Analysis Of Nell Guthrie Sat On The Town Dock With Her...
Later that evening, Nell Guthrie sat on the town dock with her beau, Asa Davis. A rain cloud
had passed over and drenched Beaufort while Nell was eating supper with her mother and father,
but now the western sky was streaked with a sunset of orange, fuchsia and hints of chartreuse.
The cloudburst washed the movement out of the air, leaving behind a humid tranquility.
Leaning toward her, Asa nuzzled his paramour s ear, making her tremble. Where you been hidin
out, lover? Has your daddy been working you hard? She returned the kiss, teasing him with her
lips. Daddy let me have the afternoon off so I could clam for supper tonight. I thought I saw you
leave the store. Then I stopped by your house to deliver some laudanum for your mother.
Thrilled that he was thinking of her throughout the day, she answered, You know you have boys
who make deliveries for you. I wanted to see my girl. As she burrowed her face into his chest,
she inhaled his familiar scent of perspiration and spicy bay rum. Shifting around, she nestled her
back into Asa s solid chest and shoulder. When he wrapped his arms around her, and she could
feel the rhythmic beating from his heart. Moored work boats filled the glassy, calm harbor, many
of them on their way to the Northeast after a winter in the South and the Caribbean. Since land and
sea were in a constant tussle for wind in Nell s coastal town, it was unsettling to her when it died.
When Asa began to caress her arm, a haunting penny

The Labour Uprising Of 1924- A Probe Essay
THE LABOUR UPRISING OF 1924 A PROBE Aashima Chargotra1, Nitin Chandel2, Ph.D.
Research Scholar, Department of History, University of Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Nitinchandel19@gmail.com. Cellular: 9797693019 Abstract: This study analyses the labour
uprising in the Jammu and Kashmir State and its varied repercussions. For the first time the
labourers stirred in an open revolt against the oppressive behaviour of the officials and protested
against the working conditions of the factory. This paper is an endeavour to depict the labour unrest
due to genre glitches of labourers like poverty, backwardness, illiteracy, insufficiency of wages,
corruption of the officials and oppression of the scrutinizing staff. The article enumerates the
significance of the agitation, modes of protests, meetings, petitions, grievances and tussle for their
rights which equip grounds for other labour movements in the state. The Muslim organisation
inside and outside the state support and promulgates its compass till it burst in the form of labour
uprising. A brief sketch of the evolution of class consciousness among the labourers had been
established which set an example for the downtrodden masses to fight for their rights. The agitation
was an eruption against the existing economic organisation of the state and their anguish against
the princely rule of the state. Key words: Labour, Silk, Factory, wages, officials and grievances.

Importance Of Crime Scene Reconstruction
Crime scene reconstruction is one of many profiling techniques used to build a profile for an
offender or to solve a crime. Crime scene reconstruction uses forensic science. First Assumptions
are made about how the crime was carried out. Then deductive and inductive reasoning is used to
support the theory of how the crime occurred. All piece of evidence at the crime scene is Analyzed.
Investigators will conduct interviews of the victim if alive, or potential witness, family members
and close friends. The Crime scene must be photographed and the locations of all objects of the
crime scene are documented. It s important that nothing at the crime since is move till photos and

Pattern evidence also results from the fracture, breaking or cutting of an object. bloodstain patterns,
glass fracture patterns, fire burn patterns, furniture position patterns, Tire or skid mark patterns
clothing article damage, and injury or wound patterns. Are the most common patterns that
investigators will study to build a profile. Recognition to Identification to Individualization to
Interpretation then to Reconstruction are the basic stages of reconstruction of pattern evidence.
Basic bloodstain patterns can give investigators vital information about a crime scene. For a while
law enforcement was not a big on using bloodstain patterners to solve crimes, but now they use the
method more and more. Bloodstain pattern analysis gives you facts surrounding the crime scene by
using the physical nature of the bloodstain. The evaluation of bloodshed is to determine the
actions that created the bloodstains at the crime scene. The size, shape, and distribution of
bloodstains found at a crime scene can be used to remodel the event that took place. Bloodstain
can be tested too for DNA that will tell you if all the blood is come for one person or if someone
else in object used to cause bloodshed. Those are just some of the example that reconstruction can
be used to study bloodstains. Bloodstain patters fall into three different categories. The dropping
bloodstain patterns, impacted bloodstain spatters, and special bloodstain configuration. The

Personal Narrative-Title Match Between Me And Bruno...
Ironically, the one match I remember best from that three year reign is one that never took
place: a 1965 title versus title match between me and Bruno Sammartino. It would have united
two of the three existing titles and made an awful lot of money for everyone involved if it had
occurred, and I m sorry it didn t. The only satisfaction I derive from thinking about it is that I
once again and for the final time, as it turned out repaid Toots Mondt for the way he had treated
me and all the boys almost 30 years earlier in southern California. It was the New York swifties
who suggested the match. They called Sam Muchnick and said they wanted a meeting to discuss
some mutual business, so Sam and I flew to Chicago to meet them Toots, Vince... Show more

The Positive Impact Of The Roaring Twenties
Post war years have significant impacts on a society s economy, bringing an abundance of
celebration, cherished moments and highlighting the end of the plagued events of war and loss.
With the end of such an afflicted time period, the arrival of solidarity and unification in society
usually follows. The Roaring Twentiesaccomplished many positive changes in Canadian society,
building the path it needs to follow to become a great nation and progress into the future. The
time period was regarded as a time of excitement and prosperity concerning the fads, fashions, and
entertainment, as well as the freedom many people gained with the end of the war. Furthermore,
the Roaring Twenties can also be seen as a time of positive change due to a variety of factors such
as Canadas developing autonomy and political relationship with Britain, pushing Canada to become
an independent nation. Another factor would be the Canadian industries and economy that
flourished during the 1920swhich allowed many Canadian businesses to prosper and enabled
Canadians to acquire and enjoy an improved quality of life. Finally, the change in societal status
and role of women established the starting point of gender equality between men and women, as
well as the recognition of the various contributions that women were capable of bringing to society.
Before the 1920s, Canada made decisions on its domestic matters independently. It was only during
the 1920s that Canada began to take an independent approach in

Role Of Financial Aid In Education
How Does Financial Aid Work?
Financial aid is a sensational implement for students all around the world. It is done in several
different ways and benefits the lives of an abundance of people. Different levels of government
work together to fund students by providing programs like FAFSA, for example. The federal
government ensures the cooperation of state and local governments by providing funds to help
them implement important programs. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
It can be assembled yearly by current and incoming college students in the United States to

for kids who are homeless called the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. They
work with federal partners to allow those students to have a proper education as well.
At Collin College varying levels of government work in conjunction to give students who don t have
the chance the opportunity for a cheaper way to continue their education. Collin College is a local
way that students get funded but it still uses the involvement of the government to get ahold of the
funds. Whether if it s through grants or loans, a student still gets an education that is more cost
efficient than most other places. This community college is a great way for students to further their
education no matter what circumstance they might be in.

There is never a shortage of corpses when you live in a small village between two waring

The Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega 3 Fatty Acids Fatty Acids have a linked chain of carbon atoms. These atoms can be
unsaturated or saturated. Saturated means that there is only a single bond in carbon atoms, which
leaves hydrogen to have the rest of them. Unsaturated means that there has to be at least once
carbon atom that needs to have a double bond. In the case of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Essential Fatty
acids are polyunsaturated. Polyunsaturated fat is fat that has a lot of double bonds in between
carbon atoms. They have to contain at least two double bonds. A double bond is when there are
two atoms that share two electrons. In all omega 3 fatty acids, the first double bond is located
between the third and fourth carbon atom counting from the methyl end of the fatty acid(n 3)
(Higdon). There is a double bond that is the first on the carbon chain in between the third and
forth chain. These double bonds are on a carbon chains which are in all omega 3 fatty acids.
Another example of another fatty acid is omega 9. Omega 9 has its first double bond in between
the ninth and tenth carbon atom. Omega 3 fatty acids are very good for a person to have. There
are different types of omega 3 fatty acids that we as humans can put into our diet. The two major
types of omega 3 fatty acids are alpha linolenic acid (ALA) and the other is eicosapentaenoic acid
(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Alpha linolenic acids are found in plants. ALA is known
for being a short chain omega 3 acid, unlike EPA and

Air Defense Artillery On The Vietnam War Essay
Air Defense Artillery s Role in the Vietnam War

(INTRODUCTION) In August 1964, Vietnamese DRV torpedo boats attacked two U.S. destroyers
in the Gulf of Tonkin. President London B. Johnson ordered the retaliatory bombing of military
targets in North Vietnam. Shortly after the incident, U.S. congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin
Resolution, giving President Johnson war making powers, and U.S. planes began regular bombing
raids (Reference http://www.history.com/topics/vietnam war/vietnam war history ). In Vietnam, the
US enjoyed virtual air supremacy. Nevertheless, Air Defense Artillery(ADA) units were able to
distinguish themselves and prove their versatility by providing fire support to ground forces.
ADA earned more than 450 medals for valor, receiving more than 1000 Purple Hearts, and one
Congressional Medal of Honor awarded to SGT Mitchell Stout (Reference http://www.usc.edu/dept

engagements, Air Defense Artillery played a vital role in the Vietnam War, and were at times
crucial to battle success, proving their versatility, adaptability, flexibility. Air Defense Artillery
(ADA) got its origins in the Coastal Artillery Corps. During World War I (WWI), planners saw a

Analysis Of Unam Sanctam By Pope Boniface Viii
Unam Sanctam This work is authored by Pope Boniface VIII from a rough timespan of 1294
1303. Boniface s affirmation that there is only one holy and catholic and apostolic Church serves
as the main theme of this piece because it is directed toward the king of France. If one is to be
called Christian and truly be one of Christ s flock, one must subject oneself to the Roman pope
because he is the legitimate pope, being one of Peter s successors. Furthermore, there is no
salvation outside of this Church. Pastor Aeternus Pope Leo X writes this piece in order to
reinforce what Pope Boniface VIII says in Unam Sanctam. More specifically, Leo X is attempting
to restate the power that the pope possesses. He agrees with Boniface VIII s belief that it is
necessary to submit oneself to the pope of Rome in order to reach salvation. The... Show more

Penance is already a common practice in working for the remission of sins at this time, but
Sixtus IV encourages Christians to think of their loved ones who have already passed away and
are in the process of being cleansed of their remaining sins so that they may reach heaven. He
also proposes that Christians give a fixed amount of money as indulgences over a span of ten
years in order to help speed up the cleansing process in purgatory that their friends and family are
experiencing. Instructio Summaria Albert of Mainz, who composes this procedure guide or around
the time of Martin Luther, takes indulgences a step further by systemizing it. For example, he
divides indulgences into multiple categories for a variety of the Church congregation so that they
all may give, despite the differences in their means. These categories include the plenary remission
of sins, the confessional, participation in blessings of the universal Church, and the plenary
remission of sins for those who are currently in

1984 Manipulation Of Love Essay
Edmund Burke once said, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and
reasoning as hate. In other words, when one becomes enveloped in the emotion of hate,
similarly to that of love, it can alter one s thought and ability to make decisions. Love and hate
are the two most powerful emotions and are seen at the core of humanity; however, it is ironic
that such strong emotions can be so easily manipulated. George Orwell considers this idea in his
novel 1984 and reveals the relationship between love and hate in a dystopian society. Throughout
the novel, it is clear to see how one is able to gain love and power based on the manipulation of
hate and fear; this can be seen through the analysis of the Party s views of Emmanuel... Show more

For instance, right before Winston is sent to Room 101, O Brian tells him: Never again will you
be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or

ourselves (211). Here, Winston is facing the consequences of his hatred for Big Brother.
Ironically, the Party intends to torture Winston until he feels nothing but love for big brother.
Furthermore, just after Winston hears that Oceania has won the war against Eurasia, he gazes up
at the enormous face of Big Brother and realizes: Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind

for Big Brother, the Party is able purify his brain, leaving nothing but sorrow and repent for what
he had done. The only love he feels is that towards Big Brother. Thus, giving the Party the
satisfaction of power through the dictation of love and

Public Sphere
JГјrgen Habermas The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere discusses his analysis on
publicity. The article is a historical sociological account of the rise, change and breakdown of the
public sphere. Even though publicity originated in the 18th century, it is still prevalent in today s
society. Throughout the article, Habermas discusses the vastness of the public sphere. Habermas
states that the public sphere is a sphere in which private people join together to form a public.
Several important concepts, arguments and themes are discussed throughout the article, the chief
ones being the distinction between private and public, structural transformation and contemporary
politics. One of the main questions that Habermas poses is whether... Show more content on

The relationship between the two elements is vigorous and intricate. In his analysis, Habermas
traces public and private back to Ancient Greece and then onwards to the Middle Ages, where
separation existed, and present day. After the development of the economy and the modern state,
public and private adopted their present form. The term public refers to public authority of the state,
while private refers to the family, society and the economy. Institutions and laws are the elements
that differentiate the two from each other. In modern society, there is a loss of discrepancy between
public and private. Instead, there is one societal multipart that exists, similar to that of the one that
existed in the Middle Ages. Habermas evaluates that the public sphere in its traditional system no
longer exists in today s society.
The main concept of Habermas piece is structural transformation. Structural transformation is the
progression by which the public sphere moves from being the core of the rational critical debate to
a degraded form of its prior self. Habermas concludes that the transformation occurred due to
changes in social, political and economic structures of society. The primary structural change was
the division between public and

Ahaziah Research Paper
There are times when a person becomes ill. They tried many different remedies to assist in their
illness. A die hard worshipper of God would petition the help from the Father first then seek
medical assistance. If the Bible speaks of the many healings that God did before. I would assume
that He is capable of doing it again and again. Every situation that we encounter is a test of our
faith in the powers of God. Sometimes things may come in a sudden manner and shake the core of
our being. But with God as an enter Spirit within us He quickly brings the mine in check with His
words and His miracles.
Therefore, we have here Ahaziah, the wicked king of Israel, under God s rebukes both by his
providence and by his prophet, by his rod and by his word. He is confused by his own doing
based on his ancestors. How can we expect to prosper by doing evil in the sight of the Lord?
During this time, the stories of the past were told continuously about how God protects, heals and
provide for His chosen one. When Ahaziah rebelled against God, and revolted from his allegiance
to God. Ahaziah was punishment severe. When men break their covenants with God, and neglect

A Comparison of the Dramatic Monologues of Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess by Robert
Browning
Robert Browning (1812 89) was, with Alfred Lord Tennyson, one of the two most celebrated of
Victorian poets. His father was a bank clerk, and Browning educated himself by reading in the
family library. He published many verse dramas and dramatic monologues (poems, like My Last
Duchess, in which a single character speaks to the reader), notably the collections Men and
Women (1855) and Dramatis Personae (1864). His greatest success came in 1868 with The Ring

The Duchess appears to be a very happy person, which finds joy in the tiniest things. We gain the
impression that she is a well bread woman, who takes pride in her appearance. The duke is very
proud of her appearance he describes all her beauty as he talks. The duke believes she is easily
pleased too soon made glad and the pleasing her made not always be coming from him, this makes
him very jealous.
The first we hear about Porphyria s appearance is when she has just entered from being in the
rain, the lover is describing every thing as it happened in great detail, about her hair and how it
laid, etc. Porphyira worshiped her lover at that point and he wanted it to stay that way, he loved
her too much for things to change, for her to find someone else to worship, he had to act at that
time in order to keep her to him self.
These poems are very powerful in the way they are putting across the love from the Duke and
Porphyria s Lover, they are both very jealous even though they properly have no reason to be but
they believe they do. Action must be taken to keep their lover s from anyone else, so they believe

A modest Catholic charitable undertaking on the southern edge of Ottawa has offered vacations to
needy families since 1975. Waupoos Family Farm, founded by engaged members of the Cursillo
movement and the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, continues to rely on volunteer labour
and donations to maintain and operate the farm.
Waupoos has been able to provide a fun weekly program to 40 vacationing families in July and
August by hiring four summer students who benefit from the work experience and money toward
their tuition fees as camp counsellors and pool lifeguards, thanks to a grant from the Canada
Summer Jobs Program. Until this year.
In good conscience, Waupoos could not agree to the required attestation that its core mandate

I believe that we, as a community, can band together to raise the necessary funds to carry on their
outreach to the poor of our Ottawa region in the summer of 2018.
The Archdiocese of Ottawa has committed to raising half of the needed $24,000. Through a
challenge grant, supported by benefactors, we commit to raising one half of the necessary funds,
namely $12,000. The other half is up to you. No matter how small (or large), your donation is a
step toward a fulfilling vacation close to nature and friendly farm animals for an inner city child.
Please visit http://waupoos.com/donate/ to make your donation on line or by cheque.
Waupoos Family Farm is one of the hidden gems of this Archdiocese. Situated on a beautiful 200

nominal cost for low income families with children 16 and under, who cannot otherwise afford a
family vacation. Their core delivered service consists of eight weeks in five cottages in the months
of July and August. This is when the help of four summer students is vital to having a stimulating
and safe program for children while parents can enjoy a little

Effects Of Concentration On The Rate Of Reaction
Michaelis Menten and Lineweaver Burke kinetics of polyphenol oxidase . Effect of substrate
concentration concentration on the rate of reaction
Introduction
Enzymes catalyse biological reactions ,increasing the rate of chemical reactions
Enzymes have an affect on the structure of chemical transformation (stryer et al , 2011 )
Enzyme substances bind at the active cite which contains amino acid chains.
Without catalysis reactions the process would take place slowly to produce products , enzymes are
most effective catalyst (Campbell and Farrell, 2011) .A catalysed reaction is obtained by the
production of a complex between e and the reactants (Montgomery et al ., 1990).The reversible
reaction can be seen below: E + S ⇄ ES ⇄ EP ⇄ E + P
Inhibitors
Competitive inhibitors bind to the active site of the enzyme and compete with substrate
concentration. Competitive inhibitors do not change the vmax velocity because high amounts of
substrate can over come competitive inhibitors but rather increase km.
Non competitive inhibitors cause blockage for enzymatic reactions but allow substrate to bind.
Uncompetitive inhibitors don t bind to free energy but rather to enzyme substrate concentration. Un
competitive inhibitors work more effective with high amounts of substrate concentration
(Meisenberg and Simmons , 2011).
Cofactors and Coenzyme
Non protein molecules are required by certain enzymes in order to participate in enzyme catalysed
reactions (Devlin, 2010). Co factors are

Civil Disobedience Examples
Civil disobedience positively impacts a free society. When disobeying peacefully, one disagrees
with the current regulations, but does so in a fashion that is not disruptive. Civil disobedience does
result in tension and further disputes in the community. But these are not for long. Eventually, civil
disobedienceresults in the way the people wanted it to. This is proven by examples from history
and today. The Boston Tea Party, which happened on December 16, 1773, was an act of protest to
the Tea Act, which had been passed by the British Parliament. In this act of civil disobedience,
colonists disguised as Native Americans emptied out entire crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.

In Saudi Arabia, women are not allowed to drive. But on October 26, 2013, several women in
Saudi Arabia peacefully disobeyed this regulation. Women in many different cities got behind
the steering wheel and filmed a video of themselves driving. They then uploaded these videos on
YouTube. The women weren t taken to police stations. Instead, they were kept in their vehicles
until their male guardians arrived, at which point the women were released after signing pledges
not to drive again. At least 35 women drove on Saudi streets that Saturday, filming and uploading
their videos on to YouTube. This action does not have a happy ending like the two previous
circumstances; the government of Saudi Arabia still does not allow women to drive. However,
from the women s actions, the Saudi government got a wake up call. Society is now showing
that it wants women to be driving. In conclusion, after the women displayed this action of civil

The Problem Of Large Cars
Overconsumption of large cars is a problem for Americans who are enticed into thinking they
need the newest and biggest Sports Utility Vehicles, through advertising by the car industries
who make the consumers believe that having these larger cars will make the consumers life
better and have a higher status in their communities. In addition, the auto industries present these
cars as an asset due to the cargo space capabilities, exhibiting the SUV as having more space for
hauling both cargo and passengers. Most consumers with large families buy SUVs to cater to
their families size when most SUVs are similar in size to a large sedan. Even the larger SUVs

Frontline interviewed Martin Goldfarb of GoldFarn Intelligence Marketing, who informed the

profit margins, even when other representatives of the car companies suggests that they put all of
the features in a particular model. Further, show the Ford Motor Company does not disclose what
safety features have been left out of their vehicles. The Ford Motor Company does, however,
explain that, they produce a product [...] sell to this segment of a market at this price point.
Something had to come out (Frontline). This spokesperson for the Ford Motor Company is one of
the industries marketing consultants, and he seems to support the decision in not putting in as
many safety features as are needed to keep the consumer safe in the SUV because it will be less
profitable. What the marketing consultant is conveying is that these car companies are targeting a
certain income level, and if they put in four safety features instead two, then that targeted income
market would not buy that certain SUV because it would be out of the consumer s price range.
This kind of decision making by car companies is not only immoral but based on increasing profits.
Frontline further interviewed Keith Bradsher, former bureau chief

Descriptive Essay About Airport
I m so nervous! I said to my sister as we stepped out of the car grabbing our luggage and making
our way into the airport. When we got in, I took a long glance of everything around since this
was a completely new experience to me. The ceilings were high, the lines were very long, spaces
were cramped, and there were many stores full of souvenirs and anything you could think of. I
wasn t expecting it to be so busy and packed since it was like 5 o clock in the morning. I didn t
know what I had to do so I just shadowed behind as we got into line to get through security and
bag check and then to finally make our way onto the plane. And that whole process surprisingly
took about 2 3 hours.
I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts
with I can t do this or a I can definitely do this just not ready enough.
I first sat down next to my sisters friend but then chose to sit next to my mom. I had to put my
carry on in the overhead bin, but since I could barely reach to that point, someone was nice
enough to help me in putting my luggage into that spot. I sat down and watched my other sister
walk right by us with my nephew since their seat was way in the back. My mom turned and
asked You ready? and I said no because I truly thought that I wasn t. She told me that I would be
just fine and that s when I started to question if I was overreacting or not. The plane was starting

Creative Writing Of Charlotte Russet
Autumn sunshine warmed the day to a gentle twenty degrees and silvery paths of light wove
through the canopy of russet leaves that crowned the Tree of the Dead. Giant boughs of the
hundred year old plane tree rustled in the breeze, dancing to the melodic strains of the Celtic
Farewell. Charlotte gripped Henry s hand with an intensity that not only calmed him, but made
him thankful for a love he only dreamed was possible. Wooden crutches grazed the tender skin

Charlotte s sea blue eyes met his, they crinkled with love, respect and admiration. Yet, they

emerald green and determined, and this time, let silent tears fall unashamedly down his face. They
landed on the crisp blue of his suit and dampened his navy tie to leave stains not only on his

resulting in the Spanish occupation and rebuilding of Tenochtitlan. The reshaping of the city was
an arduous and complex feat to say the least, as Hernan CortГ©s faced many challenges following
the satisfying victory of the conquest. In order to determine these various challenges involved in
post conquest Mexico, one must assess the various feats CortГ©s struggled through as well as

Spaniards faced included: fixing a city of ruins, incorporating the indigenous peoples into society,

Later, Monica Cruz underwent a wardrobe change. The sultry actress traded in her original bikini

The New York Times applauded the director for skillfully capturing the spirit of the era. As for
Ms. Cruz, she luminously revisits the role of a screen diva who, when the country s dictator visits

Essay about Google Analysis
Google, Inc.
Overview
Google is a global technology leader, focused on improving the ways people connect with
information. Through innovations in web search and advertising, Google is now a top Internet
destination and possesses one of the most recognized brands in the world. Available to anyone with
an Internet connection, Google maintains the world s largest online index of web sites and other
content.
Revenue is generated by delivering relevant, cost effective online advertising. Businesses use the
Google AdWords program to promote their products and services with targeted advertising.
Furthermore, Google maintains advertising on thousands of third party web sites using the Google

While these costs have been rising relative to sales, the company believes that its future success
will be a result of its increased knowledge in effectively and efficiently generating traffic. As
illustrated in Exhibit 6, quarterly revenues increased significantly throughout 2004, while traffic
acquisition costs as a percentage of revenues began to decline.
In addition, the financial statements demonstrate that liquidity remains strong. The horizontal
balance sheet illustrates that cash and cash equivalents rose 639% over the three year period
beginning with fiscal year 2002. Furthermore, short term investments increased 1839% over the
same period.
These measures are important for a variety of reasons. As Google attempts to become the front
runner in the web search and online advertising industries, it is beginning to face considerable
litigation regarding its advertising policy. Paris courts recently reached a decision surrounding this
issue and luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton. Secondly, as the marketplace witnesses the current
success and growth of Google, it is inherent that more competitors will emerge. These companies
may draw interest in terms of acquisition from Google, potentially complementing current
operations. Strong liquidity will allow the company to handle the presence of lawsuits and the
ability to fund such acquisitions without the need for additional capital through debt or equity
financing.

The Queen Of Spades Alexander Pushkin Analysis
The human mind proves itself extremely turbulent and intricate in its functionality. Before modern
medicine understood it to the extent that it does in the present day, ideas of insanity and madness
were speculated by the masses. Even today, in an era that has become so progressive in medical
studies and knowledge, the topic still remains ambiguous. In the nineteenth century, there was a
great deal of misunderstanding when it came to insanity, with this curiosity came artistic
expression. As seen in the 1834 work of Alexander Pushkin, The Queen of Spades, the journey to
this supposed madness is explored and traced through literal phrasing as well as contextual
evidence. The tale faults the protagonist s, Hermann s, very human vices of rage... Show more

Such a claim is supplemented with the claim that the gun was not loaded, making his innocence
highly plausible. At face value, he seems to have logically thought out a means by which to acquire
his information; this is contradicted upon further inspection and the idea that he may have already
lost his battle to maintaining his sanity. His plan to enter the cupboard and wait for the countess is
so calculated and drawn out by Pushkin it is hard to believe his decision to draw a firearm on the
old woman be undeserving of an introduction of a similar nature. Its abrupt and sudden appearance
almost mirrors the lack of structure present in his mind. There is no indication that the gun was, in
fact, empty of bullets other than the word of a man that is later committed. As the theme of what
appears to be is not always so is prevalent throughout the tale, there is fair reason to believe that his
rage over took his sensibility, much as his desire had done, and drove him to his actions. Was it not
for the sudden death of The Countess, there is no concrete indication that he would not use the

What Is Henry Knox s Role In The Civil War
Henry Knox was a military officer of the Continental Army. He was born and raised in Boston,
Massachusetts. Henry owned and operated a bookstore there, cultivating an interest in military
history. When the American Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, he befriended General George
Washington. After that he quickly rose to become the chief artillery officer of the Continental Army
.
In this role he accompanied Washington on most of his campaigns. He also had some involvement
in many major actions of the war. Henry set up training centers for artillerymen and manufacturing
facilities for weaponry that were valuable assets.
Henry was admitted to the Boston Latin School. This is where he studied Greek, Latin, arithmetic,
and European history. Since Henry was the oldest son still at home when his father died, he left

The genial giant initially enjoyed reasonable pecuniary success, but his profits slumped after the
Boston Port Bill and subsequent citywide boycott of British goods. In 1772 he cofounded the
Boston Grenadier Corps. This happened as an offshoot of The Train. It later served as its second
in command. Shortly before his 23rd birthday Knox accidentally discharged a shotgun, shooting
two fingers off his left hand. He managed to bind the wound up and reach a doctor, who sewed the
wound up.
Knox supported the Sons of Liberty, an organization of agitators against what they considered
repressive British colonial policies. It is unknown if he participated in the 1773 Boston Tea Party.
We do know that he did serve on guard duty before the incident to make sure no tea was unloaded
from the Dartmouth, one of the ships involved. The next year he refused a consignment of tea sent
to him by James Rivington, a Loyalist in New York. Henry married Lucy Flucker. She was the

The Possibly Detrimental Effects of Cardiac Arrhythmia
Cardiac arrhythmia is defined as, a condition in which the heart s normal rhythm is disrupted
(Scholarpedia). A heart usually beats anywhere from 60 to 100 times a minute. If there is a
palpation or a fluttering rarely, the person should usually be fine. If these occur more often or on a
frequent manner, this cardiac arrhythmia could be very severe (Hopkinsmedicine). The hearts
electrical system is what controls the speed and pace of the heartbeat (NHLBI,NIH). Sinoatrial
node or SA node is located in the right atrium and controls the rhythm of the heart. The SA node is
cardiac muscle cells, and it acts as a pacemaker. Sinus rhythm is the regular heart rhythm
(Scholarpedia). Atrial tachycardia is when the heart beats too fast. On the other hand,
bradycardia is when the heart beats too slowly. The heart can also beat irregularly
(Hopkinsmedicine). The electrical signal goes from the SA node to the left and right atria. This
allows the atria to pump and contract blood to the ventricles. Then, the signal goes to the
atrioventricular or AV node. The electrical signal slows down here, so the ventricles have time to
fill themselves with blood. After the AV node, the electrical signal goes to the bundle of His,
where the signal is eventually transported to the ventricles. In this phase, the signal causes the
ventricles to contract and pump blood to the lungs and the other parts of the body (NHLBI, NIH).
The reason I described this whole process was for the reader to

The Executive Of The Virgin Company
Sir Richard Branson is a global entrepreneur and also the chairman of the Virgin Company. Within
a large company such as Virgin, it is very important to work in a team, and there are a diverse
range of teams that exist within the Virgin group such as the top management team, problem
solving team, continuous improvement team, cross functional team and the work team. A top
management team is defined as the CEO, executives or general manager, vice presidents and other
top department heads whose job is to help the organisation achieve its mission and goals. (Kinicki,
404) This can be seen from the behavior of Branson giving the employees his private number and
paying close attention to every firm as he wants to help those people and companies within the
Virgin groupwho are belligerent. Many of the cabin crews are hired only during the peak season
and then they are disbanded. This is an example of a problem solving team as they only meet as a
temporary team. Moreover, there are interest groups and friendship groups exist within the group.
Branson actually encourages this by giving freedom to the employees as he thinks it is important
for the employees get to know each other well on a more personal level helping to build a friendly
environment within a team making the team successful. This may be referred as the continuous
improvement team. And the other significant teams that exist within the Virgin Group are the work
team and the cross functional team as each team members

Balancing relevance and reliability Accounting information must have both relevance and
reliability but sometime the information is very relevance but not reliability. For example when a
report about cost of building which have proper detail of information but the building was acquire

how to account for particular items (Alford et al. 1993). Produce information quickly and
measuring the information more accurate are the benefits if the accounting information contain of
reliability and relevance. The other consideration is about cost and benefit. It can be define as
cost and benefit that result from making a specific decision which have highly subjective process
on many issue. Benefit of accounting information provided for users should exceed the cost of
providing it (weygandt et al. 2002) It can useful to establish precise definition but it also involve a
range of judgment call and wide open to criticism. To understand further about relevance and
reliability this report will explain about timeliness. The balance between flexibility and timeliness
The other relevance aspect is Timeliness. When information for decision making is not available
when needed or it available so long after reported events mean that the information not has value or

Essay On Quadratic Equation
Quadratic equation is an equation that uses the variable x having the general form. ax2 + bx + c = 0

History of Quadratic equation
This all began when in 1800 BC. Ancient Babylonians left are the earliest evidemce of the

Quadratic equation in real life
One of the things that students always wonder is, when we will actually use all this topics in

only that, we can often see quadratic in buildings too. When we do activities, we can also see

sometimes makes a curved shape), etc
These are some other example of quadratic equation in real life.

The Irony Of Differing Perspectives
The Irony of Differing Perspectives
Till 1827, the idea of sobriety was practically non existent in North America . Taverns were open
at all times of day and were a place of encounter for everyone regardless of class, race and gender.
Moreover, they facilitated political negotiations, economic exchanges and interracial sociability .
So, where did the idea of reducing alcohol consumption come from amid the booming socio
economic stability that taverns seemed to provide?
Except for Peter DeLottinville who recounts the honest events that occurred in Joe Beef s Canteen,
the other authors claim that the temperance movement was used for ulterior motives than it
appeared to be on the surface. For instance, in Glenn J. Lockwood s Temperance in ... Show more

During the period of time that the temperance movement was gaining momentum, the Catholic
church hopped on board to speed up the process and gain as many converts as they could using their
up until then secret weapon: Chiniquy. However, the hidden intention/objective was to regain the
Catholic church s popularity and confidence after Catholics were becoming outnumbered by the
influx of Irish famine immigrants and wanted to become more industrious and progressive (cite).
Unlike all of the previously mentioned authors, DeLottinville does not imply that Joe Beef tried
his best to alleviate problems of housing, job hunting, healthcare and labor unrest with any kind of
hidden agenda. Beef genuinely cared for the welfare of the working class of Montreal and took it
upon himself to represent/assume the voice of the casual laborers . In this case, the Middle Class
was the one benefiting from the temperance movement as they were afraid Beef would succeed
and have laborers demands adhered to. In the same way that Beef s canteen was a place where
every grade in the social scale was represented (CHANGE), many other taverns were also used for
both political and economic interracial exchanges and relationships.
In other words, whereas taverns were used as tools to strengthen a sense of belonging and security,
and often attempted to prove the worthiness of the lower classes, temperance was

Satire of the Knight in the Prologue and Knight s Tale of...
Satire. Satire is a biting literary tool, one that Geoffery Chaucer used liberally when he wrote his
Canterbury Tales. Webster s New World Dictionary says that satire is the use of ridicule, sarcasm,
etc. to attack vices, follies, etc. Using that definition, I think that all of the pilgrims in the
Canterbury Talesare satirized to some extent; some of the satirizations are more subtle than others.
The Knight is one of the pilgrims that is more subtly satirized.
Chaucer satirizes knights and chivalry in two different ways: in the prologue and in the Knight s
Tale. The first way in the prologue is with the pilgrim Knight s character. Chaucer wanted to present
a realistic knight, but he also wanted to give the Knight some very ... Show more content on

Hodges, featured in April 1995 edition of The Chaucer Review, Hodges examines the reasons
behind Chaucer s decisions on the clothing of his Knight. After examining the introduction of the
Knight s character in the General Prologue of the Canterbury Tales, Ms. Hodges said that Chaucer
intended his Knight to be the one true to life portrait of a knight of the 14th century an every
knight of sorts. She also concluded that Chaucer wanted to go against the normal chivalric ideal of
a knight by presenting a knight as he really might have been: a basically good person, but with
imperfections. I disagree with Hodges about Chaucer s intentions when characterizing the knight. I
don t think the knight was meant to be a true to life portrait of the every knight .
I think that the reason Hodges and I disagree has to do with the scope of our examination. Hodges
was mostly examining the Knight s clothing, with only references to the rest of the Knight s
description in the prologue, and only briefly mentions the Knight s Tale. I am looking at the Knight
in a more general sense, and looking at clues in the entire description and the tale.
One of the generalizations Hodges makes is that Chaucer s Knight is not romantically ideal. On this
point, we definitely agree. There haven t been many changes in peoples conceptions of the ideal
knight since the 14th century. The ideal knight is the one

Volunteer Fire Fighter Dies While Lost in Residential Structure Fire
Explain the issues that lead to his fatality During the month of October, 2008 we lost another fire
fighter in a residential structure fire. The Victim was a 24 Y/O male fire fighter from Alabama
who had been a volunteer with the department for two years. The firefighter training seemed to
be standard for a new volunteer in the area which he served. As always it is tragic to lose a fire
fighter and as always we try to learn from it. The NIOSH report is always written with great
detail of their findings, so as we start to learn more about what happened we can get our facts
straight, and hopefully make the changes so it does not happen again. The NIOSH investigators
report did conclude some of the factors could have been avoided. With this case the NIOSH report
was able put together a pretty lengthy list of what could have been different.
NIOSH found the following (2009) Ensure that fire fighters receive essential training consistent
with national consensus standards on structural firefighting before being allowed to operate at a fire
incident, develop, implement, and enforce written standard operating procedures (SOPs) for
fireground operations, ensure that fire fighters are trained to follow the two in/two out rule and
maintain crew integrity at all times, ensure that adequate numbers of apparatus and fire fighters are
on scene before initiating an offensive fire attack in a

Essay On Labeling Theory
Labeling theory is very much self explanatory. This theory states that people become criminals
because someone labeled them as one and this becomes part of their self identity. Having a label
such as a trouble maker could stick with you. Not only does this affect you at school, but at work,
and to anyone else who knows you have them label. This also very much goes along with
stereotypes. If you dress like a stereotypical gang member people are going to associate you with
that and that will become a part of your identity.
A person usually gets a label due to the social distance between the labeler and the labeled. There
are two main affect of labeling: creation of a stigma and the effect on self image. The creation of a

Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this
goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub sections. In the first
section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history:
population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming s
influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks
in connection with the important events described in the first section. I end my paper with a third
section that offers research questions that could be answered in

It was suggested that the President had tried to repair the damages that were caused the Watergate

things that still needed to be done regarding the scandal. The article stated that the officials under
the Watergate scandalwere cheating, lying and engaging in illegal activities while in high positions
of the government.
The people believed that the president did not stand up to the crisis and that he had only done the

The Chicago Tribune s editorial called for the impeachment of the President, and the author still
believed that the President had tried his best in handling of the matter (Genovese, et. all, 2012).
The scandal forced changes to the politicians that hold office by making renovations in the
statehouse in the way that elections are ran and politicians run their office. The crisis ended with
President Nixon being impeached and a scandal that will forever be remember in American history.
Reforms were done due to the pressure of the scandal. Because of the scandal, the people demand
more honesty from their constintuants. The people also require limits on the amount of money
politicians can spend.
The events change the general view on how the press covered politicians. From that point, the
press was able to include the internal personal life of politician reviling what they had otherwise
hidden from the public. It was as a result of pressure from the Chicago Tribune s editorial coverage
that showed the failures and neglects from the President in his handling of the Watergate crisis that
ultimately led to his resignation.
In a time of social media and smartphones, coverage of the Watergate scandal could have been
different because any of the information that was hidden during those that time would be easily
available to the American citizens (Olson, 2003). All facets of social media would have covered
the crisis

  • 2. Analysis Of Nell Guthrie Sat On The Town Dock With Her... Later that evening, Nell Guthrie sat on the town dock with her beau, Asa Davis. A rain cloud had passed over and drenched Beaufort while Nell was eating supper with her mother and father, but now the western sky was streaked with a sunset of orange, fuchsia and hints of chartreuse. The cloudburst washed the movement out of the air, leaving behind a humid tranquility. Leaning toward her, Asa nuzzled his paramour s ear, making her tremble. Where you been hidin out, lover? Has your daddy been working you hard? She returned the kiss, teasing him with her lips. Daddy let me have the afternoon off so I could clam for supper tonight. I thought I saw you leave the store. Then I stopped by your house to deliver some laudanum for your mother. Thrilled that he was thinking of her throughout the day, she answered, You know you have boys who make deliveries for you. I wanted to see my girl. As she burrowed her face into his chest, she inhaled his familiar scent of perspiration and spicy bay rum. Shifting around, she nestled her back into Asa s solid chest and shoulder. When he wrapped his arms around her, and she could feel the rhythmic beating from his heart. Moored work boats filled the glassy, calm harbor, many of them on their way to the Northeast after a winter in the South and the Caribbean. Since land and sea were in a constant tussle for wind in Nell s coastal town, it was unsettling to her when it died. When Asa began to caress her arm, a haunting penny ... • 10. The Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids Omega 3 Fatty Acids Fatty Acids have a linked chain of carbon atoms. These atoms can be unsaturated or saturated. Saturated means that there is only a single bond in carbon atoms, which leaves hydrogen to have the rest of them. Unsaturated means that there has to be at least once carbon atom that needs to have a double bond. In the case of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Essential Fatty acids are polyunsaturated. Polyunsaturated fat is fat that has a lot of double bonds in between carbon atoms. They have to contain at least two double bonds. A double bond is when there are two atoms that share two electrons. In all omega 3 fatty acids, the first double bond is located between the third and fourth carbon atom counting from the methyl end of the fatty acid(n 3) (Higdon). There is a double bond that is the first on the carbon chain in between the third and forth chain. These double bonds are on a carbon chains which are in all omega 3 fatty acids. Another example of another fatty acid is omega 9. Omega 9 has its first double bond in between the ninth and tenth carbon atom. Omega 3 fatty acids are very good for a person to have. • 13. Air Defense Artillery On The Vietnam War Essay Air Defense Artillery s Role in the Vietnam War SSG Arsenault, SSG Everett, SSG Powell, SGT Kencsan ADA ALC (INTRODUCTION) In August 1964, Vietnamese DRV torpedo boats attacked two U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. President London B. Johnson ordered the retaliatory bombing of military targets in North Vietnam. Shortly after the incident, U.S. congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, giving President Johnson war making powers, and U.S. planes began regular bombing raids (Reference http://www.history.com/topics/vietnam war/vietnam war history ). In Vietnam, the US enjoyed virtual air supremacy. Nevertheless, Air Defense Artillery(ADA) units were able to distinguish themselves and prove their versatility by providing fire support to ground forces. ADA earned more than 450 medals for valor, receiving more than 1000 Purple Hearts, and one Congressional Medal of Honor awarded to SGT Mitchell Stout (Reference http://www.usc.edu/dept 00/dept/armyrotc/branches/air_defense.html ). Despite there being no confirmed aerial engagements, Air Defense Artillery played a vital role in the Vietnam War, and were at times crucial to battle success, proving their versatility, adaptability, flexibility. Air Defense Artillery (ADA) got its origins in the Coastal Artillery Corps. During World War I (WWI), planners saw a need for antiaircraft artillery to protect ground forces from the newly emerging aerial threat (Reference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Analysis Of Unam Sanctam By Pope Boniface Viii Unam Sanctam This work is authored by Pope Boniface VIII from a rough timespan of 1294 1303. Boniface s affirmation that there is only one holy and catholic and apostolic Church serves as the main theme of this piece because it is directed toward the king of France. If one is to be called Christian and truly be one of Christ s flock, one must subject oneself to the Roman pope because he is the legitimate pope, being one of Peter s successors. Furthermore, there is no salvation outside of this Church. Pastor Aeternus Pope Leo X writes this piece in order to reinforce what Pope Boniface VIII says in Unam Sanctam. More specifically, Leo X is attempting to restate the power that the pope possesses. Penance is already a common practice in working for the remission of sins at this time, but Sixtus IV encourages Christians to think of their loved ones who have already passed away and are in the process of being cleansed of their remaining sins so that they may reach heaven. He also proposes that Christians give a fixed amount of money as indulgences over a span of ten years in order to help speed up the cleansing process in purgatory that their friends and family are experiencing. Instructio Summaria Albert of Mainz, who composes this procedure guide or around the time of Martin Luther, takes indulgences a step further by systemizing it. For example, he divides indulgences into multiple categories for a variety of the Church congregation so that they all may give, despite the differences in their means. • 16. 1984 Manipulation Of Love Essay Edmund Burke once said, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as hate. In other words, when one becomes enveloped in the emotion of hate, similarly to that of love, it can alter one s thought and ability to make decisions. Love and hate are the two most powerful emotions and are seen at the core of humanity; however, it is ironic that such strong emotions can be so easily manipulated. George Orwell considers this idea in his novel 1984 and reveals the relationship between love and hate in a dystopian society. Throughout the novel, it is clear to see how one is able to gain love and power based on the manipulation of hate and fear; this can be seen through the analysis of the Party s views of Emmanuel... The article is a historical sociological account of the rise, change and breakdown of the public sphere. Even though publicity originated in the 18th century, it is still prevalent in today s society. Throughout the article, Habermas discusses the vastness of the public sphere. Habermas states that the public sphere is a sphere in which private people join together to form a public. Several important concepts, arguments and themes are discussed throughout the article, the chief ones being the distinction between private and public, structural transformation and contemporary politics. One of the main questions that Habermas poses is whether... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The relationship between the two elements is vigorous and intricate. In his analysis, Habermas traces public and private back to Ancient Greece and then onwards to the Middle Ages, where separation existed, and present day. After the development of the economy and the modern state, public and private adopted their present form. The term public refers to public authority of the state, while private refers to the family, society and the economy. Institutions and laws are the elements that differentiate the two from each other. In modern society, there is a loss of discrepancy between public and private. Instead, there is one societal multipart that exists, similar to that of the one that existed in the Middle Ages. Habermas evaluates that the public sphere in its traditional system no longer exists in today s society. The main concept of Habermas piece is structural transformation. Structural transformation is the progression by which the public sphere moves from being the core of the rational critical debate to a degraded form of its prior self. Habermas concludes that the transformation occurred due to changes in social, political and economic structures of society. The primary structural change was the division between public and ... A die hard worshipper of God would petition the help from the Father first then seek medical assistance. If the Bible speaks of the many healings that God did before. I would assume that He is capable of doing it again and again. Every situation that we encounter is a test of our faith in the powers of God. Sometimes things may come in a sudden manner and shake the core of our being. But with God as an enter Spirit within us He quickly brings the mine in check with His words and His miracles. Effect of substrate concentration concentration on the rate of reaction Introduction Enzymes catalyse biological reactions ,increasing the rate of chemical reactions Enzymes have an affect on the structure of chemical transformation (stryer et al , 2011 ) Enzyme substances bind at the active cite which contains amino acid chains. Without catalysis reactions the process would take place slowly to produce products , enzymes are most effective catalyst (Campbell and Farrell, 2011) .A catalysed reaction is obtained by the production of a complex between e and the reactants (Montgomery et al ., 1990).The reversible reaction can be seen below: E + S ⇄ ES ⇄ EP ⇄ E + P Inhibitors Competitive inhibitors bind to the active site of the enzyme and compete with substrate concentration. Competitive inhibitors do not change the vmax velocity because high amounts of substrate can over come competitive inhibitors but rather increase km. Non competitive inhibitors cause blockage for enzymatic reactions but allow substrate to bind. Uncompetitive inhibitors don t bind to free energy but rather to enzyme substrate concentration. Un competitive inhibitors work more effective with high amounts of substrate concentration (Meisenberg and Simmons , 2011). I wasn t expecting it to be so busy and packed since it was like 5 o clock in the morning. I didn t know what I had to do so I just shadowed behind as we got into line to get through security and bag check and then to finally make our way onto the plane. And that whole process surprisingly took about 2 3 hours. I slowly walked onto the plane still with a ton of nervousness and anxiety, filling up my thoughts with I can t do this or a I can definitely do this just not ready enough. I first sat down next to my sisters friend but then chose to sit next to my mom. I had to put my carry on in the overhead bin, but since I could barely reach to that point, someone was nice enough to help me in putting my luggage into that spot. I sat down and watched my other sister walk right by us with my nephew since their seat was way in the back. My mom turned and asked You ready? and I said no because I truly thought that I wasn t. She told me that I would be just fine and that s when I started to question if I was overreacting or not. The plane was starting to get ready to take off so my whole body ... Creative Writing Of Charlotte Russet Autumn sunshine warmed the day to a gentle twenty degrees and silvery paths of light wove through the canopy of russet leaves that crowned the Tree of the Dead. Giant boughs of the hundred year old plane tree rustled in the breeze, dancing to the melodic strains of the Celtic Farewell. Charlotte gripped Henry s hand with an intensity that not only calmed him, but made him thankful for a love he only dreamed was possible. Wooden crutches grazed the tender skin under his arms, but he refused to sit. Pride prickled his spirit and straightened his spine and as Charlotte s sea blue eyes met his, they crinkled with love, respect and admiration. Yet, they remained tinged with a hue of sadness that masked their shared grief. Again, as he stood before the Tree of the Dead, six brief weeks after the loss of Sam Lannigan, Henry opened his eyes, emerald green and determined, and this time, let silent tears fall unashamedly down his face. They landed on the crisp blue of his suit and dampened his navy tie to leave stains not only on his clothing, but etched within his soul. • 44. The Possibly Detrimental Effects of Cardiac Arrhythmia Cardiac arrhythmia is defined as, a condition in which the heart s normal rhythm is disrupted (Scholarpedia). A heart usually beats anywhere from 60 to 100 times a minute. If there is a palpation or a fluttering rarely, the person should usually be fine. If these occur more often or on a frequent manner, this cardiac arrhythmia could be very severe (Hopkinsmedicine). The hearts electrical system is what controls the speed and pace of the heartbeat (NHLBI,NIH). Sinoatrial node or SA node is located in the right atrium and controls the rhythm of the heart. The SA node is cardiac muscle cells, and it acts as a pacemaker. Sinus rhythm is the regular heart rhythm (Scholarpedia). Atrial tachycardia is when the heart beats too fast. On the other hand, bradycardia is when the heart beats too slowly. The heart can also beat irregularly (Hopkinsmedicine). The electrical signal goes from the SA node to the left and right atria. This allows the atria to pump and contract blood to the ventricles. Then, the signal goes to the atrioventricular or AV node. The electrical signal slows down here, so the ventricles have time to fill themselves with blood. After the AV node, the electrical signal goes to the bundle of His, where the signal is eventually transported to the ventricles. In this phase, the signal causes the ventricles to contract and pump blood to the lungs and the other parts of the body (NHLBI, NIH). The Knight is one of the pilgrims that is more subtly satirized. Chaucer satirizes knights and chivalry in two different ways: in the prologue and in the Knight s Tale. After examining the introduction of the Knight s character in the General Prologue of the Canterbury Tales, Ms. Hodges said that Chaucer intended his Knight to be the one true to life portrait of a knight of the 14th century an every knight of sorts. She also concluded that Chaucer wanted to go against the normal chivalric ideal of a knight by presenting a knight as he really might have been: a basically good person, but with imperfections. I disagree with Hodges about Chaucer s intentions when characterizing the knight. I don t think the knight was meant to be a true to life portrait of the every knight .
