A pole mounted substation is an outdoor electrical equipment that steps down high voltage power for distribution to residential and commercial customers. It connects to an 11kV line through a gang isolator and horn gap fuses. A transformer then steps down the voltage to 415V for customers. An oil circuit breaker automatically isolates the transformer from customers in the event of a fault. Pole mounted substations are generally used for transformer capacities up to 200kVA and provide power for applications like private homes, agriculture, wind farms, and rural electrification.
