Influence Through Preparedness and Tangible TakeawaysJan Terkelsen
Today we’re sharing insights about the benefits of preparing tangible takeaways before heading into an exchange with a team member (or a colleague for that matter). We’ve recently come across several situations where we’ve helped leaders prepare for a variety of responses heading into a conversation. Invariably we’ve found that presenting visual materials or specific evidence to back up points or demonstrate intent has successfully influenced outcomes.

Editor's Notes
Hello and thank you for joining this GreenBusinessOwner e-Tool tutorial on "Podcasting Essentials For Small Green Businesses" My name is Nayelli Gonzalez; I'm a Marketing Associate here at Green Business Owner--and I'll walk you through a step-by-step guide of how to create your own podcast to help you grow your green business. This video tutorial is based on an e-Tool of the same name, which is available at the GBO store online.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
We'll begin by reviewing the hardware and software equipment that you'll need to create your own podcast. We include a materials checklist and detail why you need certain equipment. Then, we'll provide an overview of how to use GarageBand to record your audio broadcast, and how to create an RSS Feed and post your podcast onto iTunes.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
You don’t have to be a professional disc jockey anymore to have your own radio show. Today’s technology allows anyone with a computer and an internet connection to broadcast their message to the world. And it’s never been more important to spread messages about green business. Do you want to broadcast your green message? Now is the time.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
You may be starting an environmentally friendly or socially responsible business, and you want to let people around the world know about it. As a green business, you have a story that people want to hear. Podcasting allows you to market your small green business to new audiences and build your brand through online media.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
Before you start your podcast recording, you'll need to have all the right materials.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
You'll need
A Computer
High-speed internet Connection
An External microphone
GarageBand software
An RSS Feed
And an iTunes account & the iTunes software
If you are not a Mac user, the could use Audacity instead of GarageBand; otherwise, all other equipment will remain the same. Also, you may want to use your built-in computer microphone to record your podcast instead of purchasing an external microphone. External microphones provide optimal audio clarity, but are not required.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
Once you have all the necessary equipment, you can then begin the recording process.
[CHANGE SLIDE]
If you have a Mac, recording can be done using the GarageBand software which should already come with your computer. Speak into the microphone and create your recording in GarageBand. This program will help you edit your audio to create a crisp, professional podcast. What you see on your screen is a snapshot of what your GarageBand window may look like after you record your audio:
[CHANGE SLIDE]
Once you have a recording that you want to publish, save the file as an MP3 and you can then publish it on iTunes
[CHANGE SLIDE]
You'll first need to create an RSS feed of your audio recording. You may upload your MP3 file to a host website that will allow you to download your file and create an HTTP protocol, or a URL link
[CHANGE SLIDE]
Once you have an RSS Feed (a URL link) set up, you can submit that Podcast Feed URL to iTunes. The following is a snapshot of what this process looks like:
Once your podcast is accepted into the iTunes Directory, your podcast will be available for download to anyone who has an iTunes account. And you could potentially reach millions of people through iTunes!
So what are you waiting for? Go record your green business podcast now!
[CHANGE SLIDE]
So with that, it's time to wrap up this video tutorial. As I mentioned earlier, this tutorial is a just a snapshot of what you can find online. For more specific information and a more detailed step-by-step guide on Podcasting for Your Small Green Business, please visit the GBO Store e-Tool page at greenbusinessowner.com
[CHANGE SLIDE]
THANK YOU for your time and good luck podcasting your green message!
