This study evaluated the germination of 41 perennial ryegrass cultivars under different saline water conditions. Seeds were germinated in distilled water (0 ppm salt), moderately saline water (8,750 ppm), or highly saline water (14,000 ppm). Saline water was found to slow germination rate and reduce total germination compared to distilled water. However, some varieties like Stellar 3GL and Apple SGL showed little inhibition of germination even under high salinity. This study demonstrates varietal differences in tolerance to saline irrigation water during germination.
