INTRODUCTION:-
 WHAT IS POLLUTION?
The release of pollutants into the global environment is called pollution.
Pollutants can come from both humans and nature , such as garbage and
volcanic ash.
Pollution comes in many forms including air pollution ,water pollution
,and noise pollution .
Therefore everyone should be aware of pollution and its effects and how to
successfully reduce it .
Just like a balanced diet our environment requires a balanced mixture of all
substances.
Any substance above that pollutes the environment.
TYPES OF POLLUTION:-
There are four types of pollution :
AIR POLLUTION
WATER POLLUTION
NOISE POLLUTION
SOIL POLLUTION
Now let us discuss about these types of pollution in detail.
1.AIR POLLUTION:-
INTRODUCTION:-
Air pollution happens when dangerous or excessive amounts of pollutants are
released into the environment .
Such as, smokes, hazardous gases from industry , and oxides produced from cars
the burning of solid wastes etc.
A realistic example of air pollution is the pollution causes by fire crackers following
Diwali.
Now-a-days , a toxic and heavy gases are releasing from industries .
Industrialisation and modernization are to be blamed for the present situation of
air pollution.
Industries such as ,Thermal power plants, cement , steel ,mines, emit chemical
pollutants into the air and that causes air pollution.
EFFECTS ON HUMANS:-
People experience a wide range of health effects from being exposed to air
pollution.
Effects can be broken down into two types.
1. Long-term effects.
2.Short-term effects.
LONG -TERM EFFECTS:-
Long term effects of air pollution can last for years or for an entire lifetime.
They can even lead to a person’s death.
Long-term health effects from air pollution include heart diseases, lung
cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema.
Release of dust from the asbestos industry causes asbestosis .
Recent studies have shown that air pollutants also cause birth effects .
Air pollution can also cause long term damage to people’s nerves , brain ,
kidneys, and other organs .
SHORT-TERM EFFECTS:-
Short- term effects of air pollution are temporary that include illness, such
as pneumonia and bronchitis .
 They also include discomfort such as irritation to the nose , eyes , throat
and skin
Air pollution can also cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea.
Bad odours from factories , garbage, or sewer systems are also considered
as air pollution too.
These odours are less serious but still unpleasant .
EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT :-
Like people, environment also facing a major problem with respect to
pollution.
Air pollution particles eventually fall back to Earth.
This can kill crops or reduce their yield it can also kill young trees and
other plants.
Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide particles in the air can create acid rain
when they mix with water and oxygen in the atmosphere.
When acid rain falls to Earth, it damages plants by changing soil
composition.
It also degrades water quality in rivers , lakes and streams ; damages crops
and can cause buildings and monuments to decay .
2.WATER POLLUTION:-
INTRODUCTION:-
 Water pollution is a significant problem for humans right now.
Water is being contaminated by various foreign matters including
sewage waste ,
pesticides , home and agriculture trash, industrial or factory waste and
other wastes.
Water is thus losing its quality.
Nearly 80% of wastages from cities and town in India is diverted to
rivers .
In this way , rivers are getting polluted .
EFFECTS ON HUMANS :-
Water is becoming unfit for usage by humans beings.
Sewage water is also directed into the rivers which cause development of
various bacteria in the water making them even not suitable for bathing.
 The availability of drinkable water is significantly impacted .
Contaminated water and poor sanitation causes skin diseases , cholera,
diarrhoea , and typhoid fever to humans .
Recent studies have shown that more than 50 kinds of diseases are caused
by poor drinking water quality.
According to WHO survey about 2 billion have no option but to drink the
contaminated water.
EFFECTS OF THE BIODIVERSITY:-
Water pollution causes the decrease of oxygen content in water which leads
to the death of aquatic animals.
And that impacts on the Biodiversity .It leads to destruction of biodiversity
due to the proliferation of phytoplankton in lakes.
And the major impact is contamination of the food chain .
Due to water pollution the whole food chain is impacted as water is the
main use of livestock farming, and agriculture can introduce toxins into
foods.
Which are harmful to our health when we are eaten .
According to UN about 1000 children die per day due to diarrhoeal
diseases.
3.NOISE POLLUTION:-
INTRODUCTION:-
The lighting of fireworks , running of industries and the playing of music
over
loud speakers especially during festival season all contribute to noise
pollution.
If it isn’t controlled, it may also have an impact on how the brain functions .
Due to high volume of vehicles on road , noise pollution is increasing.
This is concerning for people who live in cities and highways .
Humans who are exposed to noise pollution will develop high BP, stress,
hearing loss , anxiety and aggression.
Though noise pollution is a major issue, no laws are existing in many cities
of the world to control it .
EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION :-
Some of the most prevalent elements brought on by noise pollution include the
following :-
Headaches
The issue with reasoning and changing behaviour.
Elevated blood pressure
And hearing loss.
Anxiety and stress etc…
4. SIOL POLLUTION:-
INTRODUCTION:-
A sizable fraction of the Indian population works in agriculture sector .
As apart of farming , farmers use a range of fertilizers , herbicides , and
other chemical substances.
This further contaminates the soil and it leads to loss of fertility in soil
which is unsuitable for growing crops .
In addition to this soil pollution happens when authorities dump
household or commercial trash on the ground .
As a result mosquito reproduction is encouraged , which promotes the
spread of diseases like dengue and malaria.
EFFECTS OF SOIL POLLUTION :-
Soil is the foundation of the earth on which we walk , travel, grow
vegetables and grains and nourish us .
But chemical farming degrades soil quality , and many hazardous
substances come into contact with our body.
And this finally causes various skin diseases which are unavoidable.
The most common illness caused by soil contamination are :-
1. Blood cancer
2.Liver and kidney failure
3.Loss of fertility
METHODS TO REDUCE POLLUTION:-
More trees should be planted.
Food should be consumed in biodegradable containers.
Avoid disposing of industrial trash in waterways such as rivers , lakes etc.
Use of electric vehicles or cycles.
Reduce the use od detergents.
Reduce the usage of single use plastic .
Utilization of renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
Filter the waste water before discharging it industry.
CONCLUSION :-
So far now we have discussed about the pollution in India and how it
effects the humans and biodiversity.
So by taking the points into consideration we have to follow some steps :-
Reducing the use of plastic .
Planting more and more trees as possible .
Use of electricity instead of fuels etc..
If we follow this steps the pollution may be under some control.
