Rhitorical Appeals in Literature Essay
Throughout the Three pieces of literature I read Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, Crazy Courage
by Alma Luz Villanueva, and Theme for English B by Langston Hughes, multiple claims are implied
on the subject of knowledge and individual power. Whether it is about Race, being different, or the
struggle to survive, they all point towards the same direction. They all show that being strong, proud,
and courage is what makes you individually powerful, even if others may look down upon you or
think of you as weird. Through the use of the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, these three
authors truly move the readers to really accept what they are trying to prove. In Superman and Me by
Sherman Alexie, the narrator s claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, the author talks about a man named Michael that
she met in her fiction class, who, as she later finds out, is a cross dresser. Using the rhetorical appeal
Pathos, the author truly proves her point that other people s opinions do not matter so long as you are
courageous and confident about yourself. In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he
is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all
MTV crowd / into silence (Villanueva 20 23). The class was so shocked at the confidence of the
person in front of them considering his situation that they couldn t even speak. In fact, even those who
would kill him were impressed at the level of courage he must have had, and the fact that he seemed
even happier in the seemingly odd clothes and outfit he was wearing (Villanueva 27). Last but not
least is the poem Theme for English B by Langston Hughes. The author Langston Hughes seems to
use more of a Logical appeal. While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a
doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to
knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. In my opinion, the
author is trying to show that even though he is of a different race than his white teacher, and even
though he is

Snow Removal Persuasive Essay
Has your car ever skidded on the road getting out of your neighborhood because of snow build up?
Snow removal is a big issue if it does not get taken care of correctly. In Violet Township, it can take a
while for the smaller roads to get plowed, if at all. There are many reasons that snow needs to be
removed. For one, snow buildup can be very unsafe or those who drive on it. Looking in depth at the
problem of a lack of snow removal and how it affects people, as well as going into how what the new
policy should be as well as others available and how they could be implemented.
The problem being looked at is snow removal and why it should be a public policy. The lack of snow
removal can harm those who drive on the covered roads. This is an important issue because many
people have been hurt or harmed because of lack of removal. According to Safe Winter Roads, there
are more than 116,000 injuries and over 1,300 deaths in America due to snow and ice per year. If the
snow was taken care of correctly, then the amount of injuries and deaths would go ... Show more

This has many benefits including letting personal drivers in the community be a part of the snow
removal process. This also has the ability to delegate the problem out to other sources to help alleviate
the problem. One disadvantage to this solution is that it the cost would rise. Snow removal is already
something that takes quite a bit of money to accomplish. According to Butcher, snow and ice removal
costs are usually on the order of $150,000 to $200,000 per year. This includes labor, fuel, and salt . To
be able to hire private people to plow the small streets would add more money to the cost. The best
way to get the extra money would be to raise taxes for the people that reside in Violet Township.
Many people are not found of paying taxes, let alone raising the cost, therefore many people may not
be found of this

The Classroom Observation
Classroom observation is a main approach of teaching research. Scholars or researchers use video to
record the real whole class and observe the teachers and students actions, words and the efficiency in
the class. Though the observation, they analyze what approach is more suitable. This paper will select
video 5 and video 3 as the material to do the classroom observation. Different aspects such as teachers
responds, questions, instructions notes and students behavior will be addressed to analyze the efficacy
of this class.

The theme of english lesson in Video 3 is job interview with a large number of students, nearly as
many as fifty, who are native Chinese teenagers while teacher may be a native English speakers( at
least good at English). Because of the education system in China, most of the Chinese students study
English from Grade 3 in primary school, who already have some basic English vocabulary and
grammar storage like simple greeting, food, verbs about movement and so on though not mastery in
them. Meanwhile, They are capable of making simple sentence. Therefore, teacher began to teach
students some English skills, like listening, in middle school. The lesson is divided into three parts:
pre listening, while listening, post listening. In the pre listening part, this teacher lead students review
some details about the listening transcript. While listening, students answer the question sheet and

Explain Why The Chicago Cubs Beat The Cardinals
Why the Cubs Beat the Cardinals Did you know that the Chicago cubs and St. Louis cardinals have
never played each other in the playoffs till 2015. The Chicago cubs and St. Louis cardinals have been
rivals since the late 19th century, but back then they were called the Chicago white stockings and the
St. Louis brown stockings. The rivalry between them has been filled with hatred, friendship, and a lot
of games between the two organizations. The cubs played the cardinals in the NLDS this year and won
in four games 3 1. The cubs won the series by home runs, good pitching, and a healthy team. The
Chicago cubs hit ten home runs in those four games against St. Louis, including setting a record for
most homeruns in a postseason game with six.

The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America
Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government
did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the
California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied the
right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking basic
constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate
instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on freedom of marriage.
The first anti miscegenation law in America was established over 350 years ago, in Colonial Maryland
under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African American slaves, and deemed that
any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave herself. However, this failed to draw
distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not criminalize the white man who wed a black
woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage,
deeming violators to be penalized with exile or death. Those that were found ministering
miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets
soon after.
Despite some states constituting strict marriage laws, other states upheld various other political values
in their legal systems. Soon after gaining statehood, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts repealed

The s Equine And Aquatic Therapy Services
Bethany s Equine and Aquatic Therapy Services, Incorporated, more widely known as BEATS, Inc., is
a treatment facility that utilizes both hippotherapy and aquatic therapy for children with a variety of
disabilities (BEATS, n.d.). Aquatic therapy employs the use of water as a means to treat various
conditions by aiding in reducing chronic pain and enabling a wider range of motion (Oeverman, n.d.).
Hippotherapy is a lesser known method of treating mental, physical, and sensory disabilities by using
horses. When ridden, the movements of the horses spine and hips mimic the movements of walking or
running for those who cannot. Even when stationary, the horses consistent breathing stimulates the
muscles of the individual riding that cannot be as readily stimulated with the use of any other
mechanism (B. Nugent, personal communication, February 25, 2016). This unique form of therapy
enables individuals to work on balance and strength. Above all, hippotherapy is incredibly beneficial
in enhancing the motivation of disabled clients. Because the children are used to clinical settings, they
do not realize that the session is a part of their treatment; instead, they are simply having fun. As the
occupational therapist walks close by, often times engaging the child with the use of props,
photographs, or games, they are still able to work with the child in the areas of need (Applegate,
2011). BEATS incorporates these two methods as a way of engaging disabled children and efficiently

The Sport Of Soccer And Football
Today, there are many popular sport which involved players getting injured during the game. The most
talked about sport of all time are soccer and football. They are the number one sport in the world.
They are both loved by people around the world and everybody enjoy every minute of watching the
player play the sports. The problem is that the player always seem to get injured from this sport but
the cause of their injured are different from each other. Between soccer and football, the most common
injuries are knee and ankle injured. Soccer players often get injured more often than football players,
whenever they are on the field. In between this two sport, it seems like someone always get injured
whenever the event is held.
First, the cause of the injured between soccer and football different from each other. Both the soccer
and football player would twist their ankle and hurt their knee during the game. For soccer players, the
cause of their injured are running and kicking the ball all over the field and sometimes twist their
ankle while running. Sometimes for soccer players while they have the ball the other team would sly
kick the ball and miss; but when that person missed, the sly kick would hit the other player knee or
ankle and it would result in the other person getting injured. However for football players, the only
way to get injured is they would have to be tackle down by other players; if they want to get injured.
Their chance of getting injured are very low

Use Of Flashbacks Analysis
Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept I will
be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks are about.
First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash and what her
personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not know what
happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe does not want to
live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she has these feelings.
Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read more. Secondly, another
reason on why the author uses flashbacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She shows us on how she wants to fight and how she does not want to fight to wake up from her
coma. The nurses has been trying to give her encouragement and that it is her choice to stay alive. An
example from the book would be .... adjusts my IV and my monitors with the other. Then she smooths
a lock of hair from my forehead. You hang in there, she tells me (Foreman 22). As one can see from
this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she has a chance to live if she
believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she will survive to wake up. Lastly,
the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is an extremely talented musician.
Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live. Mia lived in a household where rock
and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was quite unique and different out of her
family because she took a liking to classical music and was extremely skilled at playing the cello. Mia
has succeeded the standards for her age in the cello and she has auditioned for Juilliard in hoping that
she will be one of the best. The author use the flashback to show her growing up playing the cello and
showing the audition for

Factors That Affect The Activity Of Contractile Activity
During prolonged activity, muscles show a decline in ability to respond to stimulation with optimal
levels of contractile activity; this is a phenomena denoted as muscle fatigue (MF) (1). The causes of
MF are not yet understood, however there are many observations of associations between metabolic
and biochemical factors with MF. In order for force to be generated by muscles, calcium ions which
are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum bind to troponin. The new troponin Ca2+ complex cause
s tropomyosin to change shape, exposing the binding site on actin. Myosin then binds to actin, causing
cross bridge tilting, and generating contraction (1).
Lactic acid is commonly perceived as a primary cause of MF to due to its intracellular muscle acidosis
effects. Acidosis lowers the sensitivity of the contractile apparatus to calcium ions, because the H+
ions competes against Ca2+ for binding to certain binding sites on troponin. (2).This leads to
decreased force development. However, low pH has many effects which do not favour development of
MF, such as its ability to help maintain excitability, and decreased rate of fatigue. Overall, there is
little evidence suggesting that the net effect of lactic acid results in MF.
Potassium ions is a metabolite which decreases calcium ion release from the SR. Shifts in levels of
potassium and calcium ions in and around skeletal muscle fibres will alter the membrane potential of
the muscle cell, making it more or less prone to stimulation.

Aschenputtel Character Traits
Character Analysis Essay Most of the time our life doesn t have a huge happy ending. Well in
Aschenputtel s case it does. In the Grimm brothers Aschenputtel, a girl, is forced to do grunt work by
her step family. One day there was a ball which was a chance for the prince to pick a wife. The evil
stepmother and step daughters went to the ball while aschenputtel finished up her chores. Aschenputtel
s trusty doves helped her out and gave her a beautiful dress and shoes to wear at the ball. When
Aschenputtel entered the ball no one recognized her. She and the prince danced all night long. After
going to the ball three times, the prince took quite a liking to her. While aschenputtel was running

the girl cut her toe off, squeezed her foot into the shoe, concealed the pain, and went to the prince. One
of the stepsisters cut of her toe while the other cut off her heel just to fit the golden slipper. They only
did it because their mother told them to. Even though the stepsisters new that they weren t the girl he

characters traits are cruel, brutal, and naive. The stepsisters character traits were shown when they

Philosophy Of Christian Education
All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy
3:16 17). Throughout the Bible, God mentions the importance of teaching children and young adults
the message of God s Word. The Bible equips us for our everyday lives of service. One of the ways we
can assist parents in this task of teaching their children is through Christian education. , I have formed
a philosophy of education using the light of God s Word and research from psychology scholars like
Piaget, Maslow, and Vygotsky. From these scholars, research, and God s Word, I know the uniqueness

God has given children caregivers as their first teacher. God says in Deuteronomy 6:6 7, These
commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk
about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when
you get up. Parents are responsible for teaching their children God s truth and teachers are blessed to
be entrusted to help parents accomplish this task. As a teacher, my goal is not to replace the caregiver
s instruction of their children, but instead I want to be a helper in the education of their child. I need to
be the support and encouragement for caregivers to help them teach their children. One way I can help
the parents is by communicating what is happening in the classroom and about what their child has
accomplished. I can be available to talk to parents whenever they need me. Open communication is
one of the best ways I can support parents. Some examples of this communication could be through
conferences, emails, text messages, and phone calls. Parents can support the teacher by helping their
student love learning. If a parent is excited about what is happening at school, the child may be more
excited. In addition parents can help by communicating with the teacher anything about the child that
may be helpful. Caregivers know so much more about the student than the teacher will,

The Forgotten Legion By Directed By Ridley Scott
The words veni, vidi, vici, or otherwise roughly translated as I came, I saw, I conquered , were spoken
by the man who could be considered as ancient Rome s most famous persona, Julius Caesar. These
three words have become iconic and synonymous with what can readily be labeled as ancient Roman
philosophy . It was an outlook that, in certain contexts, marginalized groups of people through slavery
while glorifying the image of honour and warfare. The Forgotten Legion, written by Ben Kane, ideally
follows the story of three men, two ex gladiators and an Etruscan prophesier, as they travel to the far
reaches of the Roman Republic s hold on Asia in a legion of soldiers to face the dangers of an

In the novel, The Forgotten Legion, and the film, Gladiator, the characters exhibit traits of
perseverance and strong determination when seeking to break away from Roman ideologies to fulfill
one s goals and aspirations.
Being labelled as slave was a harsh reality faced by the characters of The Forgotten Legion; moreover,
it was the ambition of the two gladiators to escape Rome and cut ties with their past. Being seen as a
slave meant that the characters, Romulus and Brennus, would be considered the property of the
gladiator school, Ludus Magnus, or amongst the lowest ranking in Roman society. After killing a
Roman patrician in an unforeseen scrap, both gladiators were confronted with an opportunity to
escape the city and free themselves from slavery. After leaving Rome, it becomes evident to both
characters that the only action that could negate their status as slaves was the removal of their brands:
Seeing the slave population [as they travelled through the countryside] had increased both men s
desire to discard all memories of their own captivity. Romulus and Brennus brands were permanent
evidence of their status ... [that left] only one solution. [Brennus] heated the blade over the flames
before removing the hated letter LM with a few deft cuts. (Kane 339)
The brand was a discernible indication for prompt execution for run away slaves; furthermore, the
implications of the mark stemmed any chance of the ex gladiators surviving very long outside of the

The Core Values Of The Good Samaritan Law
The duties of individuals to protect society from individual mistakes or accidents using the Good
Samaritan laws generally provide basic legal protection for those who assist a person who is injured or
in danger. Good Samaritan acts are laws designed to protect people who provide assistance at the site
of an emergency. In essence, these laws protect the Good Samaritan from liability if unintended
consequences result from their assistance and therefore they cannot be sued. However, in a few states,
legislation referred to as duty to rescue laws have been enacted which requires people in health care to
stop and help the injured. Also, Individuals have a moral responsibility to protect society referring to
the duty that individuals and groups have to act in accordance with the moral (respectable/virtuous)
principles that are important to their social communities and to humanity at large. Saint Leo
University core values of community, respect, and responsible stewardship are excellent examples of
the duties of individuals to protect society and help others in mistakes and accidents. The core value of
Community encourages belonging, unity, and interdependence based on mutual trust and respect to
create socially responsible environments that challenge all people to listen, learn, change, and serve.
The core value of Respect is to value all individuals unique talents, respecting their dignity, and

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut
The story is a satire, a parody of an ideological society divorced from common sense reality
(Townsend). As Townsend stated Kurt Vonnegut makes a satire about society in his fictional short
story Harrison Bergeron, which in their society there has been attempt of conformity through the
handicaps of the people, the similarity to an authoritarian government, and the technology, whereas
the people will eventually overcome. The Kind if government authority seen both mimics and satirizes
the way Americans came to see the enemy (the Soviet Union) during the Cold War, which was near its

television, which was invented by John Baird in 1926. In a Newton Minow speech he states that

Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall...
There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a
classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the
classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students
behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient
pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of
room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of
furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open
spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to
be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one
where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and
positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what
causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however,
since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the
misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but
walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii
Galton (2001),

How Does Self Awareness Affects And Impedes The Process Of...
As a future counselor, it is important that we realize how much self awareness plays apart in counselor
competence. Although the focus of the course is multicultural counseling, the lack of overall counselor
awareness affects and impedes the process of providing appropriate therapeutic care. It is vital that
you become aware of the assumptions, stereotypes, and biases you may have about clients who are
different from yourself on all the dimensions included in this framework (D Andrea, 2001).When I
speak of awareness, it s not just about bias, stereotypes, and difference in worldview, but in order to
increase personal and professional development as a counselor, you must be aware of resources and
agencies at your disposal that you can use to properly serve clients from all cultures.
When I look at when I started the course I was pretty sure that I was abreast and aware of what culture
is, and what it consists of, and honestly I was wrong. At this point, I have come to the realization that
culture is more than where you come from and a language, but it encompasses way more than that,
from your look, attitude, beliefs, values, and even how others view you. Personally, after taking the

Mo Yan s Red Sorghum
The novel of Red Sorghum written by Nobel prize winning Chinese novelist Guan Moye or more
commonly known as Mo Yan. This story speaks of the Second Sino Japanese War, which was a
military conflict between The Republic of China, and the Empire of Japan during the years of 1937
1945. Red Sorghum follows the massacres unleashed by the Imperialist Japanese forces in the Gaomi
province of Northern China. The Story is based off an outlaw named Yu Zhan ao and his life partner
Dai. The story also follows their son by the name of Dougan. The rest of the story concentrates on
flashbacks of the two protagonist, which developes into a story why they have come to be the way
they are. For example Dai s family had wed her off when she was just 16 years of age, in hopes they
would receive a healthy mule. But much of the story has to tell of Yu Zhan ao s guerilla ... Show more

As well as how hard life must have been for those fighting to survive everyday, never knowing which
day could be their last. Although the book was placed in the magic realism genre, I have visualized
what life would have been like for those living at this desperate and ruthless time. The brutality
pictured in this story has left a stamp in my head about how tough war can be, and the effects it will
have on people for the rest of their lives. The book also taught me that a hero can be disguised as
anybody, I would recommend this story to all students who take any form of Asian history. Due to the
fact that it will show them by detail how similar the two Asian countries are as well as how life is still
like that in places all over the world. The shared history of China and Japan dates back to centuries
ago and even today the impacts of the wars fought and the advancements each country has made can

The Thousand And One Night Essay
A Historical Criticism on The Thousand and One Night The Thousand and One Nights has an ever
changing influence on the cultures around the world bring us tales of some of the most famous
characters such as Aladdin, Ali baba, Sinbad and many more. No one really know what the origins of
the text are from but most people assume it is possibly an Arab text or a Persian text. I ll be discussing
about how no one really knows that the origins of the text is or what the original work looked like.
Also explaining how people around the world have interpreted the text over the years and how it has
influenced cultures around the world over the centuries. So let s begin talking about the theories of the
origin of the text and the common assumptions about it. The intriguing tale of The Thousand and One
Nights is considered a collection of stories written by various unknown authors over the centuries. The
first known document bearing evidence of these tales was a single paper of very rare paper from Syria
that dated back to 879 C.E. ( The Thousand and One Nights, 553). Throughout the centuries more was
found about the tales and more was added to the work, including the Arabian title for the tales Alf
Layla Wa Layla or The Thousand and One Nights. Overall most people assume that the stories
originated from the Arabian or Persian culture since the stories seem to be influenced by Middle
Eastern qualities. In the paper East Meets West Bottigheimer points out how that the Thousand

A Report On The Global Crisis
On December 15th, 2014, Uber implemented price surging, that charged its users a minimum $100
(USD $85) to escape an armed hostage crisis in downtown Sydney. The intro of quadrupled price
caused overwhelming criticism by both riders and drivers on social media and traditional media. Uber
responded quickly to those criticism, but their response was not accepted. The company at first
responded to media by defending its move as necessary to encourage more drivers to pick up
passengers when demand is high. It posted on Twitter: After Uber s first response, lots of people
posted complaints on social media and contacted media outlet expressing their anger. Uber drivers and
riders were absolutely not satisfied with the company s response. A driver complained to Mashable
that he understood the way the business worked higher the demand, higher the charge but four times at
$100 minimum was ridiculous. Then after about an hour, Uber shifted into reverse tone, began
refunding rides to Sydney customers and offering free rides. The headlines and descriptions from
different media outlets are various. For example, Financial Times wrote Uber drivers into Sydney
hostage controversy , which was relatively impartial and mild. Another headline from Quartz wrote
Uber offers free rides to make up for its idiotic response to Sydney s hostage crisis , the tone of which
was a little bit more intense. Uber spokesperson Katie Curran responded that We are all concerned

Standardized Testing Is A Crucial Part Of Today s Federal...
Standardized testing is a crucial part of today s federal education structure; one that is both highly
supported and criticized at all levels. The main point of this roundtable, and the chosen excerpts from
the authors on the subject, is to discern and debate both the necessity of and the role that multiple
choice testing plays in teaching history. This subject is relevant to us as history teachers because it
opens up the floor for discussions about the need to either continue, reform, or completely scrap
multiple choice testing from the history standard of secondary education in today s society. The
discussions for this roundtable are stationed around six excerpts from different history education
scholars. The centerpiece of this discussion, at least from my interpretation, is a piece from a retired
history department head of Princeton University named Theodore K. Rabb. The excerpt of his writing
details a more negative critique of multiple choice testing from the history aspect of public education.
Rabb explains that the teach to the test mentality of multiple choice examinations is an inherent
failure; due to the fact that there are so many different aspects of history to teach. He states that
teachers should be able to teach students on the different historical aspects that interest them as
educators, while still following a core structured timeline, instead of having to follow a strict package
of historical tidbits for a test. Rabb then explains that multiple choice

Excessive Activity Fees
Excessive Activity Fees
If your current account/ checking account/ debit account has an excessive activity fee, then you need
to change banks immediately unless your account is special in some way. Savings accounts will often
have a fee for excessive activity because Federal Regulation D is a law that defines a savings account
as one where users make no more than six withdrawals or transfers per statement cycle or calendar
month.
In other words, a bank may charge you a fee if you withdraw money or transfer money from your
savings account more than six times per month. They may charge you a fee to discourage you from
using your savings account in a manner that is contrary to its federal definition. Many banks will give
you a warning if you move money from your savings account more than six times in a month, and
some will start to refuse transactions if you try to transfer/withdraw more than six times per month.
Avoid
Stop transferring money out of or stop withdrawing money out of your savings account as often. Keep
your money in your checking account if you need to withdraw it or transfer it that often. Try planning
ahead to ensure you do not move money from your savings account as often as six times per month.
Better still, withdraw a larger amount at one time so you do not have to keep dipping into your ...

Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
Game Theoretic Approach to Detect Selfish Attacker in Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
Abstract In wireless communication, spectrum resources are utilized by authorities in particular fields.
Most of the elements in spectrum are idle. Cognitive radio is a promising technique for allocating the
idle spectrum into unlicensed users. Security shortage is a major challenging issue in cognitive radio
ad hoc networks (CRAHNs) that makes performance degradation on spectrum sensing and sharing. A
selfish user pre occupies the accessible bandwidth for their prospect usage and prohibits the progress
secondary users whose makes the requirement for spectrum utility. Game theoretic model is proposed
to detect the selfish attacker in CRAHNs. Channel state information (CSI) is considered to inform
each user s channel handing information. The two strategy of Nash Equilibrium game model such as
pure and mixed strategy for secondary users (SUs) and selfish secondary users (SSUs) are investigated
and the selfish attacker is detected. Moreover a novel belief updating system is also proposed to the
secondary users for knowing the CSI of the primary user. A simulation result shows that, game
theoretic model is achieved to increase the detection rate of selfish attackers.

Impact Of Reconstruction On African American Equality
The fight for African American equality has been present throughout the course of American history.
In the years following the Civil War, tensions were high between the two races, allowing for a series
of issues to arise. The Reconstruction Era addressed the inequality and attempted to provide aid to the
struggling African Americans, however many factors limited the government s ability to do anything.
Reconstruction failed in its goals to provide social, political and economic equality for African
Americans in the years following the Civil War.
Reconstruction tried to address the challenges that African Americans were facing, but racism was still
rooted in these efforts. In the years following the Civil War, a majority of white Americans still
continued to support white supremacy which lead to African Americans being denied of power, wealth
and position (Gillette 191). Denial of equality for African Americans led to an improvement in
government intervention. The Civil Rights Act of 1860 was enacted but failed to address big civil
rights issues, such as segregation, for African Americans (Gillette 197). The main reason that the
government failed in its efforts was due to the peoples unwavering feelings towards African
Americans. People s racist sentiments questioned if it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Long Should A Roof Fail Essay
Homeowners often ask the question, how long should a roof last? , yet there is no simple answer to
this query. Numerous factors play a role in the lifespan of a roof, from the type of shingles selected,
the climate in which the residence is located and roof maintenance. Sadly, many homeowners have a
new roof put on the home, then forget about it until a problem arises. They fail to inspect the roof
regularly, then when a storm hits or snow comes down, they hope and pray it holds up. Don t fall into
this category. With proper roof maintenance, a homeowner can feel secure, knowing their home is
protected by a strong and stable roof.
How Long Should A Roof Last?
The average roof, one constructed with asphalt shingles, should last a minimum of 20 to 25 years in
the event it is properly maintained. As the vast majority of homes in the United States currently have
an asphalt shingle roof, this applies to most homes. Metal roofs tend to be extremely durable and can
last 40 years or more, while tile roofs have an average lifespan of 50 years. Invest in a slat roof and it
may easily outlast the lifespan of the homeowner!

The Christian Old Testament Of The Bible Today
In the beginning, God created the Heauen, and the Earth. And the earth was without forme, and voyd,
and darknesse was vpon the face of the deepe: and the spirit of God mooued vpon the face of the
waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. (Genesis 1 3) So begins the first book of
the Christian Old Testament, the Hebrew Torah, one of the most recognizable texts in history. At least,
the text begins the King James Bible in 1611, itself arguably the most influential version or translation
of the Bible today. But this is not the original text. Surprisingly, the original scripture was not written
in Early Modern English in the 17th century in the British Isles, but in Hebrew and possibly Aramaic,
while the New Testament was written in Koine Greek. In fact, the original Hebrew looked nothing like
our Latin script of today. Hebrew is a Semitic language, and therefore an Afroasiatic one, while
English is Indo European, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who believes that the two
fall into a larger, connected language family besides some Indian nationalists who believe that all
languages are derived from Sanskrit, or Tamil. And although there is much borrowing and exchanging
of roots and words, modern English speakers have no mutual intelligibility with Hebrew. As Ralph
Waldo Emerson famously said in his Letters and Social Aims, Language is a city to the building of
which every human has brought a stone. It s a nice concept, and it would be hard

Summary Of The Night Circus, By Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus written by Erin Morgenstern depicts the tale of two lovers bound by a challenge that
forces them to compete against each other. It was a romantic tale, from which the reader can develop a
strong sense of emotion with the two lovers. In this novel, Morgenstern uses the character Bailey to
demonstrate the ideas of love, passion vs obsession and standing up for yourself. Love is a very
influential idea in the story, without it Bailey wouldn t have taken over the circus. However, Bailey s
obsession with the circus makes him abandon his family. Additionally, Bailey would not take over the
circus without him finally standing up for himself. Morgenstern engages the reader with an exciting
storyline and uses a large range of language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, from the earliest starting point to the end, characters are seen standing up for themselves. A
prominent example is when towards the end of the book, Bailey stands up for himself and his future.
With regards to Bailey s future, all his family is endeavouring to control his future. His grandma needs
him to head off to college, yet his father states he is taking control over the family farm and won t tune
in to anyone else. The easy thing to do would be to let the issue drop... Instead, and he is not entirely
certain why, he keeps the subject alive, bringing it up as often as possible. (Morgenstern 107) Despite
the fact that Bailey s dad won t tune in, Bailey continues pushing, winding up more forceful with what
he needs. In the end of the book Bailey goes to bat for himself and his future. When he is going out
with the goal to join the circus and is caught by his sister, he says, I don t care if you don t understand
that. Staying here won t make me happy. It will make you happy because you are insipid and boring,
and an insipid, boring life is enough for you. It s not enough for me. It will never be enough for me.
So, I m leaving. (Morgenstern 363) In this quote, Morgenstern uses repetition with the word it to
reinforce the importance of the message, build suspense and also stress the significance of the
message as this is a massive turning point in the story. In this passage Bailey

Analysis Of Hatred By Kristallnacht
We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is
devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.
When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. By helping one you can make a huge
difference, but you not helping someone that is going through something like bullying, is also making
a huge difference. Your letting the problem go on longer, the only way to be against it is to stand with
others that are going through a similar situation. Hatred is an emotion that begins with prejudice and
ends with bullying, vandalism, racism,or anti semitism. Without hatred in this world, we can have
equality. Hatred is everywhere we go but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t know anyone personally who has been bullied but by all the stories that i have heard i believe
have a good amount of information on how it can hurt that person being victimized. There are many
things that i learned about bullying and what it can do to someone or people around them. The main
thing i learned about bullying is that your not the problem its the bully that is going through something
and takes it out on someone else. Another thing is that by you bullying on someone else you can make
that person hard to go to places where they know you are going be present at, just to avoid you (for
example school). Another reason is that you can cause so much pain to the victim and their family.
Lastly if you take the bullying to extreme levels you can cause that person to take their live and cause
the family and friends pain. If you are caught bullying someone else you can be arrested. These are
things that i learned about bullying. By me learning all of this about bullying it makes me think on
how i would never have the guts to bully someone because you don t know what they are going
through already and you re just adding to it. Knowing you could be the reason that someone takes
their life or know you could be the one to cause a family pain would drive me crazy. I know that no
parent wants to go through something like that because i know my parents or any other parent would
want to know that there child

  • 2. Rhitorical Appeals in Literature Essay Throughout the Three pieces of literature I read Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, and Theme for English B by Langston Hughes, multiple claims are implied on the subject of knowledge and individual power. Whether it is about Race, being different, or the struggle to survive, they all point towards the same direction. They all show that being strong, proud, and courage is what makes you individually powerful, even if others may look down upon you or think of you as weird. Through the use of the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, these three authors truly move the readers to really accept what they are trying to prove. In Superman and Me by Sherman Alexie, the narrator s claim is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the poem Crazy Courage by Alma Luz Villanueva, the author talks about a man named Michael that she met in her fiction class, who, as she later finds out, is a cross dresser. Using the rhetorical appeal Pathos, the author truly proves her point that other people s opinions do not matter so long as you are courageous and confident about yourself. In the poem, Michael seems so courageous, even though he is dressed in woman s clothes and in front of an entire class, that it shocked / the young, seen it all MTV crowd / into silence (Villanueva 20 23). The class was so shocked at the confidence of the person in front of them considering his situation that they couldn t even speak. In fact, even those who would kill him were impressed at the level of courage he must have had, and the fact that he seemed even happier in the seemingly odd clothes and outfit he was wearing (Villanueva 27). Last but not least is the poem Theme for English B by Langston Hughes. The author Langston Hughes seems to use more of a Logical appeal. While it doesn t seem to be the most organized Poem, there is without a doubt some sort of claim. While it isn t necessarily the best example of a claim that relates to knowledge and individual power, it seemed like an interesting poem to write about. In my opinion, the author is trying to show that even though he is of a different race than his white teacher, and even though he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Snow removal is a big issue if it does not get taken care of correctly. In Violet Township, it can take a while for the smaller roads to get plowed, if at all. There are many reasons that snow needs to be removed. For one, snow buildup can be very unsafe or those who drive on it. Looking in depth at the problem of a lack of snow removal and how it affects people, as well as going into how what the new policy should be as well as others available and how they could be implemented. The problem being looked at is snow removal and why it should be a public policy. The lack of snow removal can harm those who drive on the covered roads. This is an important issue because many people have been hurt or harmed because of lack of removal. According to Safe Winter Roads, there are more than 116,000 injuries and over 1,300 deaths in America due to snow and ice per year. Snow removal is already something that takes quite a bit of money to accomplish. According to Butcher, snow and ice removal costs are usually on the order of $150,000 to $200,000 per year. This includes labor, fuel, and salt . To be able to hire private people to plow the small streets would add more money to the cost. • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Freedom Of Marriage In America Though current day California is home state to an extensive multi racial population, the government did not uphold the state s egalitarian values until a mere fifty years ago. When the pool of the California ethnic population began to broaden in the 20th century, many newcomers were denied the right to equal opportunities. Minorities suffered under the heavy hand of segregation, lacking basic constitutional rights and adequate political representation. Perhaps one of the most unfortunate instances of these anti democratic sentiments were the segregation limits set on freedom of marriage. The first anti miscegenation law in America was established over 350 years ago, in Colonial Maryland under British Law. The law inhibited whites from marrying African American slaves, and deemed that any white woman married to a slave would too become a slave herself. However, this failed to draw distinction between enslaved and free blacks, and did not criminalize the white man who wed a black woman. Soon after Maryland, the Commonwealth of Virginia banned all forms of interracial marriage, deeming violators to be penalized with exile or death. Those that were found ministering miscegenistic weddings were heavily fined. Many colonies followed Virginia and adapted these tenets soon after. Despite some states constituting strict marriage laws, other states upheld various other political values in their legal systems. Soon after gaining statehood, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts repealed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The s Equine And Aquatic Therapy Services Bethany s Equine and Aquatic Therapy Services, Incorporated, more widely known as BEATS, Inc., is a treatment facility that utilizes both hippotherapy and aquatic therapy for children with a variety of disabilities (BEATS, n.d.). Aquatic therapy employs the use of water as a means to treat various conditions by aiding in reducing chronic pain and enabling a wider range of motion (Oeverman, n.d.). Hippotherapy is a lesser known method of treating mental, physical, and sensory disabilities by using horses. When ridden, the movements of the horses spine and hips mimic the movements of walking or running for those who cannot. Even when stationary, the horses consistent breathing stimulates the muscles of the individual riding that cannot be as readily stimulated with the use of any other mechanism (B. Nugent, personal communication, February 25, 2016). This unique form of therapy enables individuals to work on balance and strength. Above all, hippotherapy is incredibly beneficial in enhancing the motivation of disabled clients. Because the children are used to clinical settings, they do not realize that the session is a part of their treatment; instead, they are simply having fun. As the occupational therapist walks close by, often times engaging the child with the use of props, photographs, or games, they are still able to work with the child in the areas of need (Applegate, 2011). • 11. Use Of Flashbacks Analysis Throughout this journal, I will be evaluating this section of the book. To begin, the first concept I will be evaluating will be why the author uses quite a bit of flashbacks and what the flashbacks are about. First, the author uses flashbacks for us to get a sense what happened before the crash and what her personal feelings are. The author uses flashbacks for us because the readers do not know what happened before the accident and for us to get a sense on why she wants to or maybe does not want to live. With the help of these we understand why she is feeling and the reason she has these feelings. Flashbacks also help us feel apart of the story and intrigue us to want to read more. Secondly, another reason on why the author uses flashbacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She shows us on how she wants to fight and how she does not want to fight to wake up from her coma. The nurses has been trying to give her encouragement and that it is her choice to stay alive. An example from the book would be .... adjusts my IV and my monitors with the other. Then she smooths a lock of hair from my forehead. You hang in there, she tells me (Foreman 22). As one can see from this quote this shows that Mia can hear what everyone is saying and that she has a chance to live if she believes in herself to live. Mia still has a chance to fight and she if she will survive to wake up. Lastly, the final reason that the author uses flashbacks is because she is an extremely talented musician. Forman uses this a aspect to strive for her to wake up and live. Mia lived in a household where rock and punk music were normal to listen to. (Forman) Mia was quite unique and different out of her family because she took a liking to classical music and was extremely skilled at playing the cello. Mia has succeeded the standards for her age in the cello and she has auditioned for Juilliard in hoping that she will be one of the best. • 12. Factors That Affect The Activity Of Contractile Activity During prolonged activity, muscles show a decline in ability to respond to stimulation with optimal levels of contractile activity; this is a phenomena denoted as muscle fatigue (MF) (1). The causes of MF are not yet understood, however there are many observations of associations between metabolic and biochemical factors with MF. In order for force to be generated by muscles, calcium ions which are released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum bind to troponin. The new troponin Ca2+ complex cause s tropomyosin to change shape, exposing the binding site on actin. Myosin then binds to actin, causing cross bridge tilting, and generating contraction (1). Lactic acid is commonly perceived as a primary cause of MF to due to its intracellular muscle acidosis effects. Acidosis lowers the sensitivity of the contractile apparatus to calcium ions, because the H+ ions competes against Ca2+ for binding to certain binding sites on troponin. (2).This leads to decreased force development. However, low pH has many effects which do not favour development of MF, such as its ability to help maintain excitability, and decreased rate of fatigue. Overall, there is little evidence suggesting that the net effect of lactic acid results in MF. Potassium ions is a metabolite which decreases calcium ion release from the SR. Shifts in levels of potassium and calcium ions in and around skeletal muscle fibres will alter the membrane potential of the muscle cell, making it more or less prone to stimulation. ... The Forgotten Legion By Directed By Ridley Scott The words veni, vidi, vici, or otherwise roughly translated as I came, I saw, I conquered , were spoken by the man who could be considered as ancient Rome s most famous persona, Julius Caesar. These three words have become iconic and synonymous with what can readily be labeled as ancient Roman philosophy . It was an outlook that, in certain contexts, marginalized groups of people through slavery while glorifying the image of honour and warfare. The Forgotten Legion, written by Ben Kane, ideally follows the story of three men, two ex gladiators and an Etruscan prophesier, as they travel to the far reaches of the Roman Republic s hold on Asia in a legion of soldiers to face the dangers of an unknown enemy. Being seen as a slave meant that the characters, Romulus and Brennus, would be considered the property of the gladiator school, Ludus Magnus, or amongst the lowest ranking in Roman society. After killing a Roman patrician in an unforeseen scrap, both gladiators were confronted with an opportunity to escape the city and free themselves from slavery. In essence, these laws protect the Good Samaritan from liability if unintended consequences result from their assistance and therefore they cannot be sued. • 19. Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall... There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton (2001), ... Although the focus of the course is multicultural counseling, the lack of overall counselor awareness affects and impedes the process of providing appropriate therapeutic care. It is vital that you become aware of the assumptions, stereotypes, and biases you may have about clients who are different from yourself on all the dimensions included in this framework (D Andrea, 2001).When I speak of awareness, it s not just about bias, stereotypes, and difference in worldview, but in order to increase personal and professional development as a counselor, you must be aware of resources and agencies at your disposal that you can use to properly serve clients from all cultures. When I look at when I started the course I was pretty sure that I was abreast and aware of what culture is, and what it consists of, and honestly I was wrong. At this point, I have come to the realization that culture is more than where you come from and a language, but it encompasses way more than that, from your look, attitude, beliefs, values, and even how others view you. Personally, after taking the multicultural assessment, I was disappointed because throughout the assessment I was sure that my score was going to be on the higher end. After receiving my score, I questioned how much I invest and immerse myself in other cultures besides my own. I also became aware of the fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Standardized testing is a crucial part of today s federal education structure; one that is both highly supported and criticized at all levels. The main point of this roundtable, and the chosen excerpts from the authors on the subject, is to discern and debate both the necessity of and the role that multiple choice testing plays in teaching history. This subject is relevant to us as history teachers because it opens up the floor for discussions about the need to either continue, reform, or completely scrap multiple choice testing from the history standard of secondary education in today s society. The discussions for this roundtable are stationed around six excerpts from different history education scholars. The centerpiece of this discussion, at least from my interpretation, is a piece from a retired history department head of Princeton University named Theodore K. Rabb. The excerpt of his writing details a more negative critique of multiple choice testing from the history aspect of public education. Rabb explains that the teach to the test mentality of multiple choice examinations is an inherent failure; due to the fact that there are so many different aspects of history to teach. He states that teachers should be able to teach students on the different historical aspects that interest them as educators, while still following a core structured timeline, instead of having to follow a strict package of historical tidbits for a test. Rabb then explains that multiple choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the years following the Civil War, tensions were high between the two races, allowing for a series of issues to arise. The Reconstruction Era addressed the inequality and attempted to provide aid to the struggling African Americans, however many factors limited the government s ability to do anything. Reconstruction failed in its goals to provide social, political and economic equality for African Americans in the years following the Civil War. Reconstruction tried to address the challenges that African Americans were facing, but racism was still rooted in these efforts. In the years following the Civil War, a majority of white Americans still continued to support white supremacy which lead to African Americans being denied of power, wealth and position (Gillette 191). Denial of equality for African Americans led to an improvement in government intervention. The Civil Rights Act of 1860 was enacted but failed to address big civil rights issues, such as segregation, for African Americans (Gillette 197). And the earth was without forme, and voyd, and darknesse was vpon the face of the deepe: and the spirit of God mooued vpon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. (Genesis 1 3) So begins the first book of the Christian Old Testament, the Hebrew Torah, one of the most recognizable texts in history. At least, the text begins the King James Bible in 1611, itself arguably the most influential version or translation of the Bible today. But this is not the original text. Surprisingly, the original scripture was not written in Early Modern English in the 17th century in the British Isles, but in Hebrew and possibly Aramaic, while the New Testament was written in Koine Greek. In fact, the original Hebrew looked nothing like our Latin script of today. Hebrew is a Semitic language, and therefore an Afroasiatic one, while English is Indo European, and you would be hard pressed to find someone who believes that the two fall into a larger, connected language family besides some Indian nationalists who believe that all languages are derived from Sanskrit, or Tamil. And although there is much borrowing and exchanging of roots and words, modern English speakers have no mutual intelligibility with Hebrew.
