The Big Migration: How Cerner Moved From Confluence 3.5 to 5.8

By the time Confluence 5.8 was released they had a lot of work to do to upgrade. This helped them create a disaster recovery instance, which is a key component for controlled documentation. Self-Serve Marketing at VMware with Request Portals

The digital marketing organization at VMware recently transformed the way it does business by migrating to a new tracking tool for all incoming requests. The team is responsible for all of VMWare.com, which is available in 13 languages, 40 countries, and produces over 20K unique pageviews in addition to other microsites. These sites support over 6 million unique monthly visitors worldwide, so it was no small task to make this change. The team chose JIRA Service Desk Cloud with Service Desk to fill the need. Digital Marketing supports the entire marketing organization of 600 people. By providing a simple self-serve submission method, automatic routing, and clear channels of communication the team was able to increase their capacity by 450% (from 100 to 900 monthly requests) and decrease their SLAs by 58% (shaving off 4 days). Jira & Ansible: Streamlining Jira Server Administration for the Enterprise

Their environment had hundreds of orphaned workflows, screens, and schemes with very little oversight into who was doing what with their Jira Server instance. Their team turned to Ansible to empower Yelp's engineers to create and archive projects, update categories, project leads, keys, and archive projects without having access to administrative rights and sensitive functions. ABSTRACT Logging user activities is essential to data analysis for internet products and services. Twitter has built a unified logging infrastructure that captures user activities across all clients it owns, making it one of the largest datasets in the organization. This paper describes challenges and opportunities in applying information visualization to log analysis at this massive scale, and shows how various visualization techniques can be adapted to help data scientists extract insights. In particular, we focus on two scenarios:\ (1) monitoring and exploring a large collection of log events, and (2) performing visual funnel analysis on log data with tens of thousands of event types. Two interactive visualizations were developed for these purposes: we discuss design choices and the implementation of these systems, along with case studies of how they are being used in day-to-day operations at Twitter.

Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.
