5. Interesting facts about Zebra No two Zebras have the same stripes. Zebras use their stripes to blend in together and look like one large zebra to avoid danger Zebras can see in the day and night. A kick from a zebra can be fatal. Zebras bite and kick when they are being attacked. Zebras sleep standing up! They will only sleep when neighbors are around to warn them of predators. If there are no neighbors present in the area one member of the zebra family will remain awake to stand watch while the others sleep. Zebras are capable of running up to 40 miles per hour. The average lifespan of zebras are 20 to 30 years in the wild although they may live up to 40 years in captivity.

10. Butterfly *The top butterfly flight speed is 12 miles per hour. *Butterflies cannot fly if their body temperature is less than 86 degrees. *Many insects can carry 50 times their own body weight. This would be like an adult person lifting two heavy cars full of people. *Most insects are beneficial to people because they eat other insects, pollinate crops, are food for other animals, make products we use (like honey and silk) or have medical uses. *Butterflies and insects have their skeletons on the outside of their bodies, called the exoskeleton. This protects the insect and keeps water inside their bodies so they don’t dry out. *Antarctica is the only continent where butterflys and moths have not been found *The original name for the butterfly was the ‘flutterby.’

11. How Butterflies Eat They use their long tongue, called a proboscis, to drink nectar. The proboscis is long, and looks like a drinking straw. It curls up (like a noisemaker) when it is not being used. Butterflies may also sometimes drink tree sap, juice from rotting fruit, water from damp patches, pollen and dung. Butterflies need sodium (it is vital for reproduction) and they will usually get that nutrient from dung and rotted fruit. Caterpillars, however, do eat leaves. Butterflies live almost everywhere!

13. Rhinos live in Grasslands, Savannas Tropical Bush lands 0f Africa and Asia. and BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the closest relatives to the Rhino are the <Tapir and the Horse.> Rhinos eat

14. Camel Camels are about 7 feet tall. They weigh up to 1500 lbs They live 40 to 50 years Camels can go for over a week without water and for months without food. They have been known to drink as much as 30 gallons (135 liters) of water in as little as 13 minutes. They can run 40mph for a little while and for a long time at 25 mph.

15. Camels Eat Camels eat a wide variety of plants over expansive home ranges. They have leathery mouths and can eat practically any vegetation including thorns, dry vegetation and salt bush that other mammals avoid. Just about all vegetation available in the desert.

17. Red Kangaroo The Red Kangaroo is the largest living marsupial and can grow to almost 7 feet tall! It weighs up to 200 pounds Top speed: close to 40 miles per hour. A Red Kangaroo can leap 25 feet far and 10 feet high! Kangaroos are nocturnal meaning they move about and looking for food at night time. Some are active during the early morning or late evening hours. Few are active during the day. Most kangaroos spend the day resting in the shade. Kangaroos live in &quot;mobs&quot; of about ten individuals, males and females. All marsupials have a pouch in which their young live, drink milk and develop until they are big enough to face the world. Baby Kangaroos are called Joeys.

18. Live Eat Relatives All kangaroos are herbivores. The grazers or browsers eat only plant matter. Kangaroo species that are adapted to the drier regions need very little water. Red Kangaroos can go without water altogether if there is fresh green grass available. Opossum / Possum Wallaby Kangaroos live different climates across Australia and Papua New Guinea. Kangaroos can live in arid or cold conditions, in rainforests or deserts. They live on rocky mountains, in desert plains or in the rainforest.

Panda Adult Pandas grow to be about 5-6 feet high They will whey up to 276 pounds and males weighing 10% to 20% more than females With few other enemies other than people the lifespan of a wild Panda is about 25 years or more. The Panda was believed to have magical powers that could ward off natural disasters and evil spirits. Pandas were even kept as pets by Chinese Emperors. Giant pandas are one of the four bear species who do not hibernate. Pandas are almost becoming extinct. They are endangered because people are cutting down the bamboo that pandas eat to make farms. Pandas are pink when they are born.

23. Iguanas Iguanas eat plants, Iguanas have been known to eat meat but they shouldn’t because they do not digest it well. You can train an iguana to do all kinds of cool tricks, but watch out for that tail it will WHACK you if you are not careful! Some Iguanas grow to be SIX feet long! Iguanas are related to all small lizards, since it is a lizard itself, that should not be too hard to remember 

25. Eat Live Relatives Woodpecker American barbet The Toucan lives in the edges of dense rainforests; but, some species do appear to have adapted to nesting in open areas such as savannahs, plantations, woodlands and light tree coverage areas.

27. The Venus flytrap grows in the wild only in North and South Carolina in the United States, specifically within a 100 mile radius of Wilmington, North Carolina. From here it has been taken and grown in locations all over the world. It grows well in marshy wetlands such as bogs and wet savannahs . Venus Flytraps are plants that are carnivorous meaning they eat meat!

Gorillas Gorillas are the largest of all the great apes Gorillas are vegetarian; they eat fruits, leaves, shoots They cannot swim but sometimes wade into swamps to feed on aquatic plants Like humans, gorillas have two legs and two arms, 10 fingers and 10 toes, small ears on the side of the head, forward-looking eyes and 32 teeth. Unlike us, their arms are longer and more muscular than their legs, and their big toes look like thumbs.
