Magazine Pitch
The Drop
Working Title
The working title of my magazine is The Drop as it is about Dance and
EDM music and it includes a Base or Beat ‘Drop’. I have chosen this as
my Working Title as it is relevant to the genre of music that I have
chosen and will appeal to the targeted audience. It is also tells the
audience what type of music my magazine is about just by the title.
Genre Of Music
My magazine is focused on the genre Dance with the subgenres EDM
and Dubstep. I have chosen this as it is my favourite genre of music
which means that I will be able to write detailed, professional articles
as it is a genre that I know about and am interested in. I also chose it as
it is a popular genre that does not have many magazines dedicated to it
so it is a good selling point. I will have MixMag to compete with but I
aim for my magazine to appeal to different people as it will have a
more professional, cleaner design.
Cover Price
The cover price of my magazine will be £3.50 as from my survey
feedback I found out that most people wanted to pay less than £5 for
my magazine. By charging £3.50 it also open the magazine up to lower
income households. This will allow my magazine to be more successful
and have a large fan base and following. This is important if I want my
magazine to be able to compete with the likes of MixMag. It is also
good as Dance music appeals to people from all areas of society and
social classes.
Frequency Of Publication
• My magazine will come out once every month as this will allow me to
gain loyal and frequent readers as more people will be able to afford
it. It also means that I will be able to write better articles as there will
be more news to talk about. This is how most of the competition
magazines release their new editions and it allows them to create a
high quality magazine every month as they have a longer time to
work on it.
Mission Statement
‘Providing modern and entertaining news and interviews from the heart of the
industry’
‘The Drop’ aims to entertain and update music fans from across the UK every month
on the biggest news, bringing exclusive interviews and announcements before any
other Media outlet. The Drop will proved a professional and clean style with an easy to
read layout providing you with the information you need to keep up to date with an
ever changing community. This magazine will focus on the most popular artists
including the likes of Tiesto, Oliver Heldens and Skrillex as well as up and coming
Artists and songs. We will also have a monthly section dedicated to the biggest Dance
and EDM record label Spinnin Records. Dance music is the most modern music in the
industry so we are heavily liked with Social Media so that our audience never miss out.
Reader Profile
Dance music is an ever growing and change community with a diverse audience who
cannot be defined by a single profile but here is what statistically the personality of
‘The Drop’ readers would be.
• The typical reader of ‘The Drop’ would be Male aged 16 to 24. They would live in a
household where the main Breadwinner is Higher Managerial or Intermediate
Managerial.
• They would enjoy Parties, Clubbing, Socialising with friends and going to Annual
Festivals as well as relaxing using technology. They are the first to discover new
music through their avid use of social media and are keen to explore and find new
artists with a different style. Their preferred way to listen to music is on Spotify as it
allows unlimited music with playlists direct from their favourite artists. The readers
of ‘The Drop’ will spend all their disposable income on new Clothes, Technology and
having a great time.
