Society, Gender Roles and Gender-Conflict Essay example
Society, Gender Roles and Gender Conflict
Time and time again gender conflict is brought to the attention of the public in various forms. In
our time someone who wants to make a point about gender conflict and the inequality that is
present will be more likely to use television or song to reach their audience. This however is a
fairly new technology. Books or some form of writing on the other hand have been around for
thousands of years. Gender conflict is nothing new. It is not as though one day it just came out of
no where. It has been around since the dawn of time. What is a man s place and what is a woman s
place in society or is there really a specific place at all; further more are we even really that
different to begin with? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joan is able to provide the reader with a vivid description of the anxieties and ordeals of being a
female throughout childhood and adolescence. She starts out with the simple desire to love and
be loved, to find acceptance. These desires are not gender specific, as both males and females
strive to be love and be loved and find acceptance. The difference is how women and men
actually find these. Due to constant victimization by others a pattern of outsiders becomes Joan
s guard and vengeance. Joan s early misery and resentment causes her to see life as her enemy.
Because Joan is made to feel as though she is an object, as many women in her time as well as
our own feel too, Joan learns to use idealization as a weapon that will reach her emotionally
unreachable mother: Joan claims to defy every effort to make her reduce out of a fear of
assimilation and loss of autonomy: I wasn t going to let myself be diminished, neutralized. I
wouldn t ever let her make me over in her image, thin and beautiful (Atwood, 85 6). This in her
mind would be surcoming to the gender stereotype that woman not only should fit into, but had to
fit into. It was her own way of rebelling against what a woman should be and being herself.
Whether this was the correct way to go about it, her reasons were her reasons and that is what is
important to her. Unfortunately this only caused a vicious circle. The more she rebelled against the
gender norm for her

Personal Narrative On Mats
Slam! Smack! My body hit the mat. I stood up and SMACK, I got slammed to the mat . It was
freshman year. I was wrestling a senior who I could quite literally fit inside of. Only two of my
teammates had won their matches so far. I was determined to win, unfortunately for me the
other kid was significantly better than me. In the final minute of the match I was slammed
down inconceivably hard and my head smashed against the mat. I like to call it the slam heard
round the world . Just then, I felt a click on the back of my head, like a light switch being flipped
on. I got incredibly frustrated with myself for allowing such an injury to occur. I jumped up to my
feet and I wrestled has hard as I possibly could. In my head it felt like the fog that clouded my
mind since the start of the match just cleared up.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whistle blew and I had lost the match. I was completely overwhelmed in disappointment at
the fact that I let my entire team down as I lost the match. After I got off the mat I sat down and
started to tear up as I the thought of being an utter waste of a varsity space. As the dual
concluded my coach took us all into the the locker room and started yelling at us. He said how
terrible we were and how we embarrassed him and AHS in general. As he did this my spirit just
went farther and farther down into my stomach. I felt like I was going to throw up. Then he stated
something that changed how I was thinking. He said It s crazy that I have to rely on a one hundred
and eighty two pound freshman (me) to go out on the mat and get out wrestled but still keeping
trying and pushing to win . After he said that I felt an enormous amount of stress and anxiety just
kinda melted off my

Explaining the Three Stages in The Hero s Journey Essay
During the course of this World Literature class, several stories have been covered that accurately
describe Joseph Campbell s mono myth, or basic pattern found in narratives from every corner of
the world. The Hero s Journey in it s entirety has seventeen stages or steps, but if boiled down can
be described in three; the departure, the initiation, and the return (Monomyth Cycle). Each stage has
several steps, but the cycle describes the herostarting in his initial state, encountering something to
change him, and this his return as a changed person. To further explain this concept, there are a few
stories covered in this class that can be used. Beowulfis an epic poem telling the story of Beowulf, a
legendary Geatish hero who later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, he removes any sort of advantage man might have over monster as he removes his gear
and weapons, fighting the monster truly mono a mono, hand to hand. So while Beowulf so far
h as followed the mono myth on it s major points (the three described earlier), in the finer details
he has deviated from the set path (Beowulf Study Guide). Beowulf s victory over Grendel should
be considered as crossing of the first threshold . Prior to his victory, Beowulf had only triumphed
over man. This victory over monster provides him with more (personal) glory, and causes a bit
of a dip into the next major step of the Hero s Journey, the initiation. Beowulf is interesting in
that he combines two distinct events into the initiation stage of the hero. The appointment as
king is the obvious choice for pinpointing the exact point of the story in which the hero
undergoes the greatest change, but really it is the entire time from after Grendel s death to when
Beowulf actually becomes king. His core character changes, a maturation from warrior to leader
possible only because of his trial and ability to overcome hardship and challenge. The seeds of a
true leader are planted however, and the reader begins to see the change from his focus on himself
and his glory, to that of his people. His focus will begin to switch to that of others, not just himself.
This however will take time to take root and really change his character. For the time

Miner Narrative
Title of story Everything was bad until they came. Then everything turned even worse. They
wore of red and black, soldier color. Their horses galloping without rest, soldier horses. These
bad boys would kick you until you stop breathing. Well this is new, I said to myself. Citizens!
one shouted, Your presence is requested at the royal palace of the king. The villagers started
whispering all the sudden. Last time soldiers came, nine people went missing including 3
children. I deeply didn t care about this because I spent 23 hours a day working in the mines. I m
a miner hence the name Miner. Everyone of the village must come or face death, another soldier
said. This actually change my point of view, I had never left the village, or... Show more content on

Only royal road was only for nobles or messengers. The village walked all day only stopping for
four hours everyday. The king obviously wanted to rush us there for something important. I didn
t think too much of it because all I did was look at the sky all day. She was my only friend. As
days pass by, so did the villagers spirit. They had never liked this trek in the first place. Their
bleeding feet told without words. One even started begging the soldiers. The soldier didn t give
her anything, but he did give meat for the wolves. This kingdom is ruled by fear, I thought to
myself. More days have passed and more bodies have fallen, seven in total. All were just
peasants trying to make a living. The village let out a heavy sigh when we finally reach the
castle. It was sturdy castle, but definitely outdated. Any nation in the world can destroy it in a
few days. All around the castle were slaves picking apples in cruel conditions. It was actually
better than some jobs like farmer. They had enough food and could always rely on shelter. The
funny thing was that they tried not to look at us. That s when I realize they were actually trying to
hide their faces. Something was wrong here and only one person was to blame, King

The Conflict Between Palestine And Israel
Throughout this essay you will learn about the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Many factor
took place to cause the conflict between Palestine and Israel, such as, the history, where the conflict
stands today, why both side have a good argument against one another, and why the attempts at
peace have fallen short. The IsraelPalestineconflict has lasted for a longer time than anyone would
have expected. The conflict elaborated into a gigantic battle when it could have been an easy
solve. Overall, the ongoing conflict should have never gone this far and damaged this many
people s lives throughout Palestine and Israel. Many are confused as to why the conflict began in
the first. The conflict has been happening for years now with Israel and Palestine fighting over
the region of Gaza. The conflict began with a debate over Palestine and Israel disagreeing over
which country gets control over what part of the land. The primary approach was to give Palestine
the control of the state of Gaza and the West Bank, and leaving the rest of the land to Israel. This
plan they came up with was called the two state solution which was supposed to help reduce less
conflict. Israel and Palestine could have replaced the two state solution with the one state solution
means the would have created a huge Israel or a huge Palestine in that land, which would have
caused bigger controversy among the countries. Through the whole conflict many civilians have
been injured and killed in the

Criminalization Of Non-Disclosure
When one thinks of looking at the experiences of people who have HIV/AIDS, two things may
come to mind. The first thing may be the diversity of people who are actually living with HIV
/AIDS around them. The second thing may be is how frequently and in how many ways people
with HIV/AIDS are stigmatized and discriminated against. That being said, sometimes it may
appear that all the people who are living with HIV/AIDSmay be alike in only two ways such as
having contracted the HIV/AIDS infection and being stigmatized and discriminated against for
having HIV/AIDS. Stigma and discrimination tend to cancel out all of society s empathy and
humanity as a whole. The result of such harsh discrimination and stigmatization may cause an
individual with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If having HIV is not hard enough on a person, the experiences of people living with HIV have
been made more complex by the increase in criminalization of HIV non disclosure.
Criminalization of non disclosure does nothing but create more stigma against people with HIV
as well as create a deep fear in people living with HIV. People who are living with HIV are made
to fear the legal system due to their disease, they are no longer given the right to choose whether
or not they disclose to their intimate partners but they must do so in order to avoid being labeled
a sex offender or incarcerated. Criminalization is not an effective way to stop the transmission of
HIV/AIDS but it is an effective way into scaring people so deeply that they feel like they are left
without any human rights, family, friends, or dignity. That being said, saying that criminalization
will prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS is like saying that traffic signs will stop people from
speeding in regards to non disclosure, meaning it is not going to happen. Criminal law may be
needed in some extreme situations; for example, if a person has intent to transmit HIV to another
person, but what is happening more frequently in Canada is that there is more of an expansive use
of the criminal law. With this, the law and order approach does virtually nothing to stop HIV
transmission but what it does do is stigmatize people living with and at risk of HIV, and is
undermining proven HIV prevention strategies and

Horror Movies As A Child s Play One Or Bride Of Chucky
The horror movie that stands out to me was not the first that I have seen. Ever since I was
roughly four had been watching real life crime shows with my father and murder mysteries, so
my taste in movies and shows started from there. I had watched horror movies before, but the
series that I distinctly remember is Chucky. When I was in the third grade my father said that I
could watch the Chucky movies with him, to this day it is my favorite movie series and to this
day if you bring it up my mother gets angry. The plot line in Chucky is that a serial strangler by
the name of Charles Lee Ray is caught and right before he dies passes his soul into the body of a
doll. Then the doll is given to a little boy and if you haven t seen the movie you can assume what

Chucky I m reminded of the first time that I ever genuinely enjoyed horror movies and it sparked

The Short Story Of Jealousy
Jealousy will without doubt affect everyone physically nonetheless it will also affect you
mentally. The phrase family will always stab you in the back never wants to cross your mind as
true; but for one set of brothers they took this saying literally. Your brother is supposed to be your
best friend not your killer. Throughout the short story it is displayed rather clearly with Cain and,
Abel. The actions of Cain and Abelit is communitiave that jealousy can provoke people to do
unthinkable things. When a family finally receives the biggest blessing of having a child their life
becomes complete. Although for Adam and Evethey prayed to the lord nightly for just one more
son, they already had a perfect child but that was just not enough. Lord brought Abel down to
them. Cain and Abel were brothers. Cain worked the soil as Abel worked with the animal. In
Cain s head Abel had gotten the better job of the two and that is instantly when jealousy arouse
inside of him. Because Abel got the better job it was important to ensure God had continued to
be happy with him, Cain brought the Lord some fresh fruit from the soil he had recently been
working on and God barely noticed. Abel then brought a fat portion from the animals he had
recently been working with and God looked with favor at him. This caused Cain to get the feeling
a jealousy form in the pit of his stomach. The events above display the rising action and it proves
that all the hard work Cain put in it will never

Should Canada To Maintain World Peace
Canada needed to go to Afghanistan to maintain world peace for many reasons. First, Afghanistan
needed assistance after becoming overwhelmed with terrorist groups such as al Qaeda which had
set up training camps in Afghanistan. Secondly, people around the world were starting to doubt the
effectiveness of international organizations like NATOand the UN s. Finally, Afghanistan was
becoming a training ground for al Qaeda and Canada had to help in the fight against terrorismby
going to Afghanistan. To summarize, Canada needed to go to Afghanistan to help rebuild
Afghanistan, help prove that international organizations like the UN are still effective in working
towards maintaining world peace, and stopping the spread of terrorism.

This is because people around the world were starting to doubt and question the effectiveness of
the UN. However, the UN plays a vital role in trying to achieve world peace. Lastly, efforts in
Afghanistan involved the UN. The Telegraph states that the UN has been responsible for failures
such as; Rwanda Genocide, rape and child sex abuse in the Congo, spreading cholera in Haiti,
Iraq oil for food programme, and the massacre in Srebrenica. (Telegraph). Ambassador Richard
Butler... says it would be absolutely wrong to declare the U.N. a failure, but to the extent that it
is failing it s because the body s most powerful members are breaking the very rules that they say
they support. (Aljazeera). These articles help bring light to some of the UN s failures and show
that the world has started to question the integrity of the UN. However, the world needs the UN to
maintain world peace. As claimed by MUNPlanet At a time when our security is seemingly under
threat from every threat from every side... the UN remains a vital instrument of international
governance. (MUNPlanet). This quote demonstrates why we still need groups like the UN to
maintain world peace; to protect us from the plethora of threats that continue to threaten the world s
safety. Finally, Canada needed to go to Afghanistan to support the NATO/UN sanctioned mission.
Canada was part of a larger NATO led United Nationssanctioned mission...focused on helping the
Government of Afghanistan assume responsibility... rebuild their nation as a stable, democratic,
self sufficient society. (Forces). This quote shows that Canada needed to go to Afghanistan to prove
that international collaboration is needed to maintain world peace. In conclusion, Canada needed to
go to Afghanistan to prove that nationwide organizations like the UN were needed to maintain
peace. This is because the world was

Key Argument Of R. B. Bernstein
5.The key argument of R.B. Bernstein throughout all of the book is that we must no longer hold the
Founding Father as a group, but we must treat them as individual humans with flaws, failures, and
diversity. Throughout all of history Americans have debated the original intent of the Founding
Fathers and treated them as if they have superhuman wisdom and their handiwork with superior
admiration. R.B. Bernstein attempts to remove the Founding Fathers from their status of worship
so that the American people can meet them eye to eye and form a more sensible impression of
who they were. He spends the majority of the preface establishing the conflicting views people
have on the Founding Fathers today, and he ends the preface by stating his goal

The Human Impact On Natural Environment
The human impact on natural environment is one of the most pressing issues of contemporary
times and a subject of discussion. The increasing human population and the rising level of
technology both have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are
several environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and
humancauses. Of all the global environmental problems, desertificationis, perhaps, the most
threatening problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert
areas. Today in many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the
world soon we will not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is
human activities and the other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of
desertification is human activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation,
Mismanagement of irrigation, Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and
exploitation of resources etc. All human causes are related to over population. Due to
overpopulationthere is great pressure on land and resources. According to Neo Malthusian,
demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of resources (Malthus, 1798). Earlier
desertification was only a natural formation but day by day humans are becoming responsible for it
because of land mismanagements. One theory argues that resources under common

Essay on Letter (colonist) to Britian friend in 1776
1. Letter to friend in England.
Dearest Friend of England, 1776
I know it is hard to believe we (the colonists) would be on the verge of a revolution against our
own homeland. My father has explained to me the reasons we deserve independence from God, the
King, and the British people. There are many things going on in the colonies to lead us to our
current thoughts. The British people have imposed many Acts upon us colonists.
In the year 1767, British parliament passed Mr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the Tea Act. This act stated that only the British East India Companycould sell or transport
tea. Members of parliament passed this act because many of them had stakes in the company. At
the time the British India Company was going bankrupt. This act threatened all colonial
businesses by creating a monopoly. In Boston, the colonists devised a plan to resist this act.
Several colonists dressed as Indians to deceive the British. These colonists seized the imported tea
and dumped it into the harbor. The colonists dubbed this the tea party. The British responded to
these actions by creating four acts jointly called the Coercive Acts. These acts closed the Boston
ports to all trade, increased power of Massachusetts governor, granted trials of royal officials in
Massachusetts be tried elsewhere, and allowed the new governor rights to quarter his troops
anywhere. These Coercive Acts only angered the colonists more. They have strengthened their non
importation of British goods. They have also begun the forming of local militia companies.
There have been many battles lately. The battle at Lexigon and Concord is one of first
significance. British General Gage was ordered to arrest the leaders of resistance. Through
reconnaissance General Gage was informed the city of Concord was storing arms and ammunition
in a barn in preparations of a revolt. General Gage

Vietnam Scholarship Essay
Prior to the Sarah Bonnifield Vietnam Scholarship opportunity, I had never researched or been
educated on the unique importance of the Air Force in the Vietnam War. However, as I looked into
it, I became increasingly interested in and aware of the incredible significance the USAF played
throughout the duration of the war. The Air Force used novel strategies and adopted several new
roles in during Vietnam that had never been used in previous wars or conflicts. In addition to these
tactics, new technology and weapons emerged during this time period that changed the way that the
Air Force would be utilized in conflicts and wars from that point on. At the beginning of the war,
the United Statesinvolvement was limited to mostly supplying the South Vietnamese troops with
training and weaponry, etc. More specifically in the air, they also led reconnaissance missions

The Monkey Who Is The Central Character Of Wu Cheng
Monkey who is the central character of Wu Cheng is lead on a passage where he comes across a
lot of difficulties. While on this journey, he acquires new friendships, but still faces countless
nemeses. He meets different people along the way and all of them strive to be a true Buddhist,
but all lack some of the must have characteristics to be a true Buddhist. I choose to write about
this because it pertains to our everyday lives. We strive to be perfect and strive to have all
qualities needed to be a decent person. But the fact of the matter is that it is simply something
we can always strive for but will always need to work on. There is never enough that a person
can do because there is always room for improvement. I relate this life matter to the story because
even if one thinks they have all the characteristics to be anything there is always something that
can be improved on no matter how perfect you portray yourself to be. I will portray the characters
on what they are faced with and what each of them represents. They all have common assets that
are a part of humannature, but none has all of what it takes to be a true Buddhist.

While the revenue for cruises has declined in the US, it is growing in Europe and Asia, leading to
more opportunities for Carnival to expand in these regions. Current plans calls to increase berth
capacity for the European market 30% and 20% for the Asian Market by 2016.
Customers in Asia are now looking for luxurious cruises as a vacation option. Disposable
income of the Chinese consumer has grown annually by 10% a year. The total number of
passengers sourced from China had increased steadily in the past few years so the Costa Classica
was launched specifically for this market back in 2010. Carnival is also planning to introduce a

Trends have shifted in the cruising industry towards the 45 60 year old age group. As this age

Sergeant York Movie Accuracy
The noise were worse than ever, and everybody was shouting through the dark, and nobody seemed
to be able to hear what anybody else said (York, 1998). The movie Sergeant York was released in
1941 as a black and white film by MGM Home Videos. Directed by Howard Hawks, this film
showed the life and struggles of the war hero Alvin C. York. The main character, York played by
Gary Cooper, struggles with the thought of killing as World War 1 breaks out. The movie
shows how Alvin came to know his wife Gracie, played by Joan Leslie; came to know Christ; and
became a war hero. We also see how York comes to find friends while in the trenches; one of which
is Michael T. Ross, played by George Tobias, they grow to be fast friends as the movie proceeds.

Glorious Revolution and American Revolution
Each revolution is an innovation , whether it is bloody or not. British did well in revolution, so did
America, though they happened in a different era. However, because British had achieved the
accomplishment successfully, such as ended the monarchy peacefully and distributed the rights to
the parliament. It set an example for other countries and this impacted them drastically. The
documents; the reason why they rebelled; the legacy they left are so similar that people generally
consider the Glorious Revolution as the forerunner of the America Revolution.

pleased to allow them to leave. Suddenly, from some unknown place a shot was fired, and the
British opened up on the Americans. A cloud of musket smoke soon covered the green. When the
brief Battle of Lexington ended, eight Americans were dead and 10 others were wounded. Only one
British soldier was injured, but the American Revolution had begun. At this point it was obvious to
see that the British had a bigger and better army, and the American only had the militia. However, at
Concord, the militia used a tactic called guerrilla. Guerrilla was a kind of tactic that utilized the
geography feature to have advantage during the battles. Militias just shot enemies randomly and
then they hid, so that the British troops were really confused about where their enemies were. This
time the American militias were prepared, with this tactic, the Americans routed the British all the

Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart s Life Essay
Joannes Chrisostomus Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart was born January 27, 1756 in his family s
third floor apartment at 9 Getreidegasse, to Leopold and Anna Maria Pertl Mozart in the city of
Salzburg, which is now Austria. At the time, Salzburg was part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Mozart was baptized the day after his birth, January 28, 1756 at St. Rupert s Cathedral. Mozart had
six siblings and the only sibling who survived after birth was his older sister, Maria Anna, who had
the nickname Nannerl.
Wolfgang was his grandfather s name. Gottlieb, his godfather s surname, was later translated into
Amadeus. Mozart confirmed that he would be called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
His father, Leopold Mozart was a German who was a violinist at the prince archbishop s court,
as well as a musician, conductor, composer, and teacher. In the year of Wolfgang s birth he
published what became a standard book on the technique of playing the violin and the following
year he was appointed court composer. His mother Anna Maria, was very supportive of Mozart s
father. Mozart was Leopold and Anna s last child.
Leopold was very big on making sure his two children succeed. He wanted to develop their
talents to a high maximum, to make money and raise his social status, because he gave up on his
own composing. Although Leopold pushed the children to do best for his social status, Leopold
saw it as his role as a father to the children. Leopold s wife, agreed on all of his actions towards
Mozart and Maria Anna.

Quarterback Mobility And Its Impact On College Football...
The 2012 NFL season is over, and fans are left with little to do, except follow player cuts while
awaiting free agency and the rookie draft. While flipping through the latest news, I came across the
following headlines: o Titans looking to add zone read elements to offense o Quarterback mobility
takes on greater focus at Scouting Combine
The basis of these reports is that an influx of young quarterbacks has entered the NFL over the last
two years with new skill sets from those of the past. These players are QB / RB hybrids with
decent but not exceptional passing skills. Teams such as Carolina, Seattle, Washington, etc have
been modifying their offense to best utilize the players skills, namely by implementing the zone

attacking defender into a spectator.
Weaknesses: o Relies heavily on training the QB to make proper reads . o QB often runs inside

Analysis Of Canadian Politician Ron Johnson
Pricing is actually a pretty simple and straight forward thing. Customers will not pay literally a
penny more than the true value of the product (Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by
Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment
composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricingstrategy. For products
created by their individual organizations. Let s kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible
strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television.
3D television:
A company has produced a state of the art 3D television that contains unique features, that is
different from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a
new technology that doesn t involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and
display of this contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company
will revel in the advantage it will gain over other companies for at least a year or two. So, it would
be prudent that this company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the
pricing strategy for this advanced 3D television.
Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or
maintaining a higher market share with existing products compared to your closest competitors

Lark Bunting Observation
Question #1: (291 words total) 1) In the Macaulay Library collection, I was able to find an audio
sample for the Lark Bunting; the scientific name for this particular variation is calamospiza

The recording was taken by Wilbur L. Hershberger on May 8, 2013 in the U.S. state of Colorado.

Lark Bunting. December through January, which is winter for those in North America, the
Bunting is located in the southwestern United States. It resides in areas located near Texas,
Mexico, southern California, and New Mexico. May through July, which is generally summer, the
Bunting is located in areas vastly different its winter destinations in that it can be found mainly in
the central United States and southern Canada, but is seemingly spotted all over the western

Achilles the Illiad
Iliad 21.70 135 (Lykaon supplicates Achilles, Achilles kills him)
Consider Achilles response to supplication in this passage. How does this compare to his attitude in
the extracts from the Iliad in your lecture/tutorial readings?
The cruel rejection by Achilles to the supplication of Lykaon in Book 21 represents a fundamental
transformation in the attitude of Achilles. Achilles has become full of anger and self loathing
following the death of Patroclus. Achilles answers Lykaon s supplication by stating, I reject this
childish plea for mercy, and I will accept no ransom. Until Patroclus died, I often spared suppliants,
and sold them abroad; but now all Trojans I catch will die, especially all sons of King Priam!

Achilles has been tipped over the edge by the blame he feels for failing his responsibilities and
completely loses his grip on reality. Achilles no longer adheres to the moral and social standards
that were previously so important to him in his quest for personal glory. The old values Achilles
held are no longer relevant and he has lost all sense of right versus wrong. Achilles atrocious acts
are symbolic of the war raging inside his mind. In his vengeful slaying of the Trojans he is
metaphorically trying to kill himself over and over again. At this point Achilles is completely
obsessed on obtaining revenge by killing Hector and absolutely nothing will stop him achieving this
aim. Achilles is now in a psychological traumatic state of mind.
Achilles wrath reaches its pinnacle when he kills Hector, as he declares, at last I am avenged!
(Graves 1960 22:317). It would now be reasonable to expect that from this moment on Achilles
anger would begin to subside with the relief of his revenge. We would rightfully expect to begin
to see the return of the old Achilles as previously told, but there is no gall in Achilleus heart, he is
forgiving (Lattimore 2011 2:240) however this is most certainly not the case. Instead Achilles anger
is further and even more disturbingly demonstrated by his mutilation of Hectors body. Achilles has
not found peace in his revenge whatsoever instead he becomes more deranged than ever. The death

Tea and Coffee are both severed in similar formats. They can be served hot or cold. They also can

Assessment Of Spoken And Language
The CASL or Comprehensive Assessment of spoken and language was administered by two student
clinicians. The Test consists of 15 sub tests in the domains of comprehension, expression, and
retrieval in the 4 categories of semantics, syntax, supra linguistics, and pragmatics.. These sub tests
are then divided into core or supplementary categories. Core tests are meant to determine basic
languagecomponents where as supplementary test are meant to convey further information for a
diagnosis. Depending on the client s age, the test can take between thirty minutes to an hour and a
half to administer, but overall is not a difficult test and yields useful results. A variety of different
factors where taken into account when norming the CASL. The agegroup used was between 3.0 to
21.11 years, and taken from most areas of the country including the Northeast, northwest, central,
and west. Fifty percent of these participants were male and fifty percent were female. Almost
70% of this reference population identified as white while about 20% of the reference population
was either Hispanic or African American. Based on these norms this test may be better for some
populations rather then others. For example, if a clinician has a Hispanic boy from Texas, she
may want to use a different test, or at least keep these norms in mind when scoring. Because this

The Auteur Theory Of Film Directed By Francois Truffaut...
It might be apparent when watching the credits at the end of a movie that there are a lot of people
who partake in the development in what you just watched. Although a director can t usually create
and perform all the aspects involved when making a film, the Auteur Theory focuses on the idea
that the director is the true author, and creditable for the final look of the film. Auteur Theory is a
philosophy of film created by Francois Truffaut, a film directorand critic, in 1959. Truffaut noted
that the directors are, and wish to be, responsible for the scenarios and dialogues that they

Even the young actor Jean Leaud playing Antoine Dionel shared a similar misunderstood youth.
This incorporation of the recreation of Truffaut s personal experience into his work gave it
individuality, thus an true expression of the directors vision. This use of personal resemblance
was also used in his later film The Wild Child (1969), as the filmmaker identifies not only with
the child character, but also with the father figure, Dr. Itard, whose part he chose to interpret
himself. (Colvile 448). Francois Truffaut s skills with the technical competence was also a high
light for his unique Auteurism. The 400 Blows takes the audience through a trouble young boys
life, and his remarkable use of subtle camera technique and sense of composition enhance the
aspects of the Poignant film. The long shot of the final running sequence in the film is really
interesting and unique. Unlike other very satisfying resolutions with a strong degree of closure,
the protagonist makes it to the beach, where his mother had always wanted him, but once he
reaches the water the camera zooms on his face and the frame freezes. This leaves the audience
with a sense of openness to ponder well what next? , which is a common question asked once a

of storytelling. The main point that stands out in Hitchcock s work is the recurrent characteristic
that give his films, as a whole, a distinct

Q3: How the 7 Eleven stores in Taiwan compare with their counterparts in the US?
The first Taiwanese 7 Eleven store was launched by PCSC in 1980. As the local franchisee,
PCSC kept the store logo and the core of convenience store concept that was well established in
America. By contrast, other aspects of the store chain had been re formatted. For the layout, 7
Eleven in Taiwan had smaller average store area of 700 m2, only a quarter of that in the US. In
terms of product offerings, despite providing basic daily use products as the US model, the
Taiwanese 7 Eleven stores also served local common foods such as tea egg, luwei and biandang.
Furthermore, innovative services were the distinctive traits of Taiwanese 7 Eleven. In spite of the
high level of operations, PCSC also extended the concept of customer convenience to the
information technology(IT). For example, 7 Eleven in Taiwan introduced e commerce (i Bon

Tuck Everlasting Essay
Tuck Everlasting is a great book!
According to The Hornbook, Tuck Everlasting is Flawless in both style and structure. Although
some people may think that the book is very cut to the point, especially with the fact that there are
few characters, it has a great amount of detail, it s very organized, and the structure of the book
itself is amazing. This book is definitely worth reading, and one reason is that there is a limited
amount of characters. Some books, like the Lord of the Rings series, have too many characters, and
that makes the book hard to follow, which makes the book uninteresting. There are only about nine
characters in this book, including the minor ones, and they are built up just enough so that they can

They are all providing a terrific image of the scenes, and there are so many words describing the
trees, flowers, and lots of other things in the forest. There are also several forms of figurative
language like similes, metaphors, and lots of personification. On page 3, the text states, The
first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live long year, like the
highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. On page 5 it states, It wandered along
in curves and easy angles, swayed off and up in a pleasant tangent to the top of a small hill,
ambled down again between fringes of bee hung clover, and then cut sidewise across a meadow.
Both of these passages provide, in great detail, a mental picture of what the book looks like. The
final reason that people should read this book is because of the way the author writes the novel. Ms.
Babbit, the author, makes you feel like the characters are right next to you. She makes them feel
like they are right when they are wrong. For example, when Mae Tuck kills the man in the Yellow
Suit, you feel she is in the right like she s done absolutely nothing wrong. And the same thing
happens when the Tucks kidnap Winnie Foster, it just seems meant to be. The style of Tuck

Essay on Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster
The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster It is a silent enemy, it has no odor, no smell, no
shape, yet it is one of man s deadliest foes. Radiation is not something most people face on a
daily basis, but for the town of Prypiat in the Ukraine it is a barren wasteland because of it. The
Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster was the worst nuclear catastrophe to have ever occurred
and, is a perfect example of what can happen when the blind and unmasked furry of atomic power
is left unharnessed. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is near the town of Prypiat, Ukraine, 18
km northwest of the city of Chernobyl, 16 km from the border of Ukraine and Belarus, and about
110 km north of Kyiv. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Therefore, the test program was not formally coordinated with either the chief designer of the
reactor, nor with the scientific manager. Instead, it was approved only by the director of the plant.
According to the test parameters, at the start of the experiment, the thermal output of the reactor
should have been no lower than 700 MW. If the conditions of the reactor had been as planned, the
test almost certainly would have proceeded safely. The eventual disaster resulted from attempts to
boost the reactor output once the experiment had started, inconsistent with the approved
procedure. (Marples 39 43) The Chernobyl power plant had been in operation for two years
without the capability to ride through the first 60 75 seconds of a total loss of electric power. The
station managers wished to correct this at the first opportunity. This may explain why they
continued the test, even when serious problems arose, and why the requisite approval for the test
was not sought from the Soviet nuclear oversight regulator. (Gale 22 25) At 1:23:04 a.m. the
experiment began, the steam to the turbines was shut off, and a run down of the turbine generator
began, together with the four Main Circulating Pumps (MCP). The diesel generator started and
sequentially picked up loads, which was complete by 01:23:43; during this period the power for
these four MCPs was supplied by the coasting down turbine generator. As the momentum

The Mafia Organized Crime
The Mafia
The Mafia is a type of organized crime syndicate. Organized crime is a certain type of crime that
is neatly executed and well planned out. When a group, like the mafia, attends in organized crime,
it almost always involves illegal activity and is for a profit of some sort. Other times the mafia

Horse Creative Writing
I walked past stalls of horses to a new off track thoroughbred named
Damien serenely peering into the aisle. My trainer had asked me to ride him. As I picked his
hooves and curried his chestnut flanks, he was as tranquil as autumn leaves in a gentle breeze until
he saw the saddle, then he became a tornado whirling around the center of the stall.
I lead him by leather reins to the outdoor ring where my trainer would see him work for the first
time. He trotted circles around me and spooked at the wind. I returned to the barn and let him run
and buck so he could burn off extra energy. When I heard my trainer s golf cart stop in front of the
barn, I caught him and prepared to mount. My trainer arrived and held his bridle while I put my
foot in the stirrup. When foot made contact with iron, the horse bolted. He spun himself in circles
around my trainer while I balanced half on, half off struggling to find the saddle and my
balance. As soon as I was seated, the horse was loose. I gathered my reins and sat as calmly as I
could. Suddenly, he bucked and threw me forward. As I fell onto his neck, he continued bucking.
My trainer yelled, Sit up! Pick his head up! I was able to do neither. When I fell, the cold ground
greeted me with a slap. I struggled to slowly stand as I clung to my now wet ... Show more content

ballooned up and was adorned with a gash. A feather s touch could conduct fire into my arm. A

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge, was also known as the Galloping...
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge, was also known as the Galloping Gertie, was one of the most
famous cause study of structure failure in the world. The idea for constructuring of the bridge
came up in the date back to 1889 with a Northern Pacific Railway proposal for a trestle. Then after
a few yerars of concreted and construction with the cost of over 6,400,000 dallors, the bridgewas
been build and became the third longest and the most flexible suspension bridgein the world of its
time of 1900s with a toatl length of 1810m. It was designed as a twin suspension bridge which
located between Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula in United States. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Prior of this time, most bridge design were based on trusses, arches, and cantilevers to support
heavy freight trains. Automobiles were obviously much lighter. Suspension bridge design had been
envolving into producing bridges of maximum grace, lightness and flexibility which actually was
more suited for carrying lighter cars and not heavier train. Unfortunately, engineers did not fully
understand the response of the suspension bridge design to these poorly understand forces. The
second reson was due to the excitation of torsional mode. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built
with shallow plate girders instead of the deep stiffening trusses of railway bridges, in which trusses
allowed wind to pass through but plate girders, on the other hand, present an obstacle to the wind.
As a result of its design, it was proved that the bridge was too light and unstable. And causing

During the morning of 7 November 1940, the wind with around 56.3 km/h (35 miles/h) excited
bridge`s transverse vibration mode to its maximum amplitude of vibration of 0.5 m within three
hours. Then the wind started increasing to 67.6 km/h (42 miles/h). One supporting cable at the mid
span snapped causing unbalanced loading. The bridge response thus changed to a 0.2 Hz torsional

Von Willebrand Disease Research Paper
Von Willebrand disease is a condition that can cause extended or excessive bleeding. This
condition is the most common inherited coagulation disease in domestic animals but in rare cases
may develop later in life. Von Willebrand factor is a large glycoprotein that circulates with factor
VIII and is responsible for the combination of platelets at the beginning of the coagulationcascade.
The cause of von Willebrand diseaseis a deficiency in or impairment of a protein called von
Willebrand factor, an important component in your blood clotting process.
Etiology: von Willebrand disease is an inherited defect in the gene that controls von Willebrand
factor which is a protein that plays a key role in your blood clotting process. When von Willebrand
factor is scarce or not functioning properly because of structural abnormalities,
thrombocytes(platelets) cannot stick together properly, nor can they attach themselves normally to
the blood vessel walls when an injury has occurred. The result is interference with the blood
clotting process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to moderate symptoms and the most common form. The more severe ones are Type 2 and 3 which
are less common. Von Willebrand disease only affects clotting (hemostasis) and causes no other
disease effects. The genetics of this disease has been investigated and they found that a single gene,
autosomal recessive, condition in which the normal gene is affected by a splice site mutation. The
result of this is the reduced rate of von Willebrand factor(vWF) production. Some of the breeds that
are at risk are Doberman Pinschers, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Miniature Schnauzers,

when Bush scolded the press corps about writing stories of him having a tendency for secrecy (p.

Blue Jays Case Study
The Toronto Blue Jays recent success, shown in large by the team s first playoff berth in
22 years, has boosted ticket prices at an exponential rate. Through the use of economic concepts and
the book Cocktail Party Economics, the change in prices can be explained further in depth.
While any Blue Jays enthusiast could tell that the price boost is due to the increase in the team s
popularity, one with a working knowledge of economics could explain that the price increase is a
factor of scarcity, demand equilibrium.
Scarcity, simply put, is the underlying reason why economics and markets exist: the fact that there
is not enough of a good for everyone who wants one to have one. In Cocktail Party
Economics, the author gives an example of having 10 stones that 20 different ... Show more content

There is a limited number of seats in a stadium, and thus there is a limit to the number of tickets to
sell, resulting in only the most dedicated and faithful fans paying large prices to see the playoff
games.
After the Jays improved performance in the regular season and the increased popularity of the
team, it would be easy to simply say that playoff tickets are in higher demand. However, we must
turn to economics to explain why demand has increased. Demand refers to how much of a good
the market will buy at any given price. For this reason, it is important to understand that price
changes, whether they be increasing or decreasing, do not change demand В they change the
quantity demanded. During the first half of the baseball season, the Blue Jays had a worse record
and were not expected to be in the playoff team for that simple reason that they rarely sold out
their games, despite the tickets being at a lower price point than present. However, today tickets
sell out mere hours after being put to market as consumer preferences changed in favour of the
team. Cocktail Party Economics gives the example of grocery stores stocking products with

  • 2. Society, Gender Roles and Gender-Conflict Essay example Society, Gender Roles and Gender Conflict Time and time again gender conflict is brought to the attention of the public in various forms. In our time someone who wants to make a point about gender conflict and the inequality that is present will be more likely to use television or song to reach their audience. This however is a fairly new technology. Books or some form of writing on the other hand have been around for thousands of years. Gender conflict is nothing new. It is not as though one day it just came out of no where. It has been around since the dawn of time. What is a man s place and what is a woman s place in society or is there really a specific place at all; further more are we even really that different to begin with? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joan is able to provide the reader with a vivid description of the anxieties and ordeals of being a female throughout childhood and adolescence. She starts out with the simple desire to love and be loved, to find acceptance. These desires are not gender specific, as both males and females strive to be love and be loved and find acceptance. The difference is how women and men actually find these. Due to constant victimization by others a pattern of outsiders becomes Joan s guard and vengeance. Joan s early misery and resentment causes her to see life as her enemy. Because Joan is made to feel as though she is an object, as many women in her time as well as our own feel too, Joan learns to use idealization as a weapon that will reach her emotionally unreachable mother: Joan claims to defy every effort to make her reduce out of a fear of assimilation and loss of autonomy: I wasn t going to let myself be diminished, neutralized. I wouldn t ever let her make me over in her image, thin and beautiful (Atwood, 85 6). This in her mind would be surcoming to the gender stereotype that woman not only should fit into, but had to fit into. It was her own way of rebelling against what a woman should be and being herself. Whether this was the correct way to go about it, her reasons were her reasons and that is what is important to her. Unfortunately this only caused a vicious circle. The more she rebelled against the gender norm for her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Narrative On Mats Slam! Smack! My body hit the mat. I stood up and SMACK, I got slammed to the mat . It was freshman year. I was wrestling a senior who I could quite literally fit inside of. Only two of my teammates had won their matches so far. I was determined to win, unfortunately for me the other kid was significantly better than me. In the final minute of the match I was slammed down inconceivably hard and my head smashed against the mat. I like to call it the slam heard round the world . Just then, I felt a click on the back of my head, like a light switch being flipped on. I got incredibly frustrated with myself for allowing such an injury to occur. I jumped up to my feet and I wrestled has hard as I possibly could. In my head it felt like the fog that clouded my mind since the start of the match just cleared up.... As the dual concluded my coach took us all into the the locker room and started yelling at us. He said how terrible we were and how we embarrassed him and AHS in general. As he did this my spirit just went farther and farther down into my stomach. I felt like I was going to throw up. Then he stated something that changed how I was thinking. • 4. Explaining the Three Stages in The Hero s Journey Essay During the course of this World Literature class, several stories have been covered that accurately describe Joseph Campbell s mono myth, or basic pattern found in narratives from every corner of the world. The Hero s Journey in it s entirety has seventeen stages or steps, but if boiled down can be described in three; the departure, the initiation, and the return (Monomyth Cycle). Each stage has several steps, but the cycle describes the herostarting in his initial state, encountering something to change him, and this his return as a changed person. To further explain this concept, there are a few stories covered in this class that can be used. Beowulfis an epic poem telling the story of Beowulf, a legendary Geatish hero who later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, he removes any sort of advantage man might have over monster as he removes his gear and weapons, fighting the monster truly mono a mono, hand to hand. So while Beowulf so far h as followed the mono myth on it s major points (the three described earlier), in the finer details he has deviated from the set path (Beowulf Study Guide). Beowulf s victory over Grendel should be considered as crossing of the first threshold . Prior to his victory, Beowulf had only triumphed over man. This victory over monster provides him with more (personal) glory, and causes a bit of a dip into the next major step of the Hero s Journey, the initiation. Beowulf is interesting in that he combines two distinct events into the initiation stage of the hero. The appointment as king is the obvious choice for pinpointing the exact point of the story in which the hero undergoes the greatest change, but really it is the entire time from after Grendel s death to when Beowulf actually becomes king. His core character changes, a maturation from warrior to leader possible only because of his trial and ability to overcome hardship and challenge. The seeds of a true leader are planted however, and the reader begins to see the change from his focus on himself and his glory, to that of his people. His focus will begin to switch to that of others, not just himself. This however will take time to take root and really change his character. For the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their horses galloping without rest, soldier horses. These bad boys would kick you until you stop breathing. Well this is new, I said to myself. Citizens! one shouted, Your presence is requested at the royal palace of the king. The villagers started whispering all the sudden. Last time soldiers came, nine people went missing including 3 children. I deeply didn t care about this because I spent 23 hours a day working in the mines. I m a miner hence the name Miner. Their bleeding feet told without words. One even started begging the soldiers. The soldier didn t give her anything, but he did give meat for the wolves. This kingdom is ruled by fear, I thought to myself. More days have passed and more bodies have fallen, seven in total. All were just peasants trying to make a living. The village let out a heavy sigh when we finally reach the castle. It was sturdy castle, but definitely outdated. Any nation in the world can destroy it in a few days. All around the castle were slaves picking apples in cruel conditions. It was actually better than some jobs like farmer. They had enough food and could always rely on shelter. The funny thing was that they tried not to look at us. That s when I realize they were actually trying to hide their faces. Something was wrong here and only one person was to blame, King ... The conflict has been happening for years now with Israel and Palestine fighting over the region of Gaza. The conflict began with a debate over Palestine and Israel disagreeing over which country gets control over what part of the land. The primary approach was to give Palestine the control of the state of Gaza and the West Bank, and leaving the rest of the land to Israel. This plan they came up with was called the two state solution which was supposed to help reduce less conflict. • 8. Criminalization Of Non-Disclosure When one thinks of looking at the experiences of people who have HIV/AIDS, two things may come to mind. The first thing may be the diversity of people who are actually living with HIV /AIDS around them. The second thing may be is how frequently and in how many ways people with HIV/AIDS are stigmatized and discriminated against. That being said, sometimes it may appear that all the people who are living with HIV/AIDSmay be alike in only two ways such as having contracted the HIV/AIDS infection and being stigmatized and discriminated against for having HIV/AIDS. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If having HIV is not hard enough on a person, the experiences of people living with HIV have been made more complex by the increase in criminalization of HIV non disclosure. Criminalization of non disclosure does nothing but create more stigma against people with HIV as well as create a deep fear in people living with HIV. People who are living with HIV are made to fear the legal system due to their disease, they are no longer given the right to choose whether or not they disclose to their intimate partners but they must do so in order to avoid being labeled a sex offender or incarcerated. Criminalization is not an effective way to stop the transmission of HIV/AIDS but it is an effective way into scaring people so deeply that they feel like they are left without any human rights, family, friends, or dignity. That being said, saying that criminalization will prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS is like saying that traffic signs will stop people from speeding in regards to non disclosure, meaning it is not going to happen. Criminal law may be needed in some extreme situations; for example, if a person has intent to transmit HIV to another person, but what is happening more frequently in Canada is that there is more of an expansive use of the criminal law. With this, the law and order approach does virtually nothing to stop HIV transmission but what it does do is stigmatize people living with and at risk of HIV, and is undermining proven HIV prevention strategies and ... • 13. The Human Impact On Natural Environment The human impact on natural environment is one of the most pressing issues of contemporary times and a subject of discussion. The increasing human population and the rising level of technology both have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are several environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and humancauses. Of all the global environmental problems, desertificationis, perhaps, the most threatening problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert areas. Today in many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the world soon we will not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is human activities and the other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of desertification is human activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation, Mismanagement of irrigation, Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and exploitation of resources etc. All human causes are related to over population. Due to overpopulationthere is great pressure on land and resources. According to Neo Malthusian, demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of resources (Malthus, 1798). Dearest Friend of England, 1776 I know it is hard to believe we (the colonists) would be on the verge of a revolution against our own homeland. My father has explained to me the reasons we deserve independence from God, the King, and the British people. There are many things going on in the colonies to lead us to our current thoughts. Several colonists dressed as Indians to deceive the British. These colonists seized the imported tea and dumped it into the harbor. The colonists dubbed this the tea party. The British responded to these actions by creating four acts jointly called the Coercive Acts. These acts closed the Boston ports to all trade, increased power of Massachusetts governor, granted trials of royal officials in Massachusetts be tried elsewhere, and allowed the new governor rights to quarter his troops anywhere. These Coercive Acts only angered the colonists more. They have strengthened their non importation of British goods. They have also begun the forming of local militia companies. The Air Force used novel strategies and adopted several new roles in during Vietnam that had never been used in previous wars or conflicts. In addition to these tactics, new technology and weapons emerged during this time period that changed the way that the Air Force would be utilized in conflicts and wars from that point on. Only one British soldier was injured, but the American Revolution had begun. At this point it was obvious to see that the British had a bigger and better army, and the American only had the militia. Ms. Babbit, the author, makes you feel like the characters are right next to you. She makes them feel like they are right when they are wrong. For example, when Mae Tuck kills the man in the Yellow Suit, you feel she is in the right like she s done absolutely nothing wrong. And the same thing happens when the Tucks kidnap Winnie Foster, it just seems meant to be. The style of Tuck Everlasting is amazing, the descriptiveness is beautiful, and the simplicity is.... simple! More people should definitely read Tuck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Radiation is not something most people face on a daily basis, but for the town of Prypiat in the Ukraine it is a barren wasteland because of it. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster was the worst nuclear catastrophe to have ever occurred and, is a perfect example of what can happen when the blind and unmasked furry of atomic power is left unharnessed. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is near the town of Prypiat, Ukraine, 18 km northwest of the city of Chernobyl, 16 km from the border of Ukraine and Belarus, and about 110 km north of Kyiv. Therefore, the test program was not formally coordinated with either the chief designer of the reactor, nor with the scientific manager. Instead, it was approved only by the director of the plant. According to the test parameters, at the start of the experiment, the thermal output of the reactor should have been no lower than 700 MW. If the conditions of the reactor had been as planned, the test almost certainly would have proceeded safely. The eventual disaster resulted from attempts to boost the reactor output once the experiment had started, inconsistent with the approved procedure. (Marples 39 43) The Chernobyl power plant had been in operation for two years without the capability to ride through the first 60 75 seconds of a total loss of electric power. The station managers wished to correct this at the first opportunity. This may explain why they continued the test, even when serious problems arose, and why the requisite approval for the test was not sought from the Soviet nuclear oversight regulator. (Gale 22 25) At 1:23:04 a.m. the experiment began, the steam to the turbines was shut off, and a run down of the turbine generator began, together with the four Main Circulating Pumps (MCP). The diesel generator started and sequentially picked up loads, which was complete by 01:23:43; during this period the power for these four MCPs was supplied by the coasting down turbine generator. • 44. Horse Creative Writing I walked past stalls of horses to a new off track thoroughbred named Damien serenely peering into the aisle. My trainer had asked me to ride him. As I picked his hooves and curried his chestnut flanks, he was as tranquil as autumn leaves in a gentle breeze until he saw the saddle, then he became a tornado whirling around the center of the stall. I lead him by leather reins to the outdoor ring where my trainer would see him work for the first time. He trotted circles around me and spooked at the wind. I returned to the barn and let him run and buck so he could burn off extra energy. When I heard my trainer s golf cart stop in front of the barn, I caught him and prepared to mount. My trainer arrived and held his bridle while I put my foot in the stirrup. When foot made contact with iron, the horse bolted. He spun himself in circles around my trainer while I balanced half on, half off struggling to find the saddle and my balance. As soon as I was seated, the horse was loose. I gathered my reins and sat as calmly as I could. Suddenly, he bucked and threw me forward. As I fell onto his neck, he continued bucking. My trainer yelled, Sit up! Pick his head up! Automobiles were obviously much lighter. Suspension bridge design had been envolving into producing bridges of maximum grace, lightness and flexibility which actually was more suited for carrying lighter cars and not heavier train. Unfortunately, engineers did not fully understand the response of the suspension bridge design to these poorly understand forces. The second reson was due to the excitation of torsional mode. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge was built with shallow plate girders instead of the deep stiffening trusses of railway bridges, in which trusses allowed wind to pass through but plate girders, on the other hand, present an obstacle to the wind. As a result of its design, it was proved that the bridge was too light and unstable. And causing о ©alloping Gertieaction which were driven by the wind were being experienced by the bridge. Through the use of economic concepts and the book Cocktail Party Economics, the change in prices can be explained further in depth. While any Blue Jays enthusiast could tell that the price boost is due to the increase in the team s popularity, one with a working knowledge of economics could explain that the price increase is a factor of scarcity, demand equilibrium. Scarcity, simply put, is the underlying reason why economics and markets exist: the fact that there is not enough of a good for everyone who wants one to have one. There is a limited number of seats in a stadium, and thus there is a limit to the number of tickets to sell, resulting in only the most dedicated and faithful fans paying large prices to see the playoff games. After the Jays improved performance in the regular season and the increased popularity of the team, it would be easy to simply say that playoff tickets are in higher demand. However, we must turn to economics to explain why demand has increased. Demand refers to how much of a good the market will buy at any given price. For this reason, it is important to understand that price changes, whether they be increasing or decreasing, do not change demand В they change the quantity demanded. During the first half of the baseball season, the Blue Jays had a worse record and were not expected to be in the playoff team for that simple reason that they rarely sold out their games, despite the tickets being at a lower price point than present. However, today tickets sell out mere hours after being put to market as consumer preferences changed in favour of the team.
