1. Photographs For my front cover for my music magazine I took various photos before deciding which photograph to use.

2. In this image I like the framing around the subject, and I think the outdoors fits with my genre of magazine. However I chose not to us this image as the background seems to dominate the subject. We are not instantly drawn to the subject of the photo of the girl, and therefore wouldn’t attract the audience enough to sell the magazine. Also the lighting of this photograph isn't very professionally looking. It could be improved with proper lighting equipment. Photograph 1

3. This was another image I took with my front cover in mind. I like the position of the subject in this image, as your eye is drawn along the bottom of the dress making it a successful composition. However, it is difficult to see the subjects face and therefore doesn't draw you in. Also after researching several different types of music magazines I found it a common feature that the subject was facing towards the camera, and therefore this image doesn't follow the conventions of a music magazine. 4. This photo I felt fit with my chosen genre of a folk acoustic magazine, as the mis-en-scene of the nature of the outdoors and the banjo create a very folk atmosphere. However as a front cover I don’t think it works as effectively. Firstly the bright natural lighting in the background disguises the subjects face making it appear dark and difficult to distinguish. Also there is obvious distractions in the background like the guitar and the blanket on the floor which would be quite difficult to edit successfully. Photograph 3

5. This is another image I took with my front cover in mind. I like the composition of this image and think it fits with my folk acoustic genre. However there are obvious problems with this photograph. It is slightly out of focus which would look unfinished and unprofessional on a front cover. Also you are not instantly drawn to the main focus as it is quite a distracting and fussy background. Photograph 4

6. I really love the natural lighting in this image, and I think it conveys a summer atmosphere. The setting again fits with the conventions of my music magazine. However I didn’t choose this image as I think the right hand side of the image is wasted space and would appear random and out of place on the front cover. Also I don’t think it conveys the power and command that the front cover image should portray as it has got to sell the magazine to the targeted audience. Photograph 5

7. This was the image I chose for my front cover. However I have cropped it slightly to condense the wasted background areas. I chose this image because I think it really fits with my acoustic/folk conventions and you would expect to see it on a acoustic style magazine. I think the image is both powerful and calm. The upwards position of the girls head infers power and hope giving a positive connotation for the magazine. Also the way she is leaning on the post connotes a relaxed and informal type of magazine, yet the classy and sophisticated outfit brings class and refinement to the magazine. The mis-en-scene infers a natural atmosphere which supports the folk theme of the magazine. Photograph 6
