Lil Wayne Avoidant Attachment
Case Study 1: Lil Wayne Avoidant Attachment Lil Wayne demonstrates this behavior because he is
emotionally unresponsive to the fact his mother walked in and out of the room. Most avoidant
attached children learn early in life to suppress the natural desire to seek out a parent or adult for
comfort when frightened, distressed, or in pain. These children learn to rely heavily on self taught,
self soothing, self nurturing behaviors. They develop a pseudo independent adaptation to life and
maintain the image that they can take complete care of themselves. Which then results in, they
have little desire or motivation to seek out other people for help or support. Case Study 2: Chris

Kanye West
This picture is a perfect portrayal of celebrity culture in today s era. The desire to be virtually
connected and share everything in one s life is the new trend. And this has resulted from the
constant competition from the new community of microcelebrities , which is based on achieving
fame through broadcasting oneself through media. One of the demeaning aspect of the picture is
the lack of genuineness and enforcement of stylish lifestyle on the audience which makes it loose
the emotional quotient.
For me, the picture represents three key elements Kanye West, who achieved success because of his
songs, then Kim Kardashian, who rose to fame through the infamous sex tape and built her media
empire over it and finally the baby, North West, who is unaware of her surroundings where she will
be in constant gaze and would have to struggle, like her parents, to depict herself according to their
social stature. According to Braudy, this urge to be unique and constant competition is what drives
the Page 3 personalities to share and market their every life event which makes them superior to
others. As Guinness Book of Records demonstrates, everything humans can do has been turned into
something that humans can compete to do, with someone coming out on top, at least until ... Show

Anzia Yezierska’s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of...
Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of Jews
An entire chapter of Eric Liu s memoir, The Accidental Asian, is founded on the supposition that
Jews today serve as a metaphor for assimilation into American culture. According to Liu, this is due
to the ease with which Jews have been able to assimilate. However, the progress that Jews have
made in embracing and affecting America has been gradual rather than instantaneous, as evidenced
by the character Sara Smolensky in Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers. Sara is not the symbol
of an assimilated Jew, but instead represents a period of transition between complete assimilation
into American identity and complete dissimilation from her Jewish and Polish heritage, ... Show

Sara s willing dedication to her American identity, as represented by her clothing, is contrasted with
the blood relationship she has with her mother, and by extension her actions separate her from her
entire ancestry and ethnicity. Denounced for her refusal to comply with the traditions of her
culture, and disdainfully called an Americanerin, Sara experiences the social death that Sollors
describes, a result of her cultural relationships having become mutually antagonistic (xx). In this
scene she temporarily ceases to be Jewish and becomes to her people and to her family merely a
female American. This schism is paralleled by a more subtle contrast at the conclusion of the same
chapter that should be noted, when Sara hears the poverty stricken cries that Charity saves you
from death (256)! This statement of course cannot be literally true, but displays a further contrast
between the voluntary and the natural on a more literal level: voluntary generosity versus natural
inevitable death.
Sara is further distanced from her ethnicity through her resistance to the patriarchal doctrines of
Judaism that are followed by her family. Sexually biased Judaism is represented by her father and
his frequent citations of the Torah to justify such a position. When Sara refuses to marry the
wealthy Max Goldstein, her father tells her that the Torah says What s a woman without a man?

Masculinity In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The female characters in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream and John Webster s
The Duchess of Malfi mirror each other. The Duchess and Hermia show courage and determination
when standing up to their oppressors. Coriola and Helena, when confronted with authority, submit
to it. Regardless of the strength of the women, however, genre determines their fate those in the
comedy live happily ever after, whereas, those in the tragedy do not live at all. Duchess In The

Like the Duchess, Hermia s family also feels that they should control who she marries. Hermia s

so live, so die, my lord, / Ere I will yield my virgin patent up / Unto his lordship, whose unwishГЁd

and steels the power her father had over her. She courageously runs away with Lysander, for she
will only live life on her own terms. Furthermore, with her refusal of her father s arranged marriage,
she acknowledges that she cannot be bartered and sold like property, her hand would only be won
by someone she chooses. Instead of showing courage in the face of an oppressor, Coriola acts in a
different way. In the Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess maid does not share her strength and grace

Observation Essay
The park is welcoming, sprawling, open, and not especially crowded in the bright but gray
midday sunlight. It is on a suburban street so there isn t much noise pollution beyond the cars on
the moderately busy street on one side. The horizon is hidden by tall trees and 70 s style houses in
every direction. It is overcast, cool, windy but only slightly. The air smells as though it might rain
this evening.
Sitting sideways on a slotted metal bench, I face the playground. It s in good shape, not yet old
enough for the paint to be peeling or covered in a thick layer of Sharpie graffiti. Four children
climb, shouting at each other, their weary parents observing from a nearby table. A girl with a
ponytail climbs the narrow slide. As she reaches the top, she pushes a smaller girl out of the way,
prompting a warning bark from a distracted mother. She holds a dog leash in one hand, the yellow
lab on the end straining to go play. She returns to her phone conversation. Across the table, an

Compare And Contrast Edmund Spenser And Sonnet 5
How does one gain immortality? According to Edmund Spenser (c. 1552 1599), William
Shakespeare (1564 1616) and Michael Drayton (1563 1631) you do it through poetry. In their
respective sonnets Sonnet 75 (One day I wrote her name upon the strand), Sonnet 18 (Shall I
compare thee to a summer s day?) and Sonnet6 (How many paltry, foolish, painted things) they
each tackle the topic of living forever through writing. While all three of these sonnets share the
common subject matter of preserving someone through sonnets, do they present them in a similar
manner? What senses do each poet use to get his point across? That will be the point of discussion
in this essay, first looking at each of the sonnets separately and then comparing the different ways in
which they appeal to the senses.
Edmund Spenser s Sonnet 75 (One day I wrote her name upon the strand) is written in the
Spenserian sonnet form, with 14 lines brought together in 3 quartets and 1 couplet with a rhyming
pattern of ABABBCBCCDCDEE. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Shakespeare and Spenser have the conflict of the natural, with Spenser and the waves and
Shakespeare with the metaphorical changing of seasons. Drayton s conflict seems to be on a more
human level, as his focus is what women to come will think of his woman and how they will see
her as superior. Unlike Spenser who preserves the object of his sonnet through the dialogue,
Shakespeare preserves it through the visual imagery. Drayton also has a clear visual emphasis
throughout his sonnet, even though his language has an added pride and sense of superiority to it
that are not present in the others. While the object of his sonnet is their sex s only glory
(Drayton, line 12) there is little to describe the woman herself, and more as to how others shall
remember her in awe and how she will live on through his words. This sets Drayton s sonnet a bit
apart from the

Television Violence Is Not the Problem Essay
Television Violence Is Not the Problem
We ve all heard the numbers on the amount of television that children watch and the amount of
violence that they re exposed to. In fact, sources that blame TV for children s conduct quote this
kind of data profusely. American children and adolescents spend 22 28 hours per week viewing
television more than any other activity except sleeping (_Effects of Television_). These kinds of
facts are strewn about with the hopes of convincing the public that television is to blame for
children s misbehaviors. Sources like these have one thing in common: They believe that if
television disappeared, so would many of kids aggressive behaviors. Though arguing whether or not
television is indeed an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blame is shifted away from the parents of offenders and is put on television. This scapegoating can
create television ratings, editing and censoring but will not reduce the negative behaviors of
children. If a child acts on what they see from television, it is because they were not reared with
the same values as a child who does not act on what they saw on television. For example, there is
not much difference in the news about Kurt Cobain. If two children see it but only one shotguns
themselves, there is a difference in the values that were taught.
Television portrays violence all the time but so do a number of other things. Books, for
example, have more radical information and ideas than television could ever depict. The tales in
books are far more juicier and interesting than could ever be portrayed by _The X Files_ or _The
Simpsons_. But we do not see the influences of books being executed in life, only those of TV.
Copycat crimes have been related to TV and movies, not books. This is for the simple reason that
TV is easier to access and is easier to pay attention to. This only proves that television is blamed
because it happens to be the medium that is most easily accessible; it is a victim of circumstance.
Distinguishing the various programs available for viewing proves that TV is a scapegoat. There
are lots of violent and shocking programs and there are ones that have little

Leadership Reflection For Senior Leadership
According to the Introduction to Strategic Studies Course Directive, This year presents an
opportunity to walk in the shoes of senior leaders making difficult and complex decisions before
you begin wearing them upon graduation. From the above sentence I can conclude that, this paper
could be the beginning of my journey to wear the higher level leaders shoes. As I am now starting
preparation for a future senior leadershipassignment, I have to equip myself with the required
knowledge and skills in order to act as senior military leader.
Therefore, Thomas Galvin outlines four mission specific roles and senior military leaders should
also take lessons from history, like from The Gulf War, 1990 1991, .
The four roles are, a strategic advisor and communicator, a strategic planner, a strategic theorist,
and senior leader at the strategic level. So that this paper will focus mainly on my reflection
towards to the first two mission specific roles.
Therefore, my choice from the roles are the strategic advisor and communicator, and the strategic
planner because working to exercise these roles would have more benefit to jump for the rest two
roles. From the case study, I have selected General Collin Powel and General H. Norman
Schwarzkopf roles from the case study. In order to link and reflect my future area that should be

similarities in all three of these religions. The most important one is of course the shared belief of
an almighty God, Ahura Mazda, Yehowa. The holy father is the one and only God in all three of
these regions. All three religions recognize the evil forces of the earth being led by one specific
entity. Resurrection, final judgment, hell, haven, and immortal soul, all of those elements
essentially come from Zoroastrian teachings and are very prevalent in Christianity and Judaism.
The element of fire, if you read how the bible describes judgment day, it is very similar to the

The Fallacy Of Public Education
The Fallacy of Public Education
Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their
minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of
each. Plato
For the last several decades, there has been a great return to homeschooling. Many families have
seen the need to remove their children from the public education system for a variety of reasons:
for religious grounds, because of a decline of morals in the public system, or to give their children
an education where they are not held back from reaching their potential. When homeschooling, a
child can work at their own pace often learning 2 years or more of material in one year and
allowing them to fully explore topics that interest them. Their intellectual curiosity can be fulfilled
and they can be the best they can possibly be. Students in the public school system are subjected to
teaching that is repetitive, biased, and falls short of academic success. In the past, students that
were failing coursework, but were getting older, were pushed on to higher grades even though
they were not ready for the more advanced coursework. In the 1980 s there was a great number of
graduates who could not even read. How can the proponents of the public education system even
make claims that to be successful today, children need to attend their institutions? Today s formal,
public educational system of schooling is not necessary because it is a system

The causes of court delays in Malta are attributable to...
Court delays had already existed during the British Colonial period and while some delays are
considered as necessary, many people consider these delays as totally unacceptable. Numerous
articles are found online or on newspapers with regard to this issue and some people argue that
the prolonging of court delays is in breach of the fundamental right to a fair hearing in a
reasonable time. These delays relate to a variety of factors which to a certain extent are
attributable to the procedure adopted in the court. However, other factors such as the legal
history, culture and social relations should also be taken into consideration. During the Colonial
period, the Maltese had resisted legal and judicial interventions by the British authorities and
this seems to affect the way we see the lawyer s professional role today. At this point in time
delays had already existed in civil litigation as the British Royal Commission (1911) investigated
these delays and it was in charge of reforms to the Maltese judicial procedure. It focused mostly
on the schedule followed by the courts for the hearing of cases. Through these investigations,
what emerged was that the system adopted for the hearing of civil cases seemed to be based on
the assumption that instead of a single session in which the case would be tried, there would be a
series of hearings, which could reach thirty or forty over a number of years and which were
usually separated from each other by periods of some three

The Role Of Dance Therapy For The Lgbt Community Essay
I earned my Bachelor s in Neuroscience from Centenary College of Louisiana, where I graduated
with departmental honors. While in college, I co founded a nonprofit that aimed to provide support
for the transgender community, especially those who were homeless veterans. I led workshops at
medical schools to teach future doctors how to provide comprehensive care to the LGBT
community. Through this grassroots community organizing, I realized current approaches to
medicine and research focus on genderin binary ways that leave out transgenderpopulations. These
experiences sparked my passion in biocultural anthropology and holistic human health. My interest
in human biology began when I worked as a part of a team that investigated dance therapy as a
form of treatment for the symptoms of Parkinson s disease. I conducted interviews in which
participants completed quality of life assessments. I learned about the significance of combining
subjective and objective measures of stress. The main findings were that after months of therapy,
patients showed slight improvement in tremor and gait as well as positive emotional life
assessments. As a team member, I collected data and presented research at the Society for
Neuroscience. Most research on Parkinson s focuses on cellular mechanisms in brain functioning
instead of treating symptoms as a product of environment. In order to apply this framework to
marginalized populations in my research, I had to learn how to successfully engage in

There were many things that were surprising and were astonishing to me. One of those things was
that negativity and positivity could be just genetic. I have never considered that it could be that
someone is naturally positive or negative. Another thing that I am startled from is that the author of
this book, Tom Rath, really thinks about what would fill Don s bucket to the greatest as a birthday

unusual. This is the part that really shocked me. I really felt bad when I read that the author was

Traumatic Stress
Most people probably know by now that high levels of unmanaged stress can lead to very serious
physical symptoms and illnesses. But did you know that excessive stress can also cause damaging
changes in your behaviors too, such as stress eating or self harming? These are just two ways in
which people try to stop feeling overwhelmed as stresstakes a toll on their lives. But there are many
others. Here are my five best tips to stop stress from ruining your life.
Tip #1 Take Small Steps
Question: How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time!
Just like the joke, if you are faced with an enormous task that seems just too hard to do, break it
down into little achievable steps and tackle them one at a time. It s easier to accomplish small
goals and doing so will give you a great sense of achievement. And as you finish each small step,
you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is that everyone always looks to be better off than you (in whatever way you
re thinking about) when see from your perspective, And falling short is one way to pile the stress
on. So to manage your stress levels in these situations, simply stop comparing yourself to
everyone you meet. That way you can never come off worse. And if you don t allow yourself to
feel inferior to everyone you meet, you will soon find your confidence starting to soar.
Tip #3 Get a Furry Friend
Stroking a furry animal has been shown to have such beneficial effects on your stress levels and
heart health that hospitals allow them in to help patients manage their stress, And research has
shown that during a play session with a dog, the owner s and dog s serotonin levels rose and stress
levels fell significantly. Pets can give your mood a much needed lift but if you are allergic to fur,
don t worry. Any pet, even a goldfish can be a great boost after a hard day. Just make sure you
repay your pet s loyalty by looking after it properly.
Tip #4 Laugh

The most annoying thing a public speaker is get down to every detail. This applies to any branch
of public speaking; audience members attentions spans are only enough to grasp the big picture.
This can come from a poor presentation or a distracted speaker. When a speaker talks too fast, it is
hard to grasp what they are saying. It also appears to their audiencethat they are nervous and overall
gives a negative vibe. Apologizing is another cringe worthy mistake. It halts all emotion and
focuses on the mistake a speaker made whether they are late, unprepared, or mispronounced a word.
The best thing that a public speaker can do is be confident.

Labor in Call Centers
CRITICAL ANALYSIS TAYLOR BAIN
Under scrutinized until the late 1990s, call centres have now got significant scholastic
consideration. The astounding and managed development of call centres, stretching out far past
their starting bases in the financial and telecommunications areas, has bewildered the early
scepticism. The competitive advantage for the companies picked up through the combination of
phone and VDU advances, giving immediate phone based client services and selling led to
widespread of this phenomenon. the growing financial sector has given the UK government s
modernising motivation, which expects to guarantee that, by 2002, 25% of its administrations are
open electronically.
This case they investigated the truth of the labour processes at the call centres and labour related
issues. In this process, it has touched upon civil arguments concerning the way of IT work and the
current organisation. The significance to the call centre labour procedure are two ranges of theories
in concern. Firstly, and in particular, attention will be provided for the pertinence of Foucauldian
electronic Panopticon viewpoints, whose fascination has demonstrated overwhelming to both
prevalent commentators (Arkin, 1997) and scholastics (Fernie and Metcalf, 1997) as they have
endeavored to theorise the nature and knowledge of call centre work. Also, it makes reference to
the idea of emotional labour , as expounded at first by Hochschild (1983).

Use Of P. D. James Narrative Logic In Children Of Men
P.D James narrative logic in Children of Men shows a conflicted view of dictatorship in times of
struggle and terrorist actions in response. James narrative logic seems to point to dictatorships
being a necessary evil, but only acceptable to a point. The narrative does not seem to justify
terrorist actions in response to a dictatorship, rather a lack of political apathy. James expresses these
points through the use of characterization, perspective, and plot events.
At first, it seems as though James is against dictatorship and sees it as an unreasonable response to
times of struggle. Xan is presented as a complex character, but still unconcerned with ethics and
power hungry. The dictatorship is shown as bad for the country overall, promoting mistreatment of
part of the country s population and political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sojourners are immigrant Omegas from worse off countries who come to England to have a

Are Men Known Scientificly To Be Funnier Than Women
Are men known scientifically to be funnier than women or is it just another stereotype? In the
popular press article the authors show evidence to explain why people may think men are funnier
than women. He first talks about how comedians are mostly guys all over the world from
Manhattan to Tokyo, men are most likely to create funnier cartoons, stand up comedy is
traditionally a maledominated field, and men s online dating profiles are comedic. He then
rebuttals that argument by explaining in Peter McGraw s class, his students had a joke writing
competition and based on a survey the men won but only to a small degree. He explains men s
jokes are offensive and distasteful and the highest rated joke was written by a woman, thus woman

Saint Ignatius Of Loyola Personal Writings
The book, Saint Ignatius of Loyola Personal Writings, was translated by Joseph A. Munitiz and
Philip Endean and first published in 1996. This book contains many aspects of St. Ignatius life,
from his reminiscences to his spiritual exercises. Inigo Lopez de Loyola was born in 1491 in
Spain, the youngest of 13 children. Inigo became a soldier at the age of 18 and began to refer to
himself at Ignatius. Ignatius becomes a man obsessed with his image and a life of luxury until his
conversion into a devout catholic. Saint Ignatius of LoyolaPersonal Writings tells the story of St.
Ignatius early life obsessed with his image, and his transformation into his ultimate obsession with
living a life dedicated to Christ, that I believe may have interfered with his growing relationship
with God.
St. Ignatius lived his life in vain. He was too concerned with his outward appearance, and his
reputation among others. In battle, his legs were badly injured. Even through the excruciating
pain, he made an effort to show no outer sign of discomfort. When his legs had healed, one leg
was left with an unsightly misconfiguration from the healing of the bones. He underwent another,
even more, painful surgery to fix his outer appearance. During his long recovery, St. Ignatius read
about the life of Christ and the saints. As he learned more about the holy lives of the saints, St.
Ignatius was converted and was determined to live a life the way Christ and the saints did.
After St. Ignatius was

Essay on Activision Blizzard Merger Case Study Analysis
CASE 3 8: The Activision Blizzard Merger
In December of 2007 the merger of Activision and Blizzard was announced. Blizzard
Entertainment, one of four divisions of Vivendi games, was the key ingredient for synergy between
the two firms. First, an introduction to the video game software industry is pertinent. This will be
followed by some discussion regarding the major trends and major players in the industry. Second,
some insight will be provided on the merging companies, Activision and Blizzard. Third, the
potential value of the merger will be explored, along with some analysis of the partnership. Lastly,
I will give my personal views of the merger itself.

Activision Pre merger: Activision was a leading developer and publisher of video game software
for consoles. Its top titles include Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk, and Call of Duty, all of which have
multiple games in their series. The company itself was moderately vertically integrated, with
ownership of some development, publishing, and distribution activities. Its strengths lie in its
growth strategies; partnerships allowed the firm to exclusive rights to certain brands. Other
strengths include leading game titles for multiple platforms, hit sequels that are less capital
intensive to develop, a stringent green light process for quality control, ability for online game
play, and divisions in over a dozen countries. Weaknesses include lack of existence in foreign
markets, lack of PC software development techniques, and the fact that licensed content is
vulnerable to competition. The opportunities available are sequels to already established titles,
growth in industry, and future partnerships based on their good reputation with previous alliances.
Threats include competition from other software developers like THQ and Take Two, the cyclical
nature of releases, and the reliance on game consoles for use of software.
Blizzard Pre Merger: Strengths for the Company include top performing titles manufactured for use
on computers, reoccurring revenues based on subscriptions, and a presence in the hard to penetrate
Asian market.

Southwest Airlines Case Study
Manohar Gadiraju
Overview Southwest Airlines has been a cost leader in the airline industry with continuous growth
and profits for the past 35 years. It has been the fourth largest domestic carrier with low priced
routes and a no frills policy free of in flight meals and baggage transfers. The low cost fares, almost
comparable to automobile transportation costs, have created both an unprecedented growth and
new markets for this airline. Southwest was able to achieve this cost leadership by sticking to its
strategy of exclusively selecting point to point high consumer demand routes as opposed to a
traditional hub and spoke model of routing used by most large carriers. Also its routes operate ...

There were strong barriers of entry to the new entrants. Except for JetBlue most other new entrants
that started after 2000 failed.
3. The major suppliers for airlines are jet fuel and aircraft frames. Southwest and others face
declining margins with increasing jet fuel prices. Southwest aggressively hedges on fuel prices and
has profited in billions with this strategy due to the continuous increase in fuel prices. The second
major supplier dependency for Southwest is aircrafts by Boeing. This is because Southwest only
uses 737s which created a strong dependency between the two companies.
4. The threat of Substitute products was high since the airline industry competes with other choices
of transportation automobile, bus and train. Specifically for Southwest s short haul point to point
routes, travel by car or bus was a viable alternative due to the convenience of highways. Increased
security wait times at the airports also contributed to the increase in the overall air travel time, thus
making the ground travel a competitive substitute.
5. The bargaining power of consumers has been significantly high after the economic recession of

Camp David Accords Essay
Former President Jimmy Carter is frequently referred to as a champion of human rights. While his
presidency is deemed mostly unsuccessful in handling domestic affairs, such as unemployment
and a sharp increase of inflation, Carter is well respected for his attempts to negotiate peace
across the world. One of his better known attempts is the Camp David Accords, in which Carter
brought Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat together
to discuss peace between the two nations. While most Americans see the Camp David Accords as
progress toward peace, Arab leaders felt the opposite.
In an effort to establish himself and his knowledge with international affairs, Carter immersed
himself in learning about the Middle East and did a tour in 1973 through Israel, Palestine, Egypt,
and Syria. Before the Camp David Accords, the situation between Israel and every other Middle
Eastern country was delicate and heightened by constant guerilla attacks back and forth. While
Israel had Western support, their successive militant governments established settlements along the
Jordan River as well as military occupation throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip pushing
Palestinian refugees into Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and the edge of the Gaza Strip. While
occupying Palestinian lands in 1967, the United Nations issued Resolution 242 calling for Israel
to withdrawal from lands acquired by war and work toward peace as well as settling the refugee
problem.

Japanese Female Divers Essay
On the other hand, the history of Japanese female divers stretches back far longer than that of the
Koreans. The practice originated at least two thousand years ago, and may have a connection to
the migration of Japanese. As fishermen were moving along the southwest islands of Japan and
towards the main island, women were reported to have collected shellfish and seaweed. Such
catches would provide much needed salt in the diet and some items such as abalone or turbo
play a part in religious ceremonies, and also could be traded for other products. Jewelry could
also be made out of the pearls and abalone shells they collected. The Japanese have a wide variety
of diving practices and even wear different types of clothing depending on the region; such
diversity is evidence of free diving as a long standing tradition with older origins.... Show more

female dominated profession. It is significant to note that the male characters for ama, (diver in
Japanese) have the connotation of sea warrior or more appropriately, samurai of the sea. But the
female characters for ama simply mean sea woman, and the term itself is now assumed to refer to
females. The difference in meaning is most likely due to the fact that men would use their hands or
spears to grab fish, while the women collected shellfish and

Economic Turmoil Of Latvi A Case Study Presenting The...
Economic Turmoil in Latvia is a case study presenting the economic challenges with Latvia.
Latvia is a country of approximately 2.5 million people, and is part of the Baltic States. When
the Soviet Union collapsed, Latvia who is one of the three Baltic States gained its independence.
Latvia was doing well and was experiencing fast economic growth power driven by a vibrant
private sector (Hill, 2014). The following case study will elaborate more on Latviaeconomic
condition and present questions about the case study.
In 2004 the country joined the European Union and pegged it currency, the lat, to the value of the
euro (Hill, 2014). Latvia goal was to later adopt the euro. Latvia used a variation of a system
known as a currency bond, in order to sustain parity against the euro. Warnings started to surface in
2006 indicating the Latvian economy might be in trouble (Hill, 2014). The economy was thriving
because of inflow of foreign money into Latvian banks, mostly from Russia. These funds were
being used to finance lending. It was suggested to the government to restrain lending by raising
interest rates. However, these suggestion were ignored, and what the government failed to do...the
market did anyway (Hill, 2014).
It was in 2008 that the boom unraveled as the global economic crisis of over evaluation of U.S.
properties, expanded into other countries around the world. Latvia however, started to experience
trouble when Parex, the nation s largest bank, exposed it was in finance

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dengue
The Problem:
Dengue is a mosquito borne disease typically found in tropical and sub tropical areas but it is
commonly found in other countries all around Asia, with global warming thought to be helping
with the spread of the disease. Singapore provides a perfect environment for breeding and has an
ongoing battle with dengue.
The problem we face now with the population growth of the Aedes mosquitos is that the greater the
population of the mosquito, the higher the risk of dengue fever. The reason dengue is so serious, is
the fact that it can be potentially fatal. Aedes mosquitos breed in clean stagnant water, with a life
cycle of seven days. They are the only mosquitos that carry the viral dengue disease. Expansion of

Some other benefits are that it is a healthy application, which creates a relatively safe environment
free from mosquitos. Although there are benefits, the disadvantages are that it is only applied to
specific areas and cannot completely eradicate the mosquito. According to a study made in 2005 by
the Singapore Medical Association, the usual chemical fogging in natural environment was
ineffective in breaking the reproductive lifecycle by elimination gravid female aedes mosquitos
(Chua, K. B). Although this is only one experiment, breaking the female reproductive cycle is
considered vital in controlling and ultimately eradicating the aedes mosquito. Other disadvantages
to fogging include, the fact that when uncontrolled it can contain diesel and insecticides that can
sometimes be toxic for humans, domestic animals and wildlife. An additional reason as to why
some thermal fogging is bad, is that pesticides exposed in an animals habitat can lead to
Biomagnification. Biomagnification is the increase of a toxic substance, in this case insecticides in
an organisms tissue as it goes up the food chain or water course etc. This affects the health of the
living organism and eventually will corrupt the food chain as all the organisms in the specific food
chain die out. Recent advances include the introduction of genetically modified mosquito s to

The Learning Style Inventory ( Lsi )
This assignment came to life because of the two theorists P. Honey and A. Mumford. They
researched on how to put together a project in order to identify the learning styles. The starting
point of this scheme was supported by the Kolb learning style inventory (LSI). Finally, they came
up with the idea of a questionnaire. They gathered eighty questions together, containing four
different learning stylesalong with characteristics of the person/s that might fit in. The image below
represents the theory along with the learning styles produced. (workpress.com, 2011)
Many people will argue that the theory discussed is `not a psychometric instrument, but a checklist
about how people learn`; furthermore, it could expose the `danger of labelling people as theorists
or pragmatists, when most people exhibit more than one strong preferences (F.Coffield, 2004, p. 28).
Perhaps that every individual from this Planet is different and unique, this is a fact. The same
like being different means that we have diverse ways of perception towards new concepts and
ideas (learning in general). However, we all have similar ways of approaching and understanding,
therefore learning. The two theorists did not necessarily intended to say that certain people have
certain learning styles; conceivably, they just wanted to help people recognize themselves and
other people around them in order to learn and work more efficiently. As we are so unpredictable,

Language Influences On Children s Formation Of Social...
Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand and sort out.
It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early
years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object
they encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language
plays a vital role in children s formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults
talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of
how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different
characteristics about a person such as language, hair color,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual
cues, or non intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social
categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the
hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like
clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels
encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words,
language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting
because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through
visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more
exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun
labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that
children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji Carey,
2014).
The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various
experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports
the social categorization among both four year

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, the plot being fueled by the ancient

Many theories have been formed, including the most popular one that the feud began so many
years ago that the families don t remember. But this is just one of the variations because in every
play the motives for the feud changes, fluctuating between money and race. This is believed

The Problem of Overfishing
One of the growing issues that has been plaguing our marine habitats is the problem of
overfishing. What this means is that we are taking fish from the ocean, at rates that are far
higher than the fish can replenish themselves, which is a problem because fish and other marine
organisms are very important for millions of people around the world. They are relied on
because sometimes it is the only way to have access to a good source of proteins and fatty acids
throughout the day. The key for sustainable management revolves around the idea of the
economics of the catch. What this means is that we can maximize the fish that we obtain from
the oceans while still allowing them to replenish year after year. The way that it works is that
fish have a different growth rate depending on where they lie in regards to their carrying
capacity. When they are at their carrying capacity they have a very low growth rate so this
would be an ideal time to catch fish. The other ideal time to catch fish is when they are at half of
their carrying capacity because this is when they have the highest growth rate. If this was done,
fisheries would be able to catch the same number of individuals as the fish produced that year,
while the population remained at half the carrying capacity. One way that we limit how many fish
can be caught is by imposing quotas and monitoring catch numbers. There are two problems with
how it works now. The first is that in reality the fish populations are

Essay Growing Up
When I Grow Up.. Being grown up isn t as fun as the idea of growing up. AmberGrace Seguin
Remember when we were young and all we could think of was growing up and getting to do
grownup things? We spent our whole childhood thinking of what we would do when we finally
grew up , and here we are, almost completely grown up and we still haven t made up our mind of
what it is we will do when we grow up. We ve painted this pretty little picture in our head of what
it ll be like when we eventually do grow up, and when it finally comes for the picture to be taken
off the wall and put into action, it s not nearly as fun as creating the painting. Growing old is
mandatory, growing up is optional. Anonymous We all have the choice

The day the child realizes that all adults are imperfect, he becomes an adolescent; the day he
forgives them, he becomes an adult; the day he forgives himself, he becomes wise. Alden
Nowlan As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We
once convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much
better once we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth
and laugh because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now,
more than ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of
what we are to become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we
could imagine it any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it. A grownup is a
child with layers on. Woody

Carrie is an Intense and Amazing Book by Stephen King
The book that I chose for my 3rd quarter book report was Carrie by: Stephen King. The book is
about a sixteen year old girl name Carrietta White, who lives in Chamberlain, Maine with her
mother Margaret White. Carrie attends Bates High school which isn t really a pleasant experience
for her, at school Carrieis constantly mocked and teased by her peers because of the way she
dresses, looks, and her weight. At home things are much worse for Carriebecause of her overly
religious and abusive mother Margaret. When she is accused of being sinful or disrespectful to
her mother Carrie is constantly put into the closet where her mother locks her in there for hours
until Carrie has prayed and asked god for her forgiveness. Margaret doesn t want Carrie to
experience regular things her peers do because she is afraid that Carrie will meet a boy and have
an unwanted child, just like she did. Carrie soon experiences her telekinetic powers in an
incident at school, and begins to use them on household objects such as chairs, tables, and
books. As the story develops Carrie s powers become stronger and Chris Hargensen plots revenge
on Carrie, for getting her detention and not being allowed to attend the prom. As prom night
comes around Carrie ends up going with Tommy Ross and has a great time, until she has a cruel
prank played on her, and ends up using her gift as a weapon to kill and destroy. Who: Sue Snell is

natural resources include coal, lignite, iron ore, uranium, mercury, pyrites, fluorspar, gypsum, zinc,
lead, tungsten, copper, kaolin; hydroelectric power. Spain s currency is the European Unioneuro.

Teen Panic Disorder
Teen Panic Disorder happens when people suffer from sudden, uncontrollable panic attacks. These
panic attacks are not occurring for any natural fear or in any danger. In fact, it happens for
unnecessary, overpowering fear. When a teen gets many panic attacks he or she may start worrying
about having another panic attack. This needless worry causes him or her more anxiety. Teen with
Panic Disorder often experiences anxiety and avoids visiting places where a panic attack may
happen. This mental disorder is called Agoraphobia. In the USA, six million people are suffering
from panic attacks. Teens are suffering more than others.
Hyperarousal or the severe traumatic response is common when a person faces danger. The body s
expected reaction is fast and it initiates in a fraction of seconds. The sense stimulates various brain
areas that are aimed to protect you by signalling you to escape or to fight with it. At this point of
time, the brain starts releasing adrenaline and other hormones throughout the body for countering
the threat. This defensive machinery is called hyperarousal or the fight or flight response and this
mechanism helps us to survive. However, the emotional and physical responses during the
hyperarousal are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Invention Of The Nineteenth Century Essay

Two Innovation of the Nineteenth Century
When asked what the most important invention is, many questions comes to mind, and these
questions must be answered before responding to the initial question. Basically, anything that did
not exist previously, whether it is a mechanical device or graphics, literature, or music, is an
invention . The eighteenth, nineteenth and the twentieth centuries were met with innumerable of
new inventions, technical breakthroughs, and innovations. Steam locomotive, diesel engine and the
internet were two of the technological innovations that revolutionized societies in the nineteenth
and twentieth century. Invented in England in 1814, Steam locomotive was one of the technological
inventions that revolutionized the world. The first full scale locomotive was constructed by
Richard Trevithick a British mechanical engineer in 1804 at the Penydarren Ironworks in Wales.
Before then in 1797, Trevithick had constructed high pressure working models of both stationary
and locomotive engines which was a success. With four driving wheels, Steam locomotive had
smooth wheels operating on smooth metal rails, its success showed that enough traction could be
accomplished without using gear wheels and a cogged or toothed track. Trevithick locomotive
exhausted its steam into the stack of the engine s firebox; this provided a forced conscription for
the blast in the firebox and was used on

Denali National Bear Argumentative Essay
Tourists appear in Yellowstone National Park to see the world s geysers and to observe the
wildlife. Most people go to observe the animals and take pictures while they are there, but what
they do not know is that it can be threatening. While people are taking pictures they do not know
the proper precautions about being close to them. People do not know how the bears will react
based upon spotting you. Although, there would be less attacks, bears should not be removed
because it is there natural habitat, people are desensitizing bears, and bears attacking have been
a defensive act. First, bears should not be removed because it is their common territory. In
article 2 it states, Denali National Park and preserve is home to both black bears and grizzly
bears (National Park Service n.p.). Since, Denali is a preserve to the bears that means
Yellowstone and Yosemite National Park are preserves to them too. If rangers are removing the
bears he/she is taking their home away: like for example what if someone just kicks people out of
their house, citizens would not be too happy and would perhaps try... Show more content on

does that increase the chance it will hurt someone. . .but. . . bears did not become this way
without people s help (Holland n.p.). What this is saying is that people are interacting with bears
do not know what can take place. The reason why they can t reach out to bears is because they if
this keeps on happening then it will become a second nature for bears just to come up to people
without meaning to scare them. People are the ones teaching bears not to be afraid of them. They

Compare And Contrast Hinduism And Christianity
In the world of billions of people how many of us are going to be the same? People will perceive
the world in their own way. One person may see the world perfect, while others see nothing but
the end. Is everyone going to be different? Not necessarily, many others will share the same
beliefs but that could mean more varieties will be created. Once one person believes a certain
path they may choose to believe in that belief or even believe living is the path to happiness.
However, one chooses to perceive their own world, they may or may not be right. Just like in
religionpeople follow their belief but what they choose may not be the honest path. Some have
common similarities but many differences as well. Hinduismand Christianity have many
resemblances between one another and how their Gods are, even with the view that they are
extremely different, especially in the way that Hinduism has many Gods compared to Christianity
and how they both reach salvation. There s much talking about religions and faith in the world
today. Everywhere people will find others that are indifferent about Godand faith, one will find
people that are obsessed with anti religion propaganda and others will find people that live their
lives according to what they believe and what they declare.
Religion is defined as a system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives,
symbols, beliefs and practices that give meaning to the practitioner s experiences of life through

The Network Marking Industry Is Successful
This is not your typical story of success. No, I am not going to give you some mumbo jumbo
about how everyone in the network marking industry is successful. However, I will tell you that,
anyone in network marketing can be successful. Not everyone who has attempted to succeed in
network marketing has done so. Do you know why? Not everyone has the drive, determination,
patience and confidence that it takes to make it in network marketing. I will tell you first and
foremost, most companies will ask you to make a list of all of your friends and family, and try
to promote your product to them first. This can give you the opportunity to test your sales skills.
However, not all of your friends and family will not see the value in what you have to offer.
Why? It is not because you do not have the skills to market your products and services to them. It
is because the majority of your friends and family tend to always assume the worst about new
business ventures; especially network marketing. Maybe they have tried it themselves and failed
miserably. Instead of just admitting that they did not have the above mentioned skills ( drive,
determination, patience and confidence) to survive in network marketing themselves, they would
rather discourage you instead. Stay Positive I am not trying to tell you that, talking to your friends
and family is a terrible idea. I am only stating the obvious. If you have already tried this approach
than you know what I mean. I am saying,

Metaphors We Live By George Lakoff And Johnson
George Lakoff and Mark Johnson state in their article, Metaphors We Live By, that ...metaphor is
pervasive in everyday life, not just in language but in thought and action (3). They are saying that
metaphors are used all the time, and not just when people talk, but metaphors are used in how
people think and act too. I agree with this statement because after reading Lakoff and Johnson, I
have become more aware of the metaphors I use in everyday life to describe everything, and I use
the metaphors more than I thought. Barbara Tomlinson backs Lakoff and Johnson s statement up by
presenting readers, in her article, Tuning, Tying, and Training Texts: Metaphors for Revision
, with a
select variety of metaphors many different writers use when... Show more content on

One metaphor she talks about is cutting, but she goes into deeper specifications using pruning and
uses linguistic evidence to prove the metaphor by saying, David Jones (1966), having crawled out
on limbs, then goes ahead and prunes them; Penelope Farmer (1976) prunes her stories radically ...
(Tomlinson 69). She takes the metaphor of cutting (pruning), and then takes words associated with
pruning to present the readers with evidence.
Tomlinson went through papers and determined how authors thought of revision and what
metaphor they use when describing it. She then continues to talk about the metaphors and provide
evidence theses authors use for their metaphorical thinking. She gives readers a way to think about
their own revision process through the metaphors authors use.
A few of Tomlinson s metaphors for revision also fit how I think of my own revision process.
Sewing and tailoring is one that works well with how I revise my papers. While sewing, fabric
swatches are removed using a scissor to shape what is being made. Then, thread is used to hold
the pieces together, and make the final product. When revising my papers, I take out sections that
do not fit, and then smaller additions are put in to make the paper fit what it s supposed to be
about. The smaller pieces are usually parts that make the paper flow better or, hold it together, like
thread does while sewing or tailoring. Then,

Why Is Cheer Important To Me
My Cheer Squad Is Important To Me. My cheer squad is important to me. Whenever I have a
problem they help fix it by finding a solution. They help me with all my situations. I know I can
trust them to help me and when they help me I learn something from them that will also help me
another time..
One reason why my cheer squad is important to me is they help stick up for me. This is important
to me because I have a good feeling inside of me knowing someone will help me when I need
it.When they saw I was being bullied they knew I couldn t handle it so they stuck up for me.They
told the bully that it is not nice to pick on people because it will make the person hurt inside.
When my cheer team helped me with this problem they taught me to not let anyone bother you
because they are just jealous. I also stuck up for myself by telling the bully Treat someone the way
you wanna be treated. Just then I realized that is the key to the world and how you should treat
someone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men
re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories
that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first
category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags
around with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In
Shrek, Donkeyand Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly
moments, such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and
constellations together. Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house,
and he ends up letting him sleep on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie
and George are usually nice to each other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or
screws up, George will get frustrated and tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t
there with him, then he wouldn t have to take care of him and that he could have an easier life.
An example is on page 13, when George says to Lennie, No, look! I was just foolin Lennie, cause
I do want you to stay with me! George just got done yelling at Lennie and telling him how he
wishes that sometimes he wouldn t be with him so that he could go out and live a normal life and
do things with his money, instead of getting in trouble, taking care of Lennie, and having to move
all of the time. He felt bad after he did that, because Lennie

Negative Affects Of Helicopter Parents
Negative Affects of Helicopter Parents in Youth Sport Throughout my whole life all I could
really remember is playing sports and always playing them very competitively, and having my
parents very involved. There was a lot of pressure put on me from a young age, all the way up
into even now playing college football. I was raised with helicopter parents rather than the laid
back parents. The best moments I can remember is just throwing the football around and playing
small games in the neighborhood, no pressure just simply playing because I want to. Unnecessary
pressure on sport from parents and what style of parentingis something I have put a lot of time and
effort into studying. Putting to much pressure on your kids in sport could lead to; physiological
affects, bad relationship with the parents, eating disorders, burnout of sports all together, kid not
reaching his/her full potential, being a helicopter parentleads to children being afraid to voice their
opinion, or afraid to fail, or even act as who they are and not what there parents want them to be.
While there is know perfect way to be a parent while your child is playing youth sports, the majority
of parents in my generation are putting to much pressure on their children and being helicopter
parents, which could lead to many negative consequences. There are many interpretations of what a
helicopter parentis, one of my favorites comes from authors Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay from their

Summary Of Lucky Child By Loung Ung
The book Lucky Child by Loung Ung tells The story about Loung who was fortunate to escape the
terrifying invasion of the Khmer Rouge and find a safe haven in America. The pressure of dealing
with assimilation and trying to fit helps support Loung in finally embracing who she really is.
Loung is a ten year old girl living in the town of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Loung was once a
normal village girl. She had friends and went to school. All that changed when the Khmer Rouge
came into power in 1975. When Pol Pot s communist Khmer Rouge stormed into the city April 17,

Earl Warren s Due Process Model
Since the year 1953 until the year 1969, Earl Warren served as the fourteenth chief justice of the
United States Supreme Court. Warren s span served was noticeable because of frequent judgements
that have changed United States decree and culture. While disapproved, Earl Warren is thought of
as an utmost chief. Under his supervision, the courts similarly wanted equivalence in unlawful

Chief Justice Earl Warren used the Due Process Model in order to make his decisions on these

Failure to follow such procedure may result in the suppression of evidence or the release of an

  • 2. Lil Wayne Avoidant Attachment Case Study 1: Lil Wayne Avoidant Attachment Lil Wayne demonstrates this behavior because he is emotionally unresponsive to the fact his mother walked in and out of the room. Most avoidant attached children learn early in life to suppress the natural desire to seek out a parent or adult for comfort when frightened, distressed, or in pain. These children learn to rely heavily on self taught, self soothing, self nurturing behaviors. They develop a pseudo independent adaptation to life and maintain the image that they can take complete care of themselves. Which then results in, they have little desire or motivation to seek out other people for help or support. Case Study 2: Chris Brown and Case Study 3: Miley Cirus Anxious Attachment Chris ... • 3. Kanye West This picture is a perfect portrayal of celebrity culture in today s era. The desire to be virtually connected and share everything in one s life is the new trend. And this has resulted from the constant competition from the new community of microcelebrities , which is based on achieving fame through broadcasting oneself through media. One of the demeaning aspect of the picture is the lack of genuineness and enforcement of stylish lifestyle on the audience which makes it loose the emotional quotient. For me, the picture represents three key elements Kanye West, who achieved success because of his songs, then Kim Kardashian, who rose to fame through the infamous sex tape and built her media empire over it and finally the baby, North West, who is unaware of her surroundings where she will be in constant gaze and would have to struggle, like her parents, to depict herself according to their social stature. According to Braudy, this urge to be unique and constant competition is what drives the Page 3 personalities to share and market their every life event which makes them superior to others. As Guinness Book of Records demonstrates, everything humans can do has been turned into something that humans can compete to do, with someone coming out on top, at least until ... Someone with an extra limb or a women with a beard, that is our abnormal. Not by your sense of normal but by our standards. I approached the ticket booth, the lights were fluorescent and flickered which added a slight blindness where a carnie sat. He seemed like a normal run of the mill joker with the pitch black and scarlet red tattered costume, with sewn patches on the elbows, but strange enough he didn t have any makeup on. • 6. Anzia Yezierska’s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of... Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers and Assimilation of Jews An entire chapter of Eric Liu s memoir, The Accidental Asian, is founded on the supposition that Jews today serve as a metaphor for assimilation into American culture. According to Liu, this is due to the ease with which Jews have been able to assimilate. However, the progress that Jews have made in embracing and affecting America has been gradual rather than instantaneous, as evidenced by the character Sara Smolensky in Anzia Yezierska s novel Bread Givers. Sara is not the symbol of an assimilated Jew, but instead represents a period of transition between complete assimilation into American identity and complete dissimilation from her Jewish and Polish heritage, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sara s willing dedication to her American identity, as represented by her clothing, is contrasted with the blood relationship she has with her mother, and by extension her actions separate her from her entire ancestry and ethnicity. Denounced for her refusal to comply with the traditions of her culture, and disdainfully called an Americanerin, Sara experiences the social death that Sollors describes, a result of her cultural relationships having become mutually antagonistic (xx). In this scene she temporarily ceases to be Jewish and becomes to her people and to her family merely a female American. This schism is paralleled by a more subtle contrast at the conclusion of the same chapter that should be noted, when Sara hears the poverty stricken cries that Charity saves you from death (256)! This statement of course cannot be literally true, but displays a further contrast between the voluntary and the natural on a more literal level: voluntary generosity versus natural inevitable death. Sara is further distanced from her ethnicity through her resistance to the patriarchal doctrines of Judaism that are followed by her family. Sexually biased Judaism is represented by her father and his frequent citations of the Torah to justify such a position. When Sara refuses to marry the wealthy Max Goldstein, her father tells her that the Torah says What s a woman without a man? Less than nothing a blotted out existence. No life on earth and no ... Regardless of the strength of the women, however, genre determines their fate those in the comedy live happily ever after, whereas, those in the tragedy do not live at all. Hermia s father gives her an ultimatum Demetrius or imprisonment with possible death. So will I grow, so live, so die, my lord, / Ere I will yield my virgin patent up / Unto his lordship, whose unwishГЁd yoke / My soul consents not to give sovereignty, (I, i, 79 82). Hermia takes control over her life, and steels the power her father had over her. She courageously runs away with Lysander, for she will only live life on her own terms. Furthermore, with her refusal of her father s arranged marriage, she acknowledges that she cannot be bartered and sold like property, her hand would only be won by someone she chooses. Instead of showing courage in the face of an oppressor, Coriola acts in a different way. In the Duchess of Malfi, the Duchess maid does not share her strength and grace Cariola instead crumbles to a man who tells her what to do. You are deceived, sir, / I am not prepared for t, I will not die; / I will first come to my answer, and know / How I have offended, (IV, ii, 229 31). It is on a suburban street so there isn t much noise pollution beyond the cars on the moderately busy street on one side. The horizon is hidden by tall trees and 70 s style houses in every direction. It is overcast, cool, windy but only slightly. The air smells as though it might rain this evening. Sitting sideways on a slotted metal bench, I face the playground. • 10. Compare And Contrast Edmund Spenser And Sonnet 5 How does one gain immortality? According to Edmund Spenser (c. 1552 1599), William Shakespeare (1564 1616) and Michael Drayton (1563 1631) you do it through poetry. In their respective sonnets Sonnet 75 (One day I wrote her name upon the strand), Sonnet 18 (Shall I compare thee to a summer s day?) and Sonnet6 (How many paltry, foolish, painted things) they each tackle the topic of living forever through writing. While all three of these sonnets share the common subject matter of preserving someone through sonnets, do they present them in a similar manner? What senses do each poet use to get his point across? That will be the point of discussion in this essay, first looking at each of the sonnets separately and then comparing the different ways in which they appeal to the senses. Edmund Spenser s Sonnet 75 (One day I wrote her name upon the strand) is written in the Spenserian sonnet form, with 14 lines brought together in 3 quartets and 1 couplet with a rhyming pattern of ABABBCBCCDCDEE. Drayton s conflict seems to be on a more human level, as his focus is what women to come will think of his woman and how they will see her as superior. Unlike Spenser who preserves the object of his sonnet through the dialogue, Shakespeare preserves it through the visual imagery. Drayton also has a clear visual emphasis throughout his sonnet, even though his language has an added pride and sense of superiority to it that are not present in the others. While the object of his sonnet is their sex s only glory (Drayton, line 12) there is little to describe the woman herself, and more as to how others shall remember her in awe and how she will live on through his words. Television Violence Is Not the Problem Essay Television Violence Is Not the Problem We ve all heard the numbers on the amount of television that children watch and the amount of violence that they re exposed to. In fact, sources that blame TV for children s conduct quote this kind of data profusely. American children and adolescents spend 22 28 hours per week viewing television more than any other activity except sleeping (_Effects of Television_). These kinds of facts are strewn about with the hopes of convincing the public that television is to blame for children s misbehaviors. Sources like these have one thing in common: They believe that if television disappeared, so would many of kids aggressive behaviors. Though arguing whether or not television is indeed an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blame is shifted away from the parents of offenders and is put on television. This scapegoating can create television ratings, editing and censoring but will not reduce the negative behaviors of children. If a child acts on what they see from television, it is because they were not reared with the same values as a child who does not act on what they saw on television. For example, there is not much difference in the news about Kurt Cobain. If two children see it but only one shotguns themselves, there is a difference in the values that were taught. Television portrays violence all the time but so do a number of other things. Books, for example, have more radical information and ideas than television could ever depict. The tales in books are far more juicier and interesting than could ever be portrayed by _The X Files_ or _The Simpsons_. But we do not see the influences of books being executed in life, only those of TV. Copycat crimes have been related to TV and movies, not books. This is for the simple reason that TV is easier to access and is easier to pay attention to. This only proves that television is blamed because it happens to be the medium that is most easily accessible; it is a victim of circumstance. Distinguishing the various programs available for viewing proves that TV is a scapegoat. There are lots of violent and shocking programs and there are ones that have little ... • 12. Leadership Reflection For Senior Leadership According to the Introduction to Strategic Studies Course Directive, This year presents an opportunity to walk in the shoes of senior leaders making difficult and complex decisions before you begin wearing them upon graduation. From the above sentence I can conclude that, this paper could be the beginning of my journey to wear the higher level leaders shoes. As I am now starting preparation for a future senior leadershipassignment, I have to equip myself with the required knowledge and skills in order to act as senior military leader. Therefore, Thomas Galvin outlines four mission specific roles and senior military leaders should also take lessons from history, like from The Gulf War, 1990 1991, . The four roles are, a strategic advisor and communicator, a strategic planner, a strategic theorist, and senior leader at the strategic level. So that this paper will focus mainly on my reflection towards to the first two mission specific roles. Therefore, my choice from the roles are the strategic advisor and communicator, and the strategic planner because working to exercise these roles would have more benefit to jump for the rest two roles. From the case study, I have selected General Collin Powel and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf roles from the case study. In order to link and reflect my future area that should be strengthen. I never knew this religion existed. The first time I heard the word Zoroastrianisam it was a few months back when someone on Facebook was talking about Gal Gadot, the actress that plays wonder woman and saying that she is Zoroastrian, like it was a bad thing. Then, I found a chapter in my text book pertaining to Zoroastrianisam and I was excited to read the chapter, just to see what they are talking about. It dominated the world from 559 BCE to 651 CE. Just by reading the basics, we have seen many similarities in all three of these religions. The most important one is of course the shared belief of an almighty God, Ahura Mazda, Yehowa. The holy father is the one and only God in all three of these regions. All three religions recognize the evil forces of the earth being led by one specific entity. Resurrection, final judgment, hell, haven, and immortal soul, all of those elements essentially come from Zoroastrian teachings and are very prevalent in Christianity and Judaism. The element of fire, if you read how the bible describes judgment day, it is very similar to the Zoroastrian vision of the final purification revelation, 20:11 15 speaking of the lake of fire. The Fallacy Of Public Education The Fallacy of Public Education Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. Plato For the last several decades, there has been a great return to homeschooling. Many families have seen the need to remove their children from the public education system for a variety of reasons: for religious grounds, because of a decline of morals in the public system, or to give their children an education where they are not held back from reaching their potential. When homeschooling, a child can work at their own pace often learning 2 years or more of material in one year and allowing them to fully explore topics that interest them. Their intellectual curiosity can be fulfilled and they can be the best they can possibly be. Students in the public school system are subjected to teaching that is repetitive, biased, and falls short of academic success. In the past, students that were failing coursework, but were getting older, were pushed on to higher grades even though they were not ready for the more advanced coursework. In the 1980 s there was a great number of graduates who could not even read. How can the proponents of the public education system even make claims that to be successful today, children need to attend their institutions? • 15. The causes of court delays in Malta are attributable to... Court delays had already existed during the British Colonial period and while some delays are considered as necessary, many people consider these delays as totally unacceptable. Numerous articles are found online or on newspapers with regard to this issue and some people argue that the prolonging of court delays is in breach of the fundamental right to a fair hearing in a reasonable time. These delays relate to a variety of factors which to a certain extent are attributable to the procedure adopted in the court. However, other factors such as the legal history, culture and social relations should also be taken into consideration. During the Colonial period, the Maltese had resisted legal and judicial interventions by the British authorities and this seems to affect the way we see the lawyer s professional role today. At this point in time delays had already existed in civil litigation as the British Royal Commission (1911) investigated these delays and it was in charge of reforms to the Maltese judicial procedure. It focused mostly on the schedule followed by the courts for the hearing of cases. Through these investigations, what emerged was that the system adopted for the hearing of civil cases seemed to be based on the assumption that instead of a single session in which the case would be tried, there would be a series of hearings, which could reach thirty or forty over a number of years and which were usually separated from each other by periods of some three ... While in college, I co founded a nonprofit that aimed to provide support for the transgender community, especially those who were homeless veterans. I led workshops at medical schools to teach future doctors how to provide comprehensive care to the LGBT community. Through this grassroots community organizing, I realized current approaches to medicine and research focus on genderin binary ways that leave out transgenderpopulations. These experiences sparked my passion in biocultural anthropology and holistic human health. My interest in human biology began when I worked as a part of a team that investigated dance therapy as a form of treatment for the symptoms of Parkinson s disease. I conducted interviews in which participants completed quality of life assessments. I learned about the significance of combining subjective and objective measures of stress. The main findings were that after months of therapy, patients showed slight improvement in tremor and gait as well as positive emotional life assessments. As a team member, I collected data and presented research at the Society for Neuroscience. Finally, they came up with the idea of a questionnaire. They gathered eighty questions together, containing four different learning stylesalong with characteristics of the person/s that might fit in. The image below represents the theory along with the learning styles produced. (workpress.com, 2011) Many people will argue that the theory discussed is `not a psychometric instrument, but a checklist about how people learn`; furthermore, it could expose the `danger of labelling people as theorists or pragmatists, when most people exhibit more than one strong preferences (F.Coffield, 2004, p. 28). Perhaps that every individual from this Planet is different and unique, this is a fact. The same like being different means that we have diverse ways of perception towards new concepts and ideas (learning in general). However, we all have similar ways of approaching and understanding, therefore learning. The two theorists did not necessarily intended to say that certain people have certain learning styles; conceivably, they just wanted to help people recognize themselves and other people around them in order to learn and work more efficiently. As we are so unpredictable, at least to know from where to start (what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Language Influences On Children s Formation Of Social... Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand and sort out. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in children s formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair color,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual cues, or non intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words, language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji Carey, 2014). The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports the social categorization among both four year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lord Capulet Bury The Hatchet Essay Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, the plot being fueled by the ancient grudge (Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare 2) between two families: Montague and Capulet. The reason for the feud is unknown throughout the entire play and Shakespeare never reveals it. Many theories have been formed, including the most popular one that the feud began so many years ago that the families don t remember. But this is just one of the variations because in every play the motives for the feud changes, fluctuating between money and race. This is believed because of the reasons stated before: the origin of the feud is never mentioned. However, one of the lesser known theories was formed by David Blixt. • 43. The Problem of Overfishing One of the growing issues that has been plaguing our marine habitats is the problem of overfishing. What this means is that we are taking fish from the ocean, at rates that are far higher than the fish can replenish themselves, which is a problem because fish and other marine organisms are very important for millions of people around the world. They are relied on because sometimes it is the only way to have access to a good source of proteins and fatty acids throughout the day. The key for sustainable management revolves around the idea of the economics of the catch. What this means is that we can maximize the fish that we obtain from the oceans while still allowing them to replenish year after year. The way that it works is that fish have a different growth rate depending on where they lie in regards to their carrying capacity. When they are at their carrying capacity they have a very low growth rate so this would be an ideal time to catch fish. The other ideal time to catch fish is when they are at half of their carrying capacity because this is when they have the highest growth rate. If this was done, fisheries would be able to catch the same number of individuals as the fish produced that year, while the population remained at half the carrying capacity. One way that we limit how many fish can be caught is by imposing quotas and monitoring catch numbers. There are two problems with how it works now. The first is that in reality the fish populations are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
