Front Cover Process
My practice magazine topic was about how music has changed over time, I
chose this topic because I thought it would be easy to write about because
there are a lot of different ways the music industry has changed.
To create my front cover I used photoshop and then started by collecting
different photos of iconic musicians through time to put on the front cover of
my magazine. Once I had chosen my photos I used an editing tool to take the
background off. I placed all the photos at the bottom of the page and had the
magazine title ‘Music Through Time’ stretched across the top. I gave the
magazine a white border to make it more professional. As well as this I wrote an
short article introducing the magazine.
Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
I like the collage of photos at the bottom of the page because I think it
successfully shows the reader what the magazine is about without having to
read the article or the title. Also, having interesting photos on the front page
will interest a wider audience. And I think that music through time is clever
magazine because it can attract a wide audience of different ages.
I think in my final magazine I will include more details because in my practice
magazine I’ve only included the price and date, but in a published magazine
they’d have to include more features, e.g. a barcode.
Double Page Process
For my double page spread I started my writing another introducing article to
explain what the magazine was about. Then I researched different music
articles so that I had information that I could include in my magazine. I
decided to create a timeline of music through the decades. I thought this
would be a good idea because it is a visual factor the reader can engage in
without committing to reading a long article, but also has information for the
reader to read. On the timeline I used black and white photos for the older
artists to show the chronological time order through past celebrities to
present.
Reflection
I was please with the end result for my double page spread because it wasn’t
meant to look like a professional, established magazine it was an opportunity
to explore different and new ways to use the InDesign software. So although
it wasn’t a piece of work that I would use for my final product I think it still
worked well as a magazine and through the process it meant that my end
project can be more successful because of the different techniques I learnt
through the experiment.
