Suggestion: Select a medium to large company – very small companies (less than 50 employees) often have a very limited and under developed PM processes in place. • Your team must identify and gain agreement from company leadership to conduct your Performance Management Analysis and Assessment by February 16. – Team Leaders please post your Company selection and company contact information on Canvas by February 16. Prepare the following in a word document – Submit on Canvas under the item: PM Project Information: o Team Name o Team Leader Name o Team Member Names o Company Identified o Type of Business: (e.g. Manufacturing, Financial Services, Banking, etc.) o Company Senior Leader and email/phone contact information (this is the individual you have contacted and gained approval from to conduct your PM Assessment) • You will need to contact the Senior HR Leader or other Senior Leader within a business and make your request to him/her to conduct your research project. Once you have the senior leaders permission and have established key contacts in the business you may proceed to conduct your assessment. Suggest you offer to provide the senior leader a copy of your final report and slide presentation and possibly for your team to provide your presentation to the leader and his managers. This of course is optional on your part. • In your discussion with the senior leader you should gain agreement to interview key the HR leaders, Key Functional Leaders, other leaders and managers, and employees within the business. Note: Only gaining input from the HR people or from senior leadership very likely will provide a very limited assessment. • Analyze and assess the Performance Management approach of a given business. Learn as much as you can about the PM approach, analyze and assess the approach and the results the PM approach produces in relation to what you have learned in our PM PM Course Project MGMT 4440_6730 SP 16 Virg Setzer - Instructor course. You are to draw conclusions from your assessment and prepare a comprehensive report where you provide an assessment indicating the level of effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the PM approach. It focuses on defining and implementing good employee practices that are covered in the Organizational Excellence Framework (copyright 2010 Dawn Ringrose) publication that integrates global excellence models and provides implementation guidelines for the practitioner. These practices have been validated by over 20 years of research. The employee practices include: Undertaking human resource planning that supports organization goals and objectives; Recruiting and selecting people for mutual success; Promoting equal opportunity and diversity; Ensuring people understand and commit to the strategic direction and improvement goals; Getting people involved with improvement initiatives; Encouraging employees to share ideas and suggestions; Encouraging employees to be innovative and take risks; Determining the training needs of employees and providing the necessary training; Ensuring employees have adequate compensation and benefits; Rewarding and recognizing strong performance of both individuals and teams; Ensuring a healthy workplace environment and involving people in addressing issues related to health and wellness; Removing barriers to employee effectiveness. Each practice includes a definition, implementation guidelines and practical examples and may include applicable research findings. The workshop is formatted so that participants learn about best management practices related to the topic and have an opportunity to self-assess against the practices and develop an improvement plan to address gaps. This workshop is part of a consulting toolkit that includes: the Organizational Excellence Framework publication, scenario games, automated assessments, holistic workshops for micro to large size organizations and modular workshops for each key management area (governance, leadership, planning, customers, employees, work processes, suppliers and partners, resource management, continuous improvement & performance measurement).

This Is Not the Question for Public Health Emergencies November 17, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm EST Speaker: Ghaiath Hussein, Assistant Professor, Medical Ethics and Law, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland About this Seminar: Public health emergencies, whether natural or man-made, local or global, in peacetime or during armed conflicts are always associated with the need to collect data (and sometimes biological samples) about and from those affected by these emergencies. One of the central questions in the relevant literature is whether the activities that involve the collection of data and/or biological samples are considered ‘research’, with the subsequent endeavour to define what ‘research’ is and whether they should be submitted for ethical approval or not. In this seminar, I will argue that this is not the central question when it comes to research/public health/humanitarian ethics. Using the findings of a systematic review on the research conducted in Darfur and findings from a qualitative project that aimed at defining what constitutes ‘research’ in public health emergencies I will, alternatively, present what I refer to as the ‘ethical characterization’ of these research-like activities and how they can be ethically guided.

This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
