Ladybird Life CycleEggs are laid and they hatch in 3-7 days. Next is thelarval stage till 21 days. Then it’s the pupae stage for5-7 days. After that it turns into an adult ladybird.
LifeLadybirds live in groups but not in a family group. Theylive near each other so they can mate. Several ladybirdswill often live together on the same plant.
LifeLadybirds are active in the day. Female ladybirdsnormally search for a good safety place to lay her eggs &also a place where there is food for the small tinyladybirds. Male ones look for yummy food.
MovementLadybirds use their legs to move. Even if their legs aresmall for it’s body. Good thing it is small because itwon’t get crunched. They also have spotty wings to fly.
FoodLadybirds eat aphids. Some ladybirds can eat 40 aphidsin a day. Only a few ladybirds eat plants & mildew, whichis a plant disease. Some eat fruit too.
Hibernating LadybirdsSome ladybirds hibernate during winter, which meansthey sleep for a long time. Some hibernate in largegroups and some in small groups. They eat a lot of foodduring Summer so they could stay alive in Winter.
PredatorsLadybirds also have dangerous predators. Spiders, birds ,even other insects are predators if food runs out.
ProtectThey protect themselves by pretending to be dead orusing their bright colors to warn the predators that ithas a bad taste or squirt out bad-tasting liquid.
Pest LadybirdsSome species of ladybirds are pest ladybirds, means theymake problems for humans by coming into their houses.Harlequin ladybirds are a pest.
