To find the perimeter, we must add up all the lengths
around the edges of the shape.
We must calculate the unknown lengths, 𝑥 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦.
Now, the length of the entire side is 6 𝑐𝑚 and the length of
the shorter side is 4 𝑐𝑚. Therefore, to get the value of
𝑥, subtract.
𝑥 = 6 − 4 = 2 𝑐𝑚
Similarly, subtract to get the value of 𝑦.
