2. Air pollution is the contamination of air
due to the presence of substances in
the atmosphere that are harmful to
the health of humans and other living
being, or cause damage to
the climate or to materials
Air pollution can cause diseases,
allergies, and even death to humans; it
can also cause harm to other living
organisms such as animals and food
crops,
3. • Growing evidence suggests that air pollution
exposure may be associated with reduced IQ
scores, impaired cognition, increased risk for
psychiatric disorders
• Overall, air pollution causes the deaths of
around 7 million people worldwide each
year, and is the world's largest single
environmental health risk.
4. These acids fall to the Earth either as wet
precipitation or dry precipitation. Some are carried
by the wind, sometimes hundreds of miles.
In the environment, acid rain damages trees and
causes soils and water bodies to acidify, making
the water unsuitable for some fish and other
wildlife.
5. • Toxic pollutants in the air, or
deposited on soils or surface
waters, can impact wildlife in a
number of ways.
• Like humans, animals can
experience health problems if
they are exposed to sufficient
concentrations of air toxics
over time.
• Studies show that air toxics are
contributing to birth defects,
reproductive failure, and
disease in animals.
6. • Ozone forms a layer that protects life on earth
from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
• Thinning of the protective ozone layer can
cause increased amounts of UV radiation to
reach the Earth, which can lead to more cases
of skin cancer, cataracts, and impaired
immune systems.
7. • Can lead to reductions in
agricultural crop and
commercial forest yields,
reduced growth and
survivability of tree seedlings,
and increased plant
susceptibility to disease, pests
and other environmental
stresses .
• Crop and forest damage can
also result from acid rain and
from increased UV radiation
caused by ozone depletion.
8. • The Earth's atmosphere contains a
delicate balance of naturally
occurring gases that trap some of
the sun's heat near the Earth's
surface.
9. • Air pollution is one of the
world’s largest health and
environmental problems.
• Now I will tell you a few of the
countries with the most air
pollution.
10. • Air pollution is a growing environmental
problem in most major cities of Pakistan.
According to a World Bank report,
"Karachi's urban air pollution is among
the most severe in the world and it
engenders significant damages to human
health and the economy".
11. • Air pollution in India is a serious health
issue. .
• As per a study based on 2016 data, at least
140 million people in India breathe air that
is 10 times or more over the WHO safe
limit and 13 of the world's 20 cities with the
highest annual levels of air pollution are in
India.
