 Trait = enduring characteristic of a person in which he differs from
another
 Cattell – 16 traits ( source or primary traits)
 John – big 5 model
 Extraversion – social, talkative
 Agreeableness – good-natured, cooperative, trusting.
 Conscientiousness – responsible, dependable, achievement oriented.
 Emotional stability – calm, nervous, enthusiast, insecure, depressed.
 Openness to experience – imaginative, artistically sensitive, intellectual.

 human behavior is influenced more by unseen forces than conscious and
rational thoughts
Sigmund Freud
 Id-innate source of psychic energy , it is unconscious part of human
personalities. Id knows and obeys no laws.
 Ego – conscious part of human personality, associated with reality, it
checks ID through logic and intellect.
 Super ego- conscience. It provide norms & values to ego to determine
which is right and wrong at given time in given society/situation.
 id seeks pressure, ego verifies reality, super ego strives for perfection.

7. Social learning theory
 Learning can simply defined as any change in ones behavior that occurs
after the result of experience.
 Reinforcement
 Vicarious learning- observing others
 This theory emphasis on how an individual behaves in a given situation.

8. Self theory
 Carl Rogers( described as phenomenological which studies individuals
experience, feelings, his concepts of world and self.)
 Self image- how one sees oneself
 Ideal self – what one like to look like.
 Looking glass self – the way an individual thinks people perceive about
him. This indicate one’s belief about self is the reflection of others
perception about the person.
 Real self – what one actually is.
