Pros And Cons Of Marijuana Law
Marijuana use in the United States has been increasing throughout the United States, along with
the number of marijuana related arrests. In 2011, law enforcement agencies made 574,641
arrests for small quantities of the drug intended for personal use, the marijuana arrests were
about 13.6 percent more than the 505,681 arrests made for all violent crimes, including murder,
rape and serious assaults (Williams, 2016). Illegal and legal marijuana use is associated with
high rates of property and violent crime rates, but in recent studies evidence was found to
support the opposite. Shepard Blackley (2016) found that legalized medical marijuana does not
have a negative effect on violent and property crime. Morris et al. (2014) found that medical
marijuana laws are not predictive of higher violent and property crimes, but may be related to
reductions in violent and property crimes. Maier et al. (2017) found that states with decriminalized
and legalized marijuana laws compared to states without did not differ in rates of property, violent,
or drug abuse crimes. To better understand this social issue, one must look at it from the view of
each of the sociological theories; Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism.
These theories help sociologist explain and understand the different aspects of social interactions
and issues. Functionalism is a macro level theory, which focuses on large scale social interactions,
and views society as a structure with interrelated parts that are designed to meet the biological and
social needs of individuals in a society (OpenStax, 2015). Herbert Spencer was the first to recognize
a relationship between the parts of the society and the whole society. He explains the theory by
comparing the society to a human body and the organs to social institutions; social institutions help
society run smoothly and efficiently (OpenStax, 2015). Functionalists believe that social issues
weaken a society s stability, but that they also serve important functions for the society.
Functionalist view the issue of marijuana related arrests as individuals who partook in deviant
behaviors, or behaviors that go against cultural norms, and received negative sanctions for their
actions.

The Use Of Mnemonics
Khan (2008) declared that mnemonics are derived from Mnemosyne, ancient Greek goddess. A
memory aid or pertaining to aiding the memory. Often considered to be a code, device, acronym or
formula to facilitate memory or understanding (p.7). Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help
learners in recalling particular data by using a strategy or technique that enable learners to develop
memory(Richmond, Cummings Klapp, 2008). During the ancient time of Rome and Greece,
mnemonicdevices have been applied in order to make the acquisition of target words easier by
providing clear pictures for thoughts and ideas (Baleghizadeh Ashoori, 2010). Mnemonics are
useful techniques that help learners remember vocabulary more effectively and this strategy
involves connecting unfamiliar information to the information that is already existed in the long
term memory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to O Brien (2011), mnemonics have a firm place in our repertoire of memory techniques
(154). In addition, Mnemonic devices are good memory enhancing strategies or techniques that
assist learners in order to link new information to the previous information stored in their cognitive
system and also these techniques, verbal or visual, that develop the storage and recall of data
included in memory (Ashoori Tootkaboni, 2012).
According to Shmidman and Ehri (2010), Mnemonics are effective when they speed up learning,
reduce confusion among similar items, and enhance long term retention and application of
information (p.160). According to Cohen and Aphek (1980) association is a mnemonic link to

Symbolism In Anthem By Ayn Rand
If you take myth and folklore, and these things that speak in symbols, they can be interpreted in so
many ways that although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a
sort of enormous rainbow of every possible colour you could imagine (Diana Wynne Jones).
Symbols are objects, characters, figures, or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. In
Anthem by Ayn Rand, symbols are used throughout the novel, allowing to reveal more hidden
information about Equality as a person as well as how it portrays to theme.
Throughout the novel, multiple different symbols are being portrayed, although the symbol of light
depicts the full meaning of the characters and theme of Anthem. Ayn Rand uses light to symbolize
knowledge, hope, freedom, and life. The light symbolizes hope since, it shows how Equality
separates himself from collectivism and thinks for himself when he proclaims We made it. We
created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours
alone and only (59). By contrast to the light of the box, the City is dark and only lit by
candlelight. Therefore the light shows the hope that Equality and all others have of breaking away
from the collective society and becoming individuals and to have freedom to be themselves. The
discovery of light starts Equality s journey of changing the society and granted him the chance to
create a new world where light and other things from the Unmentionable Times exist.
The symbolization of the light in Anthem helps characterize Equality as an individual in the novel
in various different ways. The light allowed and led Equality to his freedom of being himself rather
than characterized as a group with his brothers. Equality discovering and inventing the lightbulb
was his first realization of individuality. In the dark haze of this society, all things are indistinct.
Until when light is brought to display can those with abnormal qualities be distinguished from the
crowd. Consequently, Equality s lightbulb makes him a sign of massive social disturbance but, at
the same time that it helps him see himself as the unique individual that he truly is. Tomorrow, in
the full light of day, we shall take

Comparison of Whitman and Dickenson Poems
America experienced profound changes during the mid 1800 s. New technologies and ideas helped
the nation grow, while the Civil War ripped the nation apart. During this tumultuous period, two
great American writers captured their ideas in poetry. Their poems give us insight into the time
period, as well as universal insight about life. Although polar opposites in personality, Emily
Dickinson and Walt Whitman created similar poetry. Dickinson s Hope is a Thing with Feathers and
Whitman s O Captain! My Captain! share many qualities.

Captain! My Captain! Each poem contains an extended metaphor. In Dickinson s poem, a bird
clearly symbolizes hope. The first stanza introduces the bird metaphor: В‘Hope is the thing with
feathers /That perches in the soul. The next lines В‘And sings the tune without the words /And
never stopsВ—at allВ— illustrate the interminable nature of the bird and hope. The second stanza
expands the metaphor by saying В‘And sweetestВ—in the GaleВ—is heardВ—. The bird s song, or
hope, is the sweetest during a Gale, or troubled times. The first lines in the final stanza В‘I ve
heard it in the chillest land / And on the strangest Sea describe the bird, or hope, as being
everywhere. The last lines В‘Yet, never, in Extremity,/It asked a crumbВ
—of Me show the
unselfish nature of the bird; hope never asks for anything in return. O Captain! My Captain!
contains a more complicated and cryptic extended metaphor. Basically, Abraham Lincoln captains
the metaphorical ship of the United States through the Civil War. The second line В‘The ship has
weather d every rack, the prize we sought is won means the United States survived the tribulation of
the Civil War, and the citizens won the prize they sought, unity. Abraham Lincoln

During each of the experiments, our hypotheses were either supported by the results or the data we
gathered was inconclusive. For experiment 1, the focus was to determine the effect of stimulus
intensity. These results are displayed in Figure 1 and Table 1. The voltage that caused the maximal
contraction (supramaximal stimulus) of our musclewas 0.4V. The focus of Experiment 2 was
measuring twitch duration. In Figure 2 and Table 2, the duration of each of the three twitches is
displayed. As shown in Table 2, the average twitch duration was 0.2292 seconds. In importance of

Gummy Bear Lab Report
Background: In my experiment, I am trying to see how different solutions varying in pH levels
will affect the shape and weight of gummy bears. The main ingredient in most gummy bears is
gelatin. Gelatin is a collagen. It is derived from animals such as pig skin, cow skin or bones. In
the United States, gummy bears are made of gelatin. In other parts of the world where eating pork
is not accepted, gummy bears are made with a substitute of gelatin. Some ingredients used to make
gummy bears include sugar, citric acid, gelatin, starch and food coloring. In this experiment, I hope
to see how osmosis and diffusion will play a role in the interaction between the gummy bears and
the different solutions. Osmosis occurs when water moves from low solute concentrationto high
solute concentration. On the other hand, diffusion occurs when particles in the water move from
high concentration to low concentration. I also to seek to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that more acid solutions will most likely affect the form and shape of a gummy bear. The
gelatin in the gummy bear result in weaker bonds due to the acidity of the apple cider vinegar
solution. The Smart water and tap water gummy bear were over expanded probably due to
osmosis. The water moved from outside the gummy bear into the gummy bear because there is a
high solute concentration in the gummy bears. The gummy bear in the honey solution probably
did not expand much due to the solute concentration of the water and gummy bear. It did lose its
shape due to the acidity of the solution. When put in alkaline conditions, such as salt water, the
gummy bear will most likely not lose its shape. All in all, the different pH levels of solutions can
affect the form and shape of a gummy bear. The more acidic a solution is, a gummy bear will most
likely lose its form and shape. The gummy bears most likely will expand due to osmosis that occurs
within the solution and gummy

Police Discrimination And Discrimination
Most middle class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are
routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal (Benjamin Spock) . In the United States and
around the world different people face discrimination, inequality, and racism because of the color
of their skin instead of content of their character. However, the shocking thing is that the violence
can be seen in the protectors of Peace and Liberty, the Police. They as humans also hold a sense of
bias and racismand act accordingly to their own personal desire instead of by the law. African
Americans have cower and be weary around the police because the police are rude and belligerent.
When someone of a certain raceare faced with inequality and discrimination there will be protest
and when protest do not work it becomes riots. The thing that sparked the Watts Riots was when
a police officer attacks a black male and his mother for drinking and driving. In a New York
Times article it states, When another officer began hitting Mr. Frye and his mother, who had
rushed to the scene, onlookers started throwing stones and bottles . This shows that there was fault
in Mr. Frye for drinking and drinking but he should have been fine or arrested instead of being
abused and assaulted. The conflicts with the police has been going on for many years and this event
sparked the protests into a full out riot. The U.S History in Context states that,

Abstract
For patients that have indwelling catheters, with the evidence based practice and standards of
care, UTI s does still continue to be an ongoing problem today. In one of the large hospitals in my
area had recently developed a poster and video approach with special focus on alternatives to
urinary catheterization, removing catheters early, and the reinforcement of sterile technique prior
insertion and foley catheter care were used to educate nursing staff and improve outcomes. The
purpose of this paper is to educate nursing on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lower income communities are probably more affected. The cost of a single episode to treat
UTI s ranges from $980 $2900, depending on the presence of the bacteremia (Saint, 2000).
Differences in care based on evidence Sterile technique is required for insertion of an indwelling
urinary catheter in the hospital setting, but clean technique can be used for intermittent
catheterization in non acute settings. By itself, sterile technique on insertion doesn t prevent UTI
s. Prevention of UTI s depends on knowledge of causes, proper care techniques, and early catheter
removal. Nurses are taught early on in school that sterile technique helps to reduce infections. It
was drilled in our heads the entire time and now to have the evidence tell us that early catheter
removal, along with proper technique good hand hygiene is the key to reduce UTI s.
Summary
UTI s is an all too common problem that causes unnecessary distress to patients and delays their
recovery during their hospital stay. All healthcare professionals should adhere to these good
practice points that could reduce the risk of UTI s and assure staff that they are demonstrating best
practice in their care.

Research Paper On Rugby
Rugby Should be a School Sport Imagine it is a Friday night underneath the lights, in October, and
you are walking into a stadium packed with fans cheering. But the only noise you can hear is the
sound of your cleats hitting the pavement as you are marching up to the field, and the only thing
you see is the other team and the end zone. It is such a stimulating feeling, it is unforgettable. Now,
you may think I am talking about an American footballgame, but I am not. I am talking about a
rugby match. Believe it or not, football derived from rugby. Differences are in rugby, there are no
pads, the ball does not have laces, fifteen men to a side, and above all else, it is an international
sport and it is safe compared to football. How come... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Barack Obama is worried about the future of the sport, he told interviewer Homa
Khaleeli with The Guardian. He said if he d had sons he would have thought long and hard
before allowing them to take up the national sport, insisting the game should become less
violent, and adding that he was particularly anxious about college players. (Khaleeli). One study
that The Guardian used to expose the trauma that football players receive is that out of 35
football players that was examined, 34 showed signs of brain trauma. In rugby, players are
taught to use their arms to wrap a player s legs and let the momentum of that player cause him to
go to ground. Furthermore, in rugby there is no blocking, and so players who don t have the ball
don t get hit when they re not expecting it. (Micheli). Lyle Micheli is a doctor of fifty years and
played rugby himself, he stated the tackling technique that is used in rugby because he wanted to
expose that the technique is very different and much safer than how football players tackle. To be
sure, rugby players get lots of bloody noses, chipped teeth, broken fingers but they like to show off
these injuries, so one might come under the impression that rugby is a very rough sport.
(Mckenna). Jim Mckenna is a doctor and rugby coach. He brought up a valid point, sure rugby

Romantic period analysis
The beauty of nature and its ability to set you free, the powers of imagination, individuality and a
rebellion to tyranny are some of the ideas the romantic period brought to society s attention. While
rejecting neoclassical views of order, reason, tradition, society and formal diction. Romanticism
allowed people to get away from the constrained rational views of life and concentrate on an
emotional and sentimental side of humanity. The definition of poetry by William Wordsworth

important poet of the romantic period) exemplifies the importance of emotion and the individual,

Romantic escapism is an extremely important element of John Keats poetry, serving as a
foundation for many of his poems. In the ode to a Nightingale he is pouring out his thoughts and
is longing for escape from the world full of strife, sadness and grief.
The recurrence of this theme in his poems is actually not only a part of romanticism, but also
greatly a result of his personal unfortunate experiences in life. This painful experience in life is
what makes him somewhat pessimistic and compels him to resort to the option of escapism
through his poetry ( KEATS PROJECTION OF ROMANTIC ESCAPISM ).
The poem Ode to a nightingale begins with the narrator saying he feels a drowsy numbness but
the feeling is not from jealousy of the nightingale s happiness because the narrator rejoices in the
song. While listening to and appreciating the sweetly sung song of the nightingale, Keats too,
wishes to become like her so that he can fly away from the cruel world that has given him
nothing else but pain. That I might drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away
into the forest dim. (Keats 1006) Through the use of the nightingale, a very real living creature in
nature, Keats has provided us with both a real bird and a symbol of the immortality that is nature.
Nature, in its never ending cycle of life and death, achieves its own kind of immortality. This is
something that men will never achieve. The bird is

An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts
According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for
letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his
partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then
maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his
mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last
time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he
moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a
melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my
words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t
seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates
the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. When he tried to tell them about
his problems he found it strange that he could never explain to them. In the end that person left
him. When he tried to get them back, he couldn t move and watched as they left... Show more

I immediately related to the singer and felt the empty and lonely emotions he portrayed in his
lyrics. The many ifs he uses in the song is something I ask myself all the time. What would have
happened if I had done somethings I had declined? What if I m not good enough or not strong
enough. What if I had left a long time ago. The many ifs that I ask myself are all regrets and
words of self loathing. Astronauts has helped me empty my thoughts as the song had sang for
me. The lyrics were words I had kept hidden for years. I had no outlet to empty out these feelings
and this song had done it for me. The song had touched my heart and I will hold it dear to me

Why I Want To Be A Drum Major Essay
I, Aislinn Ramos, am applying to be Drum Major for the fall 2016 Maiden Blue Devil marching
season. I want to become Drum Major because I believe I have the ability, willingness, and
support needed to obtain the position and execute my job successfully. Being Drum Major is a
challenge I am willing to take up. In this essay I will go through what a Drum Major is, why I
think I am qualified for the position, and finally what I want to do as Drum Major. A Drum Major

as if they have done enough that s when the marching season ends. Other aspects I want to work
on are fundamentals, show music, and pep tunes. Fundamentals need to be ingrained into
everybody s head and show music should be memorized by the beginning of the new school
year. Pep tunes should also be emphasized on; these are the only connection we have with the
rest of the student body and they are what opinions of the band are based on. Many students who
attend football games or pay attention at pep rallies come to me ask if the band is playing or not.

school. I know that with hard work and determination, this year will be the best there has been

Professional Athletes who Cheat in Sports Essay
Professional athletes are role models to the American children across the Nation. Professional
athletes must follow ethical standards to play fairly in their sport. This means that players must
compete without the assistance of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids (Tynes, 2006).
Yet, professional athletes choose to cheat by taking illegal substances, which results in the death
of some players and a wide variety of health problems. The Federal Government realized that the
use of anabolic steroids is a form of cheating and defrauds the players and fans of real competition.

Joseph Heller s Catch 22
Joseph Heller s Catch 22 embodies the idea of the corrupt selfishness of the military system that
dehumanizes the men of it s ranks. Often, the bureaucratically inclined superior officers focus only
on personal advancement. In doing so, they eliminate any shred of humanity of the men who serve
under them. Ultimately, each commanding officerdemonstrates a complete lack of moral judgment
that considers only their own personal agenda at the cost of the common soldier. Heller s
treatment of a corrupt bureaucratic system first emerges in his portrait of Major Major. Among
the most pathetic characters in the book, Major Major holds a position of immense authority.
Unfortunately, he was promoted to squadron commander. Colonel Cathcart directly pointed out,
But don t think it means anything, because it doesn t. All it means is you re the new squadron
commander. (88) The men of the squadron, almost on cue, begin to avoid Major Major. He is
no longer seen as the same person prior to his promotion, but only as the rank. As the men begin
to avoid Major Major, he begins to avoid responsibility. In fact, he implements a system to help
avoid contact with others. He says I don t want anyone to come see me while I m here. (Heller 98)
Major Major s accidental advancement in the military rankswas due to an, I.B.M. machine with a
sense of humor almost as keen as his father s, (86), promoting Major Major to major. Due to the

China Economy
CHINA
AN ECONOMIC OVERVIEW
The rapid rise of China as a major economic power within a time span of about three decades is
often described by analysts as one of the greatest economic success stories in modern times. From
1979 (when economic reforms began) to 2011, China s real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at
an average annual rate of nearly 10%. From 1980 to 2011, real GDP grew 19 fold in real terms,
real per capita GDP increased 14 fold, and an estimated 500 million people were raised out of
extreme poverty. China is now the world s second largest economy and some analysts predict it
could become the largest within a few years. Yet, on a per capita basis, China remains a relatively
poor country. China s economic rise has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To support rapid industrialization, the central government undertook large scale investments in
physical and human capital during the 1960s and 1970s. As a result, by 1978 nearly three fourths
of industrial production was produced by centrally controlled, state owned enterprises (SOEs),
according to centrally planned output targets. Private enterprises and foreign invested firms were
generally barred. A central goal of the Chinese government was to make China s economy relatively
self sufficient. Foreign trade was generally limited to obtaining only those goods that could not be
made or obtained in China. Government policies kept the Chinese economy relatively stagnant and
inefficient, mainly because most aspects of the economy were managed and run by the central
government (and thus there were few profit incentives for firms, workers, and farmers), competition
was virtually nonexistent, foreign trade and investment flows were mainly limited to Soviet bloc
countries, and price and production controls caused widespread distortions in the economy. Chinese
living standards were substantially lower than those of many other developing countries. The
Chinese government in 1978 (shortly after the death of Chairman Mao in 1976) decided to break
with its Soviet style economic policies by gradually reforming the economy according to free
market principles and opening up trade and investment with the West, in the hope that this would

Descriptive Essay About A Shack
Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle
of the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to
the family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer
were, but although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use.
Now days, we use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow
River and the many logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non
hunting event, every year: the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is
instrumental in bringing the family together. When I was a little boy, only about five years old,
I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had only heard of the shack and what it looked
like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by trees. Now that I am finally able to
go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the shack was nothing standard; we had
to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a county road and drive to the north for
a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank near the rice paddies and follow
that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is not much to see; just some trees
on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked by the ditch bank, and to the
right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down grass, about 18 feet wide,
through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the scent of grasses and

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with
Muslim immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants
face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being
implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx
of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet
others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come
to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies
will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims?
While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are
migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh
(Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of
unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue
that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the
populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national
identity which some

Comparing Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, And Tantra Yoga
The story, myth, and background of Kali can be interpreted in many different ways. There are
three strands of yoga that have developed over the past centuries. The tree strands are Classical
Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, and Tantra Yoga. Classical Yoga is a dualistic model in which purusha
and prakriti are completely separate. Everything has an equal and opposite counter part in this
strand of yoga. Advaita Vedanta Yoga was a response to dualistic, Classical Yoga. This strand of
yoga is monistic and is a view that affirms the unity of all things. Everything is one. The divine
consciousness is everywhere and in everything we see. TantraYoga is non dualistic while also
realizing and accepting that there is diversity in the world. Each of these strands of yoga looks at
Kali s story differently and its significance is different in each view.
In Classical Yoga, the view is that one must overcome prakriti. In doing so, the individual is able
to free the mind from their body to experience purusha. Kali is the creator of prakriti. She is the
force that drives the world and it s lila. It is often thought that when a bad storm or tornado hits,
it is her doing. A yogi of this view would meditate to Kali as the goddess of destruction, not the
mother. They would face that she is the unity of all things, being the creator and destroyer of
everything we embrace in this material world as seen with her dance in the myth. This yogi would
learn to face the reality of life and death. If one simply

Swot Analysis Of Bean s New Multi Purpose Camping Unit Essay
With the introduction of a new product comes the potential for risk. Great care and thoroughness
should be taken to identify as many potential risks as imaginable since although it is not always
possible to control risk factors it is entirely possible to mitigate potential ill effects if a solid
strategy is in place. Some riskfactors identified may never actually be realized, but it is well
worth having a contingency plan in place rather than running the risk of causing detriment to the
financial well being of the business. Several possible risks have been identified in association
with the launch of L.L. Bean s new multi purpose camping unit, the first being the risk of losing
business to competitors with similar products. The mitigation plan to address this risk comes from
the very core of L.L. Bean s business. L.L. Bean will differentiate itself from its competitors by
offering a unique product of superior quality, shipped for free, and backed by their unsurpassed
customerservice and 100% satisfaction guarantee. This new product is multifunctional, and can
take the place of several other items. There is nothing quite like it on the market. L.L. Bean will
present a product of value to the customer, lessening the risk of competitors taking business away.
A second potential risk lies in marketing to the proper audience and reaching their target. The
mitigation plan to address this risk involves making use of L.L. Bean s already established
clientele. The new product

Are the Children in Good Hands

ENGL 110C

Flaws in the System The requirements for foster parents are not adequate enough to ensure that
the children are in good hands. Foster care is when a child is provided with a temporary family life.
Children that are placed in foster care are neglected, abused, or removed due to extreme
circumstances that occur in the household. Social services play an important role on selecting the
right foster parents for the children. To become a foster parent there are many requirements and
regulations necessary to place the child in the right temporary custody. Some minimum
requirements to become a foster parent include that you have to be at least twenty one years old,

The only exception allowed should be if a twenty one year old wants to take in a biological
brother or sister. The risk of allowing younger adults to become foster parents is the short age
difference. It s very common for younger children to be attracted or have little crushes on
younger adults close to their age, but when younger adults are attracted to underage children, that
s when the problem occur. There are younger adults and older adults who want to become foster
parents are not applying for the financial gain or any other incentive but to sexually abuse a child.
A single twenty four year old man was indicted for raping one of his foster sons in 1995
(Incentives to Foster Parents). His sick obsession with younger children drove him into becoming a
foster parent solely to get his hands on younger children. Not all younger foster parents are not like
this man, but the age difference needs to be raised to at least twenty seven to decrease the chance of
something like that from happening again. Increasing the age difference also ensures that the
younger adults maturity level is higher. In Virginia, prospective foster parents can t house over six
children under the age of eighteen. With that many children under one roof, the children are not
getting enough one on one time with the foster parent. The child would feel lost in the crowd,
neglected, and not important. This requirement should be

Essay For The National Honor Society
I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered for the

since the beginning of my high school career. I believe that this organization does great things in

During the summer after ninth grade, I worked at my father s company, AAE, located in Livonia.
There I took leadership in starting a new project. In 2011, my father s business received 8A

the order to another company, but this would result in decreased profit. I encouraged my father to

The Structure Of A Building
Nowadays anything can be considered workmanship. The structure of a building, the human
body, music on the radio, love, Versaci s new line of winter, and beautiful transvestites strolling
down the road are only a couple of countless cases. That sort of craftsmanship is misrepresented.
The greater part of these exist as a result of society. As individuals develop and change so does the
qualities and customs that they are acclimated to. Genuine workmanship holds tight the dividers of
historical centers everywhere throughout the world. Works of art by Monet, Da Vinci, and Picasso
speak to all that can be made lovely by a man s touch. The word tattoooriginates from the Tahitian
word tattau, which signifies to tap, and can be followed back through a piece of history. The
specialty of tattoos has been apparent since antiquated Egypt and over 1,500 years prior the
Japanese checked hoodlums as an image of disgrace for their discipline (Britannica, 2000). In the
nineteenth century tattoos were seen as horrible and abnormal, yet as the twentieth century moved
by innovation offered route to the pattern. The electric needle made a feeling of accuracy and

about expression, as opposed to marking.

Relational Database Management System ( Rdbms )
Abstract:
In Nowadays, there are two major of database management systems which are use to deal with
data, the first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the
traditional relational databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades
since 1970, while the second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL),
they are dealing with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL types are gaining their
popularity with the development of the internet and the social media since April 2009. NoSQL
are intending to override the cons of RDBMs, such as fixed schemas, JOIN operations and
handling the scalability problems. In this paper we will review one of the graph database (Neo4j),
which the graph database is part of the emerging technology that is called NoSQL and compared
it with one of the traditional relational database (MySQL). MySQL, it is being another name for
Relational Databases and it has been used for a long period time until now. However, with the
emergence of Big Data there was clearly a need for more flexible databases. Facebook s Graph
Search using Neo4j, a graph database, is an application which clearly displays how relationships
need to be modeled in a more efficient and sophisticated manner than using conventional relational
models. In this paper, we will make a compare between MySQL and Neo4j based on the features
like ACID, replication, availability and the language that is used in both of

What Are The Causes Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution began in 1775 19th of April and it ended in 1783 on September 3rd. The
American Revolution began in the Lexington and Concord battle (April 1775). With tension
building up between the thirteen colonists and the British the Lexington and Concord battle started
the American Revolution. The shot at Lexington marked the first blood spilled in the war of
American independence. There were many key causes, including the taxes that the British were
charging America, the Boston Tea Partyand the clash at Lexington and Concord.
I think that the most important cause of the American Revolution was the issue of taxes. When the
French and Indian war (also known as The Seven year war ) took place (1754 1763) King George

The Patriots would cover the tax collectors in hot, sticky tar and feathers. It would burn the tax

they had helped the British win the war and they did not deserve to be taxed. The thirteen colonies
had to pay taxes on things such as dice, playing cards, sugar, tea, printed documents and much
more. I think that this is a key cause of the American Revolution because if you are not used to
paying taxes and all of a sudden you have to pay a lot of taxes it can lower your budget for daily
things like groceries and water. I also think that this is one of the main causes because after a
seven year war the British are making them pay for their own help. I think that this caused many
people to feel frustrated, angry, fooled, offended and as if they hadn t done anything for the
British. The Americans understood that they had to be taxed but they wanted a say in for what
they had to be taxed and how much they had to pay. The Patriots started to see King George III as
a tyrant. They wanted him gone and have a say in the Parliament. They came up with the slogan,

Health Promotion Of Mental Health
Reading and reflecting on the assigned articles for the week, urged me to consider health
promotion in mental health (MH). Specifically how the Social Cognitive approach (SCT) is
applied to programs in the field of mental health. It appears that SCT has been extensively applied to
physiological health promotion (Bandura, 2004) more so than that of mental health disorders and
problems. Although there may be less inquiry into behaviour changes in MH, stigma (individual
and collective) in MH has been examined in relation to SCT guided programs. The two intervention
articles read as well as some other health related SCT guided interventions, suggest that changes in
health behaviour could be associated with prevention, reduction or improved health management.
Perhaps these results could support an increase in SCT application for MH on both an individual
and global scale. A large portion of intervention studies indicating significant outcomes through
SCT, rely to some extent on an observation of model component in the delivered intervention. This
is not to say that SCT interventions rely solely on modelling. Activities encouraging competence
and providing relevant information such as video games and role play, demonstrate the
contribution and role of knowledge and self efficacy in health related changes to behaviour. At the
same time it lends itself to an agentic application of self in producing desirable behaviour changes
or health outcomes. The focus here is not to make guesses

The Link Between Anxiety And Depression
Research
Topic: Anxiety and depression are often linked, experts say, as dealing with long term anxiety can
lead to depression, or one may feel anxious about their battle with depression.
In order to talk about the link between Anxiety and Depression, there is a word that must be
discussed: comorbidity. According one paper, Comorbidity may imply either the co occurrence
of two or more disorders in an individual at a given time, or the manifestation of multiple
disorders during the lifetime of the individual. (Seligman and Ollendick, pg. 125) Two disorders
may be comorbid when there is symptom overlap; when one underlying construct is split into
two separate disorders ; when disorders share risks, or when one disorder causes or increases the
risk of developing the second disorder. (S and o, pg. 125) People with comorbid disorders are,
typically more severely impaired than children with either disorder alone. (1) However, there has
only been a limited amount of research done on individuals with comorbid disorders, as
comorbidity often serves to exclude people from entry. This paper with specifically discuss and
expand upon the comorbidity between anxiety and depression.
Anxiety and depression are highly comorbid disorders. In a study done about the relationship
between anxiety and depression, researchers found a group of 106 children who struggled with
DSM III diagnosed anxiety disorder. Of those 106 children, 28% were found to have a comorbid
depressive disorder.

Generally, BoldFlash is encountering various difficulties, comprehensive of shopper dependability,

Langston Hughes Dream Deferred Essay
langston huges dream defered
After the Civil War won the black people their freedom, it seemed as though their dreams of great
opportunities were finally going to come true. However, they were met by even more obstacles,
which left the blacks to wonder if their dreams had any chance of occurring, or if they should just
give up. In his poem, Harlem, Langston Hughes used increasingly destructive imagery to present
his warning of what will happen if you delay working towards your goal.
Hughes first two images depict withering and drying, a sense of death. His first example, a dried
raisin, conveys that the dream deferred has shriveled into nothing and has no hope of ever
happening. The dried raisin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, since a sore can be irritating and bothering, we can deduce that the dream deferred keeps
nagging at the person. This prevents the person from ignoring or forgetting about their dream.
The following image, which compares the dream to a sagging, heavy load, shows how burdensome
it can be. It s as though the memory of the dream is in the bag, and the disappointment of the
dream s impossibility weighs the dreamer down. The dream deferred (bag) is very heavy and
onerous. However, if the dreamer carries the bag long enough, they get to enjoy the reward (their
dream) waiting inside.
The final image used to describe a dream deferred is an explosion. The worsening conditions in
Hughes comparisons build up to the final dГ©nouement of a violent explosion. This explosion is
all of the pent up emotions, thoughts, and feelings of the dream deferred, which build up inside
you until, finally, they are expressed all at once in one big eruption.
Throughout the poem Harlem, Langston Hughes wrote with increasingly destructive images to
warn of the dangers of postponing your dreams. These images help present the poem s very
strong message that a dream deferred can be very painful. The thought of how great the dream is
nags at the dreamer s mind until they can no longer bear it. The explosion result of this pestering
dream deferred can actually be good for the dreamer. The dreamer may

False Recognition Vs False Memory
We remember what we understand; we understand only what we pay attention to; we pay attention
to what we want, is a famous memory quote stated by an actor, Edward Bolles. Memory is a broad
term that reflects different processing abilities on how humans encode, store and retrieves
information. There are numerous domains in the human s memoryability with the storage and
retrieval of short term and long term information. For many centuries, theorist has tested recall and
recognition capabilities on the human s memory functions. Memory retention is our ability to retain
experiences based on the mental process, through the organization of information through meaning,

The results indicated that the recognition test had accuracy hits than false recognition, whereas,
the recall test had a higher range of false recall. As a result, false memories could be created
during the recall. Prior memory consumption with a long interval break over time can affect one
s performance. A study was performed on the long term recall and recognition of past learned
material. The results showed higher memory retention in earlier years and decrease retention
after 3 years (Noice Noice, 2002). Brand names are known to influence memory responses.
Lerman and Garbarino (2002) research compared words versus nonwords, relevant versus
irrelevant words, and words cueing an advertised attribute versus words cueing unadvertised
attribute. They found recall was significantly higher for words brands names and words related to
advertised attributes were higher in the recall group. In addition, the recognition accuracy was
higher for non words than word names and higher for irrelevant words. Rare word and attachment
to common words can affect one s memory performance. Dewhurst, Brandt, ND Sharp (2004) study

Immigrant Reality Exposed in Bread Givers Essay
Immigrant Reality Exposed in Bread Givers
For thousands of years people have left their home country in search of a land of milk and honey.
Immigrants today still equate the country they are immigrating to with the Promised Land or the
land of milk and honey. While many times this Promised Land dream comes true, other times the
reality is much different than the dream. Immigration is not always a perfect journey. There are
many reasons why families immigrate and there are perception differences about immigration and

your old pots and pans (9). He has an incredibly unrealistic picture of America. He even believes

America he will not have to do anything, he will simply be rich. Unfortunately, his dream is quickly

pay the rent regularly and when the landlady shows up on their doorstep, she is upset and says,
The cheek of those dirty immigrants! A fool I was, giving them a chance another month (17).
These words are a far cry from the father s expectation that all America will come to my feet to
learn (9). Discrimination is certainly not what the family expects upon their arrival in America.
They expect a welcome with open arms and what they receive is just the opposite.
The Smolinsky parents come to America with Old World ideals ingrained into them. They do not

Wabi-Sabi Research Paper
Japanese Art
And the Philosophy of Wabi Sabi
Japanese art is very simplistic and understated. There are many different forms of ancient
Japanese art: pottery, calligraphy, sculpture, ink paintings, origami and many more. Decorated
clay vessels are the very earliest art forms discovered from around 11,000 to 300 B.C. When
Buddhism came to Japan, it also began to have an impact on the art. Even though Japan is an
island and was isolated both physically, geographically, as well as culturally its art was influenced
by the Chinese and Korean cultures, which the Japanese would use in ways that fit their own
culture. A major influence on the art of Japan was the Wabi Sabi philosophy, which infiltrates all
aspects of the Japanese culture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A very strong dynamic was the influence of Buddhism along with the ongoing and progressive
refining of the philosophy behind the art known as Wabi Sabi. Finding beauty in the imperfect and
incomplete is an attempt to capture this philosophy which is the silent message in much of the
Japanese painting, architecture, and sculpture. The simplistic beauty of the art together with the
heart of Wabi Sabi profoundly reflect the culture of the Japanese

Determining The Ph Of Household Items
Determining the pH of Household Items
March 22, 2016: Sara, Sam
Introduction: Everyday household items can be seen as just household items . However, it is
often not realized that we could actually determine the pH very easily. It could also be important
to know the pH in everyday life. For example, it is important to keep track of human pH levels.
Some people are curious to see the pH of their own body, which is a great use to keep acidic
levels leveled. Another use in real life is determining the pH of pools. Whether it s your own or a
public pool, pH indicators come in hand to make sure the pool is sanitary and safe. pH indicators
are indicators that contain halochromic synthetic compound which is added to a solution so that it
can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example would be pure water. Most of the time the pH is determined by pH paper but there are
also other ways to determine the pH. For example, in this lab, cabbage juice was used. Cabbage
juice is a great pH indicator because it can be homemade and easy to access.
Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this experiment is to use both cabbage juice and pH paper
to determine the pH of household items. This way, we can tell which products are basic and
which one are acidic. If we use cabbage juice as an universal pH indicator by comparing it to pH
paper then pH determined by the cabbage juice will be unstable because by using cabbage juice, it
can be different depending on how diluted it is.
List of Materials needed:
1 drop bottle of cabbage juice
Beakers (depending on how many items)
pH paper
Spot plate(s)
Household products (Dish detergent, coffee, laundry detergent, milk, tap water, etc)
Procedure:
1.In order to find the pH of each household item by using pH paper, the pH paper was placed on
the drop plate. Using the dropper, start by having the household item dropped onto the pH paper.
Immediately observe in order to spot any colour changes on the pH paper. To determine the pH
by using the pH scale and record the pH on your table of observations. Depending on what the pH
is, it could be very acidic, basic or neutral. Repeat these steps for the other products.
2.The second step in this lab is to use

The Portrayal Of The Catholic Church
The Portrayal of the Catholic Church in Film The Catholic Church as we know it is much different
than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to
mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s
what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very
different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in
todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system
or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or
attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The CatholicChurch had great
influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who
operated under a theocratic ruling. With Godbeing the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the
next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and
everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access to education,
individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The
ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian, and to
conquer lands that were not under Christian rule and use them under the power of the Catholic
Church. The goal of the inquisition was to send out

Administration
Windows Server Advantages There are many administration advantages for Windows Servers.
One aspect is domain operations which are an important resource available on the network
through Window Server. Making Window Server a domain controller adds security and the
ability to add local and group policies to the network (Garza, 2010). If Window Server is not
promoted to the status of a domain controller, then it can run simple network operations using peer
to peer structures (Garza, 2010). These are workgroups, and they can only block or allow access
but do not provide control features for the network. The numbers of ... Show more content on

Disadvantages One of the biggest disadvantages is that it does not have a specific organization
which updates and provides services, or software tweaks in a regular manner as Windows does.
Another disadvantage is that the lack of graphical user inters faces, or the absence of free tools and
software when compared to Windows (Host wisely, 2011).
Performance
Windows Server Advantages Windows server offers anywhere access with great flexibility, which
allows a company to build, deploy, and manage applications and websites on premises, in the
cloud, or in hybrid environments using a consistent set of tools and framework Windows server
also offers frameworks, services, and tools to help increase scalability. (Microsoft, 2012).
Disadvantages Windows servers are notorious for being vulnerable to worms while there have been
basically no worms affecting UNIX in the past ten years. Any server running on windows should
really have anti virus software on it just like a desktop would. While window servers are
unaffected by this they are just as susceptible to malicious and mischievous hackers as window
servers and therefore must still be patched UNIX Advantages There are many performance

  • 2. Pros And Cons Of Marijuana Law Marijuana use in the United States has been increasing throughout the United States, along with the number of marijuana related arrests. In 2011, law enforcement agencies made 574,641 arrests for small quantities of the drug intended for personal use, the marijuana arrests were about 13.6 percent more than the 505,681 arrests made for all violent crimes, including murder, rape and serious assaults (Williams, 2016). Illegal and legal marijuana use is associated with high rates of property and violent crime rates, but in recent studies evidence was found to support the opposite. Shepard Blackley (2016) found that legalized medical marijuana does not have a negative effect on violent and property crime. Morris et al. (2014) found that medical marijuana laws are not predictive of higher violent and property crimes, but may be related to reductions in violent and property crimes. Maier et al. (2017) found that states with decriminalized and legalized marijuana laws compared to states without did not differ in rates of property, violent, or drug abuse crimes. To better understand this social issue, one must look at it from the view of each of the sociological theories; Functionalism, Conflict Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism. These theories help sociologist explain and understand the different aspects of social interactions and issues. Functionalism is a macro level theory, which focuses on large scale social interactions, and views society as a structure with interrelated parts that are designed to meet the biological and social needs of individuals in a society (OpenStax, 2015). Herbert Spencer was the first to recognize a relationship between the parts of the society and the whole society. He explains the theory by comparing the society to a human body and the organs to social institutions; social institutions help society run smoothly and efficiently (OpenStax, 2015). Functionalists believe that social issues weaken a society s stability, but that they also serve important functions for the society. Functionalist view the issue of marijuana related arrests as individuals who partook in deviant behaviors, or behaviors that go against cultural norms, and received negative sanctions for their actions. ... Often considered to be a code, device, acronym or formula to facilitate memory or understanding (p.7). Mnemonic devices are memory aids that help learners in recalling particular data by using a strategy or technique that enable learners to develop memory(Richmond, Cummings Klapp, 2008). During the ancient time of Rome and Greece, mnemonicdevices have been applied in order to make the acquisition of target words easier by providing clear pictures for thoughts and ideas (Baleghizadeh Ashoori, 2010). • 4. Symbolism In Anthem By Ayn Rand If you take myth and folklore, and these things that speak in symbols, they can be interpreted in so many ways that although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible colour you could imagine (Diana Wynne Jones). Symbols are objects, characters, figures, or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. In Anthem by Ayn Rand, symbols are used throughout the novel, allowing to reveal more hidden information about Equality as a person as well as how it portrays to theme. Throughout the novel, multiple different symbols are being portrayed, although the symbol of light depicts the full meaning of the characters and theme of Anthem. Ayn Rand uses light to symbolize knowledge, hope, freedom, and life. The light symbolizes hope since, it shows how Equality separates himself from collectivism and thinks for himself when he proclaims We made it. We created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only (59). By contrast to the light of the box, the City is dark and only lit by candlelight. Therefore the light shows the hope that Equality and all others have of breaking away from the collective society and becoming individuals and to have freedom to be themselves. The discovery of light starts Equality s journey of changing the society and granted him the chance to create a new world where light and other things from the Unmentionable Times exist. The symbolization of the light in Anthem helps characterize Equality as an individual in the novel in various different ways. The light allowed and led Equality to his freedom of being himself rather than characterized as a group with his brothers. Equality discovering and inventing the lightbulb was his first realization of individuality. In the dark haze of this society, all things are indistinct. Until when light is brought to display can those with abnormal qualities be distinguished from the crowd. Consequently, Equality s lightbulb makes him a sign of massive social disturbance but, at the same time that it helps him see himself as the unique individual that he truly is. Tomorrow, in the full light of day, we shall take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New technologies and ideas helped the nation grow, while the Civil War ripped the nation apart. During this tumultuous period, two great American writers captured their ideas in poetry. Their poems give us insight into the time period, as well as universal insight about life. Although polar opposites in personality, Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman created similar poetry. Dickinson s Hope is a Thing with Feathers and Whitman s O Captain! My Captain! share many qualities. br br Hope is a Thing with Feathers and O Captain! My Captain! contain a similar scansion. Unlike in Dickinson s poem, the rhyming scheme carries throughout the whole poem, although the AABBCDED rhyme pattern contains a few cases of near rhyme. br br Dickinson and Whitman also use similar poetic devices in Hope is a Thing with Feathers and O Captain! My Captain! Each poem contains an extended metaphor. In Dickinson s poem, a bird clearly symbolizes hope. The first stanza introduces the bird metaphor: В‘Hope is the thing with feathers /That perches in the soul. The next lines В‘And sings the tune without the words /And never stopsВ—at allВ— illustrate the interminable nature of the bird and hope. The second stanza expands the metaphor by saying В‘And sweetestВ—in the GaleВ—is heardВ—. The bird s song, or hope, is the sweetest during a Gale, or troubled times. The first lines in the final stanza В‘I ve heard it in the chillest land / And on the strangest Sea describe the bird, or hope, as being everywhere. The last lines В‘Yet, never, in Extremity,/It asked a crumbВ —of Me show the unselfish nature of the bird; hope never asks for anything in return. O Captain! My Captain! contains a more complicated and cryptic extended metaphor. Basically, Abraham Lincoln captains the metaphorical ship of the United States through the Civil War. The main ingredient in most gummy bears is gelatin. Gelatin is a collagen. It is derived from animals such as pig skin, cow skin or bones. In the United States, gummy bears are made of gelatin. In other parts of the world where eating pork is not accepted, gummy bears are made with a substitute of gelatin. Some ingredients used to make gummy bears include sugar, citric acid, gelatin, starch and food coloring. In this experiment, I hope to see how osmosis and diffusion will play a role in the interaction between the gummy bears and the different solutions. The gelatin in the gummy bear result in weaker bonds due to the acidity of the apple cider vinegar solution. The Smart water and tap water gummy bear were over expanded probably due to osmosis. The water moved from outside the gummy bear into the gummy bear because there is a high solute concentration in the gummy bears. The gummy bear in the honey solution probably did not expand much due to the solute concentration of the water and gummy bear. It did lose its shape due to the acidity of the solution. • 8. Police Discrimination And Discrimination Most middle class whites have no idea what it feels like to be subjected to police who are routinely suspicious, rude, belligerent, and brutal (Benjamin Spock) . In the United States and around the world different people face discrimination, inequality, and racism because of the color of their skin instead of content of their character. However, the shocking thing is that the violence can be seen in the protectors of Peace and Liberty, the Police. They as humans also hold a sense of bias and racismand act accordingly to their own personal desire instead of by the law. African Americans have cower and be weary around the police because the police are rude and belligerent. When someone of a certain raceare faced with inequality and discrimination there will be protest and when protest do not work it becomes riots. The thing that sparked the Watts Riots was when a police officer attacks a black male and his mother for drinking and driving. In a New York Times article it states, When another officer began hitting Mr. Frye and his mother, who had rushed to the scene, onlookers started throwing stones and bottles . This shows that there was fault in Mr. Frye for drinking and drinking but he should have been fine or arrested instead of being abused and assaulted. In one of the large hospitals in my area had recently developed a poster and video approach with special focus on alternatives to urinary catheterization, removing catheters early, and the reinforcement of sterile technique prior insertion and foley catheter care were used to educate nursing staff and improve outcomes. The cost of a single episode to treat UTI s ranges from $980 $2900, depending on the presence of the bacteremia (Saint, 2000). Differences in care based on evidence Sterile technique is required for insertion of an indwelling urinary catheter in the hospital setting, but clean technique can be used for intermittent catheterization in non acute settings. By itself, sterile technique on insertion doesn t prevent UTI s. Prevention of UTI s depends on knowledge of causes, proper care techniques, and early catheter removal. Nurses are taught early on in school that sterile technique helps to reduce infections. It was drilled in our heads the entire time and now to have the evidence tell us that early catheter removal, along with proper technique good hand hygiene is the key to reduce UTI s. But the only noise you can hear is the sound of your cleats hitting the pavement as you are marching up to the field, and the only thing you see is the other team and the end zone. It is such a stimulating feeling, it is unforgettable. Now, you may think I am talking about an American footballgame, but I am not. I am talking about a rugby match. In rugby, players are taught to use their arms to wrap a player s legs and let the momentum of that player cause him to go to ground. Romantic escapism is an extremely important element of John Keats poetry, serving as a foundation for many of his poems. In the ode to a Nightingale he is pouring out his thoughts and is longing for escape from the world full of strife, sadness and grief. The recurrence of this theme in his poems is actually not only a part of romanticism, but also greatly a result of his personal unfortunate experiences in life. This painful experience in life is what makes him somewhat pessimistic and compels him to resort to the option of escapism through his poetry ( KEATS PROJECTION OF ROMANTIC ESCAPISM ). The poem Ode to a nightingale begins with the narrator saying he feels a drowsy numbness but the feeling is not from jealousy of the nightingale s happiness because the narrator rejoices in the song. While listening to and appreciating the sweetly sung song of the nightingale, Keats too, wishes to become like her so that he can fly away from the cruel world that has given him nothing else but pain. That I might drink, and leave the world unseen, and with thee fade away into the forest dim. (Keats 1006) Through the use of the nightingale, a very real living creature in nature, Keats has provided us with both a real bird and a symbol of the immortality that is nature. • 12. An Explanation Of The Song Astronauts According to Ryo Mizoguchi the song Astronauts is a late apology to his friend or partner for letting them down. Based on the lyrics I believe the singer is blaming himself for causing his partner/friend to leave. The singer then tells himself that if he didn t have so many flaws, then maybe he could still be with that person. However, he has so many regrets that they pile in his mind and feels that he deserves to be lonely. Mizoguchi wrote this song to sing to them one last time in an attempt to apologise to them. In the end he realises he can t get them back so he moves on but he still holds negative feelings towards himself. The song demonstrates a melancholy and remorseful mood in its lyrics: Believe me when I say, I try to everyday But my words wouldn t reach you. Hey isn t that strange? I just wish I could see you, but my legs can t seem to move It s as if they say, You deserve it , I guess that it s true (58 65) This stanza indicates the singer is sorry for not trying harder for his partner or friend. • 17. Joseph Heller s Catch 22 Joseph Heller s Catch 22 embodies the idea of the corrupt selfishness of the military system that dehumanizes the men of it s ranks. Often, the bureaucratically inclined superior officers focus only on personal advancement. In doing so, they eliminate any shred of humanity of the men who serve under them. Ultimately, each commanding officerdemonstrates a complete lack of moral judgment that considers only their own personal agenda at the cost of the common soldier. Heller s treatment of a corrupt bureaucratic system first emerges in his portrait of Major Major. Among the most pathetic characters in the book, Major Major holds a position of immense authority. Unfortunately, he was promoted to squadron commander. Colonel Cathcart directly pointed out, But don t think it means anything, because it doesn t. All it means is you re the new squadron commander. To support rapid industrialization, the central government undertook large scale investments in physical and human capital during the 1960s and 1970s. As a result, by 1978 nearly three fourths of industrial production was produced by centrally controlled, state owned enterprises (SOEs), according to centrally planned output targets. Private enterprises and foreign invested firms were generally barred. A central goal of the Chinese government was to make China s economy relatively self sufficient. Foreign trade was generally limited to obtaining only those goods that could not be made or obtained in China. Government policies kept the Chinese economy relatively stagnant and inefficient, mainly because most aspects of the economy were managed and run by the central government (and thus there were few profit incentives for firms, workers, and farmers), competition was virtually nonexistent, foreign trade and investment flows were mainly limited to Soviet bloc countries, and price and production controls caused widespread distortions in the economy. Chinese living standards were substantially lower than those of many other developing countries. The Chinese government in 1978 (shortly after the death of Chairman Mao in 1976) decided to break with its Soviet style economic policies by gradually reforming the economy according to free market principles and opening up trade and investment with the West, in the hope that this would significantly increase economic growth and raise ... • 19. Descriptive Essay About A Shack Back in 1981, my dad, uncle, aunt and grandpa all helped work on building a shack in the middle of the woods. At the time it was built, none of them could have imagined what it would mean to the family today. I bet, back during that summer, they were only concerned with where the deer were, but although the deer have moved on from that area, the shack still sees widespread use. Now days, we use it for a place to sleep before going out duck hunting because of the Willow River and the many logans that surround it. On the contrary, the shack gets used for one, non hunting event, every year: the spaghetti feed. Because of its importance, the shack is instrumental in bringing the family together. When I was a little boy, only about five years old, I spent my first night at the shack. Before this I had only heard of the shack and what it looked like: barn shaped; red, chink board siding all surrounded by trees. Now that I am finally able to go up there, I can not wait to see it for myself. The ride to the shack was nothing standard; we had to take four wheelers through some hay fields, then get on a county road and drive to the north for a while. After that we turn off, onto a trail along the ditch bank near the rice paddies and follow that until we get to a clearing in the woods. At the clearing there is not much to see; just some trees on the outside, on the left there is a 1960s looking Mack truck parked by the ditch bank, and to the right is the way to the shack. The road is nothing more than matted down grass, about 18 feet wide, through the woods, and as we continue through the woods I can smell the scent of grasses and flowers, along with the smell of exhaust from the vehicle in front of us. Riding along the trail for a while longer, I can finally see it, pushing through the trees, the shack. Getting closer, I can smell the smoke from the woodstove, or maybe the firepit. In front, the deck juts out from the front of the building, like a branch on a tree. On the north side of the yard is a large woodpile, it smells of balsam and pine, and to the right of that is the old, dilapidated building my dad and uncle lived in while building the shack. The low skilled poor migrants face hostility in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future immigrationto Europe(Glazer, 2010). In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer, 2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment, school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010). Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity which some ... • 21. Comparing Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, And Tantra Yoga The story, myth, and background of Kali can be interpreted in many different ways. There are three strands of yoga that have developed over the past centuries. The tree strands are Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, and Tantra Yoga. Classical Yoga is a dualistic model in which purusha and prakriti are completely separate. Everything has an equal and opposite counter part in this strand of yoga. Advaita Vedanta Yoga was a response to dualistic, Classical Yoga. This strand of yoga is monistic and is a view that affirms the unity of all things. Everything is one. The divine consciousness is everywhere and in everything we see. TantraYoga is non dualistic while also realizing and accepting that there is diversity in the world. Each of these strands of yoga looks at Kali s story differently and its significance is different in each view. In Classical Yoga, the view is that one must overcome prakriti. In doing so, the individual is able to free the mind from their body to experience purusha. Kali is the creator of prakriti. She is the force that drives the world and it s lila. It is often thought that when a bad storm or tornado hits, it is her doing. A yogi of this view would meditate to Kali as the goddess of destruction, not the mother. Relational Database Management System ( Rdbms ) Abstract: In Nowadays, there are two major of database management systems which are use to deal with data, the first one called Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) which is the traditional relational databases, it deals with structured data and have been popular since decades since 1970, while the second one called Not only Structure Query Language databases (NoSQL), they are dealing with semi structured and unstructured data; the NoSQL types are gaining their popularity with the development of the internet and the social media since April 2009. NoSQL are intending to override the cons of RDBMs, such as fixed schemas, JOIN operations and handling the scalability problems. In this paper we will review one of the graph database (Neo4j), which the graph database is part of the emerging technology that is called NoSQL and compared it with one of the traditional relational database (MySQL). MySQL, it is being another name for Relational Databases and it has been used for a long period time until now. However, with the emergence of Big Data there was clearly a need for more flexible databases. Facebook s Graph Search using Neo4j, a graph database, is an application which clearly displays how relationships need to be modeled in a more efficient and sophisticated manner than using conventional relational models. In this paper, we will make a compare between MySQL and Neo4j based on the features like ACID, replication, availability and the language that is used in both of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. What Are The Causes Of The American Revolution The American Revolution began in 1775 19th of April and it ended in 1783 on September 3rd. The American Revolution began in the Lexington and Concord battle (April 1775). With tension building up between the thirteen colonists and the British the Lexington and Concord battle started the American Revolution. The shot at Lexington marked the first blood spilled in the war of American independence. There were many key causes, including the taxes that the British were charging America, the Boston Tea Partyand the clash at Lexington and Concord. I think that the most important cause of the American Revolution was the issue of taxes. The Patriots would cover the tax collectors in hot, sticky tar and feathers. It would burn the tax collector and they would be black for days. The Americans thought that taxing them was unfair as they had helped the British win the war and they did not deserve to be taxed. The thirteen colonies had to pay taxes on things such as dice, playing cards, sugar, tea, printed documents and much more. I think that this is a key cause of the American Revolution because if you are not used to paying taxes and all of a sudden you have to pay a lot of taxes it can lower your budget for daily things like groceries and water. I also think that this is one of the main causes because after a seven year war the British are making them pay for their own help. I think that this caused many people to feel frustrated, angry, fooled, offended and as if they hadn t done anything for the British. The Americans understood that they had to be taxed but they wanted a say in for what they had to be taxed and how much they had to pay. The Patriots started to see King George III as a tyrant. • 33. Health Promotion Of Mental Health Reading and reflecting on the assigned articles for the week, urged me to consider health promotion in mental health (MH). Specifically how the Social Cognitive approach (SCT) is applied to programs in the field of mental health. It appears that SCT has been extensively applied to physiological health promotion (Bandura, 2004) more so than that of mental health disorders and problems. Although there may be less inquiry into behaviour changes in MH, stigma (individual and collective) in MH has been examined in relation to SCT guided programs. The two intervention articles read as well as some other health related SCT guided interventions, suggest that changes in health behaviour could be associated with prevention, reduction or improved health management. Perhaps these results could support an increase in SCT application for MH on both an individual and global scale. A large portion of intervention studies indicating significant outcomes through SCT, rely to some extent on an observation of model component in the delivered intervention. This is not to say that SCT interventions rely solely on modelling. Activities encouraging competence and providing relevant information such as video games and role play, demonstrate the contribution and role of knowledge and self efficacy in health related changes to behaviour. At the same time it lends itself to an agentic application of self in producing desirable behaviour changes or health outcomes. The focus here is not to make guesses ... The Link Between Anxiety And Depression Research Topic: Anxiety and depression are often linked, experts say, as dealing with long term anxiety can lead to depression, or one may feel anxious about their battle with depression. In order to talk about the link between Anxiety and Depression, there is a word that must be discussed: comorbidity. According one paper, Comorbidity may imply either the co occurrence of two or more disorders in an individual at a given time, or the manifestation of multiple disorders during the lifetime of the individual. (Seligman and Ollendick, pg. 125) Two disorders may be comorbid when there is symptom overlap; when one underlying construct is split into two separate disorders ; when disorders share risks, or when one disorder causes or increases the risk of developing the second disorder. (S and o, pg. 125) People with comorbid disorders are, typically more severely impaired than children with either disorder alone. (1) However, there has only been a limited amount of research done on individuals with comorbid disorders, as comorbidity often serves to exclude people from entry. However, they were met by even more obstacles, which left the blacks to wonder if their dreams had any chance of occurring, or if they should just give up. In his poem, Harlem, Langston Hughes used increasingly destructive imagery to present his warning of what will happen if you delay working towards your goal. It s as though the memory of the dream is in the bag, and the disappointment of the dream s impossibility weighs the dreamer down. The dream deferred (bag) is very heavy and onerous. However, if the dreamer carries the bag long enough, they get to enjoy the reward (their dream) waiting inside. The final image used to describe a dream deferred is an explosion. The worsening conditions in Hughes comparisons build up to the final dГ©nouement of a violent explosion. This explosion is all of the pent up emotions, thoughts, and feelings of the dream deferred, which build up inside you until, finally, they are expressed all at once in one big eruption. Throughout the poem Harlem, Langston Hughes wrote with increasingly destructive images to warn of the dangers of postponing your dreams. These images help present the poem s very strong message that a dream deferred can be very painful. The thought of how great the dream is nags at the dreamer s mind until they can no longer bear it.
