This presentation discusses pilling, which is the formation of small balls of fiber on fabric surfaces caused by abrasion during wear. Pilling occurs due to factors like wear, rubbing, fiber migration, heat, soft yarn, and excess short fibers. Methods to reduce pilling include using high-twist yarn, air jet spinning to reduce fiber migration, increasing fiber density and thread count, singeing to reduce hairiness, and longer fibers. A pilling test involves sewing seams in fabric samples and tumbling them in a box for 5 hours at 18,000-36,000 revolutions to evaluate pilling.
