Piperacillin & tazobactam is effective against nosocomial infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has shown success in treating lower respiratory tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and fever in neutropenic patients. Piperacillin is an extended spectrum penicillin while tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects piperacillin from degradation, allowing it to be effective against beta-lactamase producing bacteria.
