7. Life Cycle
Poison Dart Frogs have the same life cycle as any
ordinary frog but the parents raise them differently.
First the mother lays her eggs under a leaf or in hole
beneath the ground. The male fertilizes and guards
them from predators until they hatch into tadpoles.
Once they are tadpoles they wiggle onto their mothers
back, she then carries them to a bromeliad which is a
small plant filled with water. The mother puts each
tadpole into their own bromeliad. The father guards
them for 6-8 weeks. The tadpoles eat algae, mosquito
larvae and unfertilized eggs that the mother brings to
them. After 6-8 weeks the tadpoles grow legs and
come out of their bromeliad.
