The Prayer of Azariah and the accompanying Song of the Three Young Men form part of chapter three and embellish the story of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, three young Jewish men who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace for defying Nebuchadrezzar’s order to worship an idol.
Book of Baruch, ancient text purportedly written by Baruch, secretary and friend of Jeremiah, the Old Testament prophet. The text is still extant in Greek and in several translations from Greek into Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopic, and other languages. The Book of Baruch is apocryphal to the Hebrew and Protestant canons but was incorporated in the Septuagint and was included in the Old Testament for Roman Catholics. The work is a compilation of several authors and is the only work among the apocrypha that was consciously modeled after the prophetic writings of the Old Testament.
2nd Maccabees is a deuterocanonical book which recounts the persecution of Jews under King Antiochus IV Epiphanes and the Maccabean Revolt against him. Painting by Pierre Paul Rubens, 1634.
The Book of Habakkuk is the eighth book of the 12 minor prophets of the Bible. It is attributed to the prophet Habakkuk, and was probably composed in the late 7th century BC. The original text was written in the Hebrew language.
2 Esdras is an apocalyptic book in some English versions of the Bible. Tradition ascribes it to Ezra, a scribe and priest of the fifth century BC, but scholarship places its composition between 70 and 218 AD.
1 Esdras is the ancient Greek Septuagint version of the biblical Book of Ezra in use within the early church, and among many modern Christians with varying degrees of canonicity. 1 Esdras is substantially similar to the standard Hebrew version of Ezra–Nehemiah, with the passages specific to the career of Nehemiah removed or re-attributed to Ezra, and some additional material.

It consists of ethical teachings, from approximately 200 to 175 BCE, written by the Judahite scribe Ben Sira of Jerusalem, on the inspiration of his father Joshua son of Sirach. 1.
2. ROZDZIAŁ 1
1 I szli pośród ognia, wielbiąc Boga i
błogosławiąc Pana.
2 Wtedy Azariasz wstał i modlił się w ten
sposób; i otworzywszy usta w środku ognia,
rzekł:
3 Błogosławiony jesteś, Panie, Boże naszych
ojców. Twoje imię jest godne chwały i
chwały na wieki.
4 Bo jesteś sprawiedliwy we wszystkim, co
nam uczyniłeś; zaiste, wszystkie twoje dzieła
są prawdziwe, twoje drogi są proste i
wszystkie twoje sądy są prawdziwe.
5 We wszystkim, co sprowadziłeś na nas i na
święte miasto naszych ojców, Jeruzalem,
wykonałeś prawdziwy sąd, bo według prawdy
i sądu sprowadziłeś to wszystko na nas z
powodu naszych grzechów.
6 Bo zgrzeszyliśmy i popełniliśmy
nieprawość, odchodząc od ciebie.
7 We wszystkim zgrzeszyliśmy i nie byliśmy
posłuszni przykazaniom twoim, i nie
przestrzegaliśmy ich, ani nie czyniliśmy, jak
nam nakazałeś, aby było nam dobrze.
8 Dlatego wszystko, co na nas sprowadziłeś i
wszystko, co nam uczyniłeś, uczyniłeś
zgodnie z prawdą.
9 I wydałeś nas w ręce bezbożnych wrogów,
najbardziej znienawidzonych porzucaczy
Boga, i króla niesprawiedliwego, i najbardziej
niegodziwego na całym świecie.
10 A teraz nie możemy otworzyć ust, staliśmy
się wstydem i pośmiewiskiem dla Twoich
sług; i tym, którzy Cię czczą.
11 Nie wydawaj nas jednak całkowicie przez
wzgląd na Twoje imię i nie zrywaj
przymierza swego.
12 I nie pozwól, aby miłosierdzie twoje
odeszło od nas przez wzgląd na umiłowanego
twego Abrahama, przez wzgląd na sługę
twego Izaaka i przez wzgląd na świętego
Izraela twego;
13 Do których powiedziałeś i obiecałeś, że
rozmnożysz ich potomstwo jak gwiazdy na
niebie i jak piasek leżący na brzegu morskim.
14 Bo my, Panie, staliśmy się mniejsi niż
jakikolwiek naród i jesteśmy trzymani pod
tym dniem na całym świecie z powodu
naszych grzechów.
15 Nie ma w tym czasie księcia ani proroka,
ani wodza, ani całopalenia, ani ofiary, ani
ofiary, ani kadzidła, ani miejsca, aby przed
tobą ofiarować i znaleźć miłosierdzie.
16 Jednakże ze skruszonym sercem i
pokornym duchem dajmy się przyjąć.
17 Jak całopalenia baranów i wołów, i jak
dziesięć tysięcy tłustych jagniąt, tak niech
nasza ofiara będzie dzisiaj przed tobą i spraw,
według miłosierdzia swego i według mnóstwa
miłosierdzia swego.
20 I nas wybaw według cudów Twoich i daj
chwałę imieniu Twojemu, Panie. I niech się
zawstydzą wszyscy, którzy krzywdzą sług
Twoich;
21 I niech się zawstydzą w całej swojej mocy
i mocy, i niech ich siła zostanie złamana;
22 I niech wiedzą, że Ty jesteś Bogiem,
Bogiem jedynym i chwalebnym nad całym
światem.
23 A słudzy królewscy, którzy je włożyli, nie
przestawali rozpalać pieca kalafonią, smołą,
pakem i drwem;
24 I płomień wychodził ponad piec na
czterdzieści dziewięć łokci.
25 I przeszedł, i spalił Chaldejczyków,
których spotkał w piecu.
26 Ale anioł Pański zszedł do pieca wraz z
Azariaszem i jego towarzyszami i zgasił
płomień ognia z pieca;
27 I uczynili środek pieca jakby wilgotnym,
świszczącym wiatrem, tak że ogień w ogóle
ich nie dotknął i nie szkodził im ani nie
niepokoił.
28 A ci trzej jakby z jednych ust chwalili,
wysławiali i błogosławili Boga w piecu,
mówiąc:
3. 29 Błogosławiony jesteś, Panie, Boże naszych
ojców, i chwalony i wywyższony na wieki.
30 I błogosławione jest Twoje chwalebne i
święte imię, i niech będzie chwalone i
wywyższone na wieki.
31 Błogosławiony jesteś w świątyni Twojej
świętej chwały i bądź chwalony i wysławiany
nade wszystko na wieki.
32 Błogosławiony jesteś, który patrzysz na
głębiny i siedzisz na Cherubach, i jesteś
chwalony i wywyższony na wieki.
33 Błogosławiony jesteś na tronie chwały
Twojego królestwa i bądź chwalony i
wysławiany nade wszystko na wieki.
34 Błogosławiony jesteś na sklepieniu nieba,
