Defining “gender”
When we speak of diversity, we recognize that
the human world is made up of individuals
and groups that have different
characteristics:
● Individuals
● Families
● Cultures
● Societies
These differences are manifested in how we
perceive the world, ourselves, and others, in
how we relate to others, and in the evaluations
we make of the people and situations around
us. These differences become constitutive
of our identity

So what does it mean?
We can define gender as the set of meanings, representations, and social
values of the feminine and masculine assumed in a given society in its
historical time without a biological basis

In principle, the recognition of diversity implies promoting respect for all its manifestations and
the rejection of all forms of discrimination

● Sexual differences between girls and boys: external parts of the body
● Respect for diversity. Differences between cultures and ethnicities, languages, customs, beliefs, family
structures, physical characteristics
Elementary school
● Roles in families. Comparison of how they were distributed in the different generations: tasks performed or
performed by grandfathers and grandmothers, fathers and mothers at home when they were children and
when they grew up.
● Different responsibilities assumed in the family by its members
● Cooperation and shared work. Equal opportunities between men and women in the performance of tasks in
different areas

● Changes in gender roles throughout history as social organizers. The aim is to promote interest in learning
about the different conceptions and manifestations of love and sexuality throughout history.
● Reflecting on the concept of gender as a historical, social, and cultural construction and addressing the
changes that have taken place in order to generate conditions of equality.
● It is suggested to consider the different places constructed and occupied by men and women through time.
