Peterhof is a palace and park ensemble located near St. Petersburg, Russia that is famous for its elaborate fountains, palaces, and statues. It was created in the early 18th century under Tsar Peter the Great and was modeled after Versailles in France. During World War II, the park was severely damaged as the Germans captured it and destroyed many of its buildings and sculptures. After the war, restoration efforts were undertaken and today Peterhof operates as a state museum, attracting many visitors including the author's family and friends.
