfectly named Judgmental Cunt , Cudi s latest record differs incredibly from both Man
On The Moons. This is not a hip hop album, first of all the entire hour long record is guitars and
bass, taking significant inspiration from angsty 90s alt rock. There is nothing intrinsically wrong
with this, and Cudi is at least trying to stretch some boundaries. However, he utterly misses the
mark. Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven is an utter failure, a nastily boring album that fails to address any
of the flaws in Cudi s approach to rock songwriting.
It can be hard to cross over genres, just as it is hard to cross over art forms. Some do it with
aplomb to pull a name or two out of the hat, Zooey Deschanel is a talented actor and songwriter,
and Justin Timberlake has proven his worth in comedy and film as much as he has in his music.

United States Logic Behind Multilateral Peace Building...
What causes two groups from the same nation to engage in a bloody and lengthy civil war?
Although greed and grievances are commonplace explanations, they alone cannot account for the
duration and recurrence of intrastate war over the last half century. To properly understand this
phenomenon, one must perceive the cause of domestic armed conflict as an instance of bargaining
failure. While all three proximate causes of bargaining failure in civil warare exactly the same as
those in international war, their situations are distinguished by the fact that the cause of a civil wars
persistence is the same as it s initiation. I will argue that problems with credible commitment are
the most profound obstacle in the resolution of civil conflict and are largely responsible for their
recurrence and duration. In support, this essay will discuss the logic behind multilateral peace
building strategies such as the utilization of peacekeeping forces and third party guarantees of
ceasefire agreements. When conflict arises between independent states, multinational peacekeeping
organizations such as the UN can impose extensive economic sanctions and deploy their military
forces in order to end a war by vastly increasing its costs. Regulated by an international police
force, states are more inclined to accept peace, bargain with their enemies, and stay loyal to their
word. This is not the case with domestic disputes. Opposite to international conflict, when a
settlement is reached between

Marius had two triumphs. He must of been a great military commander to earn achievement. His
military process is what got him his first consulship. Plutarch describes how his name and
reputation spread through Africa and he also notes Marius display of consummate courage
(Plutarch Marius 7) Your name and reputation don t spread for no reason; Marius must have had
excelled in the qualities most sought after in regard to war. Plutarch says how he showed the he
was: capable of going through what the soldiers injured, his foresight. The former gave him
considerable affection and loyalty from the troops , this loyalty lead to the soldiers writing back
to Rome, stating that The African war could only be won if Marius was elected consol (Plutarch
Marius 7) This shows that Marius must have excelled hugely at military process. The Scipio

compelling argument to the Romans. Plutarch notes how Metellus was visually displeased about
this (Plutrach Marius 8) Giving us further evidence to how people felt about new men. He had to

some. This shows that he thought of new ways to use the Roman armies. Which was basically
taking the poor and training them. That training would appear to pay off. He got a triumph. It
must have been quite a shock to the Romans in some ways that a new man who becomes consol

Angelina, Milka and Marica, in the family. His mother, Djuka Mandic, who invented small

electrical invention. Tesla s father, Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian orthodox priest and a writer, and

While both men went on to continue developing sensational inventions, Edison is the man most
credited in history books for his work. Tesla, on the other hand, was not an inventor seeking fame,
but one who simply had a peculiar and uncanny view on the world. He was known to have
outbursts of creative genius that led to days of non stop work, eventually resulting in his

Alternating Current electrical theories. While this stood in direct opposition to the corporately
backed efforts of Edison to promote a Direct Current network for electrical distribution, Tesla
continued with the idea of transmitting electricity through the air, and free to all people. Edison
scoffed at the idea, but even the newest research in the 21st century reveals that Tesla s notions are
quite feasible. In the end, it is clear that his early education at home, his formal education on record,
and his work with Edison all contributed to the foundation of Nikola Teslas broad range of work.
The public perception of Tesla was quite positive during his productive years, even earning the
financial backing of J. Pierpont Morgan for a while . Tesla s disputes with Edison grew over the

eventually died penniless in 1943 while residing in a New York hotel. By all accounts, he was

Walmart And Its Impact On The United States
Descriptive essay title Walmart is in virtually every community in the United States. It offers their
customers unbeatable prices that their competitors find difficult to challenge. But in providing
those great deals it deducts from other sources. Walmart directly imports from Asia and in turn Asia
produces cheaply made items and sells to Walmart for a low cost. Thus, creating a scarce number of
jobs available for American workers. Additionally, Walmart employees are mistreated in the
workplace. Unions are discouraged and workers income are not enough to pay for Walmart s $75

That is so weird! And without their knowledge of my sexuality, quite often people assumed I
was a lesbian because I played football. Without knowing any axes of my life, I was
automatically put in a lower position, just because I am a girl who played football. This also is
seen in the movie. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother
overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love, but she misinterprets it and thinks
Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is
not gay, the mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even
though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in fact not a lesbian. This shows
certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes.
Football is such a gendered sport that it automatically leads to sexism, thinking girls who play
football must be lesbian because they play a men s sport. Lesbianism is also seen as something
less good than being straight, seeing the mother is relieved her daughter is not a lesbian. The

It is society as a whole telling us the individuality can be reached while raising you to conform to
its generalized population. In the previously cited book, Stargirl Caraway embodies this idea.
Leo Borlock, on the other hand, embodies the rest of us. As children, our minds are our own,
and we follow the ways of this extrovert girl that thinks deserts dance and enchanted places are a
reality. While, as we grow society has unexplicitly forced us to follow the group, because they

Furthermore, any person s individuality is delicate. And extremely fragile. A friend or loved one

Battle Of New France Essay
During the 17th century, the French and Native allies inflicted monumental defeats against
England. At the same time, New France was rapidly expanded into areas of land stretching down
South towards Louisiana. As Settlements began to prosper, Great Britain viewed this growth as a
threat to their position in North American trade, which was the linchpin to war with New France.
Through years of industrious and unwearying battle, The French fought unwaveringly to defend

Therefore, they sent very little troops to combat the Americans and defend the New France
colony. France also deemed it vital to protect their colonies in the West Indies because they
thought that sugar cane was more of a lucrative business than the fur trade in New France. The
war between colonies were heavily dependent upon supplies and reinforcements sent by the
mother countries. This was clearly evident because Britain was dedicated to a full forced
takeover versus Britain that sent only what they could spare. The British had a fleet of ships in
their Royal Navy that was a key cog in taking over New France. The British used these ships to
capture French ships sent from France with supplies from entering port. As a result, Louisbourg
was the first domino to fall. In 1758, Louisbourg witnessed this massive fleet of ships enter the

The tables had turned; Louisbourg was now under constantly bombardment. As the fortress started

The Rain Tree in the Valley
Once upon a time, in a beautiful valley, there lived a rain tree. It was tall and big, and very wise,
but many years had past since anyone came to the beautiful valley. The birds and the butterflies
came and went, and the rain tree was lonely. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick
some nuts, and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a
few days, a little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would
die soon because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or
the sun shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as
possible, but every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily
was getting weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke
up. Hello sir, may I have a minute? The rain tree, hearing voices for the first time in forever, was

The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization
The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success
of in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis.
Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive
structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was
created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot
conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the
condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research
can soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in
reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally
located inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and
peritoneum, and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002).
The misplaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue
thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the
tissue to leave the body, the tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo
Clinic, 2013). When the ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may
form. The surrounding

Osmosis and Diffusion on Different Concentrations of...
1. Provide the aim and background information
2.1. Diffusion is the spontaneous kinetic movement by which molecules move from an area of a
high concentration to an area of low concentration. Diffusion continues until it reaches equilibrium.
Osmosis is similar to Diffusion but it s the process in which water moves across a semi permeable
membrane and goes to the higher concentration of solute.1
2.2. Important factors to Osmosis and Diffusion include Temperature, Concentration and Surface
area to volume ratio. Temperature can affect the rate in which a solute dissolves in a solution, higher
temperature faster rate of Osmosis. This is caused by the molecules movements being faster in
higher temperatures. Concentrations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results from the experiment have shown that an increase in sodium chloride solution increases
the rate of osmosis and diffusion until the percentage reaches an amount that is near the
concentration of solutes inside the eggs membrane.
4.14. The accuracy of the data is dependent on the correct controls being in place, Ensuring
temperate stays the same throughout all solutions, making sure that the solutions are correct that
the weight and size of the eggs are the measured correctly and that when the eggs are removed
they are removed at the same time. Some of the eggs were not completely submerged in the
solution this may cause some errors in the experiment and may have caused varying results. The
eggs were of different sizes this also will cause the results to vary, Gathering eggs of exact size
and weight would have ensured the results were correct. The eggs may not have been dried
enough also causing results to vary; this can be fixed by ensuring that the eggs are thoroughly
dried. The eggs were taken out at a time around about 24 hours, having an exact time to remove the
eggs would have eliminated errors.
4.15. The purpose of this investigation was to use our knowledge on osmosis and diffusion and
apply it to a de shelled egg and see how it reacts being submerged in a sodium chloride solution.
The hypothesis was that the egg would expand and increase in both size and weight this is proven
correct in the table of

Pros And Consequences Of Recidivism
Recidivism refers to the act of committing another crime after a person has already received
punishment for previous offenses. The term is also used to describe individuals who tend to
relapse to a life of questionable behavior. The social process theory may explain a possible link to
recidivism. This argument known in the criminal justicesector as a criminal behavior that is a
predictable result of a person s interaction with his or her environment (Gaines); Nevertheless,
whatever the case may be, recidivism has become a vicious cycle as in the case of Michael
Christopher Mejia, [a]n admitted gang member told detectives he smoked a Whittier policeofficer
and his own cousin and shot another cop, according to a tape recorded interview played in court...
during a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial for the killings
(NBC4). Likewise, recidivism is that individual who is responsible for subjecting their spouse or
partner to repeated domestic violence. Domestic violence offenders resort to physical abuse as a
method of establishing control and power in a relationship. Most victims of domestic violence
usually are subjected to more than one instance of abuse by the same partner. It is very common
for a batterer to submit their spouse or partner to physical violence even after the perpetrator has
received treatment or jail time. Also, recidivism is that repeated sex offender who took the life of
seven year old Megan Kanka, in the summer of

Madness In Euripides The Bacchae
The Bacchae by Greek playwright Euripides premiered in approximately 405 B.C. The play tells
the story of Dionysus taking out revenge of the royal family of Cadmus for their rejection of his
mother and of his religion. Euripides Dionysus is extremely different from the one that we thought
we knew. We think of Dionysusas the god of wine, theatre, and religious ecstasy. In this play, we
are reminded that Dionysus is also the god of madness. One thing this play also reminds us is
that he is a god and like all the other gods he cares little for the mortals and does whatever he
wants to do to them no matter what happens to him. One way that he does this is by bringing out
the unconscience desires that the Greeks would have feared. Tiresias, the seer, says For you are
sick, possessed by madness so perverse, no drug can cure, no madness can undo (537 538). In this
quote, Tiresias is telling Pentheus that he is mad for rejecting Dionysus. He is so mad in this that
madness wouldn t even cure him. In this moment, Tiresias is saying that the cure, which would be
to worship Dionysus, is not enough to cure his madness. Tiresias basically calls Dionysus madness.
Dionysus represents madness throughout the play. He brings madness upon the women of the play
to a horrible end.
Madness is a theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Wildfires In The Western States
no surprise that wildfires are a huge issue in the western states. Especially on Indian Reservations.
Two articles that focus on this issue are called Secretary Zinke Directs Interior Bureaus to Take
aggressive Action to Prevent Wildfires, US Department of Interior Western US Faces Wildfires
Explosion by Kieran Cooke, Climate News Network. Both of these articles argue that wildfires
shouldn t become normalized and that something should be done to prevent and/or be better
prepared for when wildfires occur. In essence these articles focus primarily on the amount of land
burning and the effect it has on vegetation.
In 2016 there have been more than 4,000 wildfires in California, with well over 300,000 acres of
land burned (Kieran Cooke). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s in our nature to assume wildfires will just go away, but for a Native American the values are
different. Especially when it comes to their land burning, Natives have always thought of the
land as sacred and a gift from the creator. In social environments it s normal to assume that land
is used for farming, trees are used for paper, and land is used for building on. As one basic
concept for all, the thought of land burning means the loss of values. The blackened tree stumps
stand out against a clear blue sky. The land burned, and there is a smell of charcoal and ash in
the air. People in the area are used to wildfires, but as California and much of the western US
endures its fifth year, residents are wondering when there will be any respite from the flames and
smoke (Kieran Cooke). It shouldn t have to become a normal thing to hear about wildfires.

Ethos In Fast Food Nation
The modern fast food industry has undeniably transformed and helped define the American way of
life, but not all in positive ways. The industry capitalizes on the exploitation of workers,
consumers, and the environment, and Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation addresses these very
issues of the fast food industry. Schlosser criticizes these fast foodcorporations, projecting his
argument to all consumers of fast food. Eric Schlosser s primary goal is to reveal the deplorable
business practices utilized by the fast food industry, and he uses the three appeals of ethos, pathos,
and logos all as tools to help persuade the reader and strengthen his argument. Schlosser uses
appeals to ethos in order to convince readers of his credibility and authenticity, cementing his
criticisms against the fast food industry as valid and deserving of attention. Throughout his
introduction, Schlosser often writes in the first person, proclaiming that I am concerned about
[fast food s] impact on the nation s children (9), and describing why I chose Colorado Springs as
a focal point for this book (7). Schlosser thus explains himself to the reader, not only justifying his
actions but more importantly using a more open and intimate tone to establish his persona of
someone who sincerely cares for his nation and his cause. Schlosser also makes sure to mention that
he visits all the settings he writes about in person. In one instance, he writes of the conditions he
witnesses during [his] trips

Best Buy Is An Electronics Company
Many companies are doing a great job at being and remaining productive. As the companies
productivity increase then so will the revenue. Increased productivity and revenue proves that the
successful companies have taken steps to ensure their future and growth. This growth can be
achieved with all companies that will follow the same formula. The formula can involve a number
of different methods however the best methods that seem to be the most useful is by using cluster
sampling, surveys containing open ended questions and analyzing employees or the company as a
whole. A company that could really use an evaluation to increase productivity is Best Buy. Best Buy
is an electronics company that has been one of the leaders in electronic sales for years. However,
over the years beginning in 1997 Best buy has had numerous makeovers and some downscaling.
Some of the downscaling was the cause of less productivity or because they wanted to extend their
electronics catalog.
While looking over the history of Best Buy it has been found that they have had great success in
the electronics retail business. They did a great job realizing what businesses they needed to cut
off from the company and what companies to acquire that would help with productivity and
revenue. This accomplish was realized when Best buy was able to use Geek Squad to complete
all of there services. It is important for a company to realize a conflict between a certain groups in
the company and take care of any issues

Hollingsworth V. Virginia
Hollingsworth V. Virginia Hollingsworth v. Virginia was the court case that initiated in 1792 in
which it ruled the president possesses no formal role in the ratification of constitutional
amendments. This case went on for 6 years and began as a suit against the state of Virginia by
the Indiana Land Company. The 11th amendment deals with each state s sovereign immunity
and was adopted in order to overrule the U.S. Supreme Court s decision in Chisholm v. Georgia.
In other words it prohibits federal courts from hearing cases lodged against a state by a citizen or
by another state. The Eleventh Amendment was passed to overturn the Supreme Court ruling in
the 1793 case of Chisholm v. Georgia. Alexander Chisholm of South Carolina filed suit against
the State of Georgia for breach of contract, seeking payment for goods supplied to Georgia during
the War of Independence. Levi Hollingsworth was a merchant from Pennsylvania who owned
shares in the Indiana Company that was involved in land speculation. The company was seeking
to resolve a land claim with the state of Virginia regarding land in what is now West Virginia.
Hollingsworth replaced the previous case against a man named William Grayson who was from the
state of Virginia. The replacement was made when the Supreme Court ruled that a citizen or another
state could sue a state. There were two main problems the first was whether the 11th amendment
was valid because it hadn t gotten approval from the president yet. The second

The Impact Of Stuxnet Worm On The World s Nuclear Facilities
Another occurrence of cyberwarfare and its power lies within the Stuxnet worm, unleashed
primarily to attack Iranian industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the nation s Nuclear
facilities. The Stuxnet worm is typically introduced to its target environment via an infected USB
flash drive, and upon being loaded onto a computerrunning the Microsoft Windows operating
system the worm would then seek out Siemens Step7 software. This software will then allow for
Stuxnet to control Iranian PLCs, collecting information on industrial systems and causing the fast
spinning centrifuges to tear themselves apart. Stuxnet s complexity is evident in its three prong
approach to infection: It unloads a worm that executes all routines related to the main attack, it
executes a link file that automatically activates other copies of the worm on the same network, and
it activates its rootkit, which allows it to hide its processes and activity on the local computer as
well as the entire computer network. Kaspersky Lab, an international software securitygroup
operating in almost 200 countries and territories worldwide, concluded that the attack is a one of a
kind, sophisticated malwareattack backed by a well funded, highly skilled attack team and that the
attack could only be conducted with nation state support and backing . In May 2011, the PBS
program Need To Know cited a statement by Gary Samore, White House Coordinator for Arms
Control and Weapons of Mass Destruction, in which

Divine Law versus Human Law Essay
Divine Law versus Human Law
Sophocles famous play, Antigone, can be perceived as a conflict between individual conscience and
state policy. Yet the issue of the play goes beyond that conflict and touches the universal conditions
of suffering, religion, and loyalty. Through Antigone s character which represents the spheres of
family loyalty, divine law, and human suffering, Sophocles conveys the idea that a law of man that
violates religious law is not a law at all. He expresses this idea by having Antigone dutifully bury
her brother s body although it is against King Kreon s ruling. Antigone s action is not only an act of
family loyalty but is an act of piety demanded by the gods. The play commences with Antigone
announcing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day
Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says
to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of
loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of
distress. Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her
brother; the guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother
by saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not
feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live
her life in pain. She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her
own death so she won t suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die.
/Let me. No suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is
conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer
and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of
loyalty to her own family. Although Ismene reminds Antigone of how their family s name

Perception And Perception Of Color
Perception of Color
What if I told you that my red was different from your red? The first thing you might wonder is
how I could possibly know this or you may even want to see evidence to support my claim.
However, experts have shown several different ways to convey that we do, in fact, perceive colors
differently. Few things have been proven in distinguishing perception, but there are copious
amounts of evidence suggesting that we perceive color differently because of our brains, past
experiences, and our genetics.
Perception is the state of being or process of becoming aware of something through the senses. In
addition to the five senses, perception also includes proprioception, which allows people to detect
the position of one s body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain starts to determine a color once the signal reaches the retina. The signal is then
analyzed by nerve cells and compared by neighboring cones and they calculate whether the light
is more blue yellow or red green. After that, the colors are divided into several pathways in the
brain where they are processed and identified. Recent evidence has come to show that the
processing systems in our brains are also perceptual systems, and that color is processed before
motion. This means that you are able to identify the color of a movement, before the movement
itself (webexhibits.org). For visual processing to grow and develop, you need to have several
visual experiences during critical periods after birth. This makes it exceptionally difficult for
people who are born blind who later have their vision restored to perform basic functions.
In an experiment that was conducted with monkeys, it was suggested that color perceptions comes
from some of the experiences we ve had in the world. The scientists who conducted the experiment
found male squirrel monkeys to be the best independent variable because they have a form of red
green color blindness, which is the most common form of color blindness in humans. The
blindness primarily afflicts males because the genes encoding red and green receptors are located
on the X chromosome, of which men only have one. Women have two X chromosomes, and a
normal gene can often

Comparing Television Documentaries and Their Gratifications
In this Essay I am going to watch four different documentaries, all with different topics. I will
analyse them and then work out how they offer gratifications to the audiences. I will write about
what affect they have and why they are used. I watched four different documentaries with four
different topics: Historical (Pirates The Golden Age), Mystery (Vanished The plane that
disappeared), Nature (Blue Planet) and horror / mystery (The Burkitsville Seven). All are very
successful and have many different ways in which they individually gratify the audience and explain
the set topic. First I will explain about how the documentaries are ... Show more content on

The Vanished documentary has a split narrativestructure skipping from scenes of the airplane to
when the soldiers are sent up on the investigation this is the only documentary, which is structured
this way and works very well it bounces back and forth in time. This technique is used because it
builds a suspense for the viewer and just a crucial moment is near it will switch so the viewer will
continue watching until it switches back again to the main screen, it gratifies the audience when it
is shown again. The Blue Planet has a very linear structure like the Burkitsville Seven (the
beginning of the documentary is shallow and it ends up at the bottom of the ocean) but at the end
they have a sub section demonstrating how the produced the documentary and proving its
reality, this is a form of self reflexive filming. They do not need to build suspense because it is
not that genre of documentary. The Pirate documentary as well as the Burkitsville Seven and the
Blue Planet happens periodically but this differs as there is a much larger timescale instead of
one main focus the are many sub plots about the different pirates of the time, this gratifies the
audience as it uses a wide range of stories and each one is different and has a wide range of events
so the viewer watches for the range of events. This is a little

Once reaffirming this, Bernard and Lenina offer to bring John and Linda back to the World State. Hoping to connect better to the people in the World State, John gladly accepts. Soon after, Bernard personality becomes overbearing and Mustapha Mond, the ruler of the World State, exiles him for non conformity. • 8. Essay about Wuthering Heights and Romantic Ascent Martha Nussbaum describes the romantic ascent of various characters in Wuthering Heights through a philosophical Christian view. She begins by describing Catherine as a lost soul searching for heaven, while in reality she longs for the love of Heathcliff. Nussbaum continues by comparing Heathcliff as the opposition of the ascent from which the Linton s hold sacred within their Christian beliefs. Nussbaum makes use of the notion that the Christian belief in Wuthering Heightsis both degenerate and way to exclude social classes. To begin Catherine attempts to find heaven as way to soothe her emotion, but discovers her heart belongs to something else. That something else is Heathcliff, who also finds life on earth a tortuous and difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the paradox continues because their love cannot ascend to its ultimate form, as each will refuse their love by the social desires of the time. Nussbaum also establishes a conflict between the fundamental Christian world of the Lintons, and the chaotic world of Heathcliff. The distinction is clearly drawn as a virtuous and companionate world in which the Linton s live, while Heathcliff is drawn to immoral and devious actions. The author does not however see it this simple. The superficial piteous world is in fact shadowed by a shallow a fake ideal of life. Even Catherine realizes the forged environment in which the Linton s live, as she explains, in whichever place the soul lives. In my soul and in my heart, I m convinced I m wrong. Even though Heathcliff is portrayed as a demonic figure, he also is shown as the romantic Christina lover. This love is the driving force behind his urge to fight against what is expected of him. Both the Linton s and Heathcliff are not given the satisfaction of becoming the portrait for the ideal Christian. The novel also goes on to comment on Christianity as both imperfect and dubious school of thought. In the first instance the most pious characters including the Lintons, Ellen Dean, and Joseph all behave in direct contradiction of their belief. They act selfishly and look no further than for their own superficial world. Bronte at least gives Heathcliff a justified method ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Red Dress 1946 By Alice Munro Individuality And Conformity In the story Red Dress 1946 by Alice Munro Individuality and Conformity is discussed. Some examples of this is during the story is there was a carnival atmosphere of brutality in the room at such times, scaring weak and suspect people like me . The reason this is important to the text and idea of the essay is because we often feel left out when we are ourselves. In life, we want to fit in we are made to want this just like the main character in the story she wants a dress like my friend Lonnie had. Is it implied that she is in a poor finance situation, as many were at that time. The author Alice Munro portrays situational social pressure when the main character gets home from the dance a quote to support this oppressive obligation I had,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is on page nine after the protagonist s dress is make by her mother the quote I will use to describe this is well nobody ever made me a dress when I was in High School. Reasons why this is important is because this shows the mother s why this is important is because we all feel it at some point and for the lead character this is during the days before the dance. A perfect illustration of family pressure is when the Mother of the friend of Lonnie exclaims, I doubt if she appreciates it. When we have home pressures some of us do things only to please the people around us an example of the protagonist doing this is when every morning, including the day of the dance, I woke up in perfect health. This is ample evidence because the narrator shows how she wants a reason to not go to the dance. Another image of family pressure is when the main character is pressured into having the protection of all female rituals. The reason this is important is because she is trying to hide behind beauty to not show her insecurity to the point where she looks like a Zulu with her hair curled. Further proof of family pressure is on page 12 when the mother says will I wish I could take a picture I am really, genuinely proud of that fit. And you might even say thank you for it. King Solomon was well known for two of his outstanding achievements. One of his achievements was that he obtained the wisdom that only God had the power to give him, and the other was the construction of the temple of Israel s religious life. During this passage king Solomon is showed as a humble man who is also strong, and in search for the knowledge that would help him become a better king. When Solomon started to break Moses laws, the misfortune began to develop in the kingdom. Solomon worst mistake was that he began to worship other gods, he build temples for them, and practiced rites. He broke his faith with God and favor the ways of other foreigners over the ones from Israel. The kingdom split in two, but all this was the effect of Solomon s betrayal. The ending of the first book of Kings could be considered as an analogy of how our life could fall apart like Israel, if we do not have absolute faithfulness to God, and let him be the center of our ... The base supports the emulsion, which consists of small silver halide crystals suspended in gelatin. The crystals are Silver Iodobromide (silver bromide with added silver iodide). (Earle L. Kitts) When the emulsion is struck by light, the silver halide is converted to solid silver. (Janice Clifton) A crystal absorbs a photon of light, with energy equal to Planck s constant times the frequency of the light, liberating an electron from the ion. This leads to the formation of a photoelectron and neutral bromine atom. (Earle L. Kitts) The photoelectron combines with a silver ion to form a neutral metallic silver atom. (Earle ... (Janice Clifton) The most common developing agents are phenidone and hydroquinone. The active agents have a high pH, causing the gelatin to swell and allowing for a more rapid penetration throughout the emulsion. (Earle L. Kitts) The bromide in the gelatin acts as a development restrainer, preventing the development of unexposed silver bromide grains that would cause fog. (Earle L. Kitts) Development is a chemical reaction, so time and temperature must be regulated. (Janice Clifton) After development, some photosensitive silver halide crystals remain. (Janice Clifton) A stop bath of Acetic acid neutralizes the developer with no effect on the silver halide. The developed negatives are treated with a fixer solution of high concentration sodium hyposulfite to dissolve the unused silver halide.(Earle L. Kitts)(Janice Clifton) Once the film is removed from the fixer, it can be exposed to regular light since only solid silver negative remains. A hypo cleaning agent is then used to neutralize fixer on the film. This step is optional however the alternative is to run the film under water for an hour as opposed to 6 minutes. Photoflo, a wetting agent, is then added to break down the surface tension of water droplets so the film dries spot free, similarly to dishwasher detergent with glass. (Janice ... Bus Transit And Mass Transit 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1General In urban areas due to expansion of cities and population growth the major problems which arise are more travel time and more travel cost. For Developing countries like India, China, Brazil etc. taking affordability and mobility into account the policy makers induced public transport system for movements like inter urban or intra urban. Various examples are BusTransit Mass Transit. Due to bigger city size and fixed routes of these systems its accessibility varies for different user. These predefined fixed routes do not take into account the whole catchment area from where the users are using. Among these users there are some users which use daily bases are known as commuters. Such commuters access/egress the transit system by a variety of modes such as by walking, bicycle, manual tricycle, motorized 2 3 wheeler, feeder bus services and cars. Each mode has its utility within certain distance range (Khistey and Sriraj 1996) . Increase in city size has reflected in the utility of various modes, utility of motorized vehicles have increased whereas the utility of non motorized have decreased. From socio economic point, these include loss of employment, slow elimination of environment friendly modes like bicycles, manual tricycles and walk and increase in population levels. Today was the day I learned that Tony Weston, a kid that I went to high school with, had committed suicide a month after our graduation. I am 28 years old now, so graduation was ten years ago. The teachers at my high school hated me. I showed no effort in anything that I did and I was extremely obnoxious in class. They wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible just like my parents. My dad was in the Navy so he wasn t home much. When he was, it was like our family were his men; he ordered us to do everything. He would always stare me down after he demanded something of me and I had to give the reply of, yes sir. My parents got a divorce while I was in high school and that s when my life took a turn for the worst. After graduation, I left town and headed for New York City to pursue a new life. I didn t learn what happened to Tony until today when I got a card in the mail from Easton High School in the rural town of Easton, New York. An invitation to the ten year reunion for my class. On the inside of the invitation listed all one hundred fifty or so names of our graduating class. I hadn t seen any of these people in ten years because I had never gone back to Easton since graduation day. My first reaction was that I was not going, so I threw the card in the trash. What were their standards of living and lifespans compared to Europe? The Mali empire was established in 1235. It was the largest and the richest empire in the African Middle Ages. During this time Malian emperors relied on a small central administration, which was primarily concerned with finances and justice. (Patterns of World History pg. 400) The empire financed itself through tributes and taxes, but their main source of income relied on trade. The Mali would often trade long distance through merchants and scholars. In Timbuktu, the Mali would produce or mine for salt, creating a Salt Trade Hub in Timbuktu. • 19. The Importance Of Physical Similarity An old saying states that birds of a feather flock together. It can be quite comforting to meet someone who is similar to yourself. Like minded individuals not only validate our beliefs about the world, but also reduce the risk of conflicts and disagreements (Barelds Barelds Dijkstra, 2007, p. 479). In fact, research has shown that people are more likely to be in relationships with others who are similar to themselves in terms of attitudes, values, social group memberships, and physical appearances than with dissimilar others (Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011, p. 879). Physical Similarity A study conducted by Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson (2011) examined how seating preferences are affected by physical similarity in strangers. The researchers proposed that people would sit closer to physically similar others even when those physical similarities are unrelated to important markers of social status, such as sex and race. The study states that without the opportunity to interact facilitated by physical proximity, a relationship is less likely to form (Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011, p. 879). Across 4 studies, it was found that people tend to sit closer to physically similar others than physically dissimilar others. Study 1 revealed significant aggregation in seating patterns on two easily observed characteristics: glasses wearing and sex. Seating arrangements at a Canadian university on campus computer lab with 31 seats was observed on 21 (non overlapping) occasions over 3 months. Using a seating diagram, the researcher recorded whether a person occupied each seat. In total, 356 individuals were observed; 23% were wearing glasses (N = 82) and 57.6% were women (N = 205). This shows that, as predicted, glasses wearers sat by other glasses wearers (and non glasses wearers by other non glasses wearers) more frequently than expected by chance alone. Study 2 replicated this finding with a wider variety of physical traits: race, sex, glasses wearing, hair length, and hair color. In the second study, 18 university classes (freshman and sophomore level) were observed. Three large classrooms at a Canadian university were chosen, and professors who taught courses in those classrooms were emailed for permission to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Feminism In Sesame Street Sesame Workshop s decision to incorporate a transgender Muppet on the show mirrors the gradual changes that have progressively taken place within the framework of feminism. The Eastern Kentucky University Women and Gender Studies Program defined the evolution of feminism as: Historically, feminism has evolved from the critical examination of inequality between the sexes with a more nuanced focus on the social and performative constructions of gender and sexuality (2017). In other words, the feminist establishment has transformed along with time to reflect the changes in society. Which perfectly makes sense! In order, for progress to occur, you must move along with the times, and Sesame Streethas done that. Thus, the show will continue to positively influence hundreds of American youth because they know that social evolution is the key to success! Similarly, Sesame Street touches on the complexities surrounding race. Segi is a black, female Muppet who made her debut in Season 42. This progression can be viewed as positive as it was a racially diversifying move. However, the character was not given a name until Season 45 (Muppet Wiki 2017). Therefore, I find the addition of the character to be an important aspect supporting racial equality, but the fact that she remained unnamed for three seasons seems to be rather counterproductive. Elizabeth Bennet Research Paper Elizabeth Bennet, a woman of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, was doomed to be forever tied to the expectations society had for women of the time. She was to be wed to a befitting suitor, and behave as a woman should. That being said, it becomes quite clear to the reader (along with the other characters) that Elizabeth couldn t care less of the expectations society had for her at least, far less than most women of her time did. Elizabeth, while tied to the society she was born into, did not let the whims of the populace dictate every move she made in her life, most specifically of how and when to be wed. The standards for men and women of the time between 1796 1813 dictated nearly every aspect of an individual s life. It told each person how to behave and how they will advance in society. The most important thing to a woman of this time was her own reputation. Her class and familial wealth were the main contributors to how others perceived her. It was best for a woman to marry well (wealthy, good breeding, good family background, etc.) to maintain a good and sturdy reputation. • 30. United States Logic Behind Multilateral Peace Building... What causes two groups from the same nation to engage in a bloody and lengthy civil war? Although greed and grievances are commonplace explanations, they alone cannot account for the duration and recurrence of intrastate war over the last half century. To properly understand this phenomenon, one must perceive the cause of domestic armed conflict as an instance of bargaining failure. While all three proximate causes of bargaining failure in civil warare exactly the same as those in international war, their situations are distinguished by the fact that the cause of a civil wars persistence is the same as it s initiation. I will argue that problems with credible commitment are the most profound obstacle in the resolution of civil conflict and are largely responsible for their recurrence and duration. In support, this essay will discuss the logic behind multilateral peace building strategies such as the utilization of peacekeeping forces and third party guarantees of ceasefire agreements. When conflict arises between independent states, multinational peacekeeping organizations such as the UN can impose extensive economic sanctions and deploy their military forces in order to end a war by vastly increasing its costs. Regulated by an international police force, states are more inclined to accept peace, bargain with their enemies, and stay loyal to their word. This is not the case with domestic disputes. Plutarch says how he showed the he was: capable of going through what the soldiers injured, his foresight. The former gave him considerable affection and loyalty from the troops , this loyalty lead to the soldiers writing back to Rome, stating that The African war could only be won if Marius was elected consol (Plutarch Marius 7) This shows that Marius must have excelled hugely at military process. With his first consulship he enrolled a large number of paupers, and slaves into the army (PLutrach Marius 9). This action is unpreceded and must have annoyed some. This shows that he thought of new ways to use the Roman armies. Which was basically taking the poor and training them. That training would appear to pay off. He got a triumph. It must have been quite a shock to the Romans in some ways that a new man who becomes consol comes into Rome celebrating a triumph. His parents had five children which included siblings Dane, Angelina, Milka and Marica, in the family. Tesla s father, Milutin Tesla, was a Serbian orthodox priest and a writer, and he pushed for his son to join the priesthood. While both men went on to continue developing sensational inventions, Edison is the man most credited in history books for his work. Tesla, on the other hand, was not an inventor seeking fame, but one who simply had a peculiar and uncanny view on the world. He was known to have outbursts of creative genius that led to days of non stop work, eventually resulting in his register(ing) over 700 patents worldwide. His most well known work revolved around the Alternating Current electrical theories. While this stood in direct opposition to the corporately backed efforts of Edison to promote a Direct Current network for electrical distribution, Tesla continued with the idea of transmitting electricity through the air, and free to all people. Edison scoffed at the idea, but even the newest research in the 21st century reveals that Tesla s notions are quite feasible. In the end, it is clear that his early education at home, his formal education on record, and his work with Edison all contributed to the foundation of Nikola Teslas broad range of work. The public perception of Tesla was quite positive during his productive years, even earning the financial backing of J. Pierpont Morgan for a while . It offers their customers unbeatable prices that their competitors find difficult to challenge. But in providing those great deals it deducts from other sources. Walmart directly imports from Asia and in turn Asia produces cheaply made items and sells to Walmart for a low cost. Thus, creating a scarce number of jobs available for American workers. After searching and thinking for a while I picked the movie Bend it Like Beckham, since a lot of elements in this movie are applicable on my own life and I really could relate to one of the characters in the movie. As the title of the movie already implies, it is about football and takes place in England. Jesminder is a Sikh, Indian girl from a very traditional Indian family. And without their knowledge of my sexuality, quite often people assumed I was a lesbian because I played football. Without knowing any axes of my life, I was automatically put in a lower position, just because I am a girl who played football. This also is seen in the movie. Jules has short hair, wears baggy clothes and plays football, and her mother overhears a conversation between Jules and Jess about love, but she misinterprets it and thinks Jules is gay. The mother is very upset about her daughter being gay and when Jules tells she is not gay, the mother is very relieved and then says there is nothing wrong with being gay. Even though she says that, she is still happy her own daughter is in fact not a lesbian. This shows certain stereotypes towards girls that play football, have short hair and wear baggy clothes. Football is such a gendered sport that it automatically leads to sexism, thinking girls who play football must be lesbian because they play a men s sport. Lesbianism is also seen as something less good than being straight, seeing the mother is relieved her daughter is not a lesbian. This was clearly evident because Britain was dedicated to a full forced takeover versus Britain that sent only what they could spare. The British had a fleet of ships in their Royal Navy that was a key cog in taking over New France. The British used these ships to capture French ships sent from France with supplies from entering port. As a result, Louisbourg was the first domino to fall. In 1758, Louisbourg witnessed this massive fleet of ships enter the bay and initiate an all out assault on the fortress. Soldiers under the command of General Amherst and James Wolfe proceeded with the attack but took heavy artillery fire upon their arrival at shore. It was tall and big, and very wise, but many years had past since anyone came to the beautiful valley. The birds and the butterflies came and went, and the rain tree was lonely. One day, a little squirrel came to the valley to pick some nuts, and when it ran under the big rain tree, a lily seed dropped out of its furry tail. After a few days, a little lily popped up from under the big rain tree. It was small and weak, and it would die soon because the big rain tree took away all the food and water. Every time the rain came, or the sun shone, the little lily would stretch its toes, or its neck, to get as much food and water as possible, but every time, the big rain tree would suck up everything. Soon enough, the little lily was getting weaker, so it decided to set up a partnership with the big rain tree. One day, it spoke up. Hello sir, may I have a minute? • 39. The Effect Of Endometriosis On Vitro Fertilization The Effect of Endometriosis on In Vitro Fertilization By: Brittany Pangilinan Abstract The success of in vitro fertilization treatment is compromised when a patient is suffering from endometriosis. Endometriosis creates scar tissue and adhesions on the women s ovaries and other reproductive structures preventing the joining of the egg and sperm during fertilization. In vitro fertilization was created in 1977 to manually join the egg and sperm in hope of fertilization in patients who cannot conceive on their own. Researchers have found a strong correlation between the severity of the condition and the patient s success in IVF treatment. The future in IVF and endometriosis research can soon uncover the cause of endometriosis, further revealing different modes of alternatives in reproduction. Literature Review Endometriosis occurs when the endometrial tissue, normally located inside the uterus, lines the outside. The condition most commonly affects the ovaries and peritoneum, and affects approximately 10% of women in the United States (Barnhart et. el. 2002). The misplaced endometrial tissue continues to act as it would in the usual situation; the tissue thickens, breaks down, and bleeds with the menstrual cycle. Since there is no exit path for the tissue to leave the body, the tissue becomes trapped inside the abdomen, causing severe pain (Mayo Clinic, 2013). When the ovaries are affected from endometriosis, cysts called endometriomas may form. The surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Madness In Euripides The Bacchae The Bacchae by Greek playwright Euripides premiered in approximately 405 B.C. The play tells the story of Dionysus taking out revenge of the royal family of Cadmus for their rejection of his mother and of his religion. Euripides Dionysus is extremely different from the one that we thought we knew. We think of Dionysusas the god of wine, theatre, and religious ecstasy. In this play, we are reminded that Dionysus is also the god of madness. One thing this play also reminds us is that he is a god and like all the other gods he cares little for the mortals and does whatever he wants to do to them no matter what happens to him. One way that he does this is by bringing out the unconscience desires that the Greeks would have feared. Tiresias, the seer, says For you are sick, possessed by madness so perverse, no drug can cure, no madness can undo (537 538). In this quote, Tiresias is telling Pentheus that he is mad for rejecting Dionysus. He is so mad in this that madness wouldn t even cure him. In this moment, Tiresias is saying that the cure, which would be to worship Dionysus, is not enough to cure his madness. Tiresias basically calls Dionysus madness. Suffering is a universal condition that the characters in the play must deal with. Since the day Polyneices and Eteokles died, Ismene suffers by not being capable of having emotions. She says to Antigone: Nothing makes me happy, nothing hurts me anymore (Sophocles 22). The loss of loved ones can cause one to suffer but to not honor those who died can cause a vast amount of distress. Because Eteokles was honorably buried and Polyneices was not, Antigone suffered for her brother; the guilt built every second he remained unburied. She does not regret burying her brother by saying, But if I had let my own brother stay unburied/I would have suffered all the pain I do not feel now (Sophocles 572 3). She would rather bury her brother and go against the state than live her life in pain. She is independent in her decision because she would is willing to suffer her own death so she won t suffer her brother s death any longer: I m ready to suffer for it and to die. /Let me. No suffering could be so terrible as to die for nothing (Sophocles 120 3). She is conveying that no matter what, she will suffer. If she does nothing for her brother she will suffer and if she does, she will suffer the death penalty. It is better, she concludes, to suffer and die out of loyalty to her own family. Ethnic Joke In The Workplace If I were in this given situation, as soon as I looked up and saw the face of the person whose group has been slandered was hurt, I would immediately feel uncomfortable, frustrated, and disappointed. I would feel uncomfortable because at that given moment I would be placed in an awkward situation of knowing someone else is wrong, yet not knowing the correct thing to do or say to fix the situation. I would be frustrated with the individuals who broadcasted the ethnic joke within a diverse group of people. Lastly, I would feel disappointed that someone would make an ethnic joke in the work environment, especially if the organization valued making their employees feel comfortable. • 51. Perception And Perception Of Color Perception of Color What if I told you that my red was different from your red? The first thing you might wonder is how I could possibly know this or you may even want to see evidence to support my claim. However, experts have shown several different ways to convey that we do, in fact, perceive colors differently. Few things have been proven in distinguishing perception, but there are copious amounts of evidence suggesting that we perceive color differently because of our brains, past experiences, and our genetics. Perception is the state of being or process of becoming aware of something through the senses. In addition to the five senses, perception also includes proprioception, which allows people to detect the position of one s body. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain starts to determine a color once the signal reaches the retina. The signal is then analyzed by nerve cells and compared by neighboring cones and they calculate whether the light is more blue yellow or red green. After that, the colors are divided into several pathways in the brain where they are processed and identified. Recent evidence has come to show that the processing systems in our brains are also perceptual systems, and that color is processed before motion. This means that you are able to identify the color of a movement, before the movement itself (webexhibits.org). For visual processing to grow and develop, you need to have several visual experiences during critical periods after birth. This makes it exceptionally difficult for people who are born blind who later have their vision restored to perform basic functions. In an experiment that was conducted with monkeys, it was suggested that color perceptions comes from some of the experiences we ve had in the world. The scientists who conducted the experiment found male squirrel monkeys to be the best independent variable because they have a form of red green color blindness, which is the most common form of color blindness in humans. The blindness primarily afflicts males because the genes encoding red and green receptors are located on the X chromosome, of which men only have one. Women have two X chromosomes, and a normal gene can often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Essay on Comparing Television Documentaries and Their... Comparing Television Documentaries and Their Gratifications In this Essay I am going to watch four different documentaries, all with different topics. I will analyse them and then work out how they offer gratifications to the audiences. I will write about what affect they have and why they are used. I watched four different documentaries with four different topics: Historical (Pirates The Golden Age), Mystery (Vanished The plane that disappeared), Nature (Blue Planet) and horror / mystery (The Burkitsville Seven). All are very successful and have many different ways in which they individually gratify the audience and explain the set topic. First I will explain about how the documentaries are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Vanished documentary has a split narrativestructure skipping from scenes of the airplane to when the soldiers are sent up on the investigation this is the only documentary, which is structured this way and works very well it bounces back and forth in time. This technique is used because it builds a suspense for the viewer and just a crucial moment is near it will switch so the viewer will continue watching until it switches back again to the main screen, it gratifies the audience when it is shown again. The Blue Planet has a very linear structure like the Burkitsville Seven (the beginning of the documentary is shallow and it ends up at the bottom of the ocean) but at the end they have a sub section demonstrating how the produced the documentary and proving its reality, this is a form of self reflexive filming. They do not need to build suspense because it is not that genre of documentary. The Pirate documentary as well as the Burkitsville Seven and the Blue Planet happens periodically but this differs as there is a much larger timescale instead of one main focus the are many sub plots about the different pirates of the time, this gratifies the audience as it uses a wide range of stories and each one is different and has a wide range of events so the viewer watches for the range of events.
